Tasty meal perfectly cooked and friendly welcoming staff. Recommended!

Just been here. Always liked it, but had a bad experience tonight. Ordered poppadoms, starters and mains. The starter came before I finished my poppadoms then, ready for a break, the main course turned up before I'd even finished my starter!! Too quick. We went for a 19:30 booking, waited 15 minutes for the table, and were home by 9. And we live 5 miles away, and had to drive. Poor. I've got photos of food I didn't touch but won't post them, as it wouldn't convey my annoyance. Be aware.

Fantastic restaurant, always very friendly staff and owner , the food is spot on , always answer any questions we ever asked re the dishes , never had to wait for the food to come , never had any bad food , use it at least 2/3 times a month , few beers across the road then a few more with the meal , very reasonable pricing too

My family and I went to this restaurant today . It was fabulous. First off ,the server was so kind and helpful.The wait time was not long at all . As well as this , the food was nothing short of spectacular. It was very flavourful and the portion sizes were more than adequate. Also my kid asked for a straw and they got it out in no time.Any request we made were met quickly.Overall a wonderful experience, couldn't recommend more.

Excellent food only disappointment fir me is I prefer a flat onion baghi but sml round ones here. That said plenty of other starters to choose from

Our go to Indian restaurant. Food excellent, service and staff friendly. Their prawn naga is definitely worth a try, hot but with lots of taste. Food cooked fresh on the premises unlike some of the larger chains.

Please please please listen to me and save your pennies. The meal was horrible. Not only the worst curry of my life but possibly the worst restaurant meal ever. The chicken was horrendous. I'm not sure if it was just cheap, tough or actually off. We were all up all night feeling dreadful. Food had no flavour apart from heat. We would not recommend it to anyone at all and will be sticking to the one down the road. Complete waste of hard earned money.

After previously giving this place a 5 star review after multiple good visits. Tonight I felt the need to amend my review. Booked in advance and arrived on time, had to wait 25 mins for a table, after ordering at the waiting area we were taken upstairs where there was not one other person sat down, it was empty. Why the delay? We eventually got our starters. Half hour later, because we were the only ones upstairs and forgotten about, they came with the mains. One of which had clearly been left waiting as was burnt and tough. Unusual for this establishment based on past experience. After 10 years of using this place with no issues, I could have overlooked this. But when it came to the bill, they insisted almost threateningly on cash payment. Like my card payment was dirty. Bitterly disappointed at the change in service and quality levels. Will not be returning any time soon unfortunately and as a place I have previously rated. Thats a big shame. Not sure why the insistance on cash after the service with no mention before or during. Was suggested to pay staff. But something does not sit right or comfortable.

We hadn’t visited for a few years although had a takeaway . Nicely decorated and comfortable seating but the lighting is def a bit weird giving a greenish glow at times ! To the point……thanks to a previous review we also decided to have a change and order starters and forego the pickle tray . The onion bhajis and the fish pakora were lovely, fresh and piping hot . We did share around as we wanted to make sure we could do justice to the mains,. I also tried the Pathi , chicken for me and have to say the sweet and sour made for a very tasty dish. I can’t manage anything too spicy so checked beforehand and was told they would do me a medium rather than hot. It was just right. Others had dopiaza and korai , all very good, We shared mushroom and veg rice , very generous portions, and the naans were hot and tasty. Staff were informative and genuinely interested in how we found the dishes, So, we will definitely be returning to try something else from the menu - sooner rather than later . Thank you .

Terrible over priced rip off with dodgy lighting that makes you look ill. Can't think of a time where I've had a worse curry. Taste of India in Penistone is way better

Early dinner. Food was delicious & service very efficient & friendly. I had naga lamb which was spicy as I’d hoped and lamb was super tender. Himself had a mix of prawns, lamb chops and tandoori chicken. Really good. Liver tikka and onion bahji starters were excellent too.

