Chom Chom in Canterbury

This Chinese take away offers a ridiculous customer service where the staff are indifferent to whether you place an order with them or not.The Deliveroo app for some reason was not working so I tried to order food with them on Sunday evening and spoke to three different members of staff one saying they didn't take orders over the phone, another member of staff I was passed over to told me they couldn't tell me if we did come in person to order food how long we would wait for the food to be ready, possibly over an hour and the next member of staff told me they weren't even taking orders at all and it was only 8 p.m. I found it very hard to understand from any of the staff what the problem was and clearly they were closing in an hour and certainly were not interested in taking my food order even though it was over £70. I asked to speak to the Manager but was told he wasn't working on Sunday and although I wasn't rude they actually hung up on me. I would love to leave a review for the food but unfortunately didn't even get that far after being on the phone for over 15 minutes, such a frustrating waste of time with staff that just don't care!

Very good buffet restaurant. Visited early evening on a Sunday, whilst we were looking for somewhere to dine during our visit to Canterbury. The meal for two with drinks was less than £44.00, given the quality of the food we thought it represented excellent value, would definitely eat here again when next in the city,

Food was okay, was a lot better before they put the prices up. Went there today and it cost nearly £50 for 2 of us, that’s only for the buffet, we got a glass of tap water each. Staff didn’t want to be there it seemed either. Won’t be coming again as they continuously increase the price.

I'm not going to be returning, my partner was ill the following day. The food was mediocre at best and the desserts were frozen. Very expensive for what it was, ordering a delivery would have been cheaper and better quality.

Disappointed with this restaurant. I went for lunch time buffet. It use to be so much better. The food was warm NOT hot. The waiter didn't explain about the buffet and that some food can cooked by a chef with ingredients that you choose near the buffet. He really didn't say much at all. There wasn't any chef cooking when we arrived no one was there but did notice a lot of waiters chatting amongst themselves. My tummy was not good the next day after eating here, I had s&d quite bad and I only had food from Choms Choms the before. Sad to say but I won't recommend this restaurant anymore and I won't be back again.

Me and my stepson had lunch here today was a really lovely atmosphere, food was delicious, clean and tidy struggled a little with communication with staff but friendly the freshly cooked noodles was great really tasty definitely be back 😋 👌 😊

This place is a joke, how it is still open it is beyond me I became very sick after eating here so be careful and eat here at your own risk

We went to this buffet at lunch time on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy, it had a nice selection of chinese and indian dishes and you could have fresh noodles and naan breads made to order. The price is well worth it as the food is good quality and tasty. Would definitely recommend.

Made a reservation weeks ago to have our Christmas eve meal here, and have just shown up to the restaurant being closed. No call or email to let is know, nit very good service really!

Food is better than before now. Recommended

It was quite busy on Saturday when we went. Plenty of food though and no long waits. We started off with crispy duck pancakes.yummy. Then went on to mixed seafood with noodles. I also tried the lamb curry, it was absolutely divine . After a breather I had some vanilla ice cream. Really enjoyed myself. There were 16 of us altogether , with no complaints from anyone. Well worth the money charged and the staff all mucked in and helped where ever they were needed.

Scrummy food and eat as much as you like. Although that's not always a good thing 🤭

Whilst the food was very good it went cold very quickly as the plate warmer was not on. There are a variety of curry's to choice from and I like to cold food bar where you put on a plate what you want cooked and it is them brought to your table. The atmosphere was a bit dull, but then it was a lunch time. However I found the staff to be responsive and pleasant when spoken to. I think the next time I come here is will be with friends, which I think will make it a more enjoyable experience.

This place hasn’t changed in quite a few years. Its good value for money as most buffets are. No music or atmosphere almost eerie sat in there with one other couple. The staff didn’t really explain how it works. The food is good, lack of vegetarian options.

Located behind the Former Wilko store at the City centre Canterbury, you can also Use the Halifax bank as a land mark to locate it. It is a place you should visit with family and friends for a nice eat-out.

