Civerinos Portobello in Edinburgh, City of

We went to Civerino's Portobello Beach location in mid-march after seeing posts on TikTok about how good the pizza there was. I got a margarita pizza, and my boyfriend got the Italian sausage. We were both really happy with the food; my only complaint would be it's not as 'saucy' as I would have hoped. We sat outside at the picnic tables which was okay until the winds picked up and I nearly lost my pizza to the sea. Would definitely recommend a visit. Next time, we will try the truffle fries.

We had disappointing quality of pizza last time we came a few months ago but decided to give it another try. A couple of weeks ago we were happy to wait 20 minutes and ordered a pizza. It took 35 minutes, nearly twice the wait we were told we'd have. And the pizza hadn't been in the oven long enough so was lukewarm and the cheese not melted properly. We took it back and they put it back in the oven, the woman did apologise and brought it back five minutes later. Unfortunately it was still gross. The chicken was discoloured a sort of grey colour...? for some reason? (Really regret not getting a photo), the pepperoni was the weirdest texture and the cheese seemed like cheap pre-grated mozzarella. Utterly bizarre and unfortunately the worst pizza we've ever had. My husband went up to say to someone that we were disappointed, and were told with no apology that they were shortstaffed. Having worked for years in hospitality, both in restaurant and takeaways, I was shocked and confused at the customer service. Could just about excuse poor food as a one-off off-day. But the attitude of the team was just awful. Unfortuantely won't ever return.

I absolutely adore this spot! One of my favourite pizza places in the Edinburgh. The serving size for the slice is so generous for the price and the truffle mayo is fab. Perfect spot right by the beach so the view while eating is so lovely. Very fast service and they even have wee bonfires you can get to have a little fire on the beach with, such a cute idea.

I had heard a little bird singing about this place, but had no idea how crazy the hype actually was. Luckily I was almost at the front of the queue – otherwise I would have been standing there for over 45 minutes. But was it worth the wait? The pizza was undoubtedly delicious – crispy crust, top quality ingredients and lots of flavour. However, it could have used an extra layer of cheese. The price? £18 for a pizza – a bit pricey. So with the long wait and the price in mind, we’re not quite reaching 5 stars, but it’s close. Pro tip: Go for slices instead of a whole pizza – more variety, better value and you get to taste a bit of everything!

Inconsistent quality here unfortunately. First time absolutely loved it and couldn't wait to return. Next time really disappointed with the poor quality so now won't rush back.

Got a couple of slices- margarita and pepperoni and the mac and cheese balls 🤤 so good! I did take them to my car and eat them but that's down to my fear of birds! 😂 Plenty of space, chairs ect to sit out at the beach.

The truffle and parmesan fries were extremely salty. I only had a few and the birds got the rest! Staff were friendly.

A long wait but excellent food. Worth the wait. I sat in their covered area looking over the beach really lovely.

Plenty machines to use, but terrible comebacks of prizes, just awful for kids, just putting your money in for nothing

1-Star Review I had a terrible experience today. I waited over an hour for my pizza, and during that time, the staff showed no interest in providing updates or addressing customers. Instead, they were too busy arguing with each other, completely ignoring everyone else. When I finally asked for a refund, it was processed without so much as an apology. The lack of professionalism and customer care was shocking. I won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. The service was appalling, and the staff’s attitude made the experience even worse.

Tried to get pizza this afternoon, myself and my Girlfriend waited for 40minutes, the staff were exceptionally rude both towards customers and other staff. Staff were shouting at each other which is completely unacceptable. After 50 minutes of no food we asked for a refund, the staff couldn’t have cared less. 0/10 Would not recommend.

Pizzas are great but the waiting staff could be nicer, I was told 10/15min wait and when I went to kindly ask if I had maybe missed my order (20min later) I was stared at without a smile and the lady simply answered “no you did not”, without providing an update on the timescale, waited another 10min for 1 pizza. Customers are allowed to ask for an update especially when it’s taking longer than what was advised.

Pizza was great but the real highlight was the garlic aioli fries 🤤🤤🤤

The quality of the pizza is so variable it must depend on the chef or the time of day. Sometimes I’ve had great pizza, sometimes a clearly reheated slice devoid of any flavour or toppings. What’s consistent is the appalling customer service - never a single smile or acknowledgment that your money is paying for bad pizza and keeps them in business. You’re treated like an inconvenience. In fact, when I was with a group of friends and we decided to go for pizza there, they were pissed off that we didn’t give them prior warning of our arrival. So don’t go for an ad hoc slice of pizza if you’re in a group. They seem to be surviving off being on a busy prom, not for the quality of the food or experience of customer service. I’ve given up being a customer, enough chances have been given. £11 for a can of coke and two slices of old reheated margherita hard as leather. Never again.

I hate leaving the feedback like this but - What's happened? Have been a big fan and regular customer for years but today we waited the best part of half an hour for a bang average, bordering on burnt, margarita pizza served in a no logo box. It literally bears no resemblance to what is normally served here? Staff seemed completely disinterested in customers and much more interested in rolling cigs and chatting amongst themselves. I'd have rather left this feedback in person however having waited that long I just wanted to take my food and go. Super disappointing compared to the standard here.

