Once The Roshni this friendly curry house has the same people in charge producing tasty dishes. After couple of beers in Westbury's fine Victoria pub there is always the decision to go 'left' or 'right', or even 'far right' as you hit the high street for a curry. Of the two establishments next door to each other, The Roshni (right) was always our choice. When it closed we were perturbed but re-opening as The Chutney Chowk with a very slight refurb - almost imperceptible, actually - has done it no harm. Same friendly welcome and unpretentious range of tasty fayre. Initially the change meant it was BYO, but it now seems to have a licence.

4 of us visited on a Wednesday night only as the place next door was closed. It started badly as the pappadoms were soft. The starter of broken up samosa and chick peas was lacking in any sort of flavour and arrived before we had finished our pappadoms. Our main courses arrived without rice and sat on the table without a hot plate while they got it. It had obviously been forgotten. The curries were passable ,just ,but were lacking in any depth of flavour after the initial chilli hit All in all I cannot see this place surviving long unless they sort out the service and the food.

My wife and I visited this restaurant with a couple that eat out alot and are very fussy about the quality of their currys, and was delighted to find that the food was topdraw. Highly reccomend the Masala Aloo Dosa and the Chicken Achri....delicious! A first for me with BYO booze, but I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. To add to this review, I'm back here Sunday night picking up a take away with the same dish I had the other night as I wanted to experience the amazing flavours again. Many thanks again Chutney Chowk

45 minute wait for a takeaway when only 2 tables in the restaurant. Some food ordered not available. Food ok but not spectacular

I've been really impressed with the quality of the food time and time again (been several times now since it opened). It's a pared-down menu, focusing on quality, and offering a lot of dishes that you don't often find in typical Indian restaurants. Stand-outs for me are the light and fluffy dosas, the Mini Masala Uttappam starter and the range of thalis (the nawari kebab thali with bhoti kebab and chicken banjara in particular). All the staff are really friendly and welcoming (especially Mr Khan, of course). It really does feel like the food is front and centre, and rightly so, rather than just somewhere to go and carry on drinking after the pub (as some city centre curry houses are). Being BYO probably adds to that feeling (and makes you feel pleasantly surprised at the bottom line on the bill too).

Wide ranging menu including classic fare such as bhunas and dopiazas with some intersting thalis and a couple of dosas ensuring an extensive range of indian cuisine is covered and all at reasonable prices. The byob option also makes for good value. The food was well put together and not greasy and oily as some curries can be. A couple of hghlights - the naan bed had excallent texture and there was a mean lime chutney. There was great service too.

What a relief, we have a great Indian restaurant back in the village. We popped here on Friday after a quick beer and had some really lovely food. Sultan the owner is such a friendly guy as well, sure to inspire people to come back...

The bar staff I can only give 5 stars as they worked incredibly hard. The pint of Gem also gets 5 stars... so why a 4 star rating? Because the place is full of Student Grants (if you're old enough to remember Viz when it was funny) and unfortunately they're 2024 versions, so they're very self-entitled. Apart from that, a nice place.

Best dirty chai latte I've ever had, and my girlfriend's americano was really smooth and tasty.

We've lived in Knowle for a couple of years and not yet tried this place. Decided to give it a go and we weren't disappointed. We had a selection of about 6 dishes including Crispy Duck Pancakes, Prawns with Cashew nuts, Noodles with Beef & Peppers in Black Bean Sauce, Special Chop Suey, Stir Fried Mixed Veg, Egg Fried Rice and Prawn Crackers. All the dishes were hot, fresh, and generous sized portions. The Prawn Crackers were super crispy. And they threw in a free portion of popcorn chicken too. Overall I'd say the quality is very good and we easily fed four people for £45 all in so great value. I'll definitely eat from here again.