Really enjoyed the food here and the service was really good with clearing plates and serving drinks. You can request naan breads and create fresh noodle dishes made to order. Bit of a hidden gem really!

We celebrated my son's birthday at Chom Choms in Canterbury on 25th August 2024 at 1.30pm, it was an great experience! Our group of seven enjoyed a fantastic lunchtime meal with a great selection of delicious dishes that catered to everyone's preferences. The highlight of the day was when the staff took our birthday cake, lit the candles, and brought it out for us—such a thoughtful touch that made the celebration even more special. The service was outstanding, with friendly and attentive staff who ensured everything was perfect. Clean premises and toilets. Chom Choms is the ideal place for a memorable celebration. Highly recommend!

Great selection of potatoes. I've never had potatoes in sweet and sour before. The mystery fish thing is nice. Now it's 3 in the morning and I'm still eating this food. Left them multiple missed calls and to my message they reply nothing because it was out of business hours

It’s fine for a varied eating experience. The food should perhaps be replaced quicker (it was Saturday evening) but the quality was more or less reasonable.

Decided to go to Chom Chom mid week for an anniversary meal as we had been before. When we arrived we were seated just after 7 but the restaurant was full of teenagers around 30 with teachers. Chom Chom offer student discount and we should have left but didn't and decided to eat as was getting late. The students were loud and out of control and it ruined our evening, we couldnt even talk to each other. As I said we should have left seeing that many students but didn't and if your looking to book maybe check first. We won't be returning.

I went to ChomChom's tonight because my friends recommended it and it was absolute bomb ! the mr whippy ice cream machine was the cherry on top. The young waiters were very professional and provided very good service. What a banger this place is ! I 100% would recommend. Shoutout to Buk Lou, Nuk Lou and Puk Lou for the service.

Staff are nice and the food that is on offer is decent, could be more options of foods that are available as there are missing items including more options of Chinese options and on my visit there was no "non-spicy" Curry's in option. Toilets could do with some work as the step up to the sit down toilets in the men's bathroom is quite a step up and could be a problem for individuals with mobility issues. Staff are friendly and helpful as much as they can.

Just eaten here and disappointed is an understatement. Saturday night they usually have a full choice of foods. Most of the food was on offer but slow to refill, and the food was extremely salty. Even the people on the table next to us said the same. Hardly any variety in puddings and the ice cream machine has 2 bottles of sauce only, no extra toppings like they used to. Come on chom choms sort it out!

Most of the food are not fresh. They really smell bad and the fizzy drinks are too expensive

Discovered by chance. Good buffet, wide selection and well presented. Clean and food kept hot with covers, not always the case. Staff pleasant. Atmosphere lacking but we did eat early and there were only three other customers. Very good value for money at under £20 each.

Sadly have had to edit this review as we attempted to return and was told that as I was disabled I was not allowed!! I was told my Assistance Dog wasn't welcome and given a list of excuses from some people are allergic, they serve food and some people don't like dogs. I was told I was allowed to eat if I tied her up OUTSIDE! This breaks the Equality Act of 2010 and Disability Discrimination Guidance of 2020. When I calmly tried to show him ID and government guidance regarding ADs he claimed I didn't know what I was talking about (I am a specialist in disability access and adaptions). He even laughed at me when he arrogantly claimed I was wrong. It also is against the law and entirely irresponsible to leave a dog unattended in a public place so for him to even make this suggestion is disgusting. I am so hurt that when we had previously had such a good experience the staff decided to abuse my rights in this way. My friend had been coming to this restaurant for over 11 years and we previously had enjoyed it here. It shows how little the staff here really value their customers. * * *THIS IS MY OLD REVIEW. Previously 5* * A great buffet restaurant. We came to celebrate a friend of ours getting a new job and you made for a very relaxed evening. We have 2 wheelchair users in our group and I also need an Assistance Dog. It's been very hard to find a good Chinese restaurant as most refuse us based on our disabilities. We had so many issues in China Town in London we were rather nervous but was greeted with 'of course we are wheelchair accessible and you can bring your assistance dog'. They made sure we were seated in a nice quiet area but still close by to the buffet. The staff were very welcoming and understanding and the food was excellent, they even cook the noodles fresh to order as well. I was visiting friends but will definitely be coming back next time I visit Canterbury. Thank you for making Chinese and Indian food accessible to everyone, it means a lot. **I try to be fair in all my reviews and offer praise when access is good and criticism when it isn't. It is a shame that a local restaurant that I thought was so kind and accepting are in fact the exact opposite now.**