Cinnamon Spice is our local Indian, although not the only one within walking distance (the other one is pretty good too). We eat there as often as we can afford, and take away frequently too, invariably to our great satisfaction. We typically tend to have poppadums and pickle tray in lieu of starters, as both are so good, but this time we opted for starters - the chicken chatt, and the fish pakora. The chicken chatt, which we have had before, was deliciously flavourful - no surprise there - and almost a meal in itself; while the fish pakora, which we had never previously tried, left me wondering: Why didn't anyone tell me?! The fish itself - encapsulated in a light batter coating - was fresh as a daisy, every mouthful a joy, and perfectly accompanied by a very satisfying salad. My partner's main course choice - lamb patia - was a dish we had not tried before; the meat was melt-in-your mouth tender, with a sweet'n'sour character to the dish as a whole; while my chicken tikka korai was abundantly flavourful, an enjoyable change from the hotter dishes I tend to order. Accompaniments to the above were a hot and spicy naan bread (their naans really are consistently excellent, albeit best enjoyed dine-in, as after even the couple of hundred yards walk home they lose that panache), and garlic rice - as usual, without any question at all the best garlic rice we have ever had at an Indian restaurant anywhere, ever.

Visited here last week for the first time. Saw the previous mixed reviews and went without a booking. Asked to take a seat rather cold and inconveniently and wait in the reception. No music playing. The place is small with close to 8 tables. We had a chicken bhuna and Pathia with rice a garlic naans. The curries were outstanding and the naans although not large were light and slightly crispy on the bottom and too hot to handle. Will be retuning, great local curry restaurant. Just turn the takeaway phone down a bit, its loud and constant.

Not been for a few weeks. Ordered takeaway same as usual and what was £8.60 is now £10.90. I wondered why I was the only person there on a Friday Evening - usually have to wait ages. Won't be going back in a rush, might as well go to a restaurant.

Arrived at 17.35 as we had tickets for the Paramount which started at 19.30. We envisaged we would have plenty of time to enjoy a meal. How wrong could we be. No welcome on arrival and we were taken to a table and left. Someone came to take our drinks order. No good evening or even a smile. Then someone came to take our food order. We ordered pickle tray and poppadoms along with onion bhajis and asked for them all to come together. The bhajis didn’t arrive and we had get up to find someone to ask for them. When they arrived, they were dry. At 18.55 we still hadn’t received our curries and had to go to the reception area to explain we had tickets for 19.30 and needed to leave soon and so could we get the curries. These eventually arrived and we had 10 minutes to eat them. To say the service was poor is an understatement. And in fact the people at the next table with two children, were also complaining about the length of time they were waiting for their food. Will definitely not go back.

Nice food, good atmosphere and not expensive. The staff were friendly and helpful, there is even a healthy option on the menu!!

We’ve only had takeaway from here but it’s always nice and flavoursome and well cooked. The staff are pleasant when they take the order and we never have too long to wait for collection.

This is one of the best Indian Restaurants I go to, and I go to a lot as I work from home. The fish dishes are good. The staff are great and very knowledgeable with the dishes and more than helpful to assist with a dish selection. If I am ever in the area, I make a special visit to go.

Tried this local restaurant on the back of a recommendation. The restaurant was busy, which was a good sign, but this didn’t detract on the prompt service. Unfortunately I’m struggling to find anything complimentary to say about the food. Two main dishes and a side dish were all ridiculously over salted and we were unable to eat them. This is a shame as the meat quality appeared really good but just ruined by the salt! We did inform staff, who were very apologetic and spoke to the chef. The response was disappointing as we were advised to ask for less salt in future as salt equals taste! I’ve had many Indian meals before, including two visits to India, and have never had an issue with salt content. I shall be sticking to the Taste of India restaurant in Penistone in the future, the meals there are always lovely.

Unbelievable tasting food and unbelievable service. Noor the owner is very welcoming and went the extra mile to make the service 10/10 - the same goes to the rest of the staff. Will definitely be coming again and will always recommend this restaurant to friends and family

Very bad service, the very OWNER of the restaurant is harsh towards the customer. He didn’t even offer new plates for the next dish, may be he is more concern about cleaning but didn’t thought about of giving better customer service.

