Chutneys in North Dorset

The worst Indian I have ever had. My husband had the jalfasi it was So hot he couldn’t eat it, he said it was hotter than any vinduloo he ever tasted. We were so rushed. Felt sorry for the next table friend a little late,were told the table was booked for 8 o’clock they were rushing there food. Customer service certainly was zero. Visited many Indian restaurant over the years this has to be the worst.

We didn't go we had food for 6 delivered. A mixture of mains and side dishes. We live about 25 mins away but the food was delivered still hot enough to not require re-heating and was enjoyed by us all

This is a comfortable and friendly restaurant which always makes an effort to cater for my onion allergy ! Not an easy ask in an Indian restaurant ! The good is always good and the staff are friendly. Will definitely go back!

Just finished a superb light dinner in my favourite Indian Restaurant in the UK. Top nosh is beautifully served by friendly staff at bargain prices. It’s wonderful value and I really don’t know how they do it.

Food tasted ok, but the following day all of us had dodgy stomachs...second time we have tried this place, and the same thing happened then....massively overpriced too for the size of the portions....never again..We use Aroma usually but it is closed on a Tuesday and it was a birthday treat so we reluctantly went there.

Missing parts of order and poor quality ingredients very disappointing compared to a few years ago, will go somewhere else next time

Chutneys offers a good dining experience, but also an excellent take away. Fresh flavours, great options and a quick service.

Excellent! Good service. Fab food-some of the best curry we’ve ever had. Would highly recommend. You need to book, we were the “second sitting” on a Saturday and the restaurant was full.

We had a really enjoyable meal at Chutneys. The food was delicious, with lots of flavour. The staff were friendly and attentive.

Anywhere as busy as this that accepts unbooked solo guests on a Friday night has much going for it. Add that the meal was an assemblage from across the menu (and one item that isn't on it!) to be delivered together and it gets better. The food was fresh, hot, and delicious, and there wasn't any attempt to turn the table quickly, even though it was heaving with people. I'd certainly recommend it especially given all those constraints.

We were a group of 3 out for a birthday meal and had a great night. The food was absolutely delicious and backed up by friendly, attentive service.

Ordered a meal for my daughter's 17th birthday. Took 2 hours to get delivered as they had to recook it, due it being delivered to the wrong address and the person being dishonest. It was rectified and we all enjoyed the food. The manager and delivery guy was very apologetic. Would I order again? Yes I would.

Enjoyed an outstanding meal at this popular Indian restraunt. It was packed out by 7pm which shows it must be popular with the locals. The waiting staff couldn't have been more attentive. The food was as close to perfect as I have tried anywhere else in the country. Deep, rich, full flavours, cooked by a kitchen team that knew what they were doing. Not overly expensive and very clean. I would go back. Mr Curry.

Came in one night a few weeks ago after travelling from Wales to visit a family friend and ordered a take away from Chutneys as it was recommended to me. The Garlic Naan i recieved seemed all well until i spotted the colourful fingerprints imprinted in my food from the chef!!! I was revolted and ended up throwing it away and being hungry that night. My chicken Korma was horrible tasting and not freshly cooked which was a shock to me and i have eaten many kormas everytjme i travel. Extremely disgusted and should have gone to the other Indian Restaurant Aroma but was too late and my money was already spent.

Chutney's is always a great place to eat. The varied menu is delivered consistently so once you find dishes you like you can always count on them next time. Efficient, no-nonsense service every time. Our table of friends were well looked after and everyone enjoyed their food.

Lovely food. Best naan breads. Nice atmosphere and service. Evening meal with old friends who we hadn't seen for ages thanks to lockdowns and covid. We all agreed Chutneys was an excellent choice

Obviously a very popular Indian restaurant. We arrived at 6.30 ( the only reservation time we could get ) on a Friday. It was very busy and we were shown our table for 4 very quickly. As the whole meal was quick, because unbeknown to us, our table had to be vacated by 8pm!. We had to rush our meal and drinks towards that time deadline. good food, obvioulsly popular but crowded and rushed. Not very relaxing

Fantastic food, if you want something more than most Indian restaraunts , then Chutneys is for you. I have been here a few and have never been disappointed. Great food, reasonably priced, good service.

We decided on a Chutneys take away to celebrate a special occasion. Nearly £60 ordered, had to chase the delivery and then found a rather significant (size of a teaspoon) sharp bone, which was well hidden and subsequently got lodged in the roof of my husbands mouth. I emailed almost immediately but still no reply 4 days later.. very disappointing.

A brilliant curry, one of the best curry’s I’ve had across the UK, let alone in the sleepy town of Shaftesbury. A must visit on the culinary tour of Dorset. Great food, great drink offers; however sadly no buckets of vindaloo offered. ICH.

My wife and I have been eating from Chutney’s for years, and never have we had a negative experience. Food is always hot, fresh and delicious, and service always comes with manners and friendliness. It is the best Indian restaurant in Shaftesbury and to be honest, for many miles around.