I was walking past and heard them refused to let an assistance dog in. Told the young girl to leave it tied up outside! If you don't know the law don't be in charge of the business. If this is how they behave I won't be going there again. Was going to book it for a big family party! Wont now! Plenty of other places to go where they know the law. All assistance dogs are allowed everywhere except a very few specialist clinics in a few hospitals!

All you can eat including fresh made naan and noodles, plenty of variety and a bonus ice cream machine. Food is well prepared and always kept topped up well. Staff are friendly and not intrusive

FAULTLESS Is the only way to describe this restaurant Value for money without a doubt. Service is impeccable. Very busy for a Monday evening with groups made up from Birthday party diners, couples and families it was a very mixed age group throughout the restaurant from young children to senior citizens Lovely atmosphere made all the better with happy smiling efficent staff. We as a couple dined at 5 and everything was hot tasty and cooked to perfection It was 5 star throuout as far as we were concerned Made all the better with the 25% Discount for the older members of our society. We will definitely be returning when in the area. Thanks for a lovely dining experience.

So I had looked at this restaurant a few times, what’s offered and price and thought it would be worth trying out. I wish I hadn’t bothered 😕 I seriously think we either picked a bad day or the wrong restaurant because this didn’t match the previous reviews or the websites criteria. Extremely disappointed as I haven’t been out for almost 2 years and this was my birthday treat!!! I found the only thing edible was egg fried rice, what’s stated on the website was not available to myself, I had a choice of rice, beef in black bean sauce which looked like it had been sat there for more than the recommended time and clearly hadn’t been temp checked in guidance to food safety standards along with about 6 other dishes!!! The drinks ….I ordered sex on the beach and my partner coke. He didn’t even drink his coke as it tasted clinical so cleaning fluid still in the pipes. My cocktail was bland and just a mess as it didn’t look presentable or taste drinkable. For what we paid I think this is diabolical!!! I’m gutted not even a chow mein available!!! I wish I’d taken photos to compare. Seriously would never come back her even if I was paid. Wouldn’t even give it a 1⭐️but needed to do it for feedback.

Good food, you have a lot of options mostly meat, chips, rice, and ice cream. A friend introduced me to this place. It is recommended but watch out you may gain some weight!

Has gone down hill in recent months

Lovley and clean, very busy and decently priced. A good selection of foods, all well cooked and good quality. For me, they could have more options than just machiene ice cream and possibly better table settings but overall its a very good place, would recommend.

Best all you can eat I've been to. Nice selection of dishes and they were all of a good quality. The service was fantastic and the beer was good. It is a little on the pricey side but you pay for what you get. The seating area is nice and spacious so you're not sitting on top of each other and it is clean and tidy. Would highly recommend it if you are in the city looking for somewhere to eat .

Went as a group of 8 on Friday 22 December 23. The food was very good,hot and a good selection. Not the cheapest all you can eat for the price. What let's the restaurant down is the atmosphere. The decor needs improvement and no table covers. Linen table cloth with paper over the top would suit. Staff very friendly and didn't rush you.

Food was absolutely disgusting. Lukewarm, not enjoyable at all, spoke to manager who said they won’t refund full price for us. We had barely touched the plate! Avoid at all costs.

