Best bread I have ever tasted. This is a great little bakery , the staff are very friendly and welcoming. They are renowned for their cinnamon squares which are extremely delicious, as are all their other cakes , but for me personally it’s their bread, it is just another level , light , fluffy and tasty and made me realise that I had been missing out on really great bread. They a worthy winners of so many awards.

Cinnamon Square has an olde worlde ambience and is reminiscent of past eras. Probably not the best place for other than cake and a hot drink, but their cakes, which I believe are baked on-site in the main, do deliver. Can be a little crowded at the weekend, but during the week it provides a pleasant setting for time out with friends or a meeting. There are tables upstairs if you are seeking a quieter atmosphere. As most of the cakes are produced in-house the staff know what ingredients are involved which helps with food allergies and intolerances. I have visited a number of times and sometimes the service is better than others. Some of the younger staff (possibly working there on a temporary basis) seem rather inexperienced and lacking in training, but they are generally friendly. Relatively costly but one might expect that for homemade cakes and originality.

Full, informative and friendly five-hour course (including half-time great food break) in bread-making. Paul Barker's presentation, demonstration and practical tuition were exemplary, drawing on his self-evident passion and delivered with skill, clarity and good-natured humour and patience. Eight adults of varying youthfulness and antiquity (nine if Paul is included) had a constructive and fun time.

We had to walk the length of Rickmansworth High Street to find an independent cafe and ducked under the low door into this cosy one. The bread and cakes looked and smelled delicious and we were shown upstairs to a coffee table and soft chairs which was not ideal for eating . We ordered drinks and ciabatta sandwiches from friendly staff and the long wait began...After about 30 mins some luke warm chocolate drink arrived and we had to ask twice more for our food. This came long after the drinks but the bread was delicious , warm and crisp although the filling could have been much more generous. As we paid we were told that it would no longer be a cafe from 5 th Jan and instead would be a cookery school and cater for parties. Although it wasn't the best cafe I have visited this is sad news for Rickmansworth. The town lacks character and is a much less interesting place than when I was here several years ago. At least their delicious bread will be available at weekends.

Do not order off the cafe menu. If you want anything other than cake and a coffee I would strongly suggest you go elsewhere. I ordered a Tuna melt from the toastie section of the menu and when it arrived I knew straight away that it had been microwaved. The ciabatta was extremely hot and hard which is a sure sign that it had been microwaved. There was no indication of ‘toasting’ anywhere on the ciabatta. If you’ve ever microwaved some old bread or a crusty roll to bring it back to life for a few minutes then this is what we received. In addition, the tuna was spread on thin like butter and was almost non existent. I won’t even go into the portion size. I’ll just say small. The toasties need to be renamed as ‘microwave toasties, no actual toasting takes place’ When you’re spending near £30 you do not expect a microwave to be used for a toastie. Service - the service started off well when they wanted to take the order but when it came to aftercare, there was none. We were left for over 30 minutes before we decide to go downstairs for some assistance. They are still riding the wave of success from previous years but when complacency sets in things do deteriorate rapidly. There has clearly been no forward thinking when it comes to maintenance/improvement.

I was given a very warm welcome which is always a good start. There's a notable difference between the eat in and takeaway prices but it's understandable due to the small seating area. The prices are clearly marked so its down to individual choice. My coffee was lovely but had too little milk for a cappuccino. I'm sure they would have rectified it if I'd asked but it still tasted good.

I orders our wedding cake from here because we were very keen that our wedding cake not only looked good but also we wanted a cake that tasted amazing and was affordable. We have eaten in Cinnimon Square before and particulaly love their signature cinnimon buns..although we always have to order the large ones as they taste so devine. Anyway Lucy made our wedding cake and it went down an absolute storm, we had a wedding consultation and were able to e mail her with our ideas and try sample flavours. Lucy delivered the cake to our venue and dressed it for us. We had 5 layers of different sponge flavours and it was completely devoured by our guests. We had a huge number of compliments. The cost of the cake was very reasonable which was of course also a consideration. I could not recommend this place enough if you want a wedding cake that not only looks beautiful but tastes delicious. We did not want a pretty looking cake that people did not like the taste of. Also if you have the chance to visit here for lunch or tea I highly recommend it, reasonable prices and great quality food and cakes. Their cool book is wonderful, we have bought several as gifts and the staff and Paul who writes the books are very friendly and approachable. We have been so impressed I have just ordered a Cinnimon bun tower cake for my husbands birthday. A big thank you to Cinnimon Square for bringing a sprinkle of joy!

