Cicchetti in Manchester

I have visited twice in a number of weeks and the food and service was excellent on both occasions. I really love the wine glasses too!

Nice atmosphere, staff were great too, but the 2 star rating comes from the food…because we don’t speak Italian and know what the restaurant name means, we were under the impression we just had to order one plate of food like a normal restaurant. When we were seated we were told it’s like “tapas” so they said we needed to order 6 plates between 2 people. Now with each pasta dish being around £15, that would total at £90 for just the food! No way we’re doing that, so we just ordered one pasta dish and a pizza. When the pasta came out, it was a portion that I would probably give to a literal 3 year old, you’d needed to have had 4 of the pasta dishes to count as one regular sized meal. Pizza was a little bigger but the quality was dreadful, hardly any toppings and really oily. Unless you want to spend £90+ on just your food and probably still not be full then please avoid this place.

This restaurant should not be classified as Italian and shouldn’t have more than one star. Italian tapas: has anyone ever heard of that? Imagine ordering a carbonara and getting a portion fit for a 7-year-old. And let’s be clear—the dish is disproportionately expensive for the size of the portion. Not to mention the quality of the food. Still using the carbonara as an example: they don’t use Pecorino Romano, the pasta was stuck together in a single block, and it was cold. The bread basket was soft and not crispy. In short, don’t waste your time visiting this “restaurant.”

I have been eating and drinking here once / twice weekly for 15 years recently I have noticed a major decline in quality of food and service we always order portofino it was £16 lovely dish plenty for two now they have increased the price to £25 and serve the dish on a much smaller plate half the portion// they have lost there class now they put one scallop on the plate and they cut it in half to make it look bigger how disgusting the flavours the taste everything has lost it way my wife ordered avocado lobster and prawn the dish came full of sauce smothering the dish it had small frozen prawns and no trace of lobster an absolute disgrace if you can avoid after all the years we have been going I am so disappointed I have to avoid

I love this place. It can work out pricey if you order lots. For me it’s a special occasion venue. I like that they don’t follow the starter, mains, desert routine. It’s tapas style, the food comes when it’s ready and that’s plus for me.

Lovely atmosphere, delicious food and amazing dessert! My favourite dish is seafood pasta and the pistachio cake for dessert!!!!🍰 💚 🧁

Bad service (bald barman shouting like he is working in a fish market) - loud music - tables too close to each other so hard to communicate - frozen food reheated - expensive / not worth the price at all. In Italy you would have closed down in literally a week. Not classy as described 👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽

Delicious food, quite filling. We had 6 plates and a bottle of wine for Valentine’s, spent about 130£ and were very full and happy by the end of it. The staff are very kind and attentive. They also kindly swapped tomato base to a white base for our pizza. Pizza was fantastic. Definitely would come again!

Visited to celebrate my birthday with my friends and the experience was appalling. Staff were rude and too busy speaking about what they were doing on the weekend. When the food finally arrived after waiting 40 minutes for a Carbonara? It came cold and my portion was half the size of my friends. We ordered chicken instead of the ham and the chicken was rubbery and horrid. Completely ruined my birthday night out. To top it all off my friend was sick later on in the night. Very dissapointed I usually love San Carlo

For all the hype I would say this is a very average Italian. Booked as a party of 7 , the menu is confusing and expensive for the small plates. I ordered beef ragu pasta, however , the beef was practically non existent & the pasta was dry, it wasn’t warm when it came to the table. (The veg was served well before so that had also gone cold by the time the plates were all out) Some meals were okay others weren’t. Quite a disappointing experience with the food. The atmosphere is relaxed which was nice but for the price we paid I expected better!

the waiter took forever to take our orders, he made the entire experience very awkward and staff seemed to be undertrained/inexperienced. very small portions and our order was messed up twice, overall highly disappointed.

It was fine. Not great. The pastas were nothing extraordinary and the fried mozzarella in “breadcrumbs” is more like fried mozzarella in only flour. Mediocre. Nice aesthetic though! Couldn’t really wrap my head around the prices for food that was so basic.

The food was amazing and the service was really good too. Only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is how awful the toilets were. Women’s smelt dirty and there was no baby change in the accessible toilet.

San carlo gets a lot of stick for being pretentious and over hyped. I actually like it, but today, not so much. The tables are very close together and not much room on them, especially if there are 4 of you. This small plate concept sounds like a great idea but in reality it didn't work for us. Today the salad served with all the dishes was past iys best and wilted. The tuna tartare portion is the same price as the usual restaurants however the portion size is ridiculously small. The smoked chicken caesar was a hit but otherwise the dishes were fairly average, particularly the croquette which had no flavour unfortunately. Not sure we would recommend this one. Sorry!

