Took two and a half hours to get delivered!

One of the nicest Jumbo haggis I’ve had from a chippy in ages! Full of flavour and has a nice spice to it.. 👌

Wir haben zwei Tage in Edinburgh verbracht, und auch wir wollten uns das authentische "Fish & Chips"-Erlebnis gönnen. Da dieser Standort doch recht gut bewertet ist (und auch gut besucht war), dachten wir, nichts falsch machen zu können hier. Die Speisekarte las sich extrem interessant (ich hätte zu gern die "Braveheart"-Pizza getestet, mich dann aber doch nicht getraut!), frittierte Marsriegel, Dönergerichte und und...natürlich Fish & Chips in diversen Varianten. Wir bestellten also unser Menü, was dann auch prompt in eine Schale gefüllt, mit Vinegar und brown sauce garniert und uns gereicht wurde. Ich glaube, dass ich noch nie so schlechte Pommes gegessen habe, sorry für den Vergleich, aber dagegen sind die Papp-Pommes beim gelben M ein Genuss. Pappig, farblos, leblos, matschig und zudem noch triefend vor Essig (zugegeben, man wird vorher gefragt, ob man denn möchte, und kann durchaus ein Veto einlegen oder auch eine andere Wahl der Sauce treffen. An dieser Stelle trifft den Inhaber also keine Schuld, wenn man mit Vinegar auf Pommes nicht so ganz warm wird. Probieren kann man es auf jeden Fall!). Was unser Geschmackserlebnis aber in keiner Weise verändert hätte. Der Fisch war lauwarm und ebenso matschig, die Panade war aber tatsächlich sehr schmackhaft. Allein dieser Umstand verschaffte meiner Bewertung dann die zwei Sterne. Der Hunger trieb es rein. Ich kann den Hype um dieses Bistro ehrlich gesagt, nicht ganz nachvollziehen. Vielleicht hatten wir auch einfach nur Pech, aber wenn dass die besten Pommes sein sollen, die die Insel zu bieten hat, bleibe ich weiter beim gelben M, da weiss ich wenigstens, was ich (nicht) zu erwarten habe ;)

We visit from Canada and come here everytime! We go for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Best fish and chips we have ever had in the UK. We stay in Newcastle and it is a quick 1hr 20min train to get to Scotland. We look forward to it everytime we visit. The owner is super friendly and great staff. We will be back there soon!

We have just eaten excellent Fish and Chips, freshly cooked, with a slightly greasy batter and fresh fish. For being in the center, in the main tourist street, I define it as excellent! The owner is Italian and is uniquely kind. Congratulations indeed!

Pasé una semana en Edimburgo, tuvimos la suerte de permanecer al otro lado de la calle de la concha de almeja en High Street. Massimo y su equipo tenían la mejor hospitalidad y humor acogedor le doy que un 5 estrellas también. Pedimos un montón de cosas durante la semana. Éramos cuatro. Pescado con papas fritas, papa al horno, perrito caliente, pizza, aros de cebolla. Todo fue excelente. Gracias Massimo! volveremos en 2 años jajaja Sinceramente, Lisa de los EE.UU.

Amazing tasting haggis and chips!

Excelente pescado con papas fritas, así como salchicha ahumada, la comida perfecta hasta altas horas de la noche! Estamos allí casi todas las noches después de tomar bebidas.

Super expensive fish and chips, and not near tasty enough to justify! The fish had been left out on the counter to drain for some reason rather than being cooked fresh - it ended up being really dry. I'm sure there are many better options for fish and chips away from the Royal Mile!

Clamshell ist ein vorbildlicher/super sauberer Laden. Wenn man in Edinburgh ist, muss man dort die Braveheart-Pizza essen. Simply Käse, Zwiebel und Haggis: einfach nur fantastisch! Die Mitarbeiter:innen sind super Freundlich und zuvorkommend. Wir lieben das Clamshell 🥰 Clamshell is an exemplary/super clean place. If you're in Edinburgh, you have to eat the Braveheart pizza there. Simply cheese, onion and haggis: just fantastic! The staff are super friendly and helpful. We love the Clamshell 🥰

The only thing open past 9pm. Delicious burgers and chips. Made fresh as soon as you order. Watched them grill the burger and cook the bacon. Great place and super helpful for tourists that travel all day and need something for late night eats. Thank you

£34 for 2 kebabs. £9 of which was added on for cheese. Absolute con merchants and charlatans. Taking advantage of normal people who fancy a kebab after the pub. Avoid

I went to Clam Shell to try deep fried Mars bar for the first time. It was super delicious. The batter was so light and the mixture of the melted chocolate and the ice cream was delightful. The staff were really friendly as well. It's a 10 out of 10 you should try it out.😍😍😍. The fried Mars bad plus the ice cream was £5.95

Very friendly, family-run business which I always frequent during The Fringe. All their food is tasty, and they will deep fry any chocolate bar you bring in, such as Reese’s. Highly recommend!

