My second stay and it was great again. I just love your hotel. I even decided to stay an extra night. Your staff are amazingly friendly and professional. I would especially like to thank Fraser at the bar. Such a lovely person. I don't usually have a drink at bars in hotels, but your hotel makes me feel like taking a moment to relax. Fabulous! Thank you!

The hotel is centrally located at the end of the meeting area in Glasgow. The rooms were spacious. The bathroom with the large shower was great. Since other reviews say windows cannot be opened; We were able to open our window a crack and get some fresh air. The self check-in and self-check-out were quite okay. Massive deductions must be made for staff. Listless / no interest, especially from employees behind the bar / around the bar. Really a shame.

The Clayton is perfectly placed on the banks of the Clyde. It is just a couple of minutes from a whole range of shops and restaurants. Friendly staff good food, comfortable room and a well stocked bar. we stayed at the Clayton because of its proximity to the O2 Academy (formally the Glasgow Apollo theatre) but we would stay there again for our next visit to Glasgow.

This is a very nice hotel, everything looks clean and the decor is great. The rooms are nice, a good size so you have a desk and a nice shower. The service was friendly and the wifi was fast, a nice change from many other hotels. They are fairly eco friendly with recycling in the rooms and no disposable bottles. The AC works well and is silent but you won't need it much. There are great blackout blinds, many plugs and the lighting is great. Breakfast is another strong point, with great coffee and lots of options. However, there are some negative points, they still have plastic garage bags in each garbage. I also could not plug the sink which was annoying when shaving. They clean everyday, which I don't really like, I prefer to just ask when I need it. And the automated sign in and sign out need work, it is less complicated to just go to the person at the front desk. These are all minor though, where I take off a star and I debated taking off two stars is when trying to sleep. It seems they didn't put as much thought into this as with everything else. There is only one big duvet, so it can get hot and there are no other cover options, the pillow is very thick, which is terrible and I asked for a thinner one but they only have one pillow, so we woke up with neck pains every morning. The soundproofing isn't good either, as you can hear room doors slamming & buzzing sounds from the neighboring washrooms. So as much as I thought this was a nice hotel at a fair price, if you can't sleep well then it is really unfortunate. A few small changes would make a big difference and then I could easily recommend it.

Absolutely lovely staff and a room so clean I could have believed that I was its first occupant. This room was arranged for disabled access, and I don't know how to prevent water from the shower from getting all over the bathroom floor when the shower does not have a door that closes. And this is not a huge deal but the towel array did not include washcloths, which seems unusual, and was noticeable to me.

Loved the hotel, staff were really nice however I was very disappointed with the room decorations that were provided for my husbands 40th birthday. £20 for a packet of balloons blown up that were worth £2 at best and sad fake petals was all totally lacklustre and not worth the money. Bed was too small too and curtains didn’t shut properly so light was let in. Would stay again but would lower expectations

I fist came across the Clayton just over a year ago, I had never been to Scotland before my current job so was a bit nervous staying away for work on my own. After a good 5 hour journey it's so lovely to arrive at the Clayton, it's welcoming, clean and modern and a great location - after my long drive I go for a walk along the River! As a woman travelling alone for work I feel really safe staying at the Clayton. I have been in contact with Cynthia and she has looked after me for my most recent booking and she couldn't have done more for me if she tried, I even had a little welcome card, a can of iron-bru and a caramel chocolate bar in my room! I will look forward to coming here many more times and I would like to say any woman that is staying away on their own for work you will be looked after at the Clayton, Thank you so much Cynthia.

