Ingredients were of a low quality (in my opinion) and was an underwhelming experience from the start. I am far from picky but I wouldn't go back.

Just a cafe with rather tired decor but they managed to produce two tasty freshly made sandwiches with good granary bread tasty fillings and some nice salad trimmings. Very good value as well so if its just a bite you want in Bideford you could do a lot worse.

A nice, traditional cafe in the heart of Bideford. Good portions of freshly prepared food and very reasonable prices. They were struggling with staffing issues when we went in but that didn't stop them from making sure everything was great. This will always be our first choice whenever we visit Bideford.

Went into this nice little Cafe as we have done on may of our visits to Bideford. Me and the girls enjoyed our Hot chocolates. One little tip and I do not wish to be offensive, but the waitress at the time should have a closer look at her dress. There was a lot more on show that was necessary and that is all I shall say!

Came here after walking through Bideford, looks nice from the outside but the inside decor is very dated. We ordered 2 toasted sandwiches and a pot of tea, the bacon on the BLT was lovely but the bread was very cheap which ruined it a little. I think some modernisation and some fresh bread would have gotten this review to 4 stars but unfortunately its the little things that count. The toilets were covered in mold and need a full clean!... how is this acceptable in modern times?

During a shopping trip into Bideford my wife and I decided to pop in for a brunch. The staff were very friendly and seemed to enjoy their work. All were very pleasant and smiling. I ordered the full breakfast, without egg. This comes with toast and tea. What excellent value and quality. I would certainly recommend the breakfast but if you didn't want the full one you can order a 'mini' one by selecting individual items. A good idea for those with smaller appetites.

I ordered what was called cottage pie on the menu.It consisted of a plate full of gravy with a bit of mince and a few peas floating in it and a rather strange square of potato on top.For this I was charged £9.95. This week I bought one from a store beginning with s for £2.50 and it was delicious. The service was very slow in spite of the fact there were very few people in there and we had to ask for our table to be cleared. Very disappointing as it used to be a nice cafe.

Came here may bank holiday it was a hot day and my 4 year old needed a drink this was the first place I came across that had drinks , I went in with my son and asked for a can of coke - I was then blatantly talked about and then was asked if I would be drinking it in the cafe or taking it out. To which I replied I will take it out , the woman behind the till must of caught her on a bad day face like thunder , told the young girl the price of the can of pop to which was £1.71 !!!! If I wasn’t for the fact it was for my son who is 4 I would of told them where to stick it , I didn’t say anything , paid the £1.71 still being plesent. We then sat outside on the chairs to have the woman blatantly giving me evils through the window . I seriously don’t know what I had done or how i had offended her . But I certainly would never go back , talk about great customer service !! Should of waited as there was shop few doors down !!! Lesson learnt !!

We visited this cafe for some mid-afternoon lunch. There was a good selection of snacks, mains meals and drinks. 2 main menus were on offer, one with cafe type food in (Sandwichs, Jacket Potatoes and Paninis) and another offering main meals such as Bangers and mash and pie. Everything was reasonably priced. Some staff didn't seem as trained as others and slightly less professional than others. We came in for a 10am coffee and were amazed how popular this cafe is, a hive of activity. Lots of more mature folk ordering breakfasts until the mid day menu took over. Lots of local trade and a place to socialise. I see the good and great, but for us it was old fashioned and in dire need of updating in every way. Shed like loo was not good, tiny courtyard at the back was too small and full of smokers. Ok for a coffee and snack, but just ok. Needs an overhaul.

this place is a regular for me and my nan, we always come here when we are together and the food is always perfect. we always have the full english breakfast and they always cater to our needs. the coffee they serve is the best coffee I've ever had out in a cafe it's so lovely I could drink it all day! best not though! the place itself is looking very tired and old, the walls are extremely cluttered with pictures and photos. the walls all need a fresh lick of paint as it is chipped in a lot of places and is stained or faded badly. the lighting in the place isn't great, a lot of the lamps have shades missing so the bare bulb is showing and they have a lot of outside light fixtures indoors which was confusing to me. the toilets are absolutely diabolical, there is only one toilet for each gender and inside they are dirty, small and dingy. I would avoid them at all costs. whole place just needs a revamp and some tender loving care, such a shame as the food is so lovely all the time.

