Clay Oven Tandoori giffnock in East Renfrewshire

Pakora was delicious. But Kashmiri korma with lamb was tasteless, bland. Bizarre to eat and didn’t in the end. Garlic nan was nice.

Purchased a home delivery meal for one on Saturday evening. Absolutely first class service and there is no better Indian food anywhere on this planet. The only constructive criticism (joking of course) I would say is the portion size is humongous. I could only eat the chicken pakora as there was too much (not complaining). Good thing is I have the Chicken Tikka Massala for my Sunday lunch. Keep up the good work Clay Oven.

We have ordered from the Clay Oven multiple times, and the running theme is that the delivery times are absurdly long and the customer service is horiffic. The curries themselves are nice but the menu is notable by its absence of king prawns. Generally, when these are unavailable I opt for paneer but this option is not available for customers at the Clay Oven either, so I always opt for the prawns. However, the prawns themselves are not very appetising – they are normally quite transparent and come with their digestive tract still intact. It has become so unpalatable to me that I now refuse to order from here. Also, the nan breads don't strike me as freshly made in the tandoor, it's probably more likely that they probably come from a market or factory somewhere. The Clay Oven markets itself as being a top-end take away, but in most of these areas it falls well short of the mark.

Sorry Abbas but as you know I have had take away before that were good however the food on Sat night 23/11/24 was terrible and the Nan even came burnt despite waiting for over 50 minutes for a collection. Disappointing too was listening to calls coming in where customers had been waiting nearly 2 hours for a delivery. Perhaps cut down on the amount of orders and take more time with the ones your chefs are doing and the end product will be better. Time to go to another Indian now I'm afraid till you get things sorted.

This review is purely for delivery time as I can’t comment on the food as it’s not here yet. Two nights in a row. 1hr 45mins and a family meal delayed.

Extremely rude staff , lie on apps to get orders then message later to triple the delivery time , refuse to cancel orders and act like this is your fault , would recommend literally any other place in the southside as not only is the food going to be better but the staff will be more considerate and they won’t be trying to con you into ordering

Delicious food and excellent service

The food was very good but in my opinion very overpriced. We would have been cheaper going to a restaurant. For that reason I won't go back, just too expensive. Over £30.00 for 2 curries, no drinks or anything, one rice abd one naan bread.

Home.delivery forntwo curries was 90 mins ! , I was told 45-60 max. Food is nice but next time I will go elsewhere that can deliver in a reasonable time

Ordered 3 hours ago and it still isn’t here. I know it’s a Saturday but that’s why i placed my order just after they opened. 3 damned hours is ridiculous and they never answer the phone. Such a shame as i always liked their food but won’t be ordering again. Edit: finally got thru on the phone. They sent to for delivery hours ago but think the driver went to the wrong address. They made a fresh order and i drive to the restaurant to pick it up myself as i was so hungry. They refunded my delivery cost and were very apologetic. All told i got to eat my food four hours after placing the order.

Absolutely shocking delivery service, over 2 hours and the food is still not arrived, keep giving this place another try but unfortunately will not be using again. I should have just ordered elsewhere

Just had a take away from Clay Oven, the food was delicious, very good size portions, very tasty, service was very good considering how busy it was. Staff not appearing to be under pressure, which shows their professionalism. Would definitely recommend and will be returning.

Feel like most poor reviews are based on delivery times and apps that are used to order food rather than the food itself. I usually collect the food and it’s always been excellent. Got a delivery last night, yes it took an hour and fifteen minutes but it was a Saturday night peak time. Food arrived on time and was piping hot. The chicken in the curries are very tender and big chunks too. Set meals are excellent value in my opinion. Recommended this place to anyone

Over 1h 40m for a delivery. Sorry I hate leaving bad reviews but it’s not the first time. You’ve been saying you’re trying to improve this for years.. just employ more drivers!

I can only review the quality of the food as it was delivered to my home. First order was June 2024 and was excellent, though I never review on the basis of one meal. Our second was delivered August 2024 and must say that it was consistent with the previous. The delivery was with us at the time requested. Great food and great service. Highly recommended.

