Chip Ahoy in Fife

We were really disappointed with the takeaway fish and chips from here. At £12.50 a supper we were expecting fresh tasty fish however, mine was completely saturated in salt so it was almost inedible whilst my husband said his had no flavour. The gravy and tomato sauce was watered down with vinegar too. I think you need to go to Anstruther or Crail to get the really fresh fish.

Looking for langostines & they had them. Very disappointed once we started eating them. The were very dry, sometimes the leg didn’t even have meat in it. They served old seafood. The mussels & the hamburger were the only good meal items. The starter, prawn cocktail, was good. Ultimately, though, the haddock & the langostines were disappointing. The server was pleasant but not overly helpful. Had to ask for anything you need, including sugar when getting tea. Probably should have gone to Dory down the street.

We stopped off for fish & chips after a swim in the tidal pool. What a treat it was - the lady who looked after us was just lovely, giving us a big table & welcoming our little dog & making sure she had a drink & a treat. Good choice from the menu but we chose haddock & chips which was lovely. Such a lovely atmosphere with the pub bar in the restaurant too, but the standout point was the incredible hospitality, thank you so much, we'll definitely visit again.

Went in this place on Sunday afternoon, just after 2pm just enquiring if they were still making filled rolls, and this rude individual approached me without saying hello, calling me laddie I'm a 50 year old man!! very unfriendly, saying I was too late for a filled roll and that his place was a restaurant, shouldn't state he does filled rolls then if he doesn't! and what I needed was a cafe. To be totally truthful I have detected some kind of racism from this individual, because as he was speaking to me, he doing hand gestures showing me the door as if he didn't want my custom or even in his shop That is one place I will never set foot in again, maybe some manners need to learned by this man.

Had a few prossecos on Thursday and pints of Guinness chatted with the owner allan while we had our drinks , very plausible we decide to get some fritters which were great yes been in here loads and will be back when we visit pittenweem.

What a lovely find, we stopped in to warm up after a long walk - try the Cullen skink, it’s absolutely excellent!

Warm dog friendly cafe. With beautiful paintings of local scenes on the wall, to add to the atmosphere.

Nice place.. have eaten there before and have been happy with the quality in the past.. but when I recently went the scallops were not fresh.. although nicely presented they were not worth 25 pound.. aside from that, the service is lovely and it’s a nice wee place for lunch… might try it once more in the hope it was just an unlucky day…👍

Arrived at night and had no service on my phone Alan let me hook up to his internet so that I was able to call the owners of the airbnb I was staying at got me into the unit. Really went above and beyond helping me. I have no hesitation in giving this place 5 stars. Magic people all the staff especially the owners Alan and Leslie.

Had used the takeaway chippy, earlier in our stay in Pittenweem, for chips to go with our meal back at rental cottage. Last night of our holiday decided to call in, after day out, for meal as "dog friendly". Not busy, got table for four, dog offered treat and bowl of water. Food was good, brother and his wife had the Balmoral chicken which they said was good but veg were cold; my wife had two starters - mussels & a crab dish, again good; I had main course mussels & chips again good, but served with a slice of plain white bread, a more rustic type of bread / baguette would have been great to dip up the sauce. Service was excellent. Only ourselves and another couple in restaurant so very little atmosphere. Good pint of Belhaven Best.

Shockingly bad Ordered the langoustines, scallops, smoked mackerel and chips all to come at the same time as eating altogether as a family. Scallops were served with haggis and bread. Scallops were still sandy haggis was under cooked bread was stale. Langoustines served with garlic butter and oatcakes. Over cooked and god only knows what the garlic butter was more like runny dyed cream that stained everyone’s mouth yellow. Smoked mackerel was decent but no chips, peas or tartar sauce as described on the menu. Chips were very undercooked. Serving staff were pleasant until I mentioned the undercooked chips and lack of sides for mackerel. Cooking staff looked scruffy and unkept. If your going to be serving and charging decent prices you need to get it right, total disrespect to the beautiful seafood on your doorstep.

My friend and I went here for dinner when up for a few days. We really enjoyed the food. I had sea bass which was delicious and my friend had the fish and chips. We would both highly recommend. Staff and service was excellent.

