Twenty Nine in Mid Sussex

I recently had a joint birthday party at twenty nine with my partner, and it was a fantastic experience. Harriet, Steve, and the entire team were incredibly accommodating. They even arranged for a keg of Camden Hells, and the food they provided was delicious and of high quality. Throughout the planning process, Harriet kept in touch to ensure we had everything we needed, and during the event, the team went above and beyond by checking in, sorting the food and cutting our cake for the guests. What's more, since the venue also owns Bridge bar, we were able to continue the celebration there after the party. They opened up especially for us on Monday evening so we could collect our belongings we left behind. As someone who works in the events industry, I can confidently say that twenty nine is one of the best venues in the area for a small to medium-sized party. Thank you, Harriet and the team, for all your help!

I had my 30th birthday party here and I cannot recommend enough! Venue is clean, elegant and perfect size for a do. Staff were 10/10!! I had a wonderful evening. Thank you for the seamless service.

A friend hired this out for her 40th so I can't review the food as there wasn't any. Lovely quickly little place, staff were really friendly and knowledgeable about their cocktails. I ordered 2 shots of tequila rosé and they only had enough for 1 and a half which is a crime lol! That's the only fault I could find! Definitely stock up when you have a party booked!

Really impressed with the breakfast. Had a full English; sausages were real and meaty and real baked beans (hooray), everything was cooked nicely, big portion. Coffee was good as was the service. Tried a few other places in East Grinstead and the breakfast here is definitely one of the best!

Went for bottomless brunch on Saturday rude staff and chef cant even cook a steak would avoid this place and cocktails are awful!

We popped into East Grinstead for lunch yesterday, unsure of where to go, we have visited most places in town and were usually disappointed. We stopped at 29 and decided to give it a go - we were not disappointed at all. The young staff were friendly and attentive. The food was fab - my husband had the full breakfast and I had the fish finger sandwich. Portion sizes were huge - i ordered extra chips, but couldn’t finish them. Decor great, ambience fab - music low enoughthat you could hear yourself think. Will definetely be back - for me, this is the best place in town for lunch.

I came here with some friends for a drink before we headed off for dinner on a Saturday night, and was shocked at how poor the service was. There were only 2 people behind the bar desperately trying their hardest to make cocktails for I would say around 30 people. We only received 2 of our 4 drinks (after waiting a while) and later found out they had run out of vodka entirely so had to leave the bar to buy some more! The staff were only trying their best, so I feel this is something that the management of the bar need to listen to. Do not have 2 people working on a busy Saturday night, you need at least 4 people plus. And also, make sure you have enough stock before you open.

Our 1st visit but will certainly be visiting again.

Visited here for brunch.Very friendly member of staff.Only two in the restaurant at the time.Food was okay but nothing special.Only given enough hot water for one small cup of tea each.Food also abit expensive for what you get.

I saw their breakfast being advertised on Facebook and was excited to try it as they use meat from a local butcher. The breakfast was large and included 2x toast and a hot drink. I enjoyed every bite- every element was cooked to perfection and those award winning sausages were heavenly.

Very disappointing. Poor service and no atmosphere. Maybe we went on a dad day, when the kitchen was closed but we won't be rushing back. There are so many better places in Grinnie. Sorry.

Often have lunch here when we are in town. Good and speedy service, not so much atmosphere but don't expect there to be mid day.

Had breakfast on a date it was nice but a little on the expensive side. Service is always prompt and friendly.

It's the perfect place to watch the town go by while enjoying something to eat and drink. I had a breakfast which I enjoyed a lot, the sausages were amazing and all ingredients were good quality and cooked well. Great vibe, friendly staff and lovely food.

Worth to visit! Another place with delicious Avo&Eggs! I think to contribute only to places when that is a part of the morning breakfast.

The fishfinger sandwiches aren't great. Neither is the coffee.

If I was to rate the Staff here alone, I would give 5 stars without a doubt. The young Staff are friendly, attentive and professional. However, the food is expensive for what you get. Do not order their sharing platters. For an extortionate £21 you get a few slices of cured meat, a few pickles and not much more. It was shocking. The drinks are expensive but I wouldn't mind paying if they were made well. Actually their gins are lovely so if order from that menu you can't go wrong but their cocktails are shocking. Whoever makes their cocktails need to be taught properly. Or be fired. I won't go back again. A real shame as its a lovely looking bar and, as mentioned, the staff are absolutely lovely.

Beautiful coffee-lovely service. A proper strong cup of Italian coffee! The way it should be! I’ll be back :-)

Stopped for breakfast. Excellent well presented tasty food, plentiful and good value. The staff were delightful and very accommodating to our every need. Thoroughly recommend this treasure of a find!

Very reasonable prices. Nice menu, friendly service. Toilets were spotless. Only had coffee and hot chocolate but will return for food.

Surprised by the mixed reviews, I can only say my experience was great. Very friendly staff, made an effort recommend a nice drink I wouldn't normally have gone for which turned out to be lovely. We ordered the salmon and cream cheese wrap and caesar salad wrap, both perfect. Would definitely recommend.