Seafood share platter wasn't great but pizza was nice and drinks were ok. Every time the front door opened it was freezing, try to get a table on the main floor rather than near the bar.

Bought a gift card for my elderly parent but it took us a few months to use it, due to a bereavement. However, when we came to pay the staff advised that the gift cards were no longer valid in some of the branches of San Carlo. We've used San Carlo for business for many years to entertain customers, but clearly we need to look elsewhere if they are indulging in this type of sharp practice. Incredibly disappointing.

The portion is not enough for an adult at all. Unacceptable. Would not recommend.

Food was ok, but dishes like tuna tartar tasted off and not fresh. Restaurant half empty but non to zero service at the table. Wanted to order another drink told me that the bar is closed- no one asked if we want more drinks or want anything else before making that decision. Overpriced. Never again.

I went in a group of four we was told to order 2-3 dishes per person so we did. Every single item we ordered was cold. The bruschetta was delicious along with the ravioli however it was just cold and not enjoyable to eat, the steak was lacking flavour and biting into cold steak just put me off. The prices are very expensive and I would not return. It may be unfair to say this as we didn’t bring it up the staff, never the less you would expect your food to be warm. The staff were all very kind and attentive.

My expectations were very high for a San Carlo restaurant because people are saying they’re the best Italian restaurant in Manchester. Good sides were the ambiance, it was very lovely, and the food was tasty. However, there were some factors that decreased my enjoyment during my visit. Firstly, it’s a tapas restaurant and I couldn’t understand it when I checked the menu. I thought only the specials were tapas. Secondly, as many people mentioned on reviews, the food came under heated and they were cold in the middle of the food. Thirdly, the service wasn’t very good, nobody asked how was the food or if we need anything else after they served the food. Lastly, when we consider all these factors, the restaurant is expensive and does it really worth for it? Overall, I can say it’s a 3/5 restaurant. I won’t go there again.

Good atmosphere but the food was quite subpar especially for the price. The service was generally quite good from the general waiters although the head waiter/maître di couldn't hide his apathy. Risotto looking like Shrek fell in a blender. Best avoid.

The food was very average. I was very disappointed with the meatballs that looked like 3 little balls honestly the sizes of the plates and the taste was very bland. Too commercial and yeah you wouldn’t find me coming back here. But I guess this is what people assume Italian food is when it just becomes a brands franchise or approach to serving “Italian food” in Manchester. I mean there was no point taking photos of the dishes.

A bit quiet but really good, friendly service and lovely food and drink.

I ordered an Italian mixed grill. Was a small portion for what was ordered and came out with just meat and no sides. Steak could have been cooked better. In contrast, my girlfriend had ordered a steak with peppercorn sauce and this had came out perfectly. Servers were hospital and offered to resolve this issue and had tried to make my experience more pleasant. However, I would not recommend to go here if your looking for a meat dish

I’m disappointed that I can’t try every item on the menu. The food I did manage to order has exceeded my expectations. The staff are warm and welcoming. I could spend hours sitting here, being transported to Italy with flavoursome dishes cooked to perfect. I hope to come back again soon. I especially recommend the Gnocchi Gorgonzola.

no where on the menu did it say the food was tapas, this would be excused if the food was anything special but it arrived cold. i ordered the frutti di mari and i got no prawns in it, only mussels. the ox cheek was also cold and very very dry, not like ox cheek at all. no one came to check to ask if the food was good, if they did i would’ve surely complained. the service was ok outside of the food issues. overall would say VERY VERY expensive for what they serve. it seems well priced at first but ofcourse because of the tapas sized plates and cold food its really not worth it

I had big expectations from as some friend once told me that Cicchetti was the best restaurant in San Carlo group but, unfortunatelly, the experience wasn't the best. The food was mediocre and so the service considering that the restaurant was not even busy. The garlic bread was dry and the rib-eye poor. probably I will not give another chance.

Cicchetti never fails to deliver. I absolutely love this place. I've been many times and I will continue to be a loyal customer. The service is flawless and the food is delicious.

Maybe it was a staff issue but service was poor considering it wasn't very busy. Food was sent back because it was cold in the middle. Well below their own usual standards.

We had the best experience known to man last night. I always wanted to go to a Cicchetti but didn’t have the chance until we stumbled across one in Manchester. Marino greeted us at the door, took our coats and gave the best table in the restaurant overlooking everything. He explained the menu and dynamic of the restaurant perfectly and out food came so fast. Each dish was so good, we ate so fast and got checked in with regularly. The desserts were beautiful too, it was an amazing experience. To end the experience, Marino got out coats and so kindly helped me put my jacket back on which wasn’t necessary but so kind. Thank you to all of the staff, but especially Marino as he was such a delight.