Have paid several visits to Chutneys over the last 6 years. Staff are accommodating when requesting a particular table. Professional service, with attentive and helpful waiters. The food is a cut above the average. A classy Indian restaurant. Will return.

To say we were disappointed wasn’t with the food or service, the social distancing at the table I feel was spot on considering the space they have to work with. It was let down by morons who think they are exempt from wearing masks standing at the bar waiting to be seated blocking exit for people leavingEither make them wear a mask of make them wait outside, it not rocket science, if somebody stood there an lit a cigarette you would soon be on them, Let alone think of your patrons safety think of your own and your family. I order the same takeaway dishes every time Saag Balti King Prawn, mushroom rice, saag Bhaji, tarka Dahl all with extra garlic and fresh coriander, which the chef is always happy to do for me, this meal is absolutely delicious and faultless every time!!! When I do eat in the restaurant from time to time, all the staff are so courteous, obliging and well informed and as I said previously the dishes that I have tried which are many are always absolutely delicious and perfect. A wonderful treat that is always affordable. Thank you x

We had 1 night in Shaftesbury and booked into Chutney's... wow! The most authentic, fresh, vibrant, beautilfully-presented, generous, and mouth-wateringly-succulent curries we've tasted in the UK, and fresh, recognisable veg and salads! Service was outstanding, and we'd travel the 2.5hrs from home to re-visit any time. 100% recommend.

Since moving to Shaftesbury three years ago we have regularly had takeaways for here. So for a treat we booked a table.Although our takeaways have always been lovely to eat in the restaurant made their food wonderful. The staff were really nice and accomadating to. We will definitely be eating at the restaurant more often.Highly recommend.

During lockdown we got several take-away meals from Chutney's, as the food is delicious, but it's not the same as going to the restaurant itself and enjoying the atmosphere and service of some charming staff. There's a great range of dishes, all very tasty, and we do enjoy the Indian beers to accompany our food. A regular choice for us!

Having recently moved from Salisbury more towards to Shaftesbury it was time to find a new takeaway spot...My wife typically isn't fond of Indian food but for some reason fancied it tonight and I can't turn down an opportunity to eat it as I love it !!Found Chutneys on Google and boy were we impressed !!Delicious, even my non Indian food loving wife loved it.

Sells itself, doesn’t need my help- As a restaurant it achieves a plurality unmatched by most. From locals collecting takeaways, to those celebrating a special occasion, right through to people who chose this beautiful corner of the world for their second home, or even to hide from the paparazzi- Chutney’s is the choice for one and all. Recently transformed by ‘Lockdown’ as they finally offered local delivery! As a business they never needed to do so, as customers travel far and wide for their offering- but please keep this on for the locals as we recover! Incredible food, fairly priced and served with pride by wonderful staff. Keep it up

Had takeaway tonight seekh kebab starter average flavour nothing spectacular main coarse Mumbai style duck omg it is awful meat over cooked and dry sauce in discharge was lmore like a paste than sauce it was truely dreadfull food couldn’t eat it a total waste of money

I went here on a Saturday evening with my fiancée for a pre-theatre meal. It is not the first time we have eaten at Chutneys and it will probably not be the last. We were led to table for two at the rear of the restaurant which was situated between two other tables, both seating 4 people.The tables were so close together that throughout our meal the waiting staff bumped my elbow or clipped my chair with their feet when serving the adjacent diners. When the other diners arrived one man on the other table brushed my plate of poppadoms with his jacket when he removed it.I really wasn't happy about this... not his fault it is the table placement.The tables are far too close together and it served to make our experience feel claustrophobic and noisy. I also felt that we were a little rushed.I can't criticise the food, our meals were very good but this particular visit has made e wary about the what table I am offered next time I visit and I would be quite prepared to walk out if I am led to the same table as this particular evening.If you are a couple wanting a quiet romantic meal then be prepared for not being satisfied.The best tables are the ones at the front of the restaurant at the far end opposite the reception counter. Visited here last following reviews on this website. Starters of prawn puree and chicken pakoras were excellent. However my partners korma was extremely bland and my bhuna and mushroom bhaji disappointing

We were taken by friends and were impressed. The menu was varied and the food when it arrived delicious, there were clean plated all round for our party of four. The service throughout was friendly and efficient even though the place was full and the food arrived promptly. The decor was relaxing and seating comfortable. Altogether a good evening and I would happily recommend to anyone.

What a treat. 24 of us came to celebrate my mum's 90th birthday and what an amazing array of dishes they served up. All the food arrived at the right time and what great flavours. One of the best Indian restaurants I've been to. Sherborne, you are lucky to have Chutney's.

Last day of the holiday and the Mrs fancied a curry. The reviews were enough to make us drive for 30 means past 3 other curry houses and boy was it worth it. The Mrs had a simple korma that was in her words yummy and I had the curried lamb shank something iv never had before but was fantastic. Wish we had found this place earlier on

A significant day and i chose to eat here - my wife has never been to an Indian restaurant before and took some convincing but it was my day and my choice so 3 of us went. Everything was superb and we all enjoyed some of the best Indian food i have ever had with the most proactive and unobtrusive service. We even have a convert so likely will be there again soon hopefully !