We ate here with family on a couple of occasions when we were staying in Elie on holiday recently. The fish suppers were unbelievable. Great service too and dog friendly. The dog was even brought a wee treat. We'll definitely be back to eat here when we visit the area again

Got a mediocre fish supper to takeaway. Very disappointed chips were bland fish was very small all for a princely sum of £15 ( fish supper was £12.50 so can only assume tub of ketchup was £2.50) will never use again.

Had takeaway fish’n’chips which was lovely and very fresh. Really have to mention the very lovely and helpful young guy that served us - he also cooked the food. He couldn’t have been more polite or helpful. Would definitely recommend

Dropped by for afternoon tea. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Service was good.

The Fish and Chips were ok, but as we got a Pensioners portion it was a bit on the small side. We were £19 for 2 of those with a can of juice, so if you have a hungry family it could be a bit costly. in fairness most places in Pittenweem seemed expensive to us. The place was nice and clean and service was quick.

Very expensive and not worth the money. Haddock was fresh. Male owner is not someone I will give my time nor money to because he stated " I don't like coloured people" as we ordered. Oh, and the Witch mural is ridiculous.

Don't understand negative reviews here, we were staying a few doors down from the shop and had the best fish and chips for a long time, friendly staff, chatty locals, felt very welcoming

Such beautifully fresh battered haddock and chips! Chip Ahoy has a small but varied menu; mainly fish but with meat dishes too. Service excellent. Average prices for food and drink. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. What's not to love!

We ate in at this chippy with a bar. There's a good selection of fish on the menu but also some meat dishes for those that prefer that. We ordered the haddock and chips which came with a small portion of mushy peas and pot of sauce. The fish was as fresh as if it had just walked through the door from the harbour, chips were perfect too. Our waitress was Joyce who, altho busy, made sure all customers got proper attention. She also had good knowledge on the drinks too and suggested a local whiskey to try. All in all it was a great experience and we both had empty plates! And well done to the guys frying the fish....that batter was light, crispy and golden!

Lovely people! That's just what stood out here. The village is delightful, great views and a nice little walk by the pier. The pub menu was surprisingly large and we got enough options for all- vegetarians included. Drinks were great too! Loved that they served poppadums with a special onion chutney. 😋😋 Definitely recommended!

chip ahoy is a seafront pub come chip shop come restaurant. it does exactly what it says on the tin, providing well prepared food, a good pint and friendly service. we popped in tonight for a classic chippy tea - fish, chips, and mushy peas. young joyce, our waitress was friendly and helpful and the guys in the kitchen whipped up some lovely fresh fish in a light crispy batter. it was an excellent meal and made even better with an superb local malt whiskey that joyce recommended. we'd be in again if we were staying longer in pittenweem. to summarise - good food, drink, and service, but don't expect luxurious surroundings!

My self & my partner &my son and his partner went there for the day and we decided to go to the chip ahoy for something to eat we had 4 fish and chips 2 prawn cocktails 3 cans of justice fresh orange and lemonade glass of water It expensive as it cost us £95.00 definitely not be going back as on the price list it says £12.50 for the fish and chips =£50.00 so works out to be £45.00 between 2 prawn cocktails and the drinks

Got 2 kids fish and chips and an adult one. £29 and really not worth it. They were all really small, the fish was mainly batter, not a lot of fish at all. The chips were ok. The Wee Chippy in Anstruther is a substantially better experience.

Called in here today, met some lovely people. Ordered food, absolutely superb. Good experience, good fun, met the Harbour Master, 👍

i would stay away from chip ahoy and go to Anstruther instead dinner was shocking i got stake pie with mash it was served in a small ovel bowel with a small rime of mashed potatoes around the rime no vegetable 5 small bits of stake my partner ask for a Sunday roast which should come with roast potatoes veg mash and Yorkshire puddings all it came with is 1 peace of chicken in the middle of the plate two small spoons of mashed potato 1 one side of the plate and one the other and two Yorkshire puddings that was it made a protest when paying the £37 bill the manager just told his staff member to charge the full price the staff were so rude was there last Saturday as well for a take away it was ok till a seen them cook the white pudding in the fryer then put it in the microwave so got that with about 12 chips for £12 well overpriced i will never be back there so if anybody ask they will be advised to stay away as staff are rude and the food is over priced rant over

Fish and chips were disappointing…hardly any batter on the small sized fish and a kids sized serving of chips for £12.50. If you’re staying in Pittenweem I’d recommend going to Anstruther for them - where they’re much tastier and obviously cooked by folk who actually know how to make fish and chips.