I have been going to the same Indian restaurant for ages with varying degrees of quality / taste; which made it more of a necessity when I needed a quick meal rather that a treat to look forward to.. then a few weeks ago I happened to be driving through Penistone and saw someone stood on the pavement on the high street - I noticed that he was waiting outside an Indian restuarant = Cinnamon Spice - so I decided to give it a try... WOW - the food is absolutely delicious - and now a real treat to look forward to!!! The guys who work there are really great too! Thanks Cinnamon Spice :-)

Wow! What an incredible experience. From the friendly welcome to the beautiful decor and then the amazing food cooked to perfection. The manager Suggested meals for my friend and I based on our spice level and he was spot on. I had the chicken chom chom, seriously what a dish, full of flavour and the chicken so tender. Can’t recommend this restaurant/takeaway enough.

By far the best indian food I have eaten in a long time, I enjoyed a takeaway and a sit down meal here whilst on holiday. Fantastic service, no vivid colourants in the food, totally recommend, just wish this was my local restaurant!

Amazing place to eat - the staff were really pleasant and could not do enough for you. The food was really tasty and the naan bread was quite simply the best I have ever tasted. I went for the healthy option and asked the manager to decide for me what to make - I was not disappointed at all. Highly recommend Cinnamon Spice and only wished we lived closer to keep coming here again and again

The food itself was really, really nice. I can't give it more than 3 out of 5 as we waited 40 mins for our starter and then it was about 2 hours by the time our mains arrived. This was of course due to done out to help out and they were working as hard as they could so no complaints.

Have eaten here many times before and had takeaways even more times, always been more than satisfied with both the food and service. This was the first takeaway myself and my family ordered from when the initial lockdown rules were lifted, at the time it had just been taken over by new management, there had been a refurbishment and slight alterations to the menu including price increase but the food and service warranted this. We subsequently ordered another couple of takeaways and both were really nice. Fast forward to 22nd August, my girlfriend and I had ventured out for our first post Covid drink in and around Penistone, we had a very pleasant evening in the new bar that is on the old Cherrydale Chinese site, after a few drinks we decided to visit Cinnamon Spice for a sit down meal, time was around 22:30, we hadn’t booked but no issue as restaurant was moderately busy but plenty of room. After being shown to our seats and given menus and the given the customary few minutes to peruse the menu, the waiter (whom I haven’t seen before) approached and asked if we would like to order drinks, my girlfriend asked for a cider and I asked if they served beer, now at this point I am happy to point out that beer means different things to different people, and having eaten here before I perhaps should have known what they did or didn’t serve, as it was my mind was blank and for some reason I had it in my head that they served bottles of Black Sheep (in hindsight I think this is both Chilli lodge and Curry Mahal) the waiter replied in a quite gruff voice “Cobra” I asked if they had any ale type beers and again he replied in a gruff response “Cobra” Although a little offended at his hostility I asked for a pint of Cobra. A couple of minutes later the waiter appeared back and slammed both my pint of Cobra and my girlfriends bottle of Magners on the table, he didn’t say anything just simply slammed both drinks on the table, initially I was shocked as there wasn’t a glass offered up with my girlfriends Magners, I know that a lot of women drink pints and even drink from bottles and I have no issue with this at all but I do expect the question of whether or not a glass is required to be asked, it wasn’t and when I asked if we could have a glass for the Magners the waiters response was to bring a pint glass and slam it down on the table. I am not a snob and I don’t expect waiters or waitresses nor shop assistants or anyone else working in the catering or entertainment industry to address me as sir or anything like that, not ever and certainly not in these modern times when that industry has been hit so hard, but pleasantness and basic manners cost nothing, as it was this waiter was down right ignorant and offensive. We chose to leave the restaurant without ordering food, to be fair the waiter that was on the door couldn’t apologise enough (he has worked there many years had have the majority of the staff who have always been friendly and polite), the waiter that I haven’t seen before and who treated us with such disrespect had long hair, now I don’t know if we caught him at a bad moment or something else’s had happened prior to our arrival to put him in a bad mood, as stated previously we have eaten here before, both in and as takeaways and anyways been happy with the service, but on this occasion we were let down. Manners cost nothing, the glare that I was given when I challenged the guy on this was disgusting and his colleagues apologies only highlighted the fact that he was out of order. I only hope that this was a blip and normal service will resume ASAP