My husband and I only moved to the area a few months ago and we have visited Chutney on either a Monday on our own or Tuesday with friends for the past few weeks.

We love curry and have been to most locally. I had madrass and my wife had a dish called puki. Both great dishes, well priced and authentic.

I've never understood why Chutneys get such good reviews. It's always OK but never anything special.

We dined here one evening on the recommendation of the B and B we were staying at. What a recommendation! This was, without a doubt, the best Indian restaurant we have visited. Really comfortable, efficient and helpful service and absolutely superb cuisine. Our food - the sea-bass for my wife and the lamb curry dish for me- was the best Indian food we have tasted. Outstanding! Wonderful! Such excellent value for money. We will certainly return if we are in the area. Not to be missed!

We went without reservation to Chutneys on a Saturday evening and were one of the first guests to arrive. They still had a table for us and were presented with the menu. There was a lot of choice and the restaurant caters for everyone from in-house dining to take-away and from mild to very spicy. We picked our choices and were not disappointed. Mid-way through our sitting the restaurant was completely full. Quality of the food was excellent and quite reasonably priced.

We come to Chutneys as a family frequently and the service and food is always outstanding. Always busy but the staff are always able to squeeze us in. the staff are very friendly, and they welcome you with a very genuine smile. The service is quick. Whenever I come here I order the Chicken Tikka masala and it always tastes great. I have visited other Indian restaurants in the area but none of them are able to compete with the standard of Chutneys.

Meal was fine, the menu is more varied than a standard Indian ,especially the starters which offer fish options , I had squid with chilli.

We popped into the very busy restaurant (good sign) to see if there was a table free. Luckily we were told yes in half an hour. Brilliant news! We popped to a local pub for a drink and returned for a lovely meal.

Visited on the off chance and were very lucky that they were able to squeeze us in. It was very busy and deservedly so. Service was quick and friendly but most importantly the food was incredible. I had a Sobzi Badami, which was rich, luxurious and full of cashews. My partner had a Paneer Makanwala and said that the cheese was cooked to perfection. Chutneys is about 25 miles from us but we have both agreed that we will make the effort to go again.

Nearly walked past this restaurant but thought we'd try it and so pleased we did. Poppadums and chutneys were very fresh and tasty. However our main dishes were chosen from the chef's specialities and they were exceptionally delicious: naranga - chicken stuffed with spinach plus a king prawn dish. Take my tip and don't walk past!

Having read that this restaurant was one of the best in the best, we decided to give it a go and we are so glad we did. From melt in the mouth onion bhajis to aromatice lemon rice, soft fluffy nann bread and delicious mains - everything was top notch. It was so good went again two days later! Initially worried we might have overhyped it to ourselves, we were not disppointed and out second visit was equally as good as the first. In some ways I am glad we do not live nearer or I think we would be in there all the time!!

My partner and I had read up about Chutneys and decided to combine a visit to the restaurant during our stay at Motcombe. We arrived with our 2 year old daughter just as they opened their doors at 5.30. The service was fantastic and their interaction with our daughter ( who wasn’t so enthusiastic about going to a restaurant and would have preferred to have stayed at Monkey World) was second to none. The food was absolutely delicious, we shared a mixed starter and I opted for the tandoori mixed grill. My partner was recommended a chefs favourite from the grill and he was far from disappointed too. The next time we are near we will definitely call again.

Chutneys used to be the best Indian restaurant for miles around. It was consistently good. But something has gone wrong. On our recent visit, our food was mediocre, to say the least. The starters were bland and overcooked. The main courses were 'ordinary' - not what we expect from this restaurant. We mentioned this to the waiter and he replied that 'other people had said that too.'

Had excellent meal here last night. Service was extremely good and the staff very polite. We have visited here on several occasions taking friends and it is always extremely good.

Wonderfully prepared Indian cuisine in a clean and tidy establishment in Shaftesbury, perfect for an authentic Indian meal.

My friend and I were visiting Shaftesbury for a couple of days and noticed Chutneys and thought we would give it ago .... we were so glad we did , the food was very good and the staff were very friendly.... even providing my friend with some glasses to read the wine list ..... if I’m ever that way again I will definitely pay them anothe visit

I have been eating at Chutneys for years and I have always had excellent service and food.

Poppadoms were stale, and not freshly cooked; chicken curry was worse than a Tesco Finest (which I would've enjoyed more), the curry sauce lukewarm and very gluey in texture, as though heated in microwave; the rice was not hot enough; the house red wine was watery.

The lamb rogan josh and chicken korma are always sooo good and today it was the best yet! Will be back again next week. Thank you.

It was a Saturday night and we had not booked. They said they didn't have a free table but as we said OK and walked out one of the waiter's came after us saying they have a free table until 9pm. Not once did we feel rushed. The food was fab and the service was very good. Would I go back? Yes I would.

Well where to start, fantastic services , food was absolutely fantastic. The menu has so much choice, very busy a really family restaurant. I can not recommend this establishment any more highly. Please visit you wil not be disappointed