Popped in for a quick lunch, and had to grab a Mars bar (although then realised we shoulda gone a Snickers), fish and chips, sausage and curry sauce. Great wee meal, they didn't skimp on the curry sauce either! Definitely recommend if you're after something on the Royal Mile that's deep fried and delicious.

A little fast food restaurant... Let's try it. The boss takes great care of us. The cheeseburgers are excellent and they add plenty of fries with them. We came back the next day... Even better, great welcome. A giant fish'n'chips! The cheeseburger is always super good. Great welcome, the chef is Italian, speaks a little French, in short, a great meeting and his team with a smile too ✌️ Don't hesitate.

Honestly the best chips I've had in ages. Lovely staff that checked up on us and offered other sauces. The brown sauce is great and the order was perfect! Well done!

Love this place! It’s in the busiest street in Edinburgh but orders are always quick, arrive hot, and are perfect. The gent who owns the shop always accommodates us and checks we’ve got everything we ordered. Fantastic service

Me and my family got to Edinburgh around 11 and we were starving. My family and I all got the fish and chips but my cousin she ended up getting a burger. I thought it was because we were starving but I had went days later. That was honestly the best thing I ate the entire trip there and everyone there was nice! If I ever go back to Edinburgh im definitely going right back!

I went to the Clam Shell to try a deep fried mars bar and I wasn't disappointed. There's not much else to say. I loved it. It wasn't heavy and greasy like I thought it would be, it was a really light batter. They even served it with some ice cream on the side.

kindest staff, delicious food! don't hesitate to ask for more seasoning if you like. also keep in mind that due to its location, it's a tad bit overpriced = 12.99 for fish and chips!

Wir haben an unserem ersten Tag in Edinburg lecker Fisch and Chips essen wollen und sind mit dem Essen im Clam Shell schön auf die Nase gefallen. Wir haben bei einem freundlichen jungen Mann bestellt und wir hatten den Satz noch nicht beendet da standen schon die Chips vor uns und wir wurden gefragt, ob wir Vinegar drauf haben wollten. Ja, gerne und dann wurde der ( auch bereits fertige) Fish draufgelegt. Wir haben bezahlt und uns hingesetzt. Der Fish war lauwarm und die darunterliegenden Chips warm aber matschig…. Der Hunger treibst rein, wie man so schön sagt, aber empfehlenswert ist diese Fish- Bude nicht! Wir haben heute woanders richtige leckere Fish and Chips gegessen.

I visited here for some late night food at the end of a night out with school friends. The staff were very friendly and the food was enjoyable. I had a pizza and was able to put it on the shelf that runs round the wall inside the takeaway and eat it there. I'd visit again.

Staff is very friendly and kind. I had their marsbar, but it was disappointing compared to other places. I missed the crispness. Since it was still a marsbar and freshly battered, it was alright to eat.

We enjoyed fish and chips, haggis, and a fried mars bar - all were warm and tasted great. The staff was friendly and quick. Sitting on the Royal Mile in the sunshine with view of the sea is also wonderful.

After an afternoon of beers in the Scottish pub who then recommended the Clamshell for take away pizza….who would be disappointed??? Massimo is a legend - long Italian heritage in Edinburgh - 37 years and so friendly. The place is one of the cleanest fast food / take aways I’ve ever seen. The pizzas were fresh and well loaded with great ingredients - order a listed pizza and add your desires….. the crust is tops and the food hot!!!! Big thanks Massimo and staff at the Clamshell.

Surely the best Chippy in Edinburgh. The Chicken in Batter and I have to admit it was truly amazing to consume. The Batter was crispy and dry which some chippies that I have tried have never been able to achieve. You will need to wait for it to be cooked but that is worthwhile. Plus you know that the food is cooked fresh and it hasn't been kept warm for god knows how long like some chip shops tend to do. The chips were hot, dry and crispy. Having fish and chips on the High Street should be a top tourist thing to do in Edinburgh. Just make sure that if you do that the chips are from the Clamshell.

To be honest, I have only tried fried mars from them.. and it was delicious, their treatment is nice, the place is small, humble and narrow.. it sells fish and chips as well.

Maybe it’s because I was starving and very late but I love this place. I’ve never had doner meat in a roll before and while it doesn’t sound great. This really hit the spot. Apparently it’s one of the few places in the area that opens late. If I’m in Edinburgh, it’s late and I’m hungry I’ll definitely go back.

