Wonderful caring man ,we went after our hospital visit, he was so lovely and really taught us when you have bad news ,people do care ,he is one in a million ,and we will certainly be returning in the future and highly recommend it, beautiful food

Worst takeaway I have ever been to. I have no idea how this place is allowed to stay open - chicken kebab was literally rotten. I know these places are sometimes hit and miss but this is on a different level of bad. Will be contacting council to report.

This poor man has lost the will to cook edible food well overpriced and the quality shockingly poor there are way better places closer by I remember coming here years ago when it was a decent Chippy god only knows what’s happened to it

I went here for lunch and the food is beyond terrible I’ll never come here again the food made me feel sick and the chips and fish were stale the owner here seems to have lost interest and doesn’t care the food is extremely expensive £6:50 for a pie and chips and the pies were rock hard

Absolutely disgusting. First time using this chip shop and will be the last. Food was very clearly reheated and left a horrible taste in our mouths. Chips were black. Fish tasted off.

I wish I had taken a photo beforehand because everyone ate everything. Large portions and super tasty (not over greasy like a lot of other chippies). Highly recommend and Will definitely return. £9.50 for over cooked chips, pudding and gravy and a can of pop. The guys needs a mask and stripy jumper. Nearly died when he asked for the money. Will never use again, total rip off. Disgusting abusing the cost of living like this, shameful.

I feel to ashamed, only given one star to leave a review. The most awful fish an chips I have ever ever had. Black oil seeping through the batter an running into the chips. Someone from health an safety should view this premises. Paid over 5 pounds. Avoid at all costs. We will be making enquiries as how this premises is allowed to serve this diabolical food. The food from Clayton Fish and Chip shop is never anything short of incredible. Whatever you order be it a large order small order or individual order it is always beautifully fresh with the food only matched by the friendliness of the owner. I have been to this location often and anyone who writes a bad review of this location has the opportunity to see with their own eyes if the food is not of a good standard as the food is always cooked fresh in front of your own eyes so I totally disagree with the false comments made by the previous review. If there are any issues the owner lets you view the food you have order so if there are any discrepancies in your order you can see these discrepancies before you pay and leave the premises. The choice of the menu is above and beyond any other fish and chip shop and I would recommend this Fish and Chip shop to anyone looking for fresh tasty and gorgeous food. Martin

Food was cooked fresh infront of me, and was absolutely delicious! Lovely owner and tastiest saveloy I’ve had in a long time!!

This is the worst meal we have ever had. Overcooked cold/burnt chips, microwaved pudding, disgusting watery peas, vile gravy. What a waste of £16.40. Never again, should have had beans on toast!!!

The food was horrendous, the chips were black and the sausages and fish cake was reheated!!! Don’t even think a dog would eat it… moldy chips and reheated food

Really friendly and respectful owner. The fish was battered and cooked fresh in front of me, and tasted good. The chips were not super tasty, but they were cooked well and were enjoyable with a generous sprinkling of salt! They are also open most nights, whereas many other chip shops are shut, which is a huge benefit. This sits on the expensive side (a large fish was £8, and regular chips were £2.90 if I remember correctly). I'd certainly reccomend this chippy.

Overpriced and poor quality micro tat

Absolutely awful! Never in my life have I had such bad fish and chips! Never! The chips were black, the fish stunk and tasted off and the peas… watered down and I found black pea inside the pot!!!! Disgusting!!! £12 for a large portion and he didn’t even use decent fresh products!! Appalling!!

Really disappointed. Chips were lukewarm and tasteless, texture was very rubbery. Fish had really strong aftertaste, didn't taste fresh and was over cooked, batter was super brown. Peas were extremely runny and cold. Wouldn't go back.

I cant comment on the food because I never recieved it. I ordered online through dineorder on Friday night , three meals for delivery £17.40, the dineorder response to me was order recieved , food being prepared. Great. An hour and half later I'm thinking I should phone up to see why its taking so long, when I recieve an email saying the chippy is closed at 9.30pm !!?? And the email said my order was a collection!!?? And not a delivery?? I called the owner around Monday or Tuesday he didnt seem to know about my order and told me that on Fridays they dont deliver....well thats not what dineorder said! So he was calling HO at dineorder to find out what went wrong. A week goes by I hear nothing. I called the owner again , who says dineorder should have phoned me(they didnt) and my order was collected? How the hell does any stranger go in and ask for my order, because I didnt collect it I was awaiting delivery. Anyway the owner then gives me dinorders number. Ive left a voicemail but had nothing back . I'm £17.40 worse off and neither the owner or dineorder are willing to help. You decide if you shop here. I wont

Absolutely disappointing.. waited over an hour and half for delivery despite being told it would arrive in 20-30 mins. When it finally arrived we found the food was way below average especially for the price being charged. I feel the food is very overpriced and disappointing had we not been so hungry we Wouldn’t have bothered and won’t be bothering again!!!