I am so angry at this restaurant. I usually order food and it’s delicious and to do so I use Uber eats etc as the restaurant unfortunately doesn’t deliver to our house (despite being 12 minutes drive). I was phoned soon after placing my order to say my order would take an hour and a half and I asked to cancel and refund and I would go elsewhere as I am a shift worker and did not want to wait that long for my food. I was told by a female on the phone that they would hurry up the order it would arrive within the hour. I then phoned her back and said I would pick up the order if it made things easier to which I was told no, it’s easier for them to deliver. After waiting an hour and forty minutes the Uber eats driver turned up with someone else’s order and had delivered my order to somebody else so have waited two hours to end up with no food (not his fault - he was probably stressed by the amount of orders they’ve taken to make as much money as possible with no regard for any of the customers waiting times). To actually lie to a customer to try and get their money is absolutely disgusting behaviour in my opinion, there was no way it was coming within an hour and to tell me not to collect it was also just bad on their part. I work long shifts and just wanted a nice treat on my weekend and it’s all been ruined thanks to the worst service I’ve experienced from a takeaway in my life. So let down and disappointed by this.

Ordered a home delivery through just eat never delivered got a call to phone restaurant re driver unable to find location which is only a mile away they had house no and phone number and postcode tried phoning six times no answer sent messages no reply quick to take the money not so quick to return it contacted just eat who stated their info shows food was delivered unbelievable customer service

Just had an unbelievably good meal delivered. Everything so fresh and tasty. Delivery was bang on time quoted and we stay quite far from the shop. All in all, absolutely flawless. 10/10

Driver was late and couldn't find my house. They said it was a shop. Apparently that was an issue with the Uber app. But when it arrived, my drink was missing and THEY ARE CHARGING ME EXTRA MONEY BECAUSE THEY CAME BACK. I've never heard of this in my life! Ridiculous.

curry first class chicken so tender only thing that let it down was how unprofessional and cheeky driver was took a lot of abuse from him for no reason and cheek he gave me for not given him a tip.maybe if he has nicer attitude he would of got a tip.

Ordered 2 hours ago, still not arrived. When I called to enquire the girl sniggered at me.on the phone when I complained. Will not order again. It used to be much better , always approaching an hour. Used it for years but recently it has been appalling wait. Because food is good we keep giving another chance, but this is last time. Shabby !

Lovely food waste off time ordering online waited as long

Ordered from these guys. They cancelled the order and refunded me. Then two weeks later retried the card and took the money.

Ordered via Uber eats , fancied mixed grill .. however there’s no description on what one gets .. normally lamb /chicken tikka , lamb /chicken seekh kebab , wings…. This was chicken n lamb tikka .. lamb was chewy like gum, chicken was edible as were rice n curry sauce … also forgot the peri peri chips …

I didn’t want to write this review, I did message clay oven through the official Facebook page asking for management details to log a complaint but I was ignored. So I am now writing this to inform everyone about the terrible downhill service at clay oven as I am beyond so fed up and we have gave this business enough of our money. My husband and I have ordered from clay oven for the last 5 years since moving into our house. We are always the first people to recommend this place to anyone and everyone. But not now. The food is amazing however recently it’s went downhill big time. There use to be a young woman who took orders and there was never any issues. Not sure if she has left but my goodness the place has changed. The staff are extremely rude. We place the same order all the time, I have the order on my phone notes and I read it out and tick it off as I go along then I get the member of staff to read it back to me. A few weeks ago we had family visit and we decided to order from clay oven. My husband and I stupidly went on about how it’s the best Indian food they will ever try. The staff forgot to give my husband a bag of food when he went to collect it, when he eventually got home with the food half the items were missed. When we called to tell the staff this, the extremely RUDE female member of staff told my husband that I had never ordered those items in the first place. I 100% did, so I do not appreciate your staff member coming up with excuses. So disrespectful. Also there was no apology and we felt so stupid for telling our family how amazing the food was when half their order wasn’t there. The following week, we had items missing again, this time the male member of staff told my husband he hasn’t ordered those items. It was my husband who placed the order so knew straight away the male member of staff was lying and using it as another excuse. NO APOLOGY, We ordered again and our food took over 2 hours to come. When we called to see where our food was we were told the driver had left and would be with us soon……… we had to call again 30mins later!!! NO APOLOGY!! Unsure what has happened, clearly overwhelmed with the orders, clearly about the money as there must come a point where you stop taking orders . Focus on the orders you have and get them right. The customer service is absolutely shocking. If you read the reviews everyone is saying the same food is amazing but the service is atrocious. And the staff use the same excuse on missed orders to everyone that the customer didn’t order the food in the first place. Also just to add every week when we place the same order the price changes. There is no set price and when we challenge it we get told we are wrong and the price has never changed. Not sure who you are trying to fool, we order the same thing. So frustrating. The amount of money we have gave this place over the last 5 years and not even an apology when they have messed up. Looking elsewhere now. And will not be recommending.

