Clapton Hart in Hackney

Two pints for £14 after recent renovations. Not the same old neighbourhood local.

Urban Pubs have done a really nice refurb of The Clapton Hart. Nice outside space, but it does look like they've copied The Crooked Billet quite a lot. One of the staff at the bar was really nice, but the guy with the mullet didn't seem to be interested in hospitality, seemed like it was more of a job rather than being there for the customers.

Amazing lunch - gorgeous decor, great food and really friendly staff. The outdoor area is also lovely.

So much better after the refurb! Exactly the kind of pub needed around these parts. Brilliant service, great drink selection and delicious food. Perfect for a night out or a quiet pub lunch with kids, actually the best roast in the area- this place caters to all. Highly recommend!!

Top pub. Airy, light, tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean, proper beer on tap, good food and cheerful, friendly staff. Will be back!

Really lovely pub, as always. Lovely space to have a Sunday roast, lots of space and cool things to look at. Very kid friendly (as we had a 3 and 5 year old with us) but also not overrun so a nice place for the adults too. Great selection of appetisers and deserts. What really stood out though was the WONDERFULLY FRIENDLY staff. They went above and beyond to engage with us and the kids and were just so nice, it was really pleasant! Would definitely go again.

Great pub.. Staff are great friendly, efficient, Nice selection of beers, nice food. Lots of changes since my last post. Staff have changed my favourites have left and that's very sad, but the new staff who are regulars I really enjoy a bit of Bants with. The beer is very usual, nothing to write home about but also, something for everyone. Food is pretty good, the squid blew my tiny mind, but I think at the moment it's trying to get a gastro pub feel that may not be achievable, sequestering a section of the pub just for meals which ends up with a totally empty room while customers that are drinking and standing waiting for tables, but people like us who are drinking but maybe will order a small plate or side dish to snack on feel like we're not able to use the restaurant tables. It's a bit weird. It makes us feel uncomfortable about where we're allowed to sit. Even though it's our usual weekend pub. P.s. thanks for the great response! 👍

Beautiful space, very atmospheric. The two main courses were delicious. The apple crumble tasted good, but the crumple topping was a bit too dry for me. The waiter was attentive and very friendly.

Delighted that this pub has been taken over by new owners. The new staff are all very sound and the food is incredible and reasonably priced. Lovely decor as well - it's retained the original charm but had a much needed facelift.

Really loving the new Clapton Heart and the Sunday roast was great. Only suggestion to them would be that we found it a bit cold, both in the main dining room and the lounge area - where there is a fire but it wasn't on. Totally recommend though.

Reviewing my two visits to the newly refurbished pub and kitchen opened recently. First visit was an intimate lunch of 3 and the second was a large family birthday party of 24. In both cases the pub was a perfect setting for these groups. The staff were all extremely polite, friendly and personable but always professional. All the arrangements and calls I had to make to organise the large group party and their needs were handled in a well informed, accommodating and helpful manner. The overall atmosphere is inclusive, warm and inviting. The modern and well presented decor gives a tasteful and stylish aesthetic to the space and yet retains the imprint of an authentic local pub with in it. The large spaces are filled with unique areas that will work to give any type of visiting group or couple exactly the spaces they need (some areas are lively and buoyant and some cosy and quieter). There seems to be plenty of seats and tables to accommodate everyone comfortably on a busy day or night. The Food menu choices are responsibly modest resulting in all the food coming out of the kitchen fresh, hot and well presented and tasty. (The triple cooked chips were fresh, hot, crunchy and delicious!). The wine list is very good and their cocktails were excellent. Their live DJ’s/Music seamlessly switches the vibe from the casual afternoon pub lunch setting in to a vibrant ‘Saturday-night-out’ experience over the weekend! NOTE - there are still outdated images of the pub and old menus (from before the refurb and new management) to be found on Google/website.

A good, old-fashioned pub with good beers - including some Five Points and Redemption breweries when I visited - lots of seating, screens for major sports, and very high ceilings. Very popular and with a very friendly community feel. People who live nearby should feel very lucky to have this as their local!

Decided to pop in for something to eat, and was pleasantly surprised how relaxed the atmosphere was. The food was delicious and the service was great especially from Roseanna! We were really happy we decided to ‘pop’ in and can’t wait to return, it’s definitely a must if you’re in that neck of the woods. Even better it’s bigger enough that you can eat and talk while others can drink and watch sport and you don’t disturb each other and another plus for me is Children are more than welcome! Great friendly, family pub!

Gorgeous Xmas Eve - food was really deliscious (big yes for veggies) and our waiter Kieran super lovely and helped us navigate the menu with patience and kindness. Good wine selection too

Fantastic service from Andrew. 3 items not available on menu at 7pm. Main issue was such loud music.

Had a roast in here yesterday and was so surprised with how good it was! Stars of the show were the Roast potatoes, giant Yorkshire pudding and probably the best cauliflower cheese I’ve ever had!