We popped in for a drink after walking from St Moans, and the staff was very welcoming. I can't comment on the food as we didn't have any, but it was very busy, and everyone who was eating seemed happy with their orders. Our dog's were made very welcome too, and despite being busy, they took the time to make a fuss of them. They also gave them some treats and got them a bowl of water. We would most definitely pop in again

Quirky wee place ,a take away chippy,restaurant & bar ! We stopped for a drink, bar really nice, well stocked,good wine & reasonably priced. Menu looked nice Extremely dog friendly offered treats and water for our pooch & a small appetiser came with our drinks Staff very friendly and cannot fault the service at all We will definitely return And the location is fabulous

Would never eat here again. ** We usually go to the Larachmhor a good few times a month and it's always been decent. Good service and good food! Went there this evening. Was charged £16 for chips and cheese and a children's fish supper which was half a tiny fish and 10 chips. It was pretty horrible to be honest. The chips were very very greasy and hard, the fish was slimy and there was so much paper stuck to the bottom of them both. Very disappointed and definitely puts me off going back 😞 Wouldn't usually do a review but it was particularly disappointing. **

Busy chip shop, bar, restaurant. Seems to be the only fast food outlet in Pittenweem. Fish supper was excellent - had with red wine!

Sorry Anstruther, had perfect meal in this lovely wee place, found my perfect supper and it's right on seafront and harbour, next time sitting on seafront with takeaway.....

We had oaksmoked haddock with chips. The fish and chips for the child was a huge portion. Everything was delicious also compared with price awarded competitors. Very heartfull and personal service.

We drove down on a dreich Monday (24/7/23), hence the slight dip on scoring 'atmosphere'. Not sure of the name of the lady who helped us get our lunch - apologies. However, she was brilliant! So welcoming. 😁 The food is delicious. We had cullen skink, a prawn marie rose sandwich and mozzarella sticks. Portions were very generous and really well priced for the quality of the food, particularly, the smoked haddock and prawns. Defintinitely somewhere we will return. 😊🐟🍤😊

A very welcoming bar/restaurant. Staff were nice and friendly , my wife and I shared a bottle of beer and were giving a poppadom with onion chutney which was very nice. Couldn't rate the food as we didn't have any but the customers who did appeared to be enjoying it.

Lovely freshly cooked seafood. With a range of other menu items to dine in or takeaway. Quirky waiting and dining areas.

Overpriced, average fish and chips. Save your money and go to Anstruther. Person who appeared to be the owner made my 16 yr old daughter and her friend feel uncomfortable with his chat.

Been a few times this week , Fantastic fish and chips and had a fabulous bottle of peroni with my Mrs in the sun while my order was cooking. The landlord very kindly got my Akita meaty dog treat which she loved. Top place . I'll be Back 😁

Very busy at points which meant service could take a while but staff were very attentive and friendly. Food was lovely but the restaurant was very hot.

Fish was too greasy. If it had been left to drain it would have been perfect!

An unplanned venture, on the recommendation of a tourist, but I'm vert glad I called in for my dinner. The Steak Pie and mash was pretty special and the beer good too. Service was effective and friendly. I'll plan on returning next time.e I'm in the area.

Just wanted to say an enormous thank you to the guy working on 1st June, who very kindly fixed us up with a very last-minute fish and chips as our accommodation had no working oven. He went above and beyond to make us feel welcome - and the fish and chips were fantastic too!

Just called in for a coffee and decided to have a bacon roll while we were there. Coffee really good and the bacon roll was lovely. The bacon was smoked which is unusual and really tasty. It came really quickly too. What a delightful place. Staff really friendly too.