Great place. Love that the kids get a slice of pizza after school on Friday. They can also trade a bag of rubbish for a slice which is a genial lesson.

We have been a huge fan of civerinos for years visiting Edinburgh mainly. Today we decided to try portobello and I am so disappointed with the service and quality of the food. When ordering told they didn’t sell full pizzas, when leaving saw 2 separate people at the hatch leaving with full pizzas. Then when ordering a slice (really good portion) most things were not available, my husband then had to go for his 4th choice. I ordered a deep dish to be told I was getting the last one as they weren’t making any more at 4.30pm. Order comes through for collect for my husband to be told actually there wasn’t any left despite explicitly saying I was getting the last one (pepperoni) offered a cheese one which took a further 10 mins (not offered refund difference - mainly out of principle this bothers me). Both pizzas were cold and so were the macaroni bites which were very cold. Person serving gave off the vibe eveything was a hassle and I thought it was closing that’s why the service and food were below normal standard for Civerinos.

We stopped because we saw many people eating pizza in front of the beach and some of the pizzas looked great. We ordered a Margarita pizza and had to wait for a long time. the girl working there was snappy any time we asked her about our order. overall not a great experience. You know if a pizza place is great if the most basic margarita is done well.

Absolutely brilliant restaurant. Food amazing. Too much on the plate but happy to provide foil takeaway bowls. Fantastic.

The food is good but very Disappointing costumer service! And false advertising. You should remove the advert about deck chairs when you can’t provide them for big orders with fireboxes. And maybe learn how to talk to customers when you work in a customer facing role. A simple thank you is literally the bare minimum!!!

No deck chairs, and no fire kits which are advertised on the menus on site and on the website and for some reason wouldn’t do full pizzas? So we had to place an order for multiple slices which we couldn’t immediately do as it had to be queried with a manager as it was a large order. Weird interactions all round

Told portobello was great for pizza slices on promenade sadly not I got mushroom needed fbi to find them quarter of slice no topping at all won’t be back

The best pizza i have had in long time. The queues outside are absolutely justified. So fresh and tasty. The prices were great. I had Aubergine veggie pizza and it tasted very fresh. Loved it. My friends are meat lovers but they enjoyed the taste. So, I would definitely try again.

Very overrated. Came here expecting big things after seeing good reviews on social media. There were 3 of us. Had a slice of pizza each along with Mac and cheese bites and the giant mozzarella stick. Mac and cheese bites were cold in the middle we couldn’t eat them. Pizza was okay but nothing to shout about. Mozzarella stick was really good though. Glad to have tried it but unfortunately won’t be back

The first time I tried it, it was a sunny day so the place was busy but the food came out quickly we ordered a margarita with garlic mayo wow 😎 proper lush 😄

My mushroom pizza was very good. The jalapeño pizza was equally pleasant. Unfortunately there was a substantial wait for one of our party. Interestingly, it is cheaper to buy 4 individual quarters of a 20" pizza than it is to buy a whole 20" pizza. I wouldn't recommend the dough balls. I would, however, definitely recommend people visit.

Awesome the pizza was out of this world,staff where amazing especially with out wee boy,they gave him a toy fan to keep and he loves it,he plays with this all the time.

Best chips on the prom! Great pizza with more toppings and variety than you would think. We always stop with the kids, and we have made great memories at their little row of tables, eating chips by the seaside!

If you want to get food poisoning then that’s the best place to go. I was stupid enough to go there again after first poisoning then I got another one.

Best base in the country. Just takes too long to deliver and the base doesn't appear to maintain its heat, but still well worth it.

Delicious pizza (20 inch!) more than enough for 3 or 4 adults. Cooked fresh to order and piping hot. Generous portions of seasoned fries, but a little too much dried herbs on them for our liking. Perfect to eat on the beach on a sunny evening. 😋

Very busy little pizza shop, but worth the wait. We qued for about 30 mins and waited approx 30 mins for pizza and chips. Great wee place.

Be warned that there's often a long queue! Aside from that, the food is delicious. I had the vegan aubergine pizza with fries and it was one of the best vegan pizza's I've had. Great price considering the location too.

Lovely place to grab something to eat, good portions. Right by the sea side. On good sunny days it gets very busy so there is some wait.

Rude chef interrupted the server taking my order to moan at her. Staff looked miserable that there was people wanting to order near to closing and visually sighing when people joined the queue

Tasty Pizza right on the Promenade, slices are huge and great value - a slice here is as big as a small pizza, enough for a meal! The menu changes regularly, so while your old favourites may disappear, new flavours are always here.

Went to get a few pizzas for my family at 7.15pm got told that it was too late in the day to make full pizzas (even though they are open till 9pm). The pizza is good but when thinking about it it would have cost over £60 for those pizza, which I don't think pizza should ever cost that much.

