Really lovely hotel, great value. All the staff we have met have been so friendly and helpful. The reception ladies were very welcoming and informative. Barman was chatty and friendly, the restaurant staff were also friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be of service to us, which we very much appreciated. Would definitely stay again when next in Birmingham

Amazing hotel with lovely features inside. The hotel was clean, the staff friendly and helpful at all hours. The room was clean and bed was extremely comfortable with plenty of space in the room. The breakfast included tasted amazing and had a huge selection which was fantastic for those who prefer healthier options for example the granola yoghurt dish and smoothies were delicious.

After arriving at Moor Street station, it was only a 2-3 minute walk to the hotel. The staff were all lovely and very helpful and the rooms clean. Don't expect nice views from the windows as everywhere around just looks like massive building sites but with that said, I couldn't hear any noise from the work. The breakfast was fabulous and all in all a great 3 night stay.

Had the most wonderful time, everyone so friendly especially Charlotte in the restaurant, nothing was to much trouble for her. The rooms are spacious, spotless and modern. In fact the whole hotel felt immaculate. I feel the only thing that let it down was the parking. It isn't very close to get the reduced cost parking. The ncp which is closer cost 22.00 for 11hrs! Saying that it won't put me off staying again. I look forward to it. Thanks all

We visited Clayton for the traditional afternoon tea booked via Groupon. And, we had a great time. We did not have to wait long for the afternoon tea to be brought out. The afternoon was Halloween themed. In regards to the afternoon tea, some of the desserts/sweet treats were a hit and miss. The savoury selection was OK. I wasn't too fond of the sandwich fillings. However, we especially enjoyed the freshly baked scones. In terms of the service, the customer service was impeecibale and top notch. The staff were very polite, attentive, and hospitable. We were offered hot drink refills throughout. I'd definitely book again. The hotel is also conveniently located centrally in the heart of the city centre.

Great location close to New St Station and the Bullring. The hotel inside is stunning and the rooms are good quality. The beds are very comfortable, the bathrooms are well equipped. The breakfast is comprehensive and served in a room with a nice atmosphere. Security is very good as well, with card access to each floor and night guards manning the entrance.

Our stay at this hotel was very nice. I gave the rooms 4 stars because the drain in the bathroom sink did not drain well, which was frustrating. However, I should have called housekeeping about this. Luke the bartender was very nice. He made us some very nice drinks and we felt so welcomed. Paulette was extremely kind and very professional. I enjoyed my stay and the food was delicious.

No technical knowledge from the staff on the live chat. Frustrating. Luckily I chose an appropriate room for hdmi ports. Please cascade some technical knowledge especially to those who man the live chat on the website. I was previously in the junior suite which is a smart tv I.e. has Netflix. When I enquired about it they said it’s not available which is silly because I had it on the previous visit,

Stayed at the Clayton for my partners birthday as we were seeing a show in the city. The road works being carried out were a bit of a problem as paths were closed but this is no fault of the hotels and once inside they caused no disturbances. Stayed in an executive room that was spotless and only let down by the bathroom as the shower leaked and the bottom of the door was deteriorating probably caused by the water however this was a minor thing. Enough of the negative as none of this would stop us staying again. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful from reception, to the bar to the restaurant. Had an early dinner due to going to the show and the food was excellent, the waitress was very attentive but not over bearing and not rushed in anyway. When we returned on the evening we had a drink before returning to our room, the bar was empty which may be due to being a little overpriced but quite nice just to be able to have a drink without having to wait or push through crowds. Has breakfast included which had everything you could want. Usual catering toaster which took for ever but actually gave brown toast rather than the usual while or chargrilled which is usually the case with the contraptions!

On checking into our room we found that the bathroom sink was blocked and would not drain. We reported this to reception on our way out to dinner. Returning later that evening we found a large pile of towels underneath the sink. The sink had been unblocked but the plug did not work. Furthermore the water leaked, ran down the pipe onto the floor below - hence the pile of towels. We then found that we could not turn off the bathroom light. Where the switch should have been was a hole in the wall. The bathroom had a frosted glass door so our bedroom was illuminated all night. We reported both problems to reception the following morning and showed them photos of the faults. As it was a Sunday they said nothing could be done, asked if I could email them my photos and offered a change of rooms. As we on our way out, were time limited and were leaving the following morning a change of rooms would not be convenient. On our return to our room that evening we found that the pile of towels had gone, leaving the water to run straight onto the floor. What marvellous customer service. The buffet breakfast was very good.