The year was 2020, and I was a young chancer struggling to get along. In the grip of a global lockdown I found myself unexpectedly grounded. Marooned on a desert island of bewilderment, surrounded on all sides by a sea of hysteria and fear. Confronted with only the raw facets of life and forced to face up to the error of my ways, I began to ponder upon a great many things. Chief among these things; ‘where should I obtain a decent takeaway curry round here now that the Flouch is closed?’ Act IIThe fire smoulders softly on a clear mid April evening. The urge for a brew overtakes me and so I walk to the kitchen and take the kettle from the side. Ambling wearily to the sink I turn the tap and begin to fill the pot. Sunlight streams through the window, warming my face and my tired arms. I feel immense gratitude that I survived. That I am alive. Cup of Yorkshire tea. Smashing. Thoughts of curry flood my mind as I recline once more in the living room and so I grasp tiredly for the phone. I call cinnamon spice Penistone and order the duck tikka korai as it seems like the right thing to do. The curry must be collected and so, with the sun setting, I ready my weapon, saddle my steed and prepare for an arduous journey into the post apocalyptic wasteland outside. I make my way down the high street towards the house of curry. Confronted by hordes of mutated, face-mask wearing zombies, I initially feel a rush of fear flash down my spine. But I steady myself and remember that I am more than the challenge which confronts me. I take a moment to swallow my disappointment at what has become of the inhabitants of my home town, before unsheathing my sword. Two swings of my mighty weapon and I look down upon the pieces of leftist snowflake now scattered around me. The remaining creatures scuttle off into the darkness and my path is now clear. I enter the curry house, swiftly pay for my food and make a hasty exit. I make it back safely with the food and prepare to feast. The first bite of tender duck fills up my senses. I taste the delicate blend of spices and remember what it is to feel joy. The peshwari naan beard is soft and fluffy, it’s everything it needs to be. The rice is also good but nothing to sing and dance about. It’s rice. The meal hits the spot perfectly. Truly a triumph and worthy of strong recommendation. Act IIII will be in Penistone again one day. And when I am, I shall order a curry. It will be a cinnamon spice curry and it will fill up my senses all over again.

Just had our first takeaway after the recent change of ownership and refurbishment.Cant speak too highly of it.The food was excellently prepared by the award winning chef Fored Ahmed. The new owners are very friendly and having made significant capital investment in the kitchen,bar area, lighting and furniture we would recommend you book a meal.The new owners deserve support from the local community to help it flourish.

Friendly staff, but mediocre tasteless food. Place was very cold when we got there, but it was just opening for the evening. Not sure if I will go back again, this was my this or fourth visit, and it's not my favourite place for Asian food.

First visit here last Saturday, booked for 6pm for after our visit to nearby cinema and bar. Very nice welcoming staff, good atmosphere. We had a couple of pickle trays and poppadoms to share and then a main each, sharing breads, naans and rices. I chose a lamb dish which was very tasty. We all enjoyed our different dishes and said we’d definitely recommend and visit again.

We was recommended this restaurant and very happy with our food and the experience. Large variety of classic and unusual dishes. The food was well spiced and tasty. Service attentive. They even specially made a jug of mango lassi for us.

It's a kind of pilgrimage...if I come back to the UK I always try to get back to my "home" town with a resulting must visit to Cinnamon Spice with my bestie! It's kinda been going on for years as has the restaurant. An amazing menu with a kitchen which can twist any dish to your wish.Love this place and having Niel Joubert, South African wine there is the cherry on top!If you are in town and love Indian food then look no further!