Great food and the owner is incredibly friendly. Will definitely be coming by again some time soon :) Thanks for the great fish and chips, my other half really enjoyed it. She liked the vinegar so she might have some on hers next time

it has the best price for lots of good food; i've only tried the fish and chips, but they were pretty good and fresh. the owner is really nice too! the place is pretty neat. you can't pay by card though

We travel about 20 minutes to use this chippy which speaks volumes for how much we rate it. Fish in breadcrumbs are quality and the burgers are very good too. Friendly & efficient service too, the man who runs the shop is a really nice guy.

Best fresh fish and chips I have tasted in the area. All food is made fresh to order and the staff are lovely. The environment is clean which is brilliant, especially as I am a fussy eater. I did change my mind quite a few time but the staff were more than happy to accommodated. I will definitely be returning.

Absolutely love this chip shop- fish fried to order is perfect and crispy, chips lovely and browned. Not sure about reviews on small portions?! We always share a portion between 2 and there’s loads!! Brilliant chippy!!

Gutted. No matter how much gravy, salt and vinegar I used, the chips tasted vile. I can live with a little skin on the chips and even an odd black spot on them. Laid out, the portion would have looked like a piano keyboard. I really cannot understand how chips could look and taste so bad. It was anything but first choice, it was first visit and the last. Avoid like the plague

Staying in a hotel nearby and decided we were in the mood for a chippy. Got there to find nothing ready, that’s fine because everything is made fresh so it should be good, right? We are visiting from Glasgow and asked for a “battered sausage supper” which he corrected us with “battered sausage and chips?” So we agreed. Sat and waited for 10 minutes and went to pay and were asked so 2 battered burgers and chips? I said “no, it was 2 battered sausage and chips”. He said “well burger is the same as sausage”, which is wrong obviously one is beef and one is pork. My partner agreed to take the burger but I wanted what I had asked for originally so we waited another 10 minutes. At this point the atmosphere changed, some banging about, moody face, another customer came in and asked us “have you done something to upset him? Nothing like a good atmosphere when I come for my dinner” It only came to £6.60 for a battered sausage and chips & battered burger and chips. Got home to eat it and lord almighty. I know Scottish & English chippys are different but this was something else! Batter was horrible, soggy, chips were cold and hard, sausage was like a Richmond put in batter. Customer service was a big fat zero and so was the food. Avoid this place like the plague!

Lovely friendly kind, so knowledgeable chef. He does not serve pork, it is unclean meat. I'm glad to know that there are chefs like him with wisdom. The fish and chips he makes is the best I have eaten in about 18 years. Increase..Increase for this man. Many people need to support him Jesus is Lord.

He uses old lard wich doesn't get changed very often , doesn't use normal cooking oil , also it may look nice an clean inside but there are rats running at the back of the shop

£2.90 for large chips..must have been 3 medium potatoes at most..rip off and they were nasty..cooked in old dirty oil !

Freshly battered fish was nice but the chips were tasteless and frozen. Walked in to have the guy ignore us and after a couple of minutes of reading the menu a woman started saying why are you taking so long. She didn't order anything and clearly just sits there to talk/be rude to customers with her daughter/friend reading a magazine. We were put off and tempted to leave but were hungry so we ordered and the man just walked away without acknowledging us so we weren't even sure he got the order. Certainly won't visit here again

Visited on recommendation and I was not disappointed. All food is freshly cooked to order, it is reasonably priced and delicious. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. Definitely my favourite fish and chip shop in the area.

My partner and I visit here once a month or so and the food never disappoints. The owner (who is simply a wonderful man in himself) cooks everything fresh to order so the batter on the fish is always light and crispy and never soggy. The chips are always cooler just right and the portions are generous- we usually just share a portion of chips and get 2 fish between us which is plenty. They have an online ordering system which is great so that you don't have to wait in the shop for ages whilst he's cooking your fish. Great service, will continue to use for a long time!