I recently visited Chom Chom with my family and we had a pleasant experience. Upon arrival, we were informed that they didn't have a veg buffet available that day. However, the staff at Chom Chom kindly offered us the option of ordering from their Indian veg food menu. We decided to give it a try and we were pleased with the taste and authenticity of the Indian dishes we ordered. The staff members were incredibly humble and kind throughout our visit, which added to our overall satisfaction. In terms of pricing, we found it to be reasonable considering the location. Another great advantage was the availability of free parking at Waitrose, where we were able to park for 1-1/2 hours. Overall, the experience at Chom Chom was enjoyable and we appreciate their efforts to accommodate our dietary preferences.

It's self service but there is always someone to help. Sometimes they are slow to refill the most popular dishes. There is a limited and frankly poor choice of deserts but the ice-cream machine is fun. Overall Good value and good food.

After reading some of the poor reviews we were unsure whether to try this restaurant. We're so glad we did. Whilst there wasn't a massive selection on the buffet, what was available was absolutely amazing. The flavours of both the indian and chinese dishes were fantastic. Staff were also very helpful and attentive and refilled the buffet selection when asked. Highly recommend this restaurant. We will definitely be back

There is very few items to choose from, and what there is available it’s pretty boring. The noodle counter was nice, and the chef comes out and cooks it to your liking. The bowls at the item machine was so dirty I had no choice but to have a cone. And the cake section was so meh, was rather dry and again boring. The overall cleanliness of the place was bad, typical stained chairs and dirty cutlery/ plates and bowls.

Arrived at approx 1730 on a Friday and got a plate of food that was average to taste and limited in variety. About 15 mins later approximately 40/50 Chinese children arrived and swiftly cleaned out the buffet like a plague of locasts. The food was not replaced quick enough, even all the cakes were gone and the Ice cream machine also ran out. If the restaurant knew this party was arriving why not lay on extra food and staff. A very bad experience. All our party of people does not recommend this restaurant one bit

Cannot fault this restaurant at all. Food was tasty, plentiful, and lovely and hot. Mixture of Chinese and Indian selection which on a midweek evening I thought was excellent. No complaints from me whatsoever, and I would gladly go back.

Food was OK, some items were rather dry. Customer experience was quite bizarre with man kept coming to take our plates randomly. He really needs to learn to smile as he appeared quite off putting.

Good Asian restaurant. The food tastes fantastic. Recommended for try if you like Asian cuisine. Staffs are humble and friendly. Most of the items are halal. The seafood was well cooked; the chicken items were also delicious.

Chom chom was a ok. But they would be better opening as a take away noodle resteraunt as their noodles were brilliant, everything else was average.

Awful, if I could give one star I would. The selection of food was extremely poor as well as the quality. We ended up leaving hungry. Not only that when we come to pay the bill the staff member walked away with my bank card out of view without asking and put the payment through with contactless. Very unprofessional.

Awful buffet. We were 9 people went there and all of us were terribly disappointed by the item range( only few items), the plate size , the food itself, their service ( the food ran out but they did not fill it up) . The options are so small and some dessert dishes were empty and they just left them like that. They purposely did that. We paid 160 pounds and the food and their service was terrible. It was like daylight robbery. We wouldn’t recommend this even if it was 5 pounds per person. Not worth it at all. Avoid this place.

It's an all you can eat buffet with mainly Asia foods (though there is pizza and ice cream too!). The food was tasty, the environment was welcoming and the service pretty good. Not far from the station and town centre.

Ordered through JustEat. Ordered a butter chicken, it was the completely wrong texture, consistency and did not look like a butter chicken at all. It was very spicy, I order this dish knowing it is mild due to health reasons. I called the restaurant to try and resolve it, however they could not find my order to start with, then was told it was the correct dish, they just added extra spices into the dish, apparently that is how butter chicken is meant to be, I have never had one like that. The man on the other end of the phone tried to hang up on me mid conversation as he obviously couldn't be bothered with me anymore, he argued with me and basically told me I was wrong. Told me there was nothing he could do. This was my first and last time ordering from this restaurant, wouldn't recommend to anyone.