The good stuff - Nice location, comfortable beds, good water presssure, abundant and varied breakfast buffet with mix of hot and cold items. Front desk and management team are friendly, professional and responsive. Needs improvement - To get to reception, and the elevators, there's no ramp, but short flights of stairs you'll need to carry your bags up and down. Because the person at reception was busy, we attempted to use the automatic check-in. After entering data through several screens, including our booking reference number, we were given a notice that the process could not be completed, and we needed to speak to a staff member. There are no drawers or luggage stands in the bedrooms, leaving you to live out of your bags on the floor. In our room, the door to the bath was at the foot of the bed, the TV was mounted at a 90-degree angle to the bed, with no extenuating arm. To watch tv, you would have to keep your head turned, or sit in the ONE chair in the room. Our sink was clogged and draining slowly. We reported this to housekeeping, and even had a pleasant chat with the maintenance team after our first day’s breakfast. When we returned from the day’s exploration, the drain had not been attended to. When we mentioned this to the manager on duty, to his credit, he came to our room himself and was able to resolve the situation in less than ten minutes. Every experience in the bar was a service disappointment, including multiple servers passing by us before being acknowledged, servers not knowing the menu and a bartender telling us they don't serve tables after a certain hour (despite the bar being almost-empty, with more staff than guests). An unfortunate parting experience was a delayed start to the breakfast when we had an early flight to catch. We were told sevice starts at 6:30, when we arrived at 6:45, they weren't ready, asking us to come back at 7:00. We returned to our room to utilize that packing time. When we came back to the restaurant shortly after 7:00, there was a long line from a large tour group. With a half hour already lost, and long lines to wait for, what we'd hoped would be a leisurely last breakfast became a rushed dine-and-dash. To their credit, the breakfast service staff was usually very efficient. Believing we were all paid-up, we left our keys in the key drop and headed to the airport. At the airport, I received an email saying we’d not properly checked out. I called the hotel, asked what else they required from us, and was told there was an outstanding balance. In fact, there was no balance due, about three days later, after some investigation on their part, and more email follow-up on my part, they realized they had charged us twice for some of the breakfasts, and with apologies, they refunded our card directly. To the credit of the management, when we shared our experience with them, they did offer us some compensation for our rooms. The good intention of the partial refund came with some final inconveniences for us. To receive our partial refund, the hotel could not credit our card directly (as they had done when they double charged us), but because we had reserved our room through a third party site in partnership with our credit card company, I had to call our credit card company, and the travel site, and have them contact Clayton directly. There were so many missteps it got to the point that we found it almost-laughable, and they have made for some funny stories to share. None of these experiences were a tragedy, but neither were they indicative of a 4 star experience. Maybe there are better places you can choose to spend your time, and your money.

I reached the restaurant only to find that the food was almost over. The lady from the service team noticed me and I requested her if they can do something. She was so sweet and brought me a plate of sandwich. This is why I love hospitality industry, they are so hardworking and empathetic. I like such gestures, it makes a difference. Good work there!! Location of the hotel is very good, but there is no place to pick up and unload your bags, you have to park your car and bring your bags along the sidewalks. Arriving at the hotel to check in at reception you have to take your bags up the stairs as there are no ramps to make it easier. The hotel is simply a labyrinth, from reception to your room is not easy. What saved us was the kindness of the employee Anne who patiently and lovingly took us to our room, a special thanks to her. The room was spacious, good bed, good shower. It is worth noting here that you must go through several doors along the corridors, perhaps because they are fireproof, this would be the only plausible explanation for the excess of them. Breakfast started very late, which made it impossible for us to enjoy it. During our stay we had dinner at the hotel restaurant.

Beautiful view, fab building, great location, very nice staff but unfortunately they seem to have quite a few issues there. Self check in wasn’t working and consumed a lot of time, breakfast was a complete let down with a compressed and unorganised set up - only one very slow coffee machine working etc., access system was flawed getting locked out of the room and taking 20 mins to get it sorted, check in/out email links not working creating unnecessary stress (got a check out email two days after I checked out), badly understaffed reception area (nice staff though) and room service was an interesting struggle amongst other lesser important issues. A few other things to sort also such as general around understaffing so overall a complete fail and not a great experience for us when considering costs and expectations.

Enjoyed my 3-night stay while attending a conference. Stylish conversion of the historic building that forms the facade, the bedrooms are located in towers behind the reception and restaurant. My room was comfortably furnished, spotlessly clean and serviced daily. Staff seemed very friendly and courteous. I didn't dine here, but got the impression the food offering is a cut above. My only grouse is one of the 2 lifts serving my room was out of order throughout my stay - not a big deal as the hotel seemed quiet, but as the accommodation is spread over 12 floors, keeping the lifts working should be a top priority. Overall I thought the Clayton is an excellent addition to Glasgow's city centre hotel offering. The location is very convenient indeed and I will definitely consider staying here when I next visit the city.