Popped in for tea on Tuesday, we all had lovely fish and chips

There are not many places to eat in Pittenweem so we dropped in here on the off chance. We were not disappointed for a group of 4. Seated inside in the restaurant opposite the well stocked and not cheap looking bar. Its basically a FISH and CHIP SHOP but with a bar and watered service. The food selection was varied and good. The size of the portion faire but could have been little bigger. The fish was so fresh and batter light as a feather, and you could chose to have it battered, breaded or just as it was. I had a half n half haddock. Half smoked haddock and half plain it was washed down with a nice bottle of white. Brilliant. Friendly staff. It did not feel like the usual fish and chip shop oh no sir this was a hidden gem. Try it. Not many tables inside so get early or book is my recommendation.

Had a run out on the motorbike for a pint and fish and chips. Nice little seating area made of barrels and sacks outside to catch a bit of sun too. Fish and chips always good here, and the village and working harbour is picture postcard perfect.

Stopped in here for a pint on the way back to our cottage for the week. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Grabbed some fish & chips for the way back home and they were the best I've had in a long time! Good job, guys!

Home from home - how i wish i had a place like this in Leith! From the moment we set foot in the place, the lovely owners were so welcoming and made us feel at home. It was a busy Friday for them but we were so happy and grateful to be set up at the bar for a couple of drinks and food. The place is totally unique, and exactly one of the places you always hope you find when you are on holiday. I love this place so much for the reasons below - A great atmosphere, the loveliest owners with the BEST chat, the best spiced onions I've ever had, eclectic decor, laid back and relaxed and seriously beautiful food. I've never been in a chippy / pub like this before but its a keeper for me. The owners are doing a stellar job! Thank you so much for a brilliant early eve. Xxx

Overpriced soup luke warm fish not cooked through won't be back

Thought it was not going to be good when there was a bit of confusion with our order however this was sorted out very quickly and to our benefit. Friendly staff who went above and beyond. Haddock and sea bass were delicious. Thanks heaps.

Today I had the misfortune of visiting this premises where I had a very nice cup of coffee but unfortunately I was aware of the owner/ licensee continually using extreme foul language whilst In conversation with three what appeared to be bar regulars . At this time I was with my elderly parents, there was also another elderly couple having food on the premises undoubtedly within hearing of his vocabulary. I quickly decided to leave and when doing so I made a point of speaking to the licensee objecting to the foul language he had been using . Initially he said nothing but merely stared at me and then suddenly said ‘ Get out!’ ‘ I am the licensee ,my pub, my rules! Now get out !’ My mother at this time went to pay another member of staff for the coffees but the licensee intervened and said ‘ I don’t want your money , get out !’ Again using fowl language. We left the premises, as we did so he continued his foul mouthed tirade. His attitude was disgraceful and totally unacceptable for the hospitality industry. I certainly would advise anybody who is not accepting of this abhorrent behaviour to avoid this establishment.

Fantastic place! The food is amazing and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. It's dog-friendly too which is a bonus for many visitors. Dine in, or order your takeaway and have a cheeky little drink at the bar while you wait! Perfect!

Stopped off for a rest on Coastal path walk and the welcome we got was superb. Lovely pint and coffee and owner went out of his way to give our dog a wee treat. Well worth a visit.

The Cullenskink was delicious. However when I asked for another piece of bread because mine didn't feel fresh the man threw a piece of bread onto the table for me. Not even into a plate Definitely will not be going back there

Don't go I was warned by locals and gave it a try as I had fond memories of the pub previously on visiting. I was sick as a dog and had serious tummy upset sunnind down the braes unable to get a toilet.... Never again

Had a superb smoked fish and chips today. Lightly smoked haddock in a thin batter perfectly cooked. My wife's breaded haddock was a delight too. Large portions at a reasonable price. Chips good too. The only slight downside was, when there is a great choice of seafood (mussels, prawns, sea bass and langostines ) the fish platter is only smoked and plain haddock. Had the platter been a greater choice we would have chosen it.

We rented a house around the corner and this became our "local" we had fish suppers, popped in for drinks (several times) and ended our vacation with breakfast before heading home. Every time we were given a warm welcome and food and drinks were great. When we turned up for breakfast they hadn't opened yet but seated us and served us anyway. 10/10 would recommend!