I wish there was an option to put no stars. Used to love coming here and enjoyed the food until recently as when we order we have been given the wrong thing. Today upon ordering we clarified the order with the lady at the front because multiple times they have given us the wrong thing. She was quite rude and suggested it was us ordering it incorrectly. We have yet again received the wrong thing. Despite having had her confirm the order back to us. It’s safe to say we will never be ordering from here again

Delivery time is shocking! As many other reviews have stated it took 2 hours. Ordered through deliveroo but as they use their own driver there is no way to track delivery. Order placed before 7pm, phoned for an update just before 8pm to be told it would be leaving in 10 minutes, 8:45pm still nothing and I live 5minutes away. Tried to phone and cancel but couldn’t get through and when I did there was no apology, we were just told it would be there soon. Certainly won’t be ordering here again.

Doesn’t matter how good a restaurant/takeaway’s food is if their service is appalling. Ordered for collection at 19:35, food was finally ready at 20:10. No updates on my order and a minimal apology for the awful service.

Get my take aways from here and not had a bad one yet. All have been amazing and cannot complain on bit. Outrageously good for the price. Quite often do deals like 20% off on Uber Eats

Spiced onions, poppadoms, Nan, rice and curry sauce was lovely. Unfortunately however the chicken was a little chewy and tough. This has happened twice now so don’t think I’ll be back

Order from here all the time and the food is so tasty and good value. Service from Pranav is always top notch too! He’s always friendly and never gets our order wrong! 👍🏼

Food is very well presented and served hot. Aloo Gobi quite bland but I suspect the other dishes are better and I’d give it another go probably.

One of the best hidden gems in the Southside I seen a couple reviews about delivery time but it's not the biggest shop so delivery time can vary depending on time and especially if there's sports events I've ordered almost every curry out of here and not once have I had a bad meal can tell the meat is of excellent quality and never had a complaint I'm always happy to wait longer for good food and chicken pakora is always on point and not dry like several other establishments I've ordered from withing the same distances keepup the good work guys

Normally love the food from Clay oven. My son and myself ordered chips cheese and butter chicken. Haven't tasted anything as bad so salty. Uneatable.

Absolutely delicious! Was a bit of a trek getting to the shop by public transit but well worth it. Really enjoyed everything we ordered, and would happily visit again!

Always great food and fast became a local legend. Only knocked a star off as they sometimes cant cope with the volume of delveries and you will be waiting a very long time for it to arrive if ordered on a Friday/Saturday.

Ordered the butter chicken masala, veg butter masala, veggie pakora and spiced onions. Tried many a curry gouse and this was genuinely the best curry I've ever had. Everything was absolutely delicious. Cannot recommend enough.

Have ordered from Clay Oven a fair few times. Food is always great, big portions and well worth the wait. By far one of the best Indian/Pakistani takeaways in Glasgow. Would highly recommend.

If you are hungry! Simply don’t bother, ordered said it would be 25-45 mins it was an hour and half, when we phoned we got told to wait 15/20 min after we waited still didn’t turn up, so we phoned and cancelled the order and asked for a full refund, but we were kept waiting on the phone too spoke to 3 different people. Honestly don’t bother there’s other great places in Glasgow. And as from reading reviews we aren’t the only ones. Next time we will check reviews before ordering. Still waiting for the refund…. So so disappointed.

Quality take away. We order from East Kilbride to collect. Had a set meal with Veg Pakora, south Indian Chilli Chicken Tikka, garlic nan and rice. Spectacular curry bursting with flavours and perfectly spiced.

Ordered for the first time tonight for fathers day. Delivery took 2 hours! On opening the order there were items missing. Called to report this & was given an apology & told they would be sent out. It's now another 2 hours later and haven't received the missing items. AVOID!!