Had a lovely time for dinner here with family! The food was delicious and great quality, despite the portions being a little on the small side. Staff were very helpful and polite and ensured the eating experience was enjoyable for everyone. The restaurant interior is also stunning. Recommend for a good meal!

Very nice restaurant, their food is delicious, but they have a delay in submitting orders. Even the dessert is ready in the refrigerator, but it took a quarter of an hour for it to reach me!!? Knowing that the restaurant was almost empty at the time, they only had three occupied tables, but I was surprised by the delay in ordering!!? I hope that the workers in this restaurant pay attention to this point as it is important for the customer. Thank you.

Met up with some (very old) school friends for lunch here. The service was absolutely impeccable, not fussy, but patient and on hand. The food was pretty good, I had the seafood pasta which was excellent and the others seemed to enjoy their meals too. My only grumble was the price. I realise it’s city centre Manchester, in a nice restaurant, but there are lovely restaurants in Bordeaux that I use regularly that are much cheaper.

We love eating at Cicchetti's and always do every time we visit Manchester. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious and offers great choices at reasonable prices. What's not to love about this place and the location is perfect for shopping

Great food and service. Not a cheap option (£160 for 2 people) but love the restaurant.

Despite booking a table for a specific time, we were made to wait over 30 minutes to be seated with very little communication as to why and how long we’d be waiting. Staff were openly admitting the restaurant was overbooked. No compensation was offered for the wait. We spoke to other customers who had also been waiting a while, so this wasn’t an isolated incident. It’s a shame, as the food was very good, but I’ve got little interest in returning to an establishment whose management doesn’t care about respecting their customers and their time.

Tiramisu is what I really recommend, staff are lovely

On arrival looked like a beautiful place and was looking forward to celebrating my 65th Birthday with special friends but unfortunately it was one disaster after the other and now are of the opinion that cinchetti is very overrated. Service left a lot to be desired right from start and on arrival we were not shown to our booked table and our wet coats were not taken. The total amount we spent on the night was £240 for four people. We ordered a choice of 10 items (5 for us and 5 for our friends) but delivery of food was so sporadic and myself and my husband ended up nibbling on garlic bread for the best part of an hour while in the meantime our friends ate their meals while we watched! When we asked where our mains was the waiter said it would be 15 minutes then he brought just only one mixed grill portion out and placed it in front of my husband and i was told i had to wait yet another 15 minutes ! They also took so long clearing plates and cutlery from our table and also to bring wine and drinks. Another waiter dropped one of the starter choices (type of prawn cocktail) and some landed in the ice bucket with the wine, some landed on the floor, and some even landed on my husbands suit so it wasnt good and very messy! We then had to wait a long time for another one to arrive. We received no apologies or any offer of recompense. Needless to say took long time to bring desert menu and then for our choices to arrive. We couldn't understand why everything took so long we were only the only customers in the place. We will not be returning it was a very expensive mistake going there.

1st time visitor...was a bit nervous due to the recent negative reviews but was pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. All food dishes were great and the waitress was very attentive. Would definitely recommend.

We started off with some apritifs, which sadly were a bit watery. Then we went on to order 3 tapas-sized plates per person. The food was okay but not seasoned enough and got served quite quickly. Overall the ambiente was good but we will not come back for the food or the service (lack of attention: didn‘t fill our empty glasses, only took away part of our used cutlery). I think for this price there are simply better alternatives.

Wonderful meal at Cicchettis yesterday evening. We really enjoyed dining here, the service was spot on. The manager Calogero and all the waiters who served us were so accomodating and welcoming. The dishes we had were delicious, and full of flavour. We had a selection of cakes, and they were divine. Cocktails and wine were really good and we cant wait to come back and try more of the dishes on the menu.

The four stars goes for the small portions. Other than that we had an amazing experience with astonishing Italian tastes

The staff are friendly and the bar has a great atmosphere and drinks service is always great. However, when you propose a 'tapas' style menu I would expect the food to be more refined and interesting, especially when looking at the prices. Probably a safe bet for families with picky eaters as it has a good range of Italian staples, seemed to have good vegetarian options.

Very disappointing lunch, Wednesday, 2pm, not many customers in, however our side of potatoes were only warm, shrivelled and dried up, as if they had been reheated. I had to take them to the counter and shout through to the kitchen as there was no one about. They were replaced but I was still charged for them. There's no excuse for poor service.