The saag is incredible I find it hard to pick something different but the last 2 visits I have forced myself to order something different and I have not been disappointed. I have enjoyed every mea I have had. But oh my goodness make sure you order a chilli nan with cheese they are so nice!

Me and my partner went on a Sunday evening, it was our first trip to Cinnamon Spice having moved to the area a few months ago. After a couple of lovely drinks in the Gin Bar across the road, we headed over to the restaurant. We had been meaning to try the restaurant for a while and we were not disappointed when we got there. We were taken to our table by a very polite waiter and left with a couple of menus. We were never rushed and allowed as long as we needed to choose. My partner and myself shared a mixed kebab starter which was very nice and a great portion size to share (almost too much for one), and had a very nice (and reasonably priced) Australian Shiraz to drink. Soon the main course came, I had a delightful chicken tikka biriyani and my girlfriend had the vegetable Kashmiri. Both were really well cooked and delicious. Our bill came to under £40 with a bottle of wine, shared starter and 2 mains. Very reasonably priced for a lovely evening meal. I will be returning soon and can’t wait to try more of the extensive menu out.

6 of my family went to this Indian restaurant and we all enjoyed the food, the service was excellent and the staff friendly, just the place needs a spruce up.

This place is amazing for eating food.The selection of dishes from around the world is great and the staff are amazing. The only thing is I saw them pouring the drinks out of store bought bottles which upset me a little but except from that it was a great experience for all the family and we will be returning.

Well here we go again, same old story and possibly the last visit this time. Gave them another chance on the insistence of my daughter and ordered a takeaway...WOW, wish we hadn’t. Both dishes can only be described as watery mush. It’s beyond me how this place gets away with it. Not had a proper meal yet. Rang through and complained, to be told sorry it’s because we’ve just opened!! What on earth has that got to do with it? Maybe later in the night they might water stuff down through demand! Surely not at opening time!! Was quickly offered a free meal, as if that’s the norm? But fear it will be as bad as my last three meals. I just want a decent curry, not silly excuses or my money back. A DECENT curry without jar pickled jalapeños or watery mush. How hard can that be?

Enjoyed our visit booking amended short notice from 4-5 people, ended up squished as a chair was just put on the end of the table, but the restaurant was quite full throughout our meal.

Had many meals and never been disappointed. Always good portions, fresh ingredients and prompt service. Thursday specials are a winner, three courses £10.

Had some dodgy takeaways in my time but this was one of the strangest. Ordered Chicken Jalfrezi to go, which most curry fans know contains green chillis. Well, er this one didn’t, except they’d gone and placed just one pickled, yes pickled from a jar Jalapeño on top! So the vinegar was already running out of it when opened. Cmon guys at least supply what you advertise. There’s a fruit and veg shop across the road so there’s no excuse!

Went for an after match curry on Saturday with my son and son in law.Was really looking forward to it but was terribly disappointed.It took 3 hours to be served poppadoms, starters and main course. Got fed up with the excuse that they were busy. To make matters worse when the mains actually finally came they were luke warm and I had to send mine back to get it reheated.We asked five times for a jug of water which never appeared until we complained and it was warmer than the meals they provided. When we did complain nobody was bothered. To add insult to injury we had to wait 20 mins for the bill with no actual breakdown, just a final overpriced total and no refund offered.We have been going to this restaurant for nearly 5 years but alas after this shambles, NEVER again. Good riddance.

Terrible service took hours for meals. Tried to short change my uncle and successfully short changed me out of a tenner rude staff will never go there again!!!

Love the food here, their Tarka Dall and Sag Paneer is delicious. Lots of veggie dishes to choose from that are defined with different flavours and spices, not the usual all round sauce for all dishes! Service is friendly with a small intimate atmosphere downstairs.

Had to move as it was so cold from the door constantly been opened, Only reviewing my food which was OK had better, starter was nice but my chicken madras which was ok but almost bright red meat which was very unappealing, not something i'd order again if i went back.
