A beautifully preserved historic pub with cozy little rooms inside the bar – perfect for a quiet pint. They serve a great range of Samuel Smith’s beers. Both the food and drinks were excellent!

Large pub with different rooms available. From the top of my head I would say four. The bar area, outside, a side room at the entrance, and a downstairs cellar with a second bar. Service was fast. I have seen people eating full dinner plates, but my group was not there for it, just drinks.

We didn't eat, hence a no star rating for food. The pub is an amazing building. The aroma of the wood and the feeling of the building took you back in time. We were lucky to have started chatting to a gentleman who happened to be the son of a previous owner of the pub, and he was able to regale us of stories of when worked for his dad as a 20 year old.. this happened to be the first time he'd been back in the pub in 64years. It was like our own private history tour. We'll definitely be back to soak up some more of the atmosphere and of course, a few more ales 🍻🍻🍻😁

Absolutely lovely pub, especially in the winter. It has this amazing triangular fire place / hearth in the middle of the pub. Really nice books for 2-4 people. The food was good although a little pricey for a pub and the amount you get. Service was friendly and quick. Definitely worth a visit with friends!

Odes and Ales at the Cittie of York This pub had not made it to our "London pub crawl" this year but thanks to a great conversation with a couple of locals we added it as a must-see stop en-route to Covent Garden. I wish I had taken pictures but Google pictures won't disappoint. I felt I had stumbled upon a gem and a subsequent internet search showed me I was not alone in my admiration with Dylan Thomas penning an ode to its Long Bar in the 50's. While I knew I hadn’t been misdirected by the London ‘Hooray Henrys,’ I am sorry I didn't pay enough attention while I was there to fully appreciate the impressive cathedral-like long bar. Next time, I’ll go back with fresh eyes—and this time, I’ll be sure to soak in every cathedral-like detail!

Cittie of Yorke 📍22 High Holborn, London, WC1V 6BN 🚇 Chancery Lane 🍺 £3.80 Taddy Lager ❤️ The Cittie of Yorke is a Sam Smiths pub that is just a stones throw from Chancery Lane tube. This was my final stop after a pub crawl down the Grays Inn Road and what nice place to end a day on the sauce. There is a sign on the front that states that this site first had a pub on in in 1430 but the current pub was rebuilt in 1920. This is a stunning looking boozer which looks a lot older than it is. As you walk inside the place just oozes character with huge vaulted ceilings, massive oak barrels over the bar and some elegant booths to sit in and enjoy a drink or a bite to eat. The clientele was mixed from tourists to city workers and the atmosphere is very different as your surroundings are more a kin to a castle or a cathedral. I’m not a fan of the beer choices here but at £3.80 a pint in central London is good value. This pub appears in plenty of top ten pubs to visit in London and deservingly so as it’s unique, atmospheric and a joy to have a pint in. . 📊 Information correct on visiting 04/05/18 More London Pub info @londonpubmap 🍻 .

My partner and I came here for a bite to eat and although the food was very nice, I felt that it was expensive for what we had. I had the toasted sausage sandwich with fries, and there was hardly any caramelised onion on it, which I found disappointing. Also, I found the lady behind the bar a bit ignorant and dismissive. The pub itself is gorgeous with very olde worlde décor. Overall, it was a nice experience but definitely room for improvement in certain areas.

I've had this place down for great beers but awful food for a while, but haven't eaten there for years so it may have improved. Otherwise, and ignoring the food, this place is great for olde worlde pub booth banter, the crazy health and safety fire heater hazard in the winter, and basically no women.

Had an appointment across the road in half an hour. Decided to pop into the pub, use the loo and check my email. The place was almost empty. Just before I was about to leave, a man I assumed to be the bar manager abruptly asked if I'd brought anything. I said no and that I was just leaving. He proceeded to berate me; swearing and telling me to get out immediately. I've no objection to being asked to leave if I've not purchased anything but he went from zero to extremely angry in no time at all. The place was nearly empty. I wasn't playing loud music or even using their WiFi. I'd barely been there 25 minutes. I told him I thought he was being rude which only elicited further verbal abuse as I left. Avoid this place if you can. Plenty of more welcoming places in the Holborn area.

This is a Samuel Smith owned pub. Excellent surroundings and atmosphere. Very pricey alcohol. They are selling bottles of organic chocolate stout 330mls for approximately £7 per bottle, where as it is half the price outside of this establishment at £3.50 for a larger volume bottle, so you can only imagine my shock that for two bottles of this specialist and beautiful stout I was charged £14.50. The food was very good - pricing for what we had was average for the area. The pricing of the alcohol is off , and they will run the risk of alienating customers, or driving them away from drinking more than just a swift half to experience the building and setting.