Visited here with my grandson who is Autistic. He had the time of his life and wants to return for his birthday meal. The staff were utterly amazing! The food delicious and the atmosphere calm and fairly quiet. Perfect start to a lovely evening. Thank you!

The manager with the tattoo on his neck is a very lowsy and inattentive manager. Shame that your job is a manager and yet you cannot manage? Was not seeking to customers, was just doing laps around the restaurant. Had attitude with all of the customers. Safe to say we will never ever go back again. We will not recommend it to anyone else.

Nice small dishes you typically combine two, pinot nero amazing as well as amarone. Do not rush with a combination, take your time see what will work for you, plenty of choice for everyone.

A lovely foods selection , a real authentic italian food , an excellent service , we are far more than happy , no need booking as they are not that busy , but probably during weekend better book first before you arrive

Came here our sons 20th birthday. Service and staff were all very friendly and attentive. Food was very tasty and good wine, the portions are quite small so you need 2 or 3 per person so works out a bit on the pricey side but worth it. Would definitely recommend and will be returning.

Sublime and superb! Booked, quite literally last second and came here as a couple. It was nearly perfect. Much better than San Carlo opposite. Food was perfect, down to the last detail. Prices more than fair for the sheer quality of food. Staff are friendly and attentive, and this leads to our only downside, they were too attentive. 4 different members of staff asked 6 times if 'everything was okay' within a space of 20 mins... Overall a strong 4.9/5.

Outstanding food, service and atmosphere. We were celebrating my Mum’s birthday and the staff went above and beyond. Ordered 8 dishes not including breads for 4 people and it was plenty. The wine was delicious and all together not too expensive. A special mention to Danielle who made the night so wonderful. We will definitely be back.

Have enjoyed better meals in the past. Restaurant was packed with lunching ladies ( 1 male) & we wondered if chef was a bit overwhelmed?

Tonight the staff was amazing. Can’t thank them enough for being so attentive, understanding and patient. We walked in without a reservation. Even though obviously busy, they made us welcome. The host and team really made a big effort to help with my disabled dad and went over and above to help. Can’t thank them enough.

Myself and my husband had hoped that we would walk into san carlos in Manchester on our weekend away as we love the Birmingham Branch . to find they were full . The security recommended cicchetti across the road an off shoot of san carlos . So we did, we wish we had not - as it spoilt out last night entirely , here in Manchester . Our starter arrived pizzette and zucchini lovely , a waiter takes our plates away then the what we thought was the head waiter bought us the dessert menus !!!! We had not had our main! When we said sorry ur mistaken we are waiting for our main , he just took the menus with an attitude as if our fault ? Why are you here !!' Attitude Mains were bland , lasagne was one layer of pasta - no taste - sloppy The calzone was tasteless / we asked the head ! Waiter if we could have someTabasco " no " was his reply We asked if we could have chilli oil. "No we don't have " was his reply and walked away I walked upto the bar and asked the lovely ladies for chilli oil and yes no problem was the response Just what you would expect . We were so disappointed , the attitude was without doubt horrendous by the waiter , what we did find out was he wasn't the head waiter , but section waiter . The restaurant.manager too whom we complained too, i was do livid said he would sort it out . We waited ages for the plates to be taken , eve. Longer for the bill , Infact we gave up after 18 minutes caught the eye of the restaurant manager - now at this stage we had bets that we would get at least an apology ? If not a discount gif the rude/ ness & arrogance . NO. We got more of the sand I was waking out the door my husband had said leave it / they don't care . But I had to turn around said too the manager I'm disgusted with the attitude , i have never given a bad review but in ur case I feel I had too , he said to me whilst looking me in the eye - and I quote "Bon appetite " So arrogant he should not be in customer service , nor should the waiter . I may add there was a young lad serving , who was lovely - we feel new at service so this is not directed at him . He knows who he is .. We left - and told the security guy at san carlos - which we love - who we believe is of the same chain . He was shocked and apologised . Anyway stay away !!!!!! Manchester you u were lovely - this was a grave disappointment . Cicchetti get a new manager

I've been going to Cicchetti's since they opened. The food and the service is always perfect. Best Italian restaurant in Manchester by a mile.

Food is nice. Service was terrible on a Friday night. 5 people served the table but later they forgot we were there. Not everything we ordered arrived and the desert menu was left for some 30 minutes without anyone turning up. We paid with no tip and no desert. I may give another chance to Covent Garden’s branch. Not Manchester ever again I’m afraid. Avoid it if you can.

