We were driving through East Grinstead and needed a dog friendly place to eat. CJ's came up and we decided to give it a ago. The staff, especially the woman behind the bar was so kind and accommodating. We had two dog and a push chair with a 10 month old. She suggested the perfect table with lots of space and they gave us a booster seat which attaches to the stool, as well as loads of dog treats for our pooches. We ordered the Club Sandwich and BLT's and were all really happy with our food and drinks. Would definitely go again.

Such a nice experience since this establishment has changed hands to The Goat Kitchen. It has been a while since I have been to CJ's as I felt it (and its staff sadly) was going downhill, but it now has a new lease of life. We arrived with our dog for lunch (we hadn't booked but it was quiet) and were immediately asked if our dog would like water and some treats. Such a nice touch. Menu is similar to the CJ's menu of old but slimmed down and less fussy. Staff were amazing, even the owner came out to chat to us. I would highly recommend giving this place another try if, like me, you avoided CJ's in recent years.

Loved this place! We came for breakfast and it was so good (fetalicious and the turkish eggs!) That we had to come back for dinner and again for cocktails. A sunny terrace for mornings and coffee and a cool vibe area downstairs for food and bar. Staff were so welcoming and really added to our visit

18th July was a moving day for me and I had no food in , do decided to go into town to get a sandwich to take away. I've not eaten at CJs since it became the Goat Kitchen but remember I always had had good food there. There was a new menu so I sat down to have a look and fancied a Club sandwich. Which I ordered. It took an inordinate amount of time to prepare, especially considering the place was not at all busy, just a few people. I took the sandwich home and when I opened the box I was immediately disappointed. There was this warm, soggy excuse for a "Club" sandwich, tasteless chicken, fatty bacon and bore no resemblance to a club sandwich. One bite and went in the bin. £9.50!.?... you have got to.be kidding. It wasn't worth 95p. I will not be returning

Excellent food and service you can order via the app or the bar. I had the breakfast which is very good quality, the only issue after several visits are that the mushroom although very tasty are always cold on receipt. I would suggest you plate them last this may solve the problem

Disappointed as we used to like it when the previous owners owned it. Today the food was OK but not great. Please listen to a customer request. The music used to be 70s rock, now very odd singing. The very best thing was when one of the staff started playing the piano. More live playing please. The place needs cleaning ..... seriously it's really dusty (to say the least). The staff seem very nice though so maybe it will pick up again.

Left waiting at the door and had to stop a staff member to ask if we had to find a table. Went to the bar to order and was referred to as "that guy". Stood for ages and asked for a slight variation to a meal and was told it was not possible. At that point, we left.

Refreshing to see especially on a Sunday morning. The food was excellent and really good quality and the hot chocolate I had was better than Costas. I would definitely visit again next time I am in East Grinstead.

I have visited CJs many times before and found the staff very helpful and friendly, I was sadly disappointed this time. Having managed to get my mother(who is in a wheelchair) seated, there was no help forthcoming from the staff, I stood at the bar for 10mins whilst the young lady behind the bar played with her hair, rearranged milk jugs in the fridge and found 2 order pads. She didn’t bother to acknowledge my presence nor did she ask me to wait because she was busy, she knew I was there because she had pushed past me to get behind the bar. Eventually a male colleague went behind the bar and said hello and said they would be with me in a couple of minutes, he was very pleasant When the young lady finally deigned to serve me there was no apology for the wait. The young ladies who actually brought the food to the table were very pleasant and helpful. The food was a little on the cold side however I didn’t complain so I really shouldn’t moan about it. Sadly the rudeness of the young lady behind the bar marred the visit. I will go back as the staff are usually friendly and helpful.

I spent an unplanned weekend in East Grinstead due to my son being in the hospital. On the Sunday I managed to pop out for a while and had a walk round the town. I was looking for somewhere to eat and found CJ’s. Looked warm and welcoming and had a pianist playing who was great. Ordered a mixed roast of beef and chicken. A huge plate of food arrived which was delicious. Just what I needed. Staff were welcoming and attentive. If I’m ever in East Grinstead again I will return. Thankyou

However our last 3 visits have been disappointing. On our last visit we ordered from the evening tapas menu, apart from the chorizo in red wine the rest did not taste fresh- tasted like Iceland frozen specials. Many establishments in the town are offering good tapas now. We have always loved the staff here and to a certain extent they keep us coming back- but lately several good long serving staff members have left- while this happens in hospitality we can't help but notice that staff are always pushed to the limits here- they seem understaffed 80% of the time and I have heard the owner talk terribly to some of them. It's awkward and this doesn't add to the customer experience I'm afraid. We'll visit in a few months to see if CJ's has improved. I hope so!

