Great people, and the food is fantastic and fast!

Best pizzas and burgers in Edinburgh -that's for sure. I order delivery from them for 3 or 4 years now, and I must admit -Their chef is a genius!

Deep Fried Mars is a scam! 5.50£ for a Mars!

Super clean, great food, generous portions. Had the donner roll. For a quick and inexpensive lunch, it’s the place to go!

We enjoyed fish and chips, haggis, and a fried mars bar - all were warm and tasted great. The staff was friendly and quick. Sitting on the Royal Mile in the sunshine with view of the sea is also wonderful.

After an afternoon of beers in the Scottish pub who then recommended the Clamshell for take away pizza….who would be disappointed??? Massimo is a legend - long Italian heritage in Edinburgh - 37 years and so friendly. The place is one of the cleanest fast food / take aways I’ve ever seen. The pizzas were fresh and well loaded with great ingredients - order a listed pizza and add your desires….. the crust is tops and the food hot!!!! Big thanks Massimo and staff at the Clamshell.

Surely the best Chippy in Edinburgh. The Chicken in Batter and I have to admit it was truly amazing to consume. The Batter was crispy and dry which some chippies that I have tried have never been able to achieve. You will need to wait for it to be cooked but that is worthwhile. Plus you know that the food is cooked fresh and it hasn't been kept warm for god knows how long like some chip shops tend to do. The chips were hot, dry and crispy. Having fish and chips on the High Street should be a top tourist thing to do in Edinburgh. Just make sure that if you do that the chips are from the Clamshell.

To be honest, I have only tried fried mars from them.. and it was delicious, their treatment is nice, the place is small, humble and narrow.. it sells fish and chips as well.

Great welcome, great humor. I should have had something other than the kebab which is far from excellent. I made my choice too quickly.

Maybe it’s because I was starving and very late but I love this place. I’ve never had doner meat in a roll before and while it doesn’t sound great. This really hit the spot. Apparently it’s one of the few places in the area that opens late. If I’m in Edinburgh, it’s late and I’m hungry I’ll definitely go back.

Fantastic Food. Had the hamburger supper, which was perfect. Unfortunately some customers were rude to the staff. When there was certainly no need to be. Definitely the best Chippy in the High Street.

Fast food place, friendly staff. Very delicious fries. Kitchen open until 2:00. The only thing that would improve is to have more vegetarian/vegan options.

Their salad for a donner kebab consists of lettuce and two slice of tomato? Where I live a salad for a donner kebab consists of lettuce, cabbage onions, tomatoes and coleslaw all for the princely sum of £7.00. You are charging £9.00 for a small donner kebab & salad all because you're in a tourist hotspot

Should have eaten the styrofoam packaging instead. Wouldn't have been as cold, dry and tasteless as the fish. Absolutely horrendous. Avoid if you can.

We grabbed fish and chips for lunch which was good. The staff there were friendly and accommodating. Do try their fried mars bar because it's really good if you are a chocolate lover. Perfect lunch for a cold day after walking around town, they have seats outside, limited seats but a great stop I would say.

Small takeaway on The Royal Mile with a huge menu. Food was freshly cooked to order. Very friendly service. We had Fish & Chips - Top Class!

My review today is polish lady English and understanding is terrible I asked for two portions of chips got 1 asked for unbattered sausages to be put in seperate trays ended up with sausage rapped in brown paper 6 times I said to portion of chips in curry sauce and the assistant ignored me if there was a rating for none you would of got NOTHING I paid £12.50 for one tray of chips and two sausages my opinion is try opening your ears

Got 1/2 fried pizza with chips and a fried mars bar with ice cream. Shared this with two other friends and made for a good in-between-meals snack. Definitely not healthy but delicious! Workers are friendly.

It was my first time visiting Edinburgh and I’d been told about DEEP FAT FRIED Mars bars and DEEP FAT FRIED pizza slices. I’d had a google to find some places for reasonable prices because I wasn’t expecting to like either and I found this place….. AMAZING! -There’s only seating for about 3/4 people inside so it’s definitely a takeaway but they have a little area just outside to sit and first me and my friend shared a deep fat fried Mars bar with ice cream. The batter wasn’t too thick and it wasn’t dripping in fat like I expected. Instead, the batter was crispy and with the ice cream the Mars bar went chewy. It was sooo good and the prices were reasonable so we came back a few hours later to try the deep fat fried pizza. Again, this was AMAZING. One of the young guys working there recognised us from before and was super friendly.