I ordered through Uber Eats. The delivery was over an hour late!. When the food finally arrived, I have to admit it was pretty good. However ordered a set meal for 1 and there was enough to feed a small nation. Considering this is called Clay Oven Express, I think they should consider a change of name!

Not a great experience the food was awful, cold and too salty to eat. Sadly when we called to explain we had the misfortune of speaking to the most rude man. We wanted to give them a chance to rectify but sadly were with a rather poor attitude , customer service and food not strong points for this business.

As with others, food is fine once it arrives but this is the 3rd time the wait time has been approaching 2 hours, after advertising a delivery time of 50 mins when ordering and lies of "they're on the way" "it's a few minutes away". I don't understand how they can consistently underestimate it by soooo much. Never again.

Amazing quality Indian, had the garlic chilli chicken and was outstanding!!! Would rush back. Staff also very friendly, especially the two girls at the front counter.

Had a heavy day at work come home before I went to shower I placed a order.... Some reason Clay Oven thinks its kool to Cancel my order @750pm.... Clearly stated they are open and deliver here But I have already made a order from them... But today they cancelled my order with out any explanation.. For that you lost a customer today And I'll always remember to review you guys in the Future...

Nearly 2 hours for chips and a bit of pakora. Was 5 stars but 1 now.

2 stars because the food is excellent, but this is the third time I've waited approx 2 hours when they've given me an estimated delivery time an hour or so sooner. The food is so good I'd given it a 2nd and 3rd chance after being left waiting for ages for the delivery. Tonight is the last time. Shame. I really like the food, but waiting for 2 hours is not on.

Best takeaway Indian in the area with cracking tasty mains and friendly staff. Watch out tho as it is extremely busy on a weekend, so be prepared for a worthwhile wait for your fabby food. The team do give (imo) accurate wait times to help you plan your evening, and that's a big help.

Great curries as always. I love the staff in here as always they make you feel at ease when ordering. Of course staff are always warm towards customers as it is a family-run business and I think that would be a factor. Five-stars all round!

Food was great! I was hoping for a little bit more from the food but overall a great experience.

I have used this takeaway several times and they’ve always been good until this weekend. Delivery time was over 2 hrs and that was with a second call at 1 3/4 hrs. When the food finally arrived it was look warm and frankly it was the worst curry I’ve ever tasted. Sorry guys but I won’t be back again and I’ve posted on FB to warn all the people I recommended you to that you’re not good anymore. Shame!

The food was cold, there were sauces missing, and one of the dishes was incorrect and had been replaced with something else. We waited almost 2 hours and were told lies when we called up. We’ll never be ordering from here again and will advise others to do the same.

The delivery time was in excess of two hours and even after phoning and being told that it would be next to be cooked and delivered. It took a further 25 minutes to turn up.Worse was yet to come after opening the bags the Pakora they were luke warm and not with enough sauce for the amount of Pakora ordered. The Peshwari Naan was not a Peshwari Naan, the Chicken Dhansak was not a Dhansak and tasted extremely bland and the overall meal in general was cold. Overall a really poor meal and would not recommend to anyone else.

Appalling delivery times, waiting over 2 hours, for home delivery. Starving! Phoned to be told we were next on the list, an obvious lie! The food, when it did eventually arrive was barely warm. The food itself was just OK, nothing special. So not a very satisfactory experience from start to finish. For the price I would have expected a lot better all round! Definitely not worth repeating.

It’s absolutely delicious. Especially the Desi Masala and the Saag. My go-to Indian takeaway in the south side - and it’s not as if there isn’t much choice. It can be a wait for a delivery but the food is worth it and the folk who work there and deliver are nice, too.

I have been using this establishment since it opened, and I think the quality of the food is excellent and well priced. The staff are knowledgeable and very pleasant,and the home delivery service first class. Since the lockdown, they have been providing a home delivery only service, I am a key worker and really appreciate it after a hard day's work! very well done- much appreciated!

Best Indian I’ve had in Glasgow. Always tasty and good portion sizes. Absolutely loved the restaurant in Shawlands and was gutted when it closed. Well worth going out of the way to get a takeaway from the Giffnock original though. The peshwari naan is always a delight.

The best Indian takeaway in the area without question, and arguably a higher standard than its restaurant competitors as well. The Tindaloo is a particular stand out and the pakora is delicious and plentiful. Can’t recommend it highly enough