Looking from the outside, it looks like a good place to eat. When I went in I was disappointed. The tablecloths aren't changed nor cleaned. My table had sauce and crumbs on, which doesn't create a great impression. The teacups are stained, could do with bleaching. I ordered the cottage pie which was nice itself. However, the vegetables are overlooked and tasteless, and the gravy watery. On a positive note, the service was friendly.

Went here on a Saturday lunch time with my daughter. It was olde worlde from outside & though welcoming inside, it was very tired looking. Most of the tables were full, a lot had one person at them ( tables for 4). We found a space at the very back near the kitchen area. It was a little cramped when a couple joinned the table adjacent to us. I ordered a bacon baguette & my daughter a tuna one as her first choice of local roast beef wasn't available. The food came quickly. The bread was nice & crispy, rather like those you put in the oven to part cook & the bacon was tastey, though not much of it. The tuna was lacking enough mayonnaise & seasoning. The servers were very young, presumably Saturday jobs , so could do with some customer service training I think. On the whole, OK but needs bringing up to date.

This is the dirtiest place we have ever made the mistake of visiting. The floor (carpet?) was filthy, plates of leftover food on most of the tables, cups and cutlery still had marks of either lipstick or food on them....The behaviour of one of the (staff?) was utterly shameful: she literally stomped around smashing crockery, swearing and cursing about having to clear up. She was an intimidating person who would ruin anyone's visit there and really ought to be kept out of sight (and hearing!). The only decent thing about this place was the very sweet young man who was struggling to keep things together as he was left alone to serve.... He was polite, professional and really ought to be given a better team to work with - in fact maybe someone ought to fund him with his own place as we would say he was totally wasted in this filthy disgusting pit around people (particularly one slovenly looking and abusive sounding person) who will NEVER measure up in our opinion. We chose Cleverdons as they looked to have an extensive vegetarian menu. Once inside it seemed to take an age to get served, however we were willing to wait for the long looking list of choices. Once the waitress took our order we took great pains to check that the dishes were dairy free, as both myself and my wife have an intolerance to dairy (of varying severity). The waitress duly checked and the soup was dairy free. Again, upon ordering I took time to ensure that the waitress was aware that this was an allergy issue, and not simply a lifestyle choice. The food took an age to come, and when it arrived there was packs of butter on the plate with the bread for the soup. Also, the waitress who had been serving us had seemingly been replaced with another member of staff we had hitherto not spoken to. We assumed that the butter was a mistake, and as it was still in the packaging discarded it and enjoyed our meal. The meal was OK, not fantastic, certainly not worth the wait. We skipped any deserts as life is to short to wait another 45 minutes. Not long after my wife was taken unwell. She has spent now three days of our honeymoon suffering the effects of being fed dairy.Obviously they assumed we were being awkward, and as a result cost us at least half of our honeymoon. All for a poor tomato and lentil soup.Avoid.

In the last two months I have had the good fortune to eat there on three occasions; a Christmas dinner, Burns Night and a girls night out. On all three occasions, the food has been excellent and good value for money - an uncomplicated but varied menu, including a separate vegetarian section - all the staff are first class, the service is friendly and fast but not rushed and the atmosphere is happy and relaxed. The 2 plain scones were lovely despite not being home made, which to me was no problem, and what was nice about them was that they didn't crumble when you put anything onthem and you get a generous serving of jam and clotted cream!! Ideal to keep you going whilst out shopping and fills you up until dinner. Tea was lovely and the pot gives you around about 3 cups.Boyfriend had a hot chocolate with cream as he doesn't drink tea or coffee and had a slice of chocolate sponge which looked extremely rich but lovely. For 4 people the cost came to about £3 something each, which in terms of quality and service like this you can't go wrong especially in such a homely little café. Will come back again if we're in the area!

A hair in the tea cup!!!!! Yuk! Very old fashioned the decor needs a major overhaulOrdered the cottage pie it was vile grey looking watery very small portion no gravy tasteless vegService by the younger staff very good cheerful smiling polite. The more mature lady who served us didn't smile or even said hello! Very grumpy and unwelcoming Definitely wont be back. Seemed to attract an older element or people down in their luck- I would imagine after half an hour in there they would be suicicidal!Much more tastier food and politer staff mass produced at sainsburys

On a day trip to Bideford we went into this super little cafe for a cup of coffee - and a piece of very yummy cake. After a walk around the town we decided to go back for lunch. Lovely meal, friendly service and a nice atmosphere.