Went in for lunch with my mum rather than picking one of the big high street brand names, and unfortunately I just have to say that the quality of the food is absolutely under par . There is no way that the food coming out of the kitchen is being prepared fresh or by a chef of a decent standard. The reason this is such a shame is because the staff are SO LOVELY and they are very sweet and on the ball but I just felt like I'd spent £21 on really bad quality food. It just a massive shame, - I hate to leave negative feedback but I really do feel like we were totally underwhelmed. For an independent place I strongly advise to look at the quality of the food in future. As much as the staff were lovely and really helpful, I just will not be returning for food anytime soon unfortunately. A lady next to us ordered a sandwich and for a place to be supposedly a coinesseur of bread, I've genuinely seen better looking sandwiches in tesco.

it used to be a great place to meet for coffee and scrummy cakes and great bread, but over the years it has definitely lost its way. I stopped going there for coffee as it tastes like it has no coffee in it even when I ask for another shot. The final straw was today when I went to buy a croissant and was charged £1.70 for it!!! I could have forgiven them if it has been delicious but it tasted as if it was yesterday's. Really dry and utterly tasteless. I would have done better buying one from Tesco at half the price.

After an amazing Sunday morning lay in, myself and my partner decided to head to Cinnamon Square for some brunch at 1:30pm (despite the fact they only serve breakfast up until 12pm we still enjoy a sandwich off of their lunch menu). When we arrived we waited to be seated for a couple of minutes which is quite unlike them as the staff are usually quite attentive, nonetheless we were shown to a small table in one of the alcoves and given menus. The bakery has quite a cute rustic charm however the table had not been cleaned yet and the waitress recognised this and disappeared to come back later with a cloth to wipe it over.

Having completed a canal walk from Uxbridge to Rickmansworth (highly recommended, incidentally), tea and a cake at Cinnamon Square really hit the spot. In fact, the pot of leaf tea and the beautifully light and delicious Victoria sponge was the nicest I've had for a very long time. Good value too, as it was no more expensive as any of the chains (where you would be served tea from a tea-bag and an inferior, mass produced cake).

On the surface this has all the makings of something excellent. Very boutique style in it's set up, proudly displaying a host of awards at the front of the shop; clearly they do something right. On the other hand though, service was slow... we had to ask twice for a table and it was only when my wife peered around the corner that two of the staff who were chatting like it was a Sunday decided to come over. We ordered cream tea and scones, and whilst nice, the scone was the size of a biscuit. The wait for said teas and scones was about 20 mins. Whilst not abnormally long, it is only a tea and a scone so should be quicker. This clearly isn't unusual as the management seem to have implied on another review, unfortunately I also agree with the reviewer- service is slow. I will add though, the lady who served us was very polite and courteous. Not sure if I'd go back again for a sit down, maybe for a takeaway though ...

The bread is multi purpose as you can either ruin your cutlery trying to butter it, break your teeth attempting to bite into the rock hard shell, or use it to choke on as it is utterly inedible. There is a wenzels in the high street, I recommend going there. The bread isn't even made on site it is delivered there, what a rip off! Paul Barker taught us to make a traditional white loaf (the basic starting point), and then a wholemeal one. We also produced plaited loaves from dough made earlier (the flavours have a chance to develop if the dough is made the day before). We saw and discussed, but didn't get to make this time, sourdough. Paul is an excellent tutor, answering all our questions fully and clearly. There was a good, friendly atmosphere and he's extremely knowledgeable. I have visited this place a few times in the past and have had very different experiences. The cakes are very nice and there is a good selection, however there are always very few staff and the wait time is always far too long. My daughters friend worked there until last year and what I heard from her experience there I thought was more worthy of a mention and should be publicly known. The seemingly lovely, child friendly environment isn't exactly as it seems. The staff are not so well treated and are often extremely rudely spoken to by Paul, the owner and head baker. This led to one such instance where she spent her entire lunch break in tears! This is utterly unacceptable! Presumably they have children of their own, how would they feel if this was their child!? There is never any support or help offered by the owners and instead the younger staff are scrutinised in every aspect of what they do. The pay was far below the stated amount she was intentionally told she would receive, and no explanation was given. The working hours did not reflect the duration of a break the staff would receive and often there would be no break at all. Upon hearing this I felt it necessary to post a review, but also to urge any parents of young staff who are currently employed there, or any business where they feel unfairly treated, to surface the information! Without this knowledge employers can, and will, exploit there staff unbeknown to their parents or the public. There is some explaining to be done, I eagerly await your reply

