Chinese Whispers in Glasgow City

Last night, I placed a large order for 4 people which came to almost £60. We came in and ordered, and were advised it would take 20-25 minutes. All in all it was nearer 45 but that was down to the staff sitting the order on a table and not bringing it out to the waiting area to pass the order on. There is glass partition between the waiting area and the kitchen, and after about 25 minutes a large box came out and was sat on a table. Multiple other orders were brought out to the waiting customers, but the box remained. They were very understaffed to even ask anyone a question about the mystery box but as a regular customer you just assumed they are on top of things and this was maybe for a delivery driver to pick up. 15 minutes pass and I see a member of staff wander over, read the order then bring it to the waiting area, it was my order. I challenged them that the food had been sitting there for 15 minutes and hadn’t been brought out, I didn’t want a cold order. I reiterated that I appreciated that they were very busy but I’d rather my order was redone. They offered me a full refund (I presumed for the irritation of having to wait another 40 minutes for an order) to which I said a partial refund would be fine as I didn’t want them to lose the full cost of the order. This is where their attitude turned completely unacceptable. The staff member said “No, it’s either a full refund or the food”. I challenged to say, so I can either take my money or the food? What is happening with the cold order that no one wants? I can only assume this would be heat up and given to someone else that ordered the meal later that night. So I consulted my family and told them of the absolute farce that had occurred and we agreed we were all very hungry and would rather the food. When I came back in and reluctantly accepted the food, the staff member then challenged me to say I hadn’t paid. After some fumbling about they realised I had paid, another embarrassment for the establishment. Despite remaining cool headed during this abhorrent customer experience, not once was I offered even the slightest hint an apology for their lack of control. The establishment was very busy at this time, so I presume they were trying to play to the crowd when rejecting my debate to their misdemeanour but thankfully, other customers agreed with my challenges. The staff didn’t budge though, and continued their mortifying behaviour. Myself and my family will never eat here again and I’d suggest to any continued customers to make sure you aren’t receiving cold, rejected, food orders, as it seems like mine could’ve ended up in the Whispers microwave and on your kitchen table if I’d chose the refund, if you’d ordered the same dish. To the two staff members on the night, I hope you are absolutely ashamed with your standoffish, unhelpful and lack of empathy towards a previously regular customer.

Avoid. I wish I had checked the increase in poor reviews as this place has went downhill. Advertise a Malaysian curry as creamy but when arrives it is basically a standard curry. Staff and chef refuse to accept it being an issue. Pathetic!

I ordered a delivery tonight at 7.20pm and it arrived at 9.10pm the chicken curry was lumpy cold and squidgy the salt n chilli chips were soggy n cold disgusting! the wait on delivery is a joke, i phoned back after waiting 50 mins to get told its the next delivery to go! And still waiting another 45 minutes later. Phoned them back to say the food was cold and only got offered 10pounds off my next order!! What am a meanty do the now for dinner eh stuck way cold crap.I'm really disappointed at this because I've been a customer for over 2years with no complaints. Money wasted 25 quid down the Swanie!!!

Very disappointed. Ordered chicken fried rice with fresh garlic, ginger and spring onions. What I got was plain chicken fried rice. Nothing like the description on the menu. Won't be ordering from here again.

My curry is usually lovely,but the one I just had, sauce was gloompy, and beef not nice, most went in the bin. So dissapointed this time.

Pricing is a little awkward as not current on the in store price list. Food is always good.

Meat found within vegetarian meals.. I have ordered from here several times over the years and most of the time the food has been alright. However after my most recent order, I will not be ordering again. I ordered a mushroom chow mein and within it, I found a piece of chicken. This service and contamination of food is totally unacceptable. I have never eaten meat and unintentionally consumed some due to the takeaways own error and fault. What was supposed to be a nice dinner, resulted in vomiting.. This should not be happening full stop. What would happen if someone was to have an allergic reaction to the food due to the contamination and error!? It is a serious issue. I have contacted the takeaway via email and they responded, providing me with a full refund.

Extremely poor customer service. Have ordered from Chinese Whispers for the past 2 years only to be let down by some of the worst customer experience I've ever experienced in my life. Unfortunate as the food is very high quality.

Whispers sell THEE best BBQ sauce ever! Popcorn chicken is amazing!

Really disappointing. First time ordering last night and in 24 years of different Chinese food experiences, I've never had such tough chewy and awful ribs. Such laziness. Should be cooked low and slow so that the meat is tender and falling off the bone. I could have used these ribs to reroof my house. Poor. Dimsum were just frozen ones from the supermarket so not very exciting. Kinda like rubber bullets actually. My szechuan chicken meat (and beef actually) was slimy with zero flavour. Cheap low quality ingredients with little to no care applied when cooking. We did not finish any of our dishes. Finally, I woke up at 1.30am dying for a drink of water. This can only be down to the amount of MSG and salt they use in cooking. I've never experienced that before. I cannot recommend this place for food. And after spending over £30, you don't even get crackers? What is happening in this world?