Absolutely horrible. I waited to get my order 15 minutes just having hot dog. More over hotdog roll was burned terribly. I can’t stand it cost £7. Bottle of mineral water is £2.50. It was just nighttime. I have to tell people they are horrendous or racist. I don’t recommend them strongly

Decent fried seafood platter for a late dinner

Had a big order so had to wait 10mins but it was worth it, everything was made fresh and was seasoned very well! Big portion for the price keeping in mind it’s in Edinburgh on The Royal Mile

I went back to the Clam Shell again and things have much improved. The staff remembered me and everything, food and service, was just great. Wonderful to eat fish and chips in the open air!

This place is situated in a perfect location in the old Town. We wanted to try the fried Mars bar, which was really tasty but overpriced around £5+ each for a small Mars bar. We then ordered the fish and chips. Honestly, I was in to minds when I sore it sitting there in the hot cabinet but I ordered it anyway. I should have gone with my instinct and walked away.

Absolute fantastic best chippy in Scotland I had a steak pie supper my partner had chips cheese n curry my son had chips and we enjoyed it prices are spot on too this is a wee hidden gem just down from the castle on royal mile staff are polite too and service is fast even during the tattoo when they where packed well done all involved fresh and filling

£50 for 3 meals, rip off. Guy was also very inappropriate and made me and my mother feel uncomfortable!! So rude. Won’t be back. Would not recommend. Food was also not anything special, bang average

Ate here 4 times in a row during my stay in Edinburgh for the fringe festival, safe to say it was some of the best food I had while in the UK

Hatten mal frittierten Snickers getestet. Riegel mit nur sehr wenig Teig gebacken, dazu billigstes „Vanilleeis“. Das ganze 5,95£. Völlig überteuert und nicht wirklich lecker. Vielleicht Geschmacksache. Fish& Chips; Fish ok aber die Chips ganz labberig und mies. Außerdem sehr salzig (versalzen). Insgesamt nicht zu empfehlen

If you are looking for the perfect deep-fried Mars bar on the Royal Mile then look no further. Here you can see the Mars bar being opened from the packet and then deep-fried in front of your eyes. It simply wouldn't be the same from a restaurant. And on top of that you get two scoops of complementary ice cream. Delightful.

The kebab and the potato with cheese and beans are amazing! We enjoyed our visit there very much. Thanks for this experience ❤️

Was really disappointing. Fish was tasteless, chips were ok. We had to pay extra for the tartar sauce which was 70p per sauce. Curry sauce was good. Service wasn't that friendly. Wouldn't recommend

This chippie is a favourite of my partners so obviously l had to give it a try and it didn't disappoint, the fish was a good size and you get a generous portion of chips the food isn't greasy and doesn't leave that lingering taste at the top of your mouth that l find from a lot of chippies these days, staff were lovely too and a nice area outside to enjoy your food whilst taking in the royal Mile

Nice halal place on the way to Edinburgh Castle. They did say not everything is halal. Only pizza, donner and chicken is halal. Food is average. Nothing extra ordinary. Place is very small. Few high seats inside while 2 tables with 8-10 chairs outside. Not cleaned after every guests departs.

I recently had the unfortunate experience of visiting this fish and chips as an Uber delivery driver. A fish and chips whose boss exhibited a distressing lack of respect and professionalism towards me. It is with great disappointment that I write this review to shed light on the unfavorable treatment endured by the delivery drivers. First and foremost, the boss's attitude towards the delivery drivers was abysmal. Instead of fostering a supportive and encouraging work environment, the boss treated me with disdain and disrespect. Furthermore, the boss exhibited a complete lack of understanding and empathy towards the challenges faced by delivery drivers. A successful and thriving business is built upon a foundation of mutual respect, teamwork, and a positive work culture. Regrettably, this particular establishment fails to meet these fundamental expectations. I feel compelled to warn potential customers about the negative environment that exists behind the scenes of this shop. Supporting a business that mistreats its staff sends a message that such behavior is acceptable, and I believe that it is essential for consumers to be aware of the reality of this establishment.