Checked in before 9pm to realise my bathroom had been left with the remanence of maintenance work (likely drain unblocking) being done on my shower. After multiple failed phone calls to reception i went down to ask for this to be resolved and was assured someone would be up within 5 minutes. After waiting more than than an hour I rang down again and waited a further 30 minutes before someone visited my room and to be offered a room change. Upon arrival at reception I was informed due to system issues a room change would take time and could I sit and wait at nearly 11pm or have a manager clean the room. In the 2 hours of issue, I was offered only an apology. And the manager had to clean the room so I could go to bed at a sensible time during my work trip. The customer service was shocking and I feel dirty in the room as a result. Would never book again.

We recently stayed at this beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. The rooms were very clean, and the beds were super comfy. However, we encountered two minor issues: the room was quite hot, and we couldn't turn the heating down below 18 degrees. Additionally, while the breakfast selection was excellent, make sure to inform the staff if you haven't finished if you go back to the buffet, as they tend to clean the tables as soon as you get up. But, very very minor issues and we will definitely be back again, we had a wonderful stay. Thank you.

Very comfortable and pleasant hotel with attentive staff. Unfortunately at the time I stayed (April 2024) it was surrounded by major building works for a new rail station, and this seems likely to go on for quite a while. But I enjoyed staying at the hotel itself.

I will never stay at this hotel again because it was a complete mess and my room had a lot of yellow stains when I first arrived. We informed the reception that the room was unclean, and they promised to provide a "upgrade," but all they offered us was a smaller room without air conditioning and gave us a fan at 5:00 and they are expecting us to leave at 11 when we haven’t slept.

This is an excellent hotel, clean and spacious rooms, lovely shower, comfy beds and rooms are very quiet. My only slight criticism is that I couldn't get the temperature of the room low enough for me and found it quite hot overnight. But this was minor in comparison to all the positives. Breakfast was excellent too.

The decor was lovely when browsing online and had a classic look about it. This was the reason why we made the decision to book than booking a lower end hotel. When booking and receiving a confirmation email, it would have been helpful to have been informed there were ongoing building works opposite the hotel, so a decision could have been made whether we wanted to cancel, that choice was taken out of our hands. When we checked in online and got to the hotel, we were informed our rooms had been upgraded, which was a nice touch, but they were nowhere near each other! My sister has arthritis and struggles to walk, aided with a crutch and naturally I was worried in case she had an accident and fell. We were only staying for a night and I didn't want to cause a fuss, but again simple communication could have averted this anxiety and worry. The view was unsightly from the bedroom window, so I kept the curtain closed, but the building works could be seen throughout the hotel, which can't be helped. Maybe the use of something to stick on the windows, that would cover part of the window but keep the natural light in would have been resourceful, especially in the dining area as there was also a public pathway. It was a bit difficult to understand how to operate the light switches and other switches, and what they represented. Having a basic manual in the room would have been helpful. I'm a poor sleeper but the bed was the best bed I've ever slept on in a hotel. It was so comfortable, spacious and had very good quality pillows and enough sheets. The room wasn't too hot or too cold and was soundproof. The shower was great, I loved that there was a lot of space to move around in. The customer service could have been better. There was one stand out young woman who worked in the bar and was friendly, engaging and helpful and a gentleman who welcomed us a breakfast.