Yesterday I went on the Baking Day training course at Cinnamon Square, Rickmansworth. It was an intensive day run by Paul Baker in which we learnt how to make Brioche, Speciality Bread, Chou Pastry, Chiffon Cake, Ganache, Swiss meringue buttercream and Creme Patisserie. The course is limited to 6 people and runs for 8 hours from 9.30am. Paul obviously knows his trade and we ended up making a load of bread and cakes which were able to take home. The course was very friendly, with lunch and drinks provided. Some on the course found the "kneading" of the bread hard work but the end result was worth it. Thanks, Paul, for a great day. Cecil

Visited for a quick cup of coffee and a cake. If you don't like the chain venues and want something a little more different then this is the place to come. Fresh cakes being cooked on the premises, quaint surroundings and helpful staff. You could not ask for more.

My Mum and I were passing through and just stopped here for a coffee to meet a friend who lives in the area. I was pleasantly surprised by the quirky entrance and layout.. what I thought was just a normal cafe from the outside turned out to be so much more. The cakes on display were out of this world! Everything from individual cupcakes to whole cakes - every flavour you could think of. I was especially impressed to discover that everything is made on site and they even do special sessions where you can watch pastry being made or even learn how to bake! There was a wonderful breakfast menu too but unfortunately we had already eaten. We had a lovely latte and I purchased 2 cupcakes for my daughters which were decorated completely in tiny marshmallows. I am going to make a point of returning in February half term (I live in Oxford) with my children so that they can see this place for themselves. Thank you once again.

This course is for the "bread nerd"...thats me!!! I would advise that you would need to have tried to make a sourdough at home and have some knowledge of making that particular type of bread. You don't need any experience, as you are there to learn but some knowledge is useful. The course was well thought out, organised and informative. I finally learnt how to knead my dough properly, measure my ingredients ( yes that where I go wrong) and how to make my bread arty with new decorating skills. Shaping the bread was also a great skill too. Cinnamon square offer a dinner and any drinks ( yes.. I went for the wine!) and got tipsy! There was lots of bread to take home, offer friends and take to work. I loved this course. i have booked for the croissant, danish pastry and sweet buns course.

We have been regular visitors to cinnamon square over the last few years but unfortunately today was most probably the last time. Having walked out once before due to poor service and food (we were compensated with a meal voucher) we decided to give it another try for lunch. Whilst the food was ok the portion sizes were embarrassingly small and tantamount to a rip off for the price. My mum had the vegetarian tart and I had the sausage platt. The tart could be eaten in one mouthful and the platt maybe 2/3 at most. The 'salad' consisted of a slice of tomato, 2/3 of cucumber and some greens with a little pesto. More a garnish or plate decoration than a salad. Either the price or the portion needs to be adjusted. Drinks were removed from the bill as compensation but a meal spoilt and a family of customers lost. Shame

Despite some recent poor reviews for cinnamon square, we decided to continue coming here as had always enjoyed it before. However the service we received was terrible and we ended up leaving. When we entered the shop we went to the till to order a hot drink each and two cinnamon squares. When we placed our order, the lady serving seemed inconvenienced by our custom. She asked whether we would like our order to eat in or out and we said we would like to eat in. After paying, we went to stand at the sign to wait to be seated, however the lady came up to us and said that we had not paid to eat in as we had indicated that we wanted to take away, which isn't true, and confirms that she had only been paying half-attention when taking our order. She said that we had not paid the eat in price but that she would let us sit down anyway. So we were taken to a table and sat waiting for our drinks. She then came over with two drinks in takeaway cups as if we were going to sit down inside the cafe and drink out of takeaway cups. Then said that if we would like to eat our cinnamon squares with our drinks, we would have to come downstairs and pay more for them. At this point we decided to just take our cinnamon squares and leave, since we're drinking our coffee out of takeaway cups anyway. Once downstairs, we complained about the poor service, and (presumably) the manager, who was behind the till, said in a very curt tone, that if if was their mistake (which it was), then they should not have approached us with takeaway cups and asked for more money. I explained that i had clearly stated to eat in, however he clearly wasn't interested and turned back to what he was doing. We were very disappointed as previously we have been big advocates of cinnamon square and I am constantly recommending it to friends and visitors, but i don't think i'll bother any more. Cinnamon squares were nice though, even though i had to eat it out of a box while walking along the street, balancing a coffee in the other hand.