Best Chinese in Renfrewshire!! Popcorn chicken is to die far and no where else beats it!

Fast delivery. I ordered chicken with garlic and ginger fried rice. It was chicken fried rice with garlic and ginger dried seasoning. Very lazy and passion less, I must say. If you are going to charge money, make an effort and cut some ginger and garlic up and chuck it in.

Have been using for a few years now, always happy. Am quite fussy when it comes to Chinese so stick with what I like, always busy. Particularly a fan of the roast duck, ginger and spring onion.

Food was OK, for what I could eat of it ,asked for no chilli in my meal it was actually too spicy to eat, honey chicken. Was quiet expensive I thought too.

First time trying here. The Singapore rice noodles were really really good. Special fried rice was also fab. Glad we found this place 😀

Won't be back, I asked for shredded duck and received chunks of what looked like fat and tasted exactly like fat. Worst was to come with what was meant to be salt n chili ribs was 6 chickenless bones different sizes covered in what looked like builders plaster, and I ain't joking...45 bucks down. Stay clear folks.

Meal came asked for noodles with bamboo shoots all that came was bamboo shoots. Chicken in black bean was watery and cold . Worst meal I’ve had in a while, was really not impressed..

First time customer. This chinese is best in Renfrewshire, we will not be going anywhere else. Different class to all the others. Respect to all staff at Whispers.

We hadn't used this local restaurant for a few years due to reasons we can't recall, a neighbour recommended them but did say, pick it up as delivery is terrible, this is confirmed in one of the few reviews. We ordered online just before 7pm the estimated del of 7.30 and 8.05 came and went, called the restaurant at 8.30 to be told the order didn't come thru their end! eventually was delivered just short of 2 hrs after ordering, worth mentioning my house is about half a mile at most from the restaurant. My wife who is a salt fiend likes to flood her plate with salt didn't add any as the dishes were extremely salty resulting in half the food being eaten which must be a first for us, Delivery and saltiness aside the bill was excessive at £34.60 skewered chicken (starter) curried chips, spicy chicken, ginger and spring onion, bean sprouts, tub of curry sauce (£2.70) prawn crackers £2.00 small onion rings 9 pieces £3.20 the rest did supply 4 cans of juice as an apology for the delay which helped wash down the salt. I suppose it depends on what dishes you get but I've hundreds of reviews on trip and won't be rushing back. If the salt had been a pinch as opposed to a fist it would have been ok.

Best take away in area so it can be super busy.

Great food always quick delivery

The best Chinese ever as far as carry out is concerned. Great choice of menu speedy delivery and quality food at a fair price. Wouldnt look anywhere else in the area to order. They have never let us down, so go on give them a try. A faboulous experience awaits.

one of the nicest chinese takeaways around such a same the lady at the counter is too busy eating her food & left mine on counter for five minutes until she finished eating her own ....... not good customer service at all.. even with asking was that mine

Food is excellent! No complaints whatsoever apart from the salt and chilli chips were a tad on the soggy side but flavourful. Yet to visit the restaurant but im sure I will be a happy customer again!

We have ordered deliveries a few times from here and, for the most part, the food is delicious. The crispy roast duck is superb as is the nasi goreng however it really does take a ridiculous time for them to deliver it and we are always calling to chase it up!!! Such a shame!

This is a little gem of a place. The food is amazing so much choice. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Great deal on Pre-theatre for sitting in restaurant. Would highly recommend it.

A great takeaway for a small village. Does a range of Chinese & Thai dishes, all freshly cooked . Portion sizes ideal. I personally don't use it to eat in but stop by frequently to pick up a takeaway on the way home and cannot fault it. Never too long to wait, plenty of parking outside & reasonably priced.

Went here one Sunday good price for the pre theatre the portion sizes are good the only thing I have to complain about is them putting the Chinese leaves in your soup I think they should ask you first overall it was nice and the wee girl who serves you can't do enough for you she is really helpful

Recently moved to Erskine and been disappointed by the Chinese restaurants there so thought we would try this one and it was really good. Not a huge portion size but tasty and full of flavour.

We got the meal for 3 for 30 pounds and were not very impressed. The spring rolls were really good and tasty but the rest of the dishes weren't very nice. The bag of food looked massive but it was filled mostly with rice and prawn crackers. The chicken noodle soup was alright, lacked a bit in flavour. The crispy chicken was really bizarre and I couldn't quite work out was it was, and the texture was more chewy then crispy. The chicken and prawn stir fry dishes were quite lovely, but I was not a fan of the beef at all. The dishes did taste like they were prepared earlier that day and were heated up before being served. Not sure if this place would be considered good value for money or if i'd be back again.
