City Wine Bar & Kitchen in Liverpool

Went for a wine tasting evening but then stayed on for a meal. Wine tasting was well organised and very informative. We tried five different wines and were given information about the wine from a knowledgeable member of staff. The wines were served with two platters of meat, cheese , pickles and bread/crackers. We then decided to stay on and have a meal which delicious and at a very reasonable price. Really lovely evening. Would recommend this little gem hidden away in Old Hall Street.

The food never disapoints! Steak frites was rump, beaitifully cooked and soooo tender, the burger was also smazing. Great service and staff know their wines! Definitely worth a visit.

A wonderful little gem in Liverpool. The food was absolutely amazing and the wine menu is also great. The prices are very reasonable given the exceptional quality and the service was also great. The place has a cozy and laid back atmosphere, we had a great time and will surely be back.

Our son and daughter in law had their wedding celebration at City Wine Bar. 14th September 2024. Just to say that Jordan and his team were absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff were tremendous on the day and the food was perfect. Our family and friends all loved the venue and staff. 5 star review well deserved! As a French couple we are not shy about our food, the mussels and charcuterie board were amazing. The other side dishes were well presented and extremely tasty. Wine was good. Prices reflect the quality of the food and drink. If we are ever in this neck of the woods again we will definitely return

Had the most amazing time here wine tasting with a charcuterie board. Boards were made according to our dietary requirements. The wine tasting was suited to us more preferring white wine. But it was a great mix. And we tried all new wines. The knowledge was also great and taught us new stuff.

A little gem hidden away. We found it by accident and glad we did. The decor is beautiful, friendly and welcoming staff, an extensive wine list and really good food.

It was chance that led us to this friendly wine bar which also offers some (very good) cocktails. We were very well received there and the cocktail prices are completely reasonable (however, there is no happy hour. You might as well be warned)

EDIT….. Visited again today as Jordan the manager invited us back for a complimentary meal….and Wow the food, wine and service was spot on!!! Cannot complain at all thank you so much….we will be back! Sorry to be writing this review as I had heard good things! Although we used a confidentials voucher I don’t feel you should compromise on food quality or service as using these determines if we would visit again. Sadly we wouldn’t. The starters we ordered were Arancini and hummus(both ok but was gutted you were out of salt and pepper chicken spring rolls) my chicken flatbread again just ok and my mums shiracha chicken burger again ok none of the food blew us away! Now the biggest disappointment I have had the hand cut chips in here before - only in March 23 and I had been going onto my mum about how amazing they were- what we got served was nothing like the ones I’ve had before- I can only describe them as oven chips -full of air -which were so over cooked we left most of them as they were inedible! Would have told the waitress had she came over and asked if everything was ok! Didn’t even ask when plates were collected and could clearly see we had left them. Wanted to love this place but left feeling very disappointed….

Been going to this lovely place for years, both with large and small groups - never had a bad meal, food always gorgeous, service is great, very reasonably priced. Lovely surroundings and atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

Always have a lovely food and service here. Went on 21st feb for lunch. Good range of gluten free options too but was saddened to see they’ve taken the oriental steak salad off the menu as that was a firm fave among us! Had the Greek salad with grilled chicken instead and was a big portion. Also their halloumi fries are banging.

Booked the upstairs room for my daughters 30th, from the initial call to the night itself, everything was perfect. Jordan and the staff were absolutely fantastic, such a great team. The room was perfect for us and the food was so good, everyone passed comment on how good it was. Will definitely be returning for a meal in the near future. Thanks again.

My friends and I visited for a wine tasting and we had an incredible time. This place is fantastic in every respect - the food, service, wine and atmosphere were all exceptional. It's a beautifully unique wine bar and restaurant with amazing staff who go the extra mile to make it a wonderful experience. We cannot recommend this place enough, definitely the best in Liverpool!

I booked upstairs here for my 30th birthday, having already visited several times before. Everything about it was absolutely spot on. The staff were friendly and helpful, the selection of drinks particularly the wines (naturally) and cocktails were excellent. The cocktails in particular were absolutely fantastic, very well made, and on par with some of the best cocktail bars in the city in my opinion. Highly recommend for a private function. The upstairs comfortably seats 80, but don’t be put off if you have fewer guests (we had around 50-60) it stills feels perfect. I have also attended the wine tasting here with my partner which was equally excellent and did a full review on that somewhere on here lol. Can’t wait to get back again, highly recommend.

My fiancée and I hired the private function area upstairs. It was a great space for my family and friends to meet and celebrate. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. The food canopies were excellent and all our guests commented stating how impressed they were with the venue and food on offer. There was a large selection of drink options which suited all pallets. Furthermore there were vegan food options which also catered to some of the guests. The venue is in the heart of the city and not far from Moorfields train station. Overall, if you’re looking for a great venue to host a party of any kind then the City Wine Bar is ideal !

We had our daughters wedding here and everything was superb. The food was excellent, venue superb as we're the staff, so friendly and nothing was too much for them. Really helped an important day go without a hitch. Big thank you for everything.