We came here today for lunch. Parents had coffee. I had a pint. We all had the full English breakfast. Lovely food all round. The sausages were proper sausages - really meaty. The place was warm and welcoming and the staff were friendly and helpful. I'd definitely come back here.

The staff are lovely and friendly however service was very very slow we went for bottomless brunch and the service was not good and the food was freezing, there wasn't even alot of people in the restaurant. I wouldn't recommend.

Such a lovely high end looking place but i would say NO for a coffee sorry. These 2 meant to be a latte and cappucino.

Disappointing. Lovely decor but called for breakfast and it was disappointing. A smear of avocado on toast with overcooked eggs for nearly £7!

Last week was 5 star but this week was just uncomfortable and average. Last week staff wearing masks, this week none wearing them at all. Identical breakfast ordered, this week did not taste as good, especially the sausages, not offered any sauces and just ok for the money. Service was polite but all in all an uncomfortable experience given everyone else taking more precautions why have they gone backwards, left as soon as I could.

Stopped in and had a top Quality full english breakfast and coffee mid morning. All well cooked, tasty, neatly presented and pretty good value nowadays. Friendly staff who saw to me quickly. Definitely recommend a visit and will be back to try other things on the menu!

Extremely good experience. All the products were fresh. The coffee and walnut cupcake was divine, and the service fantastic, very polite and friendly at the same time.

We had high hopes for this restaurant as it is a new addition to the town. The food was prepared and presented to a poor standard, and expensive too; over £45 per head. We had a selection of small plates, and in my opinion the dishes were not prepared by a chef but by someone who had very little experience of working in a kitchen. I have had better from M&S 3 for £7 picnic range. You need to up your game if I'm going to return. Good luck with your venture.

Lovely new restaurant in the heart of East Grinstead. My friend and I nipped in for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. There are loads of places to eat in this town so for this place to stay open it needs to stand out. Amazing service, great food (not an enormous choice of dishes, which is a plus for people who can't decide) and buzzing atmosphere. Will come again

Popped in for an impromptu lunch with the kids. Thoroughly enjoyed it. We had sandwiches/wraps/paninis from the lunch menu and they were amazing. The breads were very fresh and the fillings were tasty. Really good value for money. The atmosphere was very relaxing. The staff were really welcoming and friendly. We will definitely be visiting again and we highly recommend it. ... I caught a glimpse of the cakes on the bar- we'll try those next time!!

Decor is superb and there was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant. The food was delicious; I had eggs Benedict and the hollandaise sauce was just divine! Service was spot on and we were always greeted politely and with a huge smile. Would definitely recommend and will be back soon. Thank you.

Lovely food and awesome selection of gin cocktails. Highly rec pork sliders and classic English breakfast. With glass of merlot and pint of Guinness. Just top!

Just popped in on a sunny afternoon for coffee and cake. Was given a warm welcome and a lovely table beside the open frontage. I liked the decor and the chairs were very comfy. The iced coffee and cake were delicious. I checked out the menus- food, gin and cocktails 😋 and they all appealed to me, so I will be returning for an evening soon.

I would have given the place 4 stars had it been on the food alone. The tapas selection was good and all cooked well! Although felt more on the expensive side (£8 average i think per plate) with a lot of salad... bit disappointing. However as noted by other reviews online the customer service was poor. There were multiple members on shift, and the place was not too busy, but we were made to feel unwelcome on arrival with no real greeting by the staff (a simple someone will be with you soon, would do, we understand that the host may be seating others, but acknowledging people instead of just staring is uncomfortable and not a great first impression). Our drink order was taken quickly which was great! But our food order felt late, and almost awkward to ask for food, as if that was not part of coming to the restaurant. We noticed other tables trying to flag down the staff, whilst they were all standing around the bar area chatting, in order to have service, which at first felt rude to do this, but we quickly saw why. Overall we were disappointed with the visit and are unlikely to come again, which is a real shame as I could definitely see this being a place being a great spot to come to on a fri/sat night.

Valuable addition to EG. Good quality food, well presented

I was very excited to try this new restaurant in East Grinstrad. It's been open for nearly a month. We visited on the evening of the 18 June. The food served here is tapas (which is my favourite type of food). We had amazing cocktails whilst we waited for our food. The French Martini was good and well made. There were 6 of us and had ordered lots of small plate. I ordered the monkfish without the ham, it initially arrived with the ham but this was quickly remedied. It was melt in the month very tender. Three of us shared the halloumi sticks which we all loved probably the best halloumi I've had. The prawns are also worth a mention. Well done to the chefs! I would've given 4 stars but the service let them down. There were 2 girls behind the bar and 3 girls serving. None of them were customer aware (I mentioned this to one of the chefs and they agreed) and spent most of their night in a huddle chatting with their backs to the majority of the restaurant. We had to wave and beckon them over several times. I don't think I've ever had to do that before and didn't enjoy doing it as it comes across as demanding. We would definitely have spent more on drinks if the service had been better. A service charge was added to the bill which I hope also go to the chefs as the service was not great. In summary would definitely go back as the food was very good.