We booked two executive rooms for an overnight stay. We arrived 20mins before check-in and were told to come back at 3pm as they wont allow check in before that and wouldn't even check to see if the rooms was available earlier. Then come 3pm they had a system breakdown. Probably because everyone turns up at one time. So we didnt get keys till almost 4pm. A dispointing start. We then had dinner booked for 8:30pm but never got seated till 9:30pm. (Even though we wwre told last seating is 9pm) it was an anniversary trip for our parents so was very let down at the service. Very disappointed Gym was out of use Rooms were nice, but the heating/aircon was just doing its own thing. So sleep was very broken. Not at all impressed

On arrival we were allocated room 509 got up there with the luggage and the door wouldn’t open despite going green, back down to reception to be told oh yeah we have a problem with that door you can either have the actual key or another room. We went for the other room not wanting to have to trek up and down again in the heat if the door still didn’t open. Allocated room on 4th floor but only one towel. Tried to call reception but the flash phone system doesn’t work so asked when we went down but the towel never arrived then on getting into bed realised there were stains on the bedding but unable to do anything about it given the time of night and the phone not working. I’d say the hotel is 3* at best, no fridge or coffee maker, bathroom door all broken at the bottom and not a great area, one drunk passed out on the steps to the hotel two on the corner shooting up at 6pm. Not ideal when traveling alone as a female with an 11 year old.

We were at the Clayton hotel, for afternoon tea, [which was a present]. Ambiance - excellent, hotel lovely, restaurant well laid out. Food presentation - very nice. Quality of food - mixed, nice to get different sandwich fillings, but stale mini baguet. Quantity of food - very poor, very small amounts. Service mixed - good attention when we arrived, but they forgot to bring our pot of tea, and never offered us a refill and they also forgot to bring our prosecco. Had to ask them to bring both. Value for money - very poor, just glad we hadn't paid for it. Incidently, really clean, decent toilets, but no hotel car parking.

I booked an afternoon tea for my niece as it was her birthday. My son was coming with us too. On entering the hotel it was beautiful, we had a warm reception and were shown to the restaurant. When we were seated we were shown the menu for our afternoon tea. We were given a choice of either vegetarian or regular. I asked the waiter if we could mix the sandwiches and he repeated, quite flippantly I thought, "vegetarian or regular". We opted for vegetarian. When the tea came out it didn't look appealing and everything was squashed on the platter. The sandwiches looked sloppy, and fell apart when i picked one up and it was worse when i tried to bite into them. The scones were so hard I had trouble cutting into them, and the cakes tasted as though they had been left out all night. My son had to pay for his meal because i had paid for only 2 online. He gave the waitress some money but she didnt return with his change! The best thing about our tea was my cappuccino, and our Proseccos. I will definitely not be recommending this hotel for its restaurant. The 1st photo is the way the food was presented and the 2nd photo is the food we left.

I booked an executive suite … at this place… what a joke.. small , dark and tired …. We had an accident and spilt tea on the bed …. The cleaner would not change the bed as they said they only do it every 3 days…. And you have to request at reception to every day or they won’t clean it or change the towels, I complained at reception… but this was a wasted effort…. I asked for a refund for the remaining part of my stay… so I could try and salvage at least a couple of days of the break. We never ate there but saw others sending food back . If you are staying in Birmingham do yourself a big favour and stay somewhere else, the Clayton is a poorly run below average hotel .

We had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay with a very nice atmosphere throughout this hotel. The staff were very attentive both at the checking in desk, particularly with Daniela, who was very welcoming and very helpful throughout our stay in making sure we were happy. Also the quality of the dinner was very well cooked and tasty, and we were served by a very cheerful waitress called Mariana from Portugal who was very attentive during our time in the restaurant. We enjoyed the breakfast and were well looked after by Charlotte, we believe her name was. All in all the Hotel was clean to a high standard. We look forward to future visits.

Lovely hotel and nice restaurant. Staff friendly and service very good. Starters of Falafels very good, Nachos were OK. To the main, looked good but not 4 star, in fact I'm aghast that a 4 star hotel would charge £15 for essentially low quality frozen fish. More batter than fish. How hard is it to make a fresh batter and coat a piece of fresh fish. Not that hard. Don't get me started on the tinned mushy peas. Would stay in the hotel again but will be giving the restaurant a wide berth next time. Sorry you need to up your game.

This is a little hidden gem, Birmingham is literally littered with desi pubs all over so the options for a good mixed grill and a pint is endless. Me and 2 friends came to this pub recently and I couldn't fault a single thing, the food was amazing, striking a good balance of spice and heat whilst not being overwhelmingly hot. Great selection of beers on tap as well and all the sports on offer as well. Will definitely come again and can't recommend it enough.