All we wanted on the portobello board walk looking out onto the North Sea was some great fries, omg. These crispy fries were seasoned with rosemary and sea salt, to Perfection! They offered homemade Aioli. Dang. I am so glad there is not close to my house or I would have it every day! Amazing to eat on the Portobello boardwalk looking out onto the North Sea. Spectacular memories.

Had two big slices and chips. Served by a lovely girl called Britney. Also one of the chefs, not sure of his name maybe Jack or Zack but a tall guy helped me when I couldn't find the store! Would recommend!

Terrific pizzas on the promenade! Simply wonderful!

Quite disappointing visit today, ordered grandma slice it came out and the dough was still raw at parts, tasted like a wet sponge. The two Other slices we had were a cheese and a pepperoni and they tasted like stale reheated pizzas. It’s a shame because when they first opened it certainly wasn’t as poor as today.

Lovely pizza! The pepperoni pizza was very flavourful. The dough and crust were very nice, great texture and easy to chew. I also got macaroni balls and they were pretty bland, no real flavour to them I felt it was pretty expensive but it’s expected for a place located down at the beach, it’s popular with both tourists at locals. What I will say is that for the price you won’t be disappointed with the slice of pizza, it’s a big slice and served fresh and hot. I think it’s worth it. Located near the arcade section of the beach

Got 2 huge slices of pizza for lunch. This was more than enough for 3 people! Super tasty and great to eat at the beach.

It was £6.00 for a slice of pizza. I wasnt expecting the slice to be the size of a normal pizza. Probably one of the top 5 best pizzas I've ever had. My friend is Italian and was also very impressed.

We bought the famous very large pizza. It didn't have as much flavor as the other ones we ate, and the staff didn't like it either. But the view is amazing... I won't comment further here.

The pizza was great, a bit strong with the rosemary but if you like it then the Civerinos' pizza is definitely for you. The staff was great, very warm and kind and the pizza was huge! Very good for the price. The Mac n cheese bites were also very nice. I will come back for sure!

Lovely, and delicious pizza 🍕. It's thin and baked to perfection.£ 4.5 to £6 per slice dependant on ingredients , one slice is equivalent to half of normal size pizza so can't go wrong with it :) , Large fries are also enjoyable, it's worth stopping by and having a slice with sea view 😄

Amazing food!! Always come her with all the family. Also the £1 after school for a slice is amazing. When you turn up at 4.02 pm with 3 kids. STRAIGHT from school and are told sorry your to late... Then told to move out the way!! Customer service was shocking 😲 Normally good!!!

Lovely pizza and fries but extra £1 for a garlic sauce on the top of a fries price is a joke. Everywhere else you getting sauce included in a price.

Pizza is always good but ordering online via app was ridiculously poor. The app said the delivery would take 45 mins before paying and after payment went through this increased to 1hr45. Phoned staff - first time person hung up on me (phoned Portobello shop directly) and then phoned the number on the app and was informed it hadn't left yet without any apologies. Won't order from here again, very frustrating.

Ordered a 14" Margherita a few days ago..... Worst pizza I've ever had (and paid for @£16). A transparent layer of tomato paste with cheese topped with 3 bay leaves..... And the dough had a bitter aftertaste. Shouldn't have listened to that sponsored OpenTable review video recommending this as the best pizza place in Edinburgh. Next time, I'll stick to familiar territories.

Very nice fries coming with crystal salt and oregano. The sauces were also home-made and the pizza looked thin based with a semolina crunch. You also get a nice view of the waterfront protected from the wind. Highly recommend.

I went back after a year & very disappointed with quality and taste, got a full Detroit Pepperoni - it was burnt round the edges and too much oil on the top. I hope this a one off incident... I got the "Chicks in ur area" slice - the dough cooked to perfection - my reason for only 4 star, the chicken pieces could have been smaller & more evenly spread out & it looked like a margarita with chicken/spring onion & sriracha sauce - however the taste was good.

Bad pizza. Really badly burnt and dry with the crusts being slighty raw inside somehow. The base also tasted like cleaning fluid or chemicals. 👎🏻

Usually get pizza here always amazing, however ordered the macaroni balls and I bit into it and it was completely frozen in the middle for both me and my girlfriend…. Handed them back waited another 15 minutes then decided to just leave it and got a refund due to the wait. Service was ok it was busy but yeah won’t be getting any snacks from there again.

I absolutely love this place. It is a quick and delicious bite when you are at Portobello beach. The portions are huge and cheap for what they are. They also offer seating but you can easily take away and walk by the beach. I definitely recommend if you are feeling fast food and beach vibes!

Placed an order for delivery at 6.30pm & the app advised arrival by 7.40pm - it still hadn’t arrived by 8.30pm so we called the shop who advised it was on route. By 9.10pm it still hasn’t arrived so we called to cancel the order. No apology from the staff member. The only thing she seemed bothered about was to reiterate that when the order did arrive we were to turn it away. We ordered from here a few weeks ago and the order took 2 hours to come and when it did the food was stone cold (didn’t call in on that occasion). Appalling customer service. They couldn’t even tell me how long my £40 refund (for a pizza and 2 sides) would take to process. Won’t be ordering from here again.
