Nice and cozy pub with a wide selection of beers. Didn't try the food unfortunately.

Classic pub, food was spot on - service a little blunt, but it can be a busy pub and the atmosphere is great, particularly if you can get one of the booths.

The main room is beautiful, but to pay over £34 for a glass of wine, a pint of cider and 3 shots of schnapps is extortionate. Also, their toilets are tiny.

It's a beautiful place rich with history, including a fabulous 3-sided fireplace, but £7.60 for a pint of cider (or anything else) is ridiculous

Very busy Sam Smith pub with an unusual long shape. Very fancy the booths although it’s not easy to find them free as it becomes busy after the office close. It used to be the only pub in London with the ale in wooden casks. Not sure now. It deserves a visit.

We came here after work for a bite to eat, and it truly felt like stepping back in time. The interior was beautifully preserved, with its fully wooden booths, grand fireplace, and historic charm creating a warm and unique atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot to unwind after work and soak in the vintage vibe. While the burger I had was just okay, the ambiance more than made up for it. If you’re looking for a pub with character and history, this place is a must-visit.

A great old trad pub in the City of London

Horrendous prices (seven quid for small bottles), but the fireplace made it worth it on a cold day such as this.

What a gorgeous boozer, the tap selection is good, the organic lager was delicious plus the fire was gorgeous on a damp December afternoon. We were on a one pint pub crawl but we had to have two, its well worth the visit.

Fabulous food and fantastic atmosphere. A historic pub. Apparently it was frequented by George Orwell, Dylan Thomas and John Benjamin. The Toastmasters meeting I attended there was really entertaining and I ended up having drinks with friends afterwords. A great evening.

Had read that pub served Old Peculiar so disappointed it did not. Server was rude when we inquired. She didn't have a clue about the beers on tap. Shame as the pub itself is a gem.

Had an appointment across the road in half an hour. Decided to pop into the pub, use the loo and check my email. The place was almost empty. Just before I was about to leave, a man I assumed to be the bar manager abruptly asked if I'd brought anything. I said no and that I was just leaving. He proceeded to berate me; swearing and telling me to get out immediately. I've no objection to being asked to leave if I've not purchased anything but he went from zero to extremely angry in no time at all. The place was nearly empty. I wasn't playing loud music or even using their WiFi. I'd barely been there 25 minutes. I told him I thought he was being rude which only elicited further verbal abuse as I left. Avoid this place if you can. Plenty of more welcoming places in the Holborn area.

Amazing pub with old style with huge barrels on top. Also beer still afordable less than 5£ worth visit it.

Fantastic place for beer and food, especially the Cellar Bar, where the staff (well, the very helpful and very smiley lady behind the bar) was fabulous.

Used to drink here during work lunchbreaks - 43 years ago. An absolute pleasure to find that is has not changed at all. Good beer, good food, good atmosphere, friendly staff. Get a booth and settle in for the evening!

One of the best venues for a pub in London. Beautiful old building, lots of wooden beams, extremely high ceiling and little booths to sit in, and a nice sort of expensive living room vibe in part of the pub too.

This is a Samuel Smith owned pub. Excellent surroundings and atmosphere. Very pricey alcohol. They are selling bottles of organic chocolate stout 330mls for approximately £7 per bottle, where as it is half the price outside of this establishment at £3.50 for a larger volume bottle, so you can only imagine my shock that for two bottles of this specialist and beautiful stout I was charged £14.50. The food was very good - pricing for what we had was average for the area. The pricing of the alcohol is off , and they will run the risk of alienating customers, or driving them away from drinking more than just a swift half to experience the building and setting.

Truly a fine example of a great british pub one of the Sam Smith bars, so you can get the great Sam Smith organic chocolate stout there.

Fancied a pint, looked around for a pub and by chance saw this place. Lucky me. Well worth a visit if you enjoy a pint well served in a wonderful atmosphere. Didn't eat here but the food coming out looked delicious.

Gets a 4 all because of the building it is in, staff were good, but the beer in my humble opinion is very poor. I have never been a fan of Sam Smiths, has to have red wine instead. Tasted my friends beer just to see, and no, it has not got any better. But, as I said, go there for the history, well worth it, but avoid the rank beer.

Beautiful pub in North London. Cheap yet cold and delicious beer compared others in the area. Didn't try the food but it looked good. Great environment, seating and selection of brews.

Honestly the worst “curry” I’ve ever had. It was basically sloppy water and rice with bits of coriander. It was inedible. The rice was ok. But learn from me and save yourself from the water curry with the flavour of oxygen. Grim. Staff were lovely though. But shame about the cook.

Must stop at pub! I really liked this pub when I visited 2018. It’s very unique with old world feel, wood floor and paneling. Large barrels abound which give it all a very old London feel. There are cubicles to sit in too which are really nice, plenty of standing room and a long bar. The beers are Samuel Smith which I quite like. The staff were attentive. I would definitely check this pub out it you’ve not been, it really has a great character and worth stopping for a pint if you’re in the area.

I went to this pub with my friends, nice atmosphere, this is an unique London pub, even because is a Grade II listed building. Nice service and really good beers.

A traditional pub we dream to see when visiting London ! We went after a recommendation from another pub and we were not disappointed at all !! It's like a time travel to the 18th century, with delicious local beer, amazing fish and chips, and very nice servers, patient enough to explain to us everything and answer every question we could have. Horrible pub with horrible staff. Small barman tried to start a fight over charging £2.90 for a half pint of lemonade. £5.80 for a pint of lemonade. Stay well clear.

Lovely atmospheric old pub, good beer

Cittie of the Yorke is my favorite pub in London, located close to Holborn underground station. I visited again in late June, 2024 for dinner. I was shocked that it was almost empty due to holiday season of the locals. Anyway, the service was good as always and my dish was very good. I had a pint of Samuel Smith's extra stout for my dinner. Great!

Possibly the best Sam Smith's in London. Decent if not outstanding beer in a fantastic high ceiling wood-panelled vault, giving it a gothic feel. No music, just the murmur of conversation. Very relaxing. Recommended.

What a fabulous place! With it's high ceiling and wooden timbers it felt like being inside a boat. In addition to the ample seating near the bar, there are several cute booths and other nooks and crannies to explore. There is a great selection of cask ale and good service from the friendly staff. I hope to visit again.

Good beer and good food, but my stuff got stolen, so be careful. The ambience and decor is fantastic, especially the cool cubicle booths. The beer is very good (locally brewed) and their food is tasty. I got fish and chips; the fish was tender and the chips were chips (so, good). Unfortunately my backpack was stolen as it was sitting next to me, and the table where I was eating (table 24) happened to be in a CCTV blind spot. The manager was sympathetic, but told me that they didn't have a phone for me to call the police. He did offer me a coffee, though. Overall, I'd say that it's a good pub with solid food and vibes, but make sure you're aware of your surroundings.

Very British place. Ancient and even cited on Wikipedia. Very jovial welcoming staff, as you would expect in a pub. very nice environment. In addition to the classic counter, the booths around the entire perimeter of the room are very nice. Excellent beer and wide choice. Good prices. Advised.

It seems to be a popular pub anyway, and by 5 o'clock it was already full. I happened to find an empty seat in the aisle, so I ate there, but they didn't have a pub menu, which was a bit of a problem. There is also a restaurant attached, but it seems that you can also order from the restaurant menu at the pub. There aren't that many types of beer.