Stopped off for a bite and a coffee, different from our last visit a few months ago but it still has the lovely tea room charm that first attracted us to it. Good friendly service makes it a pleasurable experience. A nice place to bring our visitors for a little old fashioned treat.

this is a local spot for me with easy access in the town centre- they offer a really good choice of fresh food on the extensive menu and the service is brilliant. I would recommend this as a great value stop for all ages

We dropped in here on the off chance of a meal, as we walked in the lady was very welcoming and immediatley put tables together for us as we were a party of 6 people. It was 4pm on a Wednesday afternoon and we were keen to have a cooked meal. This place did not dissappoint. Two of us opted for the fish platter and two of us for the plaice and chips, the children were also well catered for. The fish platter came with three different fish in different types of batter/breadcrumbs which were all very light and tasty, absolutely lovely. They were accompanied by freshly cooked chips and fresh crisp salad. My 6 year old ordered an omlette with chips and peas, I didn't think she'd finish half of what she was served as it was such a huge plate full but to our surprise she polished off the whole lot saying that it was the best omlette ever! As it was Wednesday they were offering free ice cream to well behaved children! What a good idea! Both children enjoyed their ice cream! They also offered on a Wednesday, free childrens meals with every adult meal, another great idea.We had a fantastic, tasty meal at a very reasonable price.Lovely tea rooms, yes maybe a little tired, outside loos and not particlularly warm inside but the friendliness of the staff along with the quality of the food far outweigh this small negative. They even offered free WIFI!Thank you for a fantastic meal.

A slightly old fashioned tea shop which does reasonable everyday menu for lunches etc. Some home baked avaialable. In good weather the garden area at the rear is nice with a sunny outlook. Popular with visitors and the slightly older residents.

We really enjoyed eating here on our recent holiday. The vegetarian selection was a menu, not just a few sad options. The nutty cottage pie was delicious and filling. We would definately eat here again, and intend to do so soon.

Good food but tight for space. Well cooked wholesome mains and good selection of desserts. Access with pushcahirs can be problematical at times when busy

We live in town so we sometimes call in for food. The decor itself is a bit tired and dated, and it can seem a bit dark and gloomy inside. However, the food is good and the cakes are always fresh and all look mouth-watering in the display cabinet.During busy times there can be a bit of a wait for food but thats only to be expected, the drinks always arrive right away to keep you going until the food arrives. They are usually very good if you need to slightly vary the menu in anyway. There is a very small back yard available for smokers. Sometimes on a Sunday morning the food available is very limited as the full menu isn't always available, however that said sometimes on a Sunday its hard to find many places to eat in town, so at least they are open and its an option.

Although it was a bank holiday (and stated skeleton staff) you did have to ask for items eg plates or extra cups. Cakes were delicious, staff friendly, prices good value. Would go again.

This place is always busy.Right in the centre of Bideford, there is a huge choice of meals and scrummy cakes. We had liver and onions which lots of places dont seem to serve any more.It was very good. It`s licensed so you can enjoy a nice half of lager or whatever.Very cheap prices, older ladies doing the waitressing and all very pleasant. The building itself is very quaint and oldy worldy.Worth a a trip there.

Have visited this cafe on about three occasions and received service from the same lady each time. The place has a homely atmosphere, as the lady who runs the place appears to be a local. The food was well-cooked and presented, although basic, and the service was cheerful. This is definitely not a high-class eatery, but one which is locally operated by a lady with character. Very average but no complaints.

In fairness when we visited the Cleverdons they were busy but we explained that one of our group was limited to time as it was her lunch hour and we were limited to the car park. The waitress assured us that we would have our meal within 20mns as we had ordered off the Light lunch menu. we ordered our drinks which arrived promptly and then waited & waited for our meals. In the meantime we noticed that so many customer were complaining about there meal e.g served cold ,and cancelled their desserts the meals arriving to late . We eventually left having to leave our overpriced meal and when we complained to the manageress she was not concerned. Thank you will not visit again.

Excellent Thursday Carvery. At £10.95 it’s great value. Thick slices of moist meat and fresh vegetables to choose from (can we have roast parsnips too please?! ) You won’t come away hungry! Staff efficient at the bar and at the carvery. Vegetarians catered for. See you again soon.

Though we live quite locally this was our first visit. A warm welcome and very friendly staff, we had bacon sandwich, breakfast wrap and coffees, all tasted lovely and fresh and drinks nice and hot. Very reasonably priced, will visit again