Lovely staff! The clam shell was a welcomed end to a lovely night. Try the onion rings and the brown sauce! Only thing, the black pudding was not edible, but don’t let this turn you off black pudding. It’s a must try elsewhere. Consider this a way to the end the night, thanks Clam Shell!

The father too busy on his phone and wasn’t happy when his son (who was clearly doing his best) was trying to manage the running of the shop. My fried mars bar was supposed to take 5 mins but took 10. And after waiting for that long for it to be ready he then proceeded to ask me, what are you after? As if I was a new customer. On top of that, a group of Muslims entered the shop and asked the young guy if they have vegetarian burgers which they do, but importantly asked if its fried in the same oil as the rest of the meat which he said yes it is. The father then said to him next time you ask me and tell the customer its not fried in the same oil. Maybe I misheard but the general attitude by the shop owner needs to change. There was an order of chicken ready and the lady outside didn’t hear her order. Shouting it from inside the shop is so impractical. And eventually when she came in to get it the owner muttered good morning. Which was being sarcastic. It just isn’t friendly or respectful. I personally wouldn’t visit again based on how I was served and how everyone else around was treated. The food itself was fine.

Fantastic food! Absolutely hit the spot and filled us right up. Your traditional Scottish scran, it was a great sized portion that was cooked well. The staff were so friendly and couldn’t be recommended enough.

Came to Edinburgh for a day trip and didn’t want to spend much money on food so decided to find somewhere quite casual for lunch. This place was perfect! I ordered chips with curry sauce which was really nice and portioned generously. I also tried a battered mars bar for the first time and it was a game changer to say the least. My food and a can of Diet Coke totalled just under £12 which isn’t too bad compared to alternative options in the area. My friend ordered a margarita pizza for her lunch which was lovely too. We were able to sit and eat our food inside which I thought was quite good. The owner was very funny and a great host, as well as the rest of the team who were very polite and welcoming. Really recommend this place!

For the food being overpriced for a chippy( which is expected as it is a touristy area) it didn’t make it taste any better. Our food was either completely dry and flavourless or soggy. We seen other people with fish and chips which looked okay but we won’t be going back next time we’re up the road. The staff were friendly though.

Visited Edinburgh from Newcastle and after a night out we were really hungry. Thankfully a couple sent us this way. The food was.absolutely beautiful and we cannot thank you enough ❤️

Ambiente molto piccolo con pochissimi posti a sedere, in orario di punta il servizio è stato un po’ lento, ma ci puó stare. Siamo passati per prendere il “tipico” mars fritto… onestamente si può stare anche senza 😅 almeno il gelato con cui è accompagnato è abbastanza buono.

I've been going there long before I moved here five years ago. It's got an amazing reputation and still holds. My friend from Ireland even heard about it, it's that good. Love them all there, although I don't use it as much because I live around the corner from it now. Go though. It's fantastic.

This place is a MUST stop after a day/night of touring the city. I ordered too much food because it all looked & smelled amazing...

Its an okay shop , a little costly 11.5 pounds for fish and chips it was 9.5 pound but they have increased their prices recently

Went for a late lunch after visiting the castle - had fish and chips, kebab and a deep fried mars bar - for a takeaway place the service was fantastic - it started to rain just as we had ordered (from being bright sunshine - typical scotland) and the staff very kindly brought in a table for us to eat at in the corner, they made up the mars bar fresh after we had our mains as they assured us it was better this way - and they were completely right! All the food was lovely, reasonably priced given its location and we were really impressed by the thoughtfulness of the service. Would definitely recommend if you are in the area.

It took me 6 months to find this place on google. I was here the day the queen died, Sept 8th. And got the fish and chips, and let me say I've never been more sick in my life. Don't eat here if you can help it.

The chips here are always amazing, really well cooked and super tasty. I've not sampled the other items yet but as for the chips I think they are my favourite in the city.

When we entered the shop, the attitude of both of the shop owners was so bad. We just arrived to Edinburgh early in the afternoon and wanted to grab some food for late lunch after a long trip from the South of England. We in a group of four people went with four small cabin suitcases and when we entered the shop owner didn't look at us in the eyes and said with a rude manner: this is the food shop not the airbnb although we left the luggage outside the food shop. We felt unwelcome and racism because when other European customers came in, she welcome very friendly at the door. we ordered the kebab and the wrap. the food was too salty and we couldn't even finish. I would definitely not recommend this food shop. TERRIBLE!
