Great restaurant with a friendly welcome. My third time here and the food is consistently excellent, well cooked with quality ingredients. The service is pitched just right, neither hurried nor slow. The bar and dining area are cosy in winter and with good aircon in the summer it is a welcome escape from the hot city streets. Highly recommend, 5*!

Nice food - pizza was tasty, salad tasty too. Family arrived 1hr 15mins before closing and the entire time were rushed. We finished 35 minutes before closing but unfortunately this tarnished our experience, I would rather they turned us away from the start. Would have been a four rating otherwise

I feel quite smug about finding this place. I'm starting to think the only restaurants worth visiting nowadays are those whose owners are friends, family - or in this case, one very skilled chef/owner clearly devoted to her business. We both had meatballs in marinara sauce with parmesan to start. That's a dish I've eaten a hundred times, many in Italy. These were exquisite. Put it this way, my partner and I were having a great conversation on the walk to Clifford's; we ate our starters in contented silence....... The husband had Chicken milanese, chips & aioli for a main - I got at least two morsels, and it was superb. I was busy with the venison ragu, which was packed with flavour. This is a cosy place, and I do love a basement restaurant. In the old days of Fleet Street, this'd have been the place for 5hr lunches - though not for me, as I got there in 1983, and every journo seemed to be stuck at their typewriter with sandwiches and mineral water. So this was a gorgeous taste of those halcyon days; a late lunch which had us waddling out, down to St Bride's and the Journalists' annual carol service. Clifford's is a headline act, for sure.

We went to Clifford's on a recommendation yesterday and it was a delight! A delicious lunch, friendly and helpful staff and a wonderful atmosphere. Despite it being traditionally a quiet time in the run up to the Christmas closure, the restaurant was busy and buzzing with happy customers. If you are in this part of London and looking for a place to eat, Clifford's should be top of your list...

Tasty, high-quality dishes; cozy vibe; great wine. Innovative take on Italian classics. Gnocchi with ragu was to die for. Not disabled accessible.

Clifford’s is really okay. If you worked locally in Fleet St I could see it working for lunch or a team dinner but it’s not high end cooking. The chicken in breadcrumbs looked really basic. The pizzas are very straight forward, tho nice bases. Its downstairs, slightly bright lighting, friendly casual staff. It’s not expensive which is a major plus. But I wouldn’t cross town for this place.

The food here is so good, with very close attention to detail. The staff are very delightful and attentive and the venue is beautiful. A complete experience for business lunches and dinners with my partner. Book well in advance.

Lunched here on Thursday and although our booking had not been registered we were found a table and everything went smoothly. Food was great and service was attentive. Will try this place again for an evening meal next time we are near.

Found this little basement restaurant off Fleet Street & got a very friendly welcome. Small menu but a very reasonable set lunch. Would like to try again in the evening & try what interesting wines they had to offer.

Nice restaurant for breakfast. Lovely entrance down stairs lined with candles. Real leaf tea in fancy teapots. Great looking room with lots of home pickled veg. Great bacon and scrambled eggs. Will come back for dinner soon

The days of the long, heavy business lunch may be long gone, but most of us still cherish the opportunity to spend a quickish, fairly light lunch with colleagues or business contacts. If that's what you are looking for, and are in the Chancery Lane vicinity, Clifford's is the place. The simple menu of modern/traditional dishes is interesting and reasonably priced. There is also a fixed lunch menu (which we didn't try). The service was prompt and very pleasant. Our mains of grilled mackerel fillets with a gooseberry sauce were excellent, with the fish really fresh, and cooked just right (i.e. not overcooked). Glasses of house while (a Picpoul de Pinet) to accompany, and affogatos to finish. A very good lunch, done and dusted in about 445 minutes.

I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. The food was absolutely out of this world - the panzanella salad and asparagus starters were beautifully fresh and clearly made from really top-notch ingredients, and then the ribeye steak and pork belly were just melt-in-the-mouth. It was all topped off by an indulgent croissant bread and butter pudding and a wonderfully refreshing green apple sorbet - both were an absolute delight. The service matched the food - our waiter was friendly, welcoming and very attentive, and really made us feel like we were valued guests in their restaurant. The price worked out at about £60 per head (including drinks and tip) which we thought was very good value for the quality of food and service we received, and in London too. I can't think of a restaurant I would recommend more highly than this one.

We had a business meal here - limited time but the service was prompt and efficient. I had the pork belly and my colleague had a specially offered vegetarian meal. There were followed by delicious sorbets. It can be noisy but the food and service more than compensates.

In London to celebrate my birthday my daughter chose this restaurant which she had visited recently.Whilst waiting for her to arrive from work I had a walk around the area.Fleet Street is nearby, although the only name I recognised was DC Magazines, publisher of the Beano and opposite their offices was C Hoare & Co,the private bank-fortunately the restaurant is affordable for those of us with more modest means. At 5pm the restaurant was already quite busy and lively with a group booking, so we were seated in a quiet corner to study the menu, during which time cocktails arrived without prompting.A lovely way to start our evening. We ordered the seasonal asparagus and mozzarella with tomatoes, followed by Day Boat Cod,Fricassée of Chicken with morels and tarragon gravy, accompanied by hispi cabbage and chips. The NZ Sauvignon Blanc we chose was bright and crisp and a good companion to the food. Service was attentive but we spent so long chatting we did not have time to sample the dessert menu as we had to get to the theatre. We did however manage the complimentary glass of fizz before our departure.Notwithstanding that this restaurant is downstairs and no natural light, it was a cosy environment offering a good selection of reasonably priced seasonal food.Definitely worth a visit

This is a long overdue review inspired by a totally indifferent meal I had in France last night. The disappointment of French bistro cuisine was in sharp contrast to three perfect meals I had over a few weeks in March and April this year. Clifford’s has developed a great menu, fairly priced, perfectly executed and served with professionalism and charm. Their menu is varied, providing multiple options, but not worryingly long. Fish specials (hake) were so good I had it twice. Cod roe and egg starter was sublime. Wine list covers all the basis and sensibly priced. The place only has one downside; its location. Great spot but hidden below street level. Not a problem once you’re in as you’ll only be looking at the food - and your dinner companions of course!

Last evening we went as a group friends 9 in total to the restaurant. The quality and the quantity of food was poor. When we complained to one of the member of stuff, asking to see the manager or chef, no one came to us to explain or apologise! Definitely Won't go back ever again. ☹

We booked a wine and cheese tasting while we were going to visit London. Sue took the reservation by email. The Leadenhal Market is beautiful! We thoroughly enjoyed this tasting and the time spent educating ys on these wines and cheese was exceptional. Would definitely recommend this to everyone who loves taste and enjoy!!! Sue the owner is great!

The selection of beers on tap is one I’ve not seen in pubs in London, from the blue moon to the Leffe. The ambient is really great with red brick walls, timber, chesterfield sofas, a poker table even! Many sitting areas and massive, massive warehouse windows. Such a cool environment. The guy serving was v friendly too - highly recommended

Visited Wrights Cafe Pall Mall last weekend. The food was absolutely delicious! I also had a coffee and it was the best one i have had in the area….The prices are definitely on the cheaper side, especially for the area. Staff are friendly and helpful too. Definitely recommend to all!!!
