Chives in Ceredigion

25/1/23 Popped in here for a light lunch and wasn't disappointed. The choice is great (see pictures) and very tasty. I opted for the winter veg soup which was a very generous portion filled with numerous veg and flavoured with ginger and chilli (homemade) together with a cheese and onion toastie followed by a pot of tea (which came with hot water. Yay! The whole lot came to less than a tenner which I thought was a bargain and certainly in line with other establishments in the area. If your in the area and like the personal touch instead of the usual 'grab it and go' that's on offer then I urge you to visit. All the food is delicious. You won't be disappointed. 5⭐

We visited Chives on both days of our recent short break in Aberystwyth and were given a warm welcome by the staff. The sandwiches were excellent and the home made cake delicious. Would highly recommend.

Used to go here regularly when I worked in town; the food was delicious, staff always polite. Today I went back in for old-time's sake, and the person who served me was curt to the point of rudeness. This was following a mistake in my order, which didn't really bother me too much, but the person serving implied I was trying to get a freebie. I left with no food in the end, very upset TBH. Maybe I just caught this person on a bad day, but an apology would have been nice. I've no doubt the food in Chives is still delicious, but I won't be going back there.

Althought the food is ok i would like to point out to everyone who doesnt alreday know this, if you go for extras unless they want to pay a lot more money for each item.You will be asked if you want this and that if you say yes they will be extra charge for each item. Its a way fo trying to make you spend more.I only had a baked potato you should have seen my bill!!it ended up to be a very expensive spud! If i had known every item they were offering to put on the plate was a lot extra i certainly wouldnt have said yes to them. I just wnated to let poeple know this incase they thougth the little extras came with the meal.

Excellent sandwiches and excellent value. Really nice staff, nothing too much trouble. We would be regulars if we lived nearby

Good well presented sandwiches etc, staff quick and efficient, a good pit stop for lunch. We sat outside and enjoyed watching the world go by.

Lovely little place. Had the home made quiche with bean salad on the side - delicious and VERY good value. I'm not a quiche fan, but it was very good. Really friendly, welcoming staff. Thanks

Lovely freshly made and “home cooked” food. Roast vegetable quiche was delicious as are the wide choice of salads. Generous portions, lovely panini is and flavoursome fillings. Would highly recommend a visit - few tables outside so good during COVID 19!

Great to be able to pop into Chives again to pick up something for lunch. Fantastic selection and great value, highly recommended!

This is without doubt the best place to get sandwiches and lunches in Aberystwyth. All sandwiches are made to order on proper locally baked bread. Delicious home made quiches, cakes and a huge selection of salads as well as hot food. Now that Eastgate is closed to traffic you can eat outside (or inside if it is wet). Very clean and I felt completely safe eating here. It is tucked away in Eastgate (which runs parallel) to the main shopping street. Well worth a visit.

I have been coming here on and off since 2004 when I started University. I now live in London but always try and pop back to Chives when I am in Aber. This time I took my fiance and its like nothing has changed! The food is excellent and because it was quiet we ended up having a lovely chat to the lady behind the counter (I think she was the manager's/owner's) daughter.

Back again and a tasty lunch of aubergine quiche and butter beans and rice salad. What particularly attracts me to Chives is the imaginative composition of the fare and the friendly and efficient service. Bwyd gwych diolch

We have stopped for take out sarnies a few times whilst in Aberystwyth. There is so much choice and you always end up buying me something extra because it looks so delicious. Good value for money. Nice people.

I used to visit Chives frequently as a student. I went back to Aberystwyth this weekend and visited Chives immediately - my first time in 5 years! The sandwiches are just as good now as they were 5 years ago. I'd highly recommend the chicken tikka and cheese crunch sandwiches. I visited again before returning home just so I could have them both. Please visit!

Not on the main streets but the food is all homemade and extremely good and the price was amazing! There are only a couple of tables inside, it is mostly takeaway, but we sat in and had a fabulous lunch which included moussaka, cottage pie, quiche and pizza. The range of rolls, sandwiches and panini's is very wide, basically you could have whatever you want! The cakes were delicious too.

Not a big place. Only a few tables.The food, the service and the price are good enogh to que up for.

The owners of Chives were genuinely surprised when I told them I'd found them on TA and had come specifically for one of their toasted pastrami & emmental paninis. What else id there to say other than "delicious".

What can I say - but what a gem. I love the food from here. All homemade. Quiches incredible. Pizzas amazing. Today we stopped in and I had a cuppa and a piece of Victoria Sponge..... wow - it was so light and fluffy and loved the cream and jam.

We usually stop in Aberystwyth on our way to Tenby, but this year we decided that it was time that we spent a little more time here. Arriving at lunchtime we remembered the sandwich shop we had discovered on a previous visit and set out to find it. We are so glad that we did, as we went in on each of the three days that we spent in town. On any level, whether it is the food, the service, or the atmosphere, it just can't be beat. It is rather small, but the two lovely ladies who run the business ensure that everybody has a seat, this results in a terrific friendly feel that only adds to the pleasure. Weather was good in Aberystwyth so we decided to look for somewhere to buy a sandwich. We walked past chives and decided to go in. There is so much choice it's hard work to decide what to have. We had lovely sandwiches and piece of home made quiche. Would definitely return. Friendly service.