Fantastic Food. Had the hamburger supper, which was perfect. Unfortunately some customers were rude to the staff. When there was certainly no need to be. Definitely the best Chippy in the High Street.

Where I live a salad for a donner kebab consists of lettuce, cabbage onions, tomatoes and coleslaw all for the princely sum of £7.00. You are charging £9.00 for a small donner kebab & salad all because you're in a tourist hotspot

Should have eaten the styrofoam packaging instead. Wouldn't have been as cold, dry and tasteless as the fish. Absolutely horrendous. Avoid if you can.

We grabbed fish and chips for lunch which was good. The staff there were friendly and accommodating. Do try their fried mars bar because it's really good if you are a chocolate lover. Perfect lunch for a cold day after walking around town, they have seats outside, limited seats but a great stop I would say.

Small takeaway on The Royal Mile with a huge menu. Food was freshly cooked to order. Very friendly service. We had Fish & Chips - Top Class!

My review today is polish lady English and understanding is terrible I asked for two portions of chips got 1 asked for unbattered sausages to be put in seperate trays ended up with sausage rapped in brown paper 6 times I said to portion of chips in curry sauce and the assistant ignored me if there was a rating for none you would of got NOTHING I paid £12.50 for one tray of chips and two sausages my opinion is try opening your ears

Got 1/2 fried pizza with chips and a fried mars bar with ice cream. Shared this with two other friends and made for a good in-between-meals snack. Definitely not healthy but delicious! Workers are friendly.

It was my first time visiting Edinburgh and I’d been told about DEEP FAT FRIED Mars bars and DEEP FAT FRIED pizza slices. I’d had a google to find some places for reasonable prices because I wasn’t expecting to like either and I found this place….. AMAZING! -There’s only seating for about 3/4 people inside so it’s definitely a takeaway but they have a little area just outside to sit and first me and my friend shared a deep fat fried Mars bar with ice cream. The batter wasn’t too thick and it wasn’t dripping in fat like I expected. Instead, the batter was crispy and with the ice cream the Mars bar went chewy. It was sooo good and the prices were reasonable so we came back a few hours later to try the deep fat fried pizza. Again, this was AMAZING. One of the young guys working there recognised us from before and was super friendly.

Absolutely horrible. I waited to get my order 15 minutes just having hot dog. More over hotdog roll was burned terribly. I can’t stand it cost £7. Bottle of mineral water is £2.50. It was just nighttime. I have to tell people they are horrendous or racist. I don’t recommend them strongly

Beste Lage, freundliches Personal, ordentlich und sauberer Ort, Fish&Chips schaffen geschmacklich leider definitiv nicht mehr als drei Sterne. Die Pommes sind schlapprig und der Fisch geschmackarm.

This place is situated in a perfect location in the old Town. We wanted to try the fried Mars bar, which was really tasty but overpriced around £5+ each for a small Mars bar. We then ordered the fish and chips. Honestly, I was in to minds when I sore it sitting there in the hot cabinet but I ordered it anyway. I should have gone with my instinct and walked away.

Absolute fantastic best chippy in Scotland I had a steak pie supper my partner had chips cheese n curry my son had chips and we enjoyed it prices are spot on too this is a wee hidden gem just down from the castle on royal mile staff are polite too and service is fast even during the tattoo when they where packed well done all involved fresh and filling

£50 for 3 meals, rip off. Guy was also very inappropriate and made me and my mother feel uncomfortable!! So rude. Won’t be back. Would not recommend. Food was also not anything special, bang average

Hatten mal frittierten Snickers getestet. Riegel mit nur sehr wenig Teig gebacken, dazu billigstes „Vanilleeis“. Das ganze 5,95£. Völlig überteuert und nicht wirklich lecker. Vielleicht Geschmacksache. Fish& Chips; Fish ok aber die Chips ganz labberig und mies. Außerdem sehr salzig (versalzen). Insgesamt nicht zu empfehlen

If you are looking for the perfect deep-fried Mars bar on the Royal Mile then look no further. Here you can see the Mars bar being opened from the packet and then deep-fried in front of your eyes. It simply wouldn't be the same from a restaurant. And on top of that you get two scoops of complementary ice cream. Delightful.

The kebab and the potato with cheese and beans are amazing! We enjoyed our visit there very much. Thanks for this experience ❤️

Was really disappointing. Fish was tasteless, chips were ok. We had to pay extra for the tartar sauce which was 70p per sauce. Curry sauce was good. Service wasn't that friendly. Wouldn't recommend