Have been many times over the years. Never fails to disappoint. An award-winning bakery that also serves breakfast and lunch. Duck as you enter and you first see artisan breads, mouth-watering cakes, friendly welcoming staff and if you are lucky somewhere to sit. Not disabled friendly only because it is an old building and you step down into it. Toilets are upstairs but there is a toilet in the small garden in a shed. Unfortunately yesterday they were extremely busy and said there was 30 min wait for food. We said we would have a hot drink while we wait but when he served it he then apologised and said that there was an hour wait. So we had our coffee and a croissant each and left. Not cheap (£9.40) The croissant should have been warmed but as they were busy we didn't make a fuss. We have eaten breakfast and lunch there and the food is delicious but this time it wasn't to be. There are two car parks just round the corner. One free for 2 hrs (3 if you are disabled and have a blue badge) and a paying car park opposite with a disabled space but you still have to pay and display. £3 for the day, whether you are there for 10 minutes or 2 hrs. Rickmansworth has a one-street shopping parade with Banks, Hairdressers, M & S Food, Charity Shops, Independent Greengrocers and other coffee houses and round the corner, near the Station, a huge WAITROSE. Nice enclave to visit.

Either eating in or taking away their delicious offerings to my mind there is no better place. We were lucky enough to win afternoon tea at the Mencap stall at the Croxley Revels and we went along to have this. All the staff were friendly and helpful and said the scones and jam would take just a little time. When leaving we complemented them and they said they had actually run out of clotted cream and had dashed to Marks and Spencer for us. How kind. The Florentines are the best I have ever tasted and believe me I have tried loads. I bought Pauls great baking book and when things are a bit quieter I look forward to trying some of the recipes. A course there would make a great Christmas present - hint hint to him indoors!

My daughter had her 5th Birthday Party at the 'Makery' and it was absolutely brilliant. Our party host was excellent with the children and she made my daughter feel very special. The children made their own bread, pizza and cookies and they all helped to decorate the birthday cake. They got to eat the pizza and take away all the rest of the goodies that were baked for them and put into party bags. Everything was so well organised and I would highly recommend these parties as something a little bit different. Thank you Cinnamon Square!

Sat down and was told they'd be right with us. After 25 mins of no service my GF went to ask if she could order at the bar. Rude abrupt manager with no service skills not worth the journey.

I used to love this place, so said I would take my mum and dad for lunch. When we arrived there was only about 5 other people in the cafe and about 7 staff do we thought oh nice won't take to long then. Oh how wronge were we. By mistake we queued at the take out till and waited about 10 mins to even asked were to sit because the mangers was being really rude to a poor old lady in Front because she was asking about her bill. Then he was like just wait there and someone will come. Another 5 mins later still no one came so we just sat down at a table we saw free and hoped someone would come soon 15 mins we waited and no one come to is 3 staff even walked passed looked at us and moved on without saying anything in the end we left and went some were else. What as wasted I won't be coming here again

I visited for breakfast, order was taken promptly and staff are friendly. Food took longer than expected as it was not busy when ordering, good food and good coffee. What let it down was the grubby table that had not been cleaned since the last guests but we were seated at it anyway. The table was adjacent to the stairs so I could not help but notice that the stairs needed a hoover/brush.May I also bring it to your attention that the fire extinguisher was not located where the 'AFF FOAM' wall sticker was located. The extinguisher was on the other side of the table on the floor, minor but if this is an attitude you take to fire safety then I hope a similar attitude isn't taken with other parts of the business.

Went to cinnamon square for lunch after a walk, we were seated at a table and the waitress told us she'd be back in a couple of minutes to take our order. 30 minutes later we where still waiting. So just decided to head to the till, and place the order there instead. The manager was working on the till and I asked if I could place my order, he told me to go back and sit down and that he'd send someone over, I asked if I could just order there at the till to save everyone some time as it had already been half an hour. He was in my opinion, quite annoyed that I wanted to order at the till and not follow his instructions. He made me feel extremely uncomfortable, and when I sat back down at the table after ordering I really regretted ordering at all and not leaving to find somewhere else. We finally got our food an hour after walking into cinnamon square, the food was OK. But the service remained poor. Attitude of the manager in general just made me feel uncomfortable.I've always been someone to rave about cinnamon square. Even after this experience I told my brother and his girlfriend to go there for Sunday lunch because I genuinely used to love it, and thought my experience was a one off. Unfortunately they had a very similar experience and I felt bad for suggesting the place. Won't be recommending the place to anyone anytime soon.

Everything about this visit was poor. Staff were uninterested, their service towards the consumer was poor and unfriendly. We ordered breakfast and drinks, drinks took 30 minutes to arrive and were not particularly warm! The food took a further 40 minutes to come. It was appalling. The eggs were cold and overcooked. When we complained, the solution was to reheat them in the microwave - something that will cook them even further! So disappointed and will never be back. Would avoid for breakfasts.