Ruby served us well. The food was plentiful and very tasty. We enjoyed the drinks. The pub has had a very happy refurbishment. And we got a doggy bag hello.

Love this pub! It’s a large space split into different areas so perfect for bigger groups but has cosy nooks and crannies for a quieter drink. The new refurb has smartened it up, as it was looking a bit tired, but it’s kept the charm of the peeling walls and vintage touches. The staff are fun and friendly. A great pub all round

They've done a great job on this place it is top notch. Top food, top beers and cosy as hell.

Great venue, great service, good food

Great pub since the referb. Used to be a tatty & soulless. It is now a comfortable, welcoming place to be. New addition of football in the side room works well, decent screens and seating, but doesn't dominate the whole venue as it's not on in the main bar area or restaurant. Used to hate this pub, but it's so so much better now.

Refurb has completely ruined this pub. All the previous character has gone and it is now just a generic gastropub with nothing to set it apart from every other one in London. A real shame as it used to be great. Pool table has been removed as well.

Great pub and even better since the refurb

Before the refurbishment, this pub catered to everyone in Hackney—£3.50 pints of cask ale and affordable lagers. Now, prices have skyrocketed, and many local ales are gone. £7.20 for an Asahi is outrageous. Pubs like this really need to curb their prices and stop taking advantage of punters.

Lovely spacious venue, with a quality back garden. Great food and drink, with ace service!

Terrible pub - Evitar! Uno de mis lugareños y desearía que fuera mejor. Qué pena. El personal es antipático y charla detrás de la barra mientras esperas a que te atiendan. El gerente es completamente grosero y desinteresado y nos habló como si fuéramos criminales en lugar de clientes! Cuando este pub abrió fue genial, ahora todos lo evitamos. Siempre hay grandes grupos de ruidosos laicos en la mesa de billar bloqueando la puerta principal con comentarios missoginistas mientras caminas. La comida es nefasta y no hemos tenido una comida aquí que no hemos tenido que enviar de vuelta por una razón u otra, especialmente los almuerzos del domingo 😖 ¡Nos hemos rendido y nos vamos a otro lado y te sugerimos que lo hagas también!

This was meant to be the venue with a dedicated room to celebrate our sons 30th birthday. On the morning of the planned party, we received an email advising us the room had been double booked and our party had to be held in another room. This room failed to materialise. So we had 60 people in the main bar area. The food is very limited and looked very different to the pictures on this Web site. The guests had travelled from Spain all over UK, not locals any stretch. The pictures are VERY deceptive, the place feels its closer to being pulled down, the pictures are very misleading. Would we return, certainly not for an event, but a drink, yes, perhaps.

Didn't have food but no point giving low points if the service and atmosphere was on point Had a good time with my mates and the place has a nice trainspotting film vibe for some reason. Worth a pint with friends 👍🏾

Great pub. Spacious, not too packed despite being there on a Friday evening. Comfortable seats and the food is tasty and inexpensive.

Large pub with a great beer selection and a welcoming vibe that was as much indie alternative as it was hipster cool. When we went on a Saturday night the DJ had just set up as we left but the first few songs he played fit the mood perfectly and with a 1am licence it felt like the night was just getting going when we had to leave. The food menu is a bit limited but it's certainly not targeting the gastropub market but much more a fun non pretentious independent spirit. I liked it even and i know my younger self would have loved it.

I enjoy the staff and their friendly approach. Very knowledgeable on their food choices and drinks. Nice open space, very good if you want to relax at times. And do work inside the pub. The security is also very friendly and welcoming.

This was dreadful. It was cold outside and the pub had three fireplaces none of them were lit. It was freezing not even any heating in the absence of flit fires. The two polar bears lying dead in the corner should have warned us. The atmosphere was cold and would have been much better had it been warm with the fireplaces lit. It was shocking unfortunately our complaints went unnoticed.

A lovely traditional boozer with loads of space and nooks and crannies. Sunday roast was decent enough but nothing special. We went on a particularly cold January afternoon and the place was bloody freezing. Might go back in summer.

Five of us ate a Sunday roast dinner here. The beef was as tough and dry as leather, the potatoes completely hard and the gravy tasteless. The other veg and yorkshire pudding were well cooked. There were no puddings available (despite being on the menu) ... they said they were 'sold out' but we were the first being served. Service unfriendly and toilets unuseably filthy. Avoid this place!

Very friendly atmosphere and really nice staff BUT so disappointed with Roast Beef Dinner. Yorkshire pud was over cooked so any amount of gravy would not help. Had to ask for more of the gravy to help eat it. Vegetables were cooked ok but hard at the edges, I’ve had better roast potatoes and meal did not arrive hot. It felt that the meal had been cooked ages ago and just quickly reheated. Did not complain as it would have spoilt the occasion with family. Will not return.