Food was very plain no taste at all. Steak was tasteless, no salt, carpaccio and short ribs was disappointing. Service and atmosphere was very cold. Not friendly. In general Everything was very plain.

The service was really good, all staff were very attentive and the restaurant was very nice, however, all the food we had ordered tasted the same, and didn't have very much flavour to them. We'd been advised to order 2-3 dishes each as everything was tapas, however when the food came out, they seemed more like full size meals, so it wasn't necessary to order as much as they suggest, which could be an oversight on their part or a way of getting more money at the detriment of the customer.

Highly recommend coming here! The service is always on point, the waiter’s are attentive and friendly, and the food is nice too (truffle ravioli is really good). There’s plenty of different seafood, meat, and veggie options. Thank you for helping with my sisters birthday surprise!

Me and my partner came to this resteraunt on saturday evening for a date nite that got ruined we did go to san carlos first as ive been here on numerous occasions and the food as always been lovely but they where fully booked so they advised us to go over the road to this one which ive never dined in before My partner has a seafood allergy which was stated upon ordering our food while we was seated at our table and orderd food my partner wanted chips with his main meal to be told by the waitress that the chips got cooked in the same fryer alongside other food so he was unable to order chips because of his allergy which i thought was rather strange cause im sure you class that as food contamination ive been to many resteraunts with my partner and never come across this ever when ordering chips Me and my partner orderd a garlic bread each only to find that i had a piece of grey hair in my food after i had eaten half the garlic bread so when i called the waitress over to show her the hair that was in my food she went and got the manager the manager came to our table and asked us to leave the resteraunt so we dont make any more complaints i found this utterly appauling and rude ive never in my life been asked to leave a resteraunt after complaining of a piece of hair being in my food this resteraunt is by far the worst resteraunt i have come across and ive been to many in my time and this was due to the rudness of this manager i suggest if anyone thinks about booking a table here do not complain to the manager if you find hair in your food or you have any allergies .

Food was average, the service was poor, most waiters we mumbling and we couldn't hear what they were saying.

Myself and my partner went to cicchetti tonight as part of a weekend away she arranged for me for my birthday some time ago. We'd been reccomended by several friends that the food was outstanding. Unfortunately it simply wasn't. Our first clue was when it was completely empty at 1730 when we went in. We were seated and rushed to make drink choices. So much so I decided to just settle with table water. We were told by the somewhat rude staff about the reccomendation for 5/6 dishes and then eventually settled on our choices. It was completely dead inside with no real atmosphere. We were quickly brought out Italian bread. I'm not sure any of the breads were Italian if I'm honest, they were all cold and hard and it was left to be binned. It came with cheap butter packets (wheres the oil and Balsamic plate to dip??) The baby mozzarella balls were very good albeit expensive for the portion we got! The carbonara was awful, cold, gloopy and sad. It tasted slightly like tinned macaroni cheese I used to get as a kid at school. Then there was the pizza. Again this was poor, it was basically a pitta bread and I still can't find the Italian in it? Your staff then added 12.5% onto the bill which was another sickener and I did consider complaining but was too embarrassed and just wanted to be out of there. Unfortunately I don't think I can reccomend you to family or friends going forward and don't think I'll ever return. I left feeling unsatisfied and unhappy at the service received and the food provided.

One of our favourite restaurants..Chose for my birthday..Food was delicious as always.. Reception was surprisingly flat this evening..No real acknowledgement of the special occasion. One of the waiters was terse, belittling.. Probably not intentional but it was actually really upsetting. Not the warm welcome and friendly banter we are used too. We have come to expect a level of friendlyness and service that is close to unparalleled anywhere..I'm sure Joseph is a nice guy but he left us quite upset tonight..

LOVE this place, the food and service are amazing! The best negroni in Manchester and the truffle pasta is to die for. Thank you Daniela for your fantastic service as always! One of my favourite ever restaurants and trust me I've been to a lot!!

A comida é boa, porém o atendimento deixou a desejar. Optei pelo restaurante por ter o sobrenome da família e fiquei chateada com o atendimento.

They brought our food with a long distance, even though we had ordered at the same time, and the food was not hot at all. After finishing the meal, they came to our table too many times and made us very uncomfortable with their looks, as if they just wanted to throw us out. I don't recommend at all.

What a great the food was delicious and the service was 10 0ut of 10. Thank you we will be back soon

Well, maybe I don't know what Italian food taste like. I am sorry for the harsh words I'm going to use now! Food taste really bad starting with bruschetta and finishing with pasta carbonara Service also was super bad. I think that the shopping mall window must be covered by something more pleasant for an eye. I don't recommend to anyone this place!!!