We attended a quiz night and all enjoyed ourselves, the staff are all very friendly and helpful, The food was very good and I will visit again in the near future. Only downside is that they do not serve draught bitter at the upstairs bar.

Excellent food and good service. Very quiet Today on a Friday lunch time but It was very hot today. Absolute gem! A fantastic wine tasting experience. Jordan shared his fantastic knowledge of the wines which enhanced the experience. Beautiful wines and a beautiful charcuterie and cheese board to accompany it.

Held our annual charity evening here with our sports club for the last 3 years and have no complaints. Gorgeous venue, reasonably priced drinks and super lovely staff that helped us have a great night and even donated a wine tasting voucher to our raffle! Thanks guys!

I hosted my fiancé's 40th birthday party at City Wine Bar, and it was an incredible experience! The staff was remarkably helpful, and the bartender did an excellent job. The venue was completed by the vibrant atmosphere created by everyone who attended. Without a doubt, I'll be choosing City Wine Bar again for future events. Cheers to a fantastic celebration venue!

Visited here after seeing the amazing reviews, and I have to say we were not disappointed! The atmosphere was welcoming, friendly, and vibrant. The decor was homely and just beautifully classy in its rustic simplicity. The staff were nothing but helpful and friendly. The food was just faultless. We tried a variety of dishes and every single one was presented beautifully with flavourful freshly cooked food! Last but not least you must try their signature cocktails!! We need more independent restaurants/wine bars like this! A perfect example of how it’s done. Although we aren’t local when we return to Liverpool we will be coming here! Me and my wife have just had our reception here after our wedding. The food was amazing. The service was brilliant. We couldn't asked for more. The owners Jordan and Nicky are a pleasure to work with and do everything needed for a fantastic wedding or party at their venue. Nothing is too much for the staff. Absolutely 10 out of 10 service.

My wife bought a voucher as a Christmas present. Jordan was our host and it was an excellent experience. A choice of 5 wines explained with detail and humour. Been here a few times over last couple of months. They serve tasty food. I had the club sandwich and chips. Freshly prepared food but you don't sit around for too long getting it. Staff friendlt and attentive.

Last night we had a surprise 60th birthday in Cory Wine Bar and it was amazing. Everyone has commented on what a lovely time they had. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. They helped keep the surprise and we’re always on hand to help in any way. Thank you for making my mums birthday so memorable!

Came to a Cheese and Wine event organised by Liverpool Cheese Shop, great night , lovely bar, steeped Old Liverpool History. Cheese event is Fab, takes you through 10 different Cheeses with a White and a Red Wine, Fresh Breads , Crackers and a Rowan Jelly......scrummy.

City Wine Bar has been one of my favourite small, intimate bars in Liverpool for years. So much so, my sisters and I often make it our Xmas night out together. Slightly hard to find, as the entrance is just off Old Hall Street and up onto a slightly raised ground floor, which makes it great for people watching outside the Old Hall Street window great for people watching. Split into two areas, there is the bar area at the front and the restaurant at the back. Reasonably priced for Liverpool, the food, drink and service is always good value.

Visited this establishment twice in the last two months and loved it. They occupy a corner plot just down the street from Saint Paul's Square and initially it looks like a small wine bar, but get up the stairs and you realise the place is quite large. It covers much more than the corner and has a seated formal dining area at one side and a traditional bar and lounge at the other with a first floor above that. It seems more like a mixture of local pub meets trendy gastro-pub but without the pretentiousness so it's difficult to feel left out whichever you prefer. We didn't eat here, only had drinks on both occasions so I can't comment on the food menu but there's an extensive array of artisan beers for you to try and the bar staff are only too eager to help you find the one you like. It's a little bit on the expensive side but it is a trendy city centre pub/restaurant so that didn't surprise me. The atmosphere on the two Friday's I visited was great and I'm sorry I couldn't have stayed longer. If love to try the food. If I can get back, I will! Very friendly, funny team!

Visited with some confidential vouchers. Had three small plates for starters followed by a steak and chips and some scouse. To drink, a cocktail, a couple of pints and a couple of glasses of wine. The bill came to £70 (£40 thanks to the vouchers). Very reasonable with the vouchers. Nice atmosphere, although customers kept leaving the door open letting the wind rip in. Good selection of beers, cocktail was good, wine decent. Small plates were good but nothing outstanding. Steak was a cooked one perfectly and not over seasoned. Great chips and peppercorn sauce. My wife enjoyed her first scouse. Main criticism, but by no means a deal breaker is the toilets could do with a bit of TLC. Both toilet seats coming off in the ladies and one toilet out of order in the gents so had to wait for the one to become free. Would definitely go back.

A simple but imaginative menu and really delicious food - even the bread was particularly good. Extensive drinks menu and my Old Fashioned cocktail was the best I had during our stay in Liverpool. Lovely friendly service. Well worth a visit.