On a busy Saturday night, the ladies toilets were out of order, no running water in the taps, the staff were rude and not experienced enough to work a busy bar. At least a 10 minute wait for a drink!

Massive... lot's of rooms, cubby holes and seating styles, even a large garden area. Shabby chic and intentionally down at heel fashionable feel. Friendly and swift bar service plus some great real ales and wines. Sensible prices. Dog friendly too

The pub is all right but the DJ that is always there on Saturdays really sucks. People in the crowd walk up to him asking to play something different and he turns everyone away. Which is fair enough, he's in charge of the music... But this happens loads of times each night. Just come to terms with the fact that people don't like your music. Listen to people's feedback instead of being so cocky. With better music it would be a much better experience. It's such a shame. I know people end up leaving out of frustration for the music.

Terrible food - cold roast, potatoes not cooked through, meat tough.

This used to be a great pub with a wonderful Sunday roast. Visited today and the roast was abysmal. The first plate brought out was cold, so was politely sent back. It came out again hot but the potatoes were raw in the centre, the meat overcooked and like leather and the vegetables still cold. I can see why the place is often half empty since the chef changed. So disappointing.

Beautiful old pub with a lovely vibe. One of my favourite East London boozers. Comfy and well picked furniture that is inviting and tasteful. Lots of space, so you can usually find a table. Great select of beers and ales. Food reasonable. Prices are great. See if you can find the fun pinball machine in one corner.

Very nice service :) the bartender with the glassed was very nice and helpful, will definitely come back. I got recommended to come here by some friends and it was one of the highlights from my trip. Greetings from Spain :)

I never went at a peak time but the vibe was nice no problems.

Horrible crowd influenced by horrible a bartender with glasses. He refused to serve me and my friend for no reason other than that my friend wanted her phone charged for her safety in getting back home. Won’t be returning anytime soon as the bartenders and people ruing the atmosphere

Nice Sunday DJ and atmosphere but a 1hr45min wait for food. Wouldn’t recommend after the Hackney half marathon - so many runners looking like they’re about to faint after waiting that long for food! Staff understandably rushed off their feet but also not very apologetic. Food was tasty when it finally came.

We organised a small event, hosted in a section of the pub. It went really well - the staff were really accommodating and made us feel welcome, even helping to sort out some tech for us which was above and beyond. We'd definitely come back for round 2!

Used to come to this pub loads - but really gone down hill. Everything’s sticky, unclean tables, unclean staff chef in the toilet with me and didn’t wash hands ? Check. Floor staff beach bum bloke in funny hat with AirPods in? Really? Check Uninterested bar staff glued to phone? Check. Clapton hart - hire some sparky staff who engage and care. Keep the pub clean. Sad to say this was a poor visit.

Terrible pub quiz: - It started 30 minutes late - The first 3 rounds were quite fun but took a long time to get through as there was no surround system - The music round was played through a phone so we couldn't hear the songs - The last 3 rounds had no questions planned so took forever and did not follow the round themes (the last round was 'Y2K true or false' but they resorted to another music round (through a phone(!!!))) - They didn't finish round 5 as they changed the theme last minute and couldn't pick any questions (it was a 2000s film and TV round but became lesbian films in the 2000s, so not enough questions) - The winning team had 10+ people in it and they left halfway through so I'm not sure how they won (so no one got the prize) - Picking the top 3 team winners seemed random (I imagine they forgot the questions/answers so couldn't score) I think the biggest issue is that they hadn't planned the questions, and didn't have the answers written down, so marking was impossible. I wouldn't mind so much but they still charged £2 each to enter and didn't even give out the cash prize as the winner left early. We've been to this pub many times but won't be coming back anytime soon, especially not for quizzes!

The Y2K quiz night was a fantastic quiz night which I don’t think I’ve been to anything similar to it before. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and how affordable the drinks were, a great combo for a successful quiz night! For their first time, they did a great job and I would absolutely go to more. Really warm and light hearted, looking forward to what’s in store next time. Thank you :)

I really liked The Clapton Hart. For a start, at £3.30 for a pint of bitter (and a good pint too) it's the cheapest pub in hackney I know. And it's a proper old style pub. Massive, with several rooms including comfy one off to the side. Pool table. Lovely.

Attended the 2000s/y2k pub quiz last night and was pleasantly surprised by how fun it was. The host was accommodating and it was nice to find a quiz that was geared towards queer people! Lovely atmosphere and I made new friends. Would go again

They had a pub quiz last night that was just what we needed coming back from the new year and the perfect way to start 2023 at the Clapton Hart! Shoutout to the staff for being as efficient and as friendly as ever and a special shout-out to the Quizmaster who mastered the role and created such an awesome buzz in the room. Regrettably, I didn’t have any of the food. But I will back for more quizzes, food and good times! Thanks Clapton Hart!

Clapton Hart is the best pub and it’s all thanks to Sandra’s hospitality, she’s so welcoming and has always been so kind when hosting. Highly recommend.