Obviously the management don't care.No response whilst I was there. Too much of this"got your money, I don't care". I just hope people read this and judge you. I love it in CJs but I have to say they seem to have got a bit too comfortable and lazy, their lunch menu has been the same for years and years and is really boring. The jacket potatoes or sandwich fillings are about as bland as can be, the pizzas are ok buy other than that there is nothing inspiring unless you want to spend £12+ which if you’re popping in for lunch & a coffee is a bit much. They’ve done the quesadillas with chicken cheese & sweet chilli sauce now for well over a decade ... surely this could be jazzed up a bit & bought into the food trends if nowadays and offer a selection of fillings??? I know I’m not the only one saying that they avoid it for lunch these days ... come on guys, time for a complete revamp.

On a recent visit for lunch with my friend, we were appalled at the attitude and service of some of the staff. I am a vegan, so asked what was available. The waitress didn’t know what a vegan ate, and was clueless as to what I could have. She then advised something and some potato croquets. When they arrived I questioned there ingredients, as they were out of a packet. We then discovered that they were not okay for me. I asked for a refund. Much later she returned, put the money on the table and said “ you could have said sooner, I’ve had to throw them away” she did not apologise, and was clearly cross. We asked to speak to the manager, but they wouldn’t come out. The chef came out, but while we were waiting we could hear the waitress talking to the chef and manager, about how we were trying it on. The chef did apologise, but in all honesty it was not good enough. In the first instance the waitress should have asked the chef what he could offer. And we should know that the staff members were going to be spoken to. Just to add to this the group on the table next to us also had problems and complaints.

We nearly walked out as soon as we arrived due to the way we were spoken to, After arriving and saying we had a booking, the young man at the counter asked brusquely, 'What do you want?'. I was taken aback as I had never been asked this upon entering a restaurant before. I said that we were here for lunch. He then asked, 'Which table have you booked??' Again, I was surprised at this question. How were we supposed to know which table we were at? He then checked with a colleague and showed us to our table saying someone would be over in five minutes to serve us. After sitting there for 15 minutes, we noticed that the people being seated next to us by a waitress were handed menus. So I asked her if we could have menus. She seemed surprised that we didn't have them already and quickly brought them over. We decided what to have and had to call the waitress over to take our order. We had been waiting for some time for our food to arrive, noticing that people who had arrived after us had been served their food, eaten it and had left. Surprised that it would take so long to prepare a soup and a sandwich, after 45 minutes I asked where our food was, to be told we would be served next. Another 10 minutes and the food finally arrived, about an hour and a half after being seated. The food was good and generous portions , but was it worth waiting such a long time for?Sadly not. If this restaurant could improve its customer service, this would have been a much better experience for us. It was our first time here and probably our last.

Decided to take my daughter and rest of my family to CJs for her 19th birthday after visiting once previously and liking the general atmosphere. Everything started ok until the food was brought to the table. I looked at my sons fish and chips and immediately told the young chef (or assistant) that the piece of fish was not acceptable as it was the size of a king prawn! He apologised and came back and said they would prepare another piece as "it's just how they come out of the packet" - he brought the plate back to the table and to my amazement there was an even smaller piece which had been broken into two and was clearly a piece that they couldn't serve to anyone else ! Anyway, a couple of our other meals were very disappointing (Caesar salad was bland and tasteless, and the other salads were more like a side dish than a full salad). Not wishing to ruin my daughters birthday we joked about it and carried on with our evening. When the manager (dark haired lady) came over to ask if everything was ok, I told her the issues with the fish. Up until now I thought well it's just one of those things, it happens. I told her I wasn't happy with the fish, and the thing that really led me to write this review, was her complete negative attitude to my complaint. She told me that they had redressed the issue but bringing another piece of fish. I said it was smaller than the first, but she clearly didn't want to take this off the bill, and in the end said she would discount it a bit. I said no, either you charge me in full, or not at all, I told her she knew my opinion and if she wanted to charge me for it then do, as I wasn't going to sit at a table arguing over a few pounds. Reluctantly she removed the item from the bill. It's sad that a manager can come to ask you if everything is ok with the meal , and then make you feel so bad when it's not. This manager alone ruined my daughters evening by her horrible, nasty attitude. The rest of the food at the very best was mediocre, but I find even that rating difficult to warrant. Unfortunately due to this experience, CJs have lost what may we'll have turned in to regular weekly customers, and I will not return to this bar purely because of the managers attitude. Try the food in the pub opposite, the Dorset arms, much better. I would not recommend CJs until the manager is replaced with someone who cares and who understands these issues and how to deal with them properly. Finally I would like to add that there was another lady waitress with blond hair who was really helpful, and polite. If only she was the manager, I'm sure this would have been sorted in a much easier and amicable way. Overall, a very poor experience on a special occasion.

Shame we didn't stay longer as the wine list looked very interesting and worth a try.The staff were all very friendly and made us feal very comfortable.Thank you.We will be sure to visit again at sometime.