Great choices and I chose a panini (quite different from the run-of-the-mill ones)with pastrami, Emmental, sun dried tomatoes, mustard and more. Made before your very eyes. The coffee was good and you leave me wondering when I last enjoyed a sandwich lunch so much. Oh I remember 2 days earlier when I visited Chives for the first time

This busy little takeaway also has a few tables and always seems popular. Sandwiches and salads are freshly prepared and there's also a range of hot dishes - all extremely tasty and excellent value for the quality. Service doesn't always come with a smile when they're busy and a bit stretched but I can forgive that for the lovely food.

This is a family run sandwich bar in Aberystwyth, offering takeaway services as well as a small number of eat-in seats. Run by mother and daughter team, they offer a variesy of sandwiches, pninis, pizzas, home-cooked quiches and baked potatoes with fillings. I've never had a poor meal/service there. Very clean; a friendly service all-round. Long may this type of independent local shop survive.

Absolutely fantastic sandwich bar which also has some lovely desserts, warm food and salads. I always come away with a lovely baguette.

Excellent little gem Aberystwyth has hiding. A vast choice of lunches and snacks to be had and many more if you're feeling experimental. A range of homemade dishes and cakes available daily. Excellent service always from the owners - always a smile on their faces.

Soy un habitual visitante/walker a Aberystwyth este pequeño café almuerzo me fue recomendado y no nos decepcionó. Hemos comprado comida muchas veces la comida siempre es excelente y la calidad consistente. Excelente variedad de pizzas frescas caseras, quiches (que son impresionantes) y amplia selección de ensaladas. Un montón de opciones vegetarianas, todo servido con personal encantador y amable. Te recomiendo que visite si en la zona.

Encontramos este pequeño llevar/comer en restaurante por suerte, una amplia variedad de buena comida y personal amable. No sólo un bar de bocadillos y otros muchos alimentos frescos para comer en el restaurante o para llevar. Si estás en Aberystwyth no te pierdas esta joya. Encuentra un no. 2 Northgate - Aparcamiento exterior coche hasta media hora.

Este es un gran lugar para comer o para llevar. Hacen maravillosa pizzas frescas y quiches así como carnes frescas y ensaladas. Hay un amplio surtido de panes o comida de distancia en cajas. El personal es muy amable y nunca mi almuerzo en otro lugar cuando en la ciudad

Lovely home made food, sandwiches made to order. My son hated sandwiches, but they happily made him a pot of egg mayonnaise with sausage, and cut the sausage into small rounds & arranged them around the edges of the pot to suit him.

He probado la mayoría de los cafés y cafeterías de Aber sobre unos años y tropezamos con cebollino siguiendo su señal. Encontramos una enorme selección de relleno delicioso recién hecho para complementar una excelente pan fresco hecho blanco y marrón, baguettes y panini. Alegre el servicio amable y servicial. Un amigo local dijo después de que habíamos encontrado la mejor, y no de acuerdo!

You can sit down at Chives (although I never have) but if you want an excellent lunch to eat at home (or at a meeting) it is hard to fault this establishment. Perhaps it is a little expensive but worth it (specially like the hot panini).

Fabulous range of salads, quiches and cakes - all 'real food'! I'd eat here every day if I could. I didn't try the sandwiches, but this is a little gem of place - you're lucky if you get a table. Take away food - especially for vegetarians - at its best :) !! Look forward to visiting Aber again! Friendly staff - always a plus!

I had the most delicious chicken and stuffing baguette, brilliant value for money and the staff there were tremendous. Would recommend if you fancy a light lunch around Aberystwyth.

We visited for a light lunch and had to spend ages reading the menu trying to decide what to have in our baguette as the choice was so big. There was also a nice selection of home made quiche to choose from.The rolls were fresh and the filling was of a good portion.Really enjoyed the food and reasonably priced as well.Would happily eat from here again.

Didn't find this little gem of a sandwich shop until the day before we left Aber but made sure our last two lunches were from here! Lovely little shop, clean and beautifully presented, and when you step in the amount of choice of freshly made paninis, toasties, rolls, sandwiches and baguettes is absolutely amazing! Everything is freshly made to your request and there is just so much choice it is brilliant.Sandwiches are delicious and the staff are really helpful and friendly. I would recommend this shop to anyone because it was the nicest little sandwich shop in the whole of town, I would love to come back again soon if I am in the area and wish you all the best at the shop - you run a great shop!

I use Chives a lot for paninis, lasagne and cakes! They are great for lunch take away and have a wide selection of sandwiches, baguettes and paninis on offer. Highly recommended and friendly service.

Lovely loively baguettes here and also had a few buffets done from here and always extremely yummy and freshly prepared. Always good food

This sandwich shop has an incredible choice of sandwiches (potentially a little overwhelming menu, maybe), choice of bread, all for a good price. They also serve salads, quiches etc. You can eat in but I have always done take away. The eat in area is quite cosy but it seems fine if you're just having lunch. Lovely staff who are also very efficient even when it is really busy.They will also do catering for events but I have never experienced that.Clean surroundings, tasty food and good value for money.