Been a couple of times. Not great food. Burnt wedges. Prawns flavourless. It's ok but wouldn't go there out of choice. Been lunch and dinner.

This is a really lovely wine bar, very relaxed, it has a roof terrace and serves delicious tapas. Perhaps a little bohemian but a great atmosphere.

It has always been an interesting place to stop for a coffee, wine or food in unusual surroundings. Stairs up and one finds a roof terrace overlooking St Swithuns Church. Sit amongst grape vines and olive trees.Coffee, food and drinks at reasonable prices. I like it because it is very different to anything else in East Grinstead. Relaxing is easy - no pressure

This is a cafe restaurant that is in the centre of town with lots of competition. The atmosphere is good and the food is good. I was very impressed at how enthusiastic the bar staff were! Not expensive and filling food

Love this little wine bar. Perfect place to meet with friends and enjoy a glass of good wine and tapas. The outside roof terrace, although small, overlooks the Church and is like a little escape in the middle of town. Shush, don't tell anyone, or I might not get a table...

This is a great place to meet friends as is spacious and well laid out. If in a large group it is easy to put a couple of tables together. It is a friendly coffee shop/cafe in the day and more of a wine bar with food in the evening. There is a great roof terrace to enjoy the sunshine.

We stumbled upon CJs by chance and stopped for a drink. Having sat for a while we felt so relaxed and seeing all the delicous food being served we decided to stay for lunch. We were not disappointed. The staff were friendly and the music was great. I would recommend CJs and if I am in the area again I would happily return.

It may only be for a limited time - but 5 tapas (good size for tapas) and a bottle of house wine for £35 - and guess what it was really busy! Decor is almost Moroccan and the chairs are not that comfy - but a bustling place for a drink and snack - menu is limited but everything was of great quality and really tasty.

We visited CJs Cafe Bar for breakfast after doing some shopping. We all had the full English Breakfast though we needed to swap some of the ingredients for individual tastes. CJs were happy to do this and it certainly did not disappoint. The food was lovely, and when the great service is added, it made it a great relaxing experience. They were a little bit stingy with the butter for the toast but gave us more when we asked. Overall, looking forward to going back!

Love CJs for being a great place to catch up with friends but certainly not the best place to grab a bite to eat, portion sizes appear to have shrunk but yet you are still charged the same. Such a shame as its letting the place down. Wont be rushing to eat in there again

Until recently I would have recommended this bar to friends for lunch or snacks, but the last three visits in two weeks have all been really disappointing. Afternoon tea was a thin slice of very sweet coffee and walnut cake, the National Trust cake is vastly superior! Lunch the other day was a sparsly filled tuna wrap with no tortilla chips or coleslaw, both of which used to be provided, making for a rather mean meal. Then today the mezze platter, which had three tiny pots of dips, a little cheese a few olives and a few tiny bits of bread for £12 - not good value, and the wine was £7 a glass. With the amount of competition in this town offering much better value for money I won't be going back there to eat again in a hurry. As a bar this place is thriving and has a good atmosphere, serving well kept beers and ciders. People like to get value for money and the owners would do well to bear this in mind.

Visited by chance during hospital visit and what a surprise. Other more well known places nearby can't touch this place. We received a warm friendly welcome. Great service at reasonable prices, with nice not too loud background music. A must try.

Good place to meet up and have coffee in the heart of East Grinstead. I have had breakfast here, which was fine. Tried it in the evening and enjoyed the Meze Platter with some wine. Service is friendly and efficient. All in all CJs has a little to offer. I understand it has nice and inexpensive guest rooms. Also they hold music evenings. Will be going again and probably making it my local coffee shop when in East Grinstead

I recently had a joint birthday party at twenty nine with my partner, and it was a fantastic experience. Harriet, Steve, and the entire team were incredibly accommodating. They even arranged for a keg of Camden Hells, and the food they provided was delicious and of high quality. Throughout the planning process, Harriet kept in touch to ensure we had everything we needed, and during the event, the team went above and beyond by checking in, sorting the food and cutting our cake for the guests. What's more, since the venue also owns Bridge bar, we were able to continue the celebration there after the party. They opened up especially for us on Monday evening so we could collect our belongings we left behind. As someone who works in the events industry, I can confidently say that twenty nine is one of the best venues in the area for a small to medium-sized party. Thank you, Harriet and the team, for all your help!

I've been dining at la farola for over 20 years and I've yet to encounter another establishment that has the friendliness and attententiveness of the staff here. p.s. the food is exceptional. make sure you try the paella (you will have to order 24 hours in advance)

Our 3rd visit and another great meal. Service was faultless, all hot dishes served piping hot. The house red was more than acceptable as was the sangria. If you’re looking for authentic tapas and better than anything we’ve had in Spain, this is the place to go.
