Went with my wife, she had a cracking time she honestly said to me "your the best man I've ever had but this place is amaze balls" so I'm gonna have to marry her.

Decided to go for a Chinese as a change. Used to go regularly with my wife a few years ago. We arrived around 8.00pm and the place was empty. Very limited menu compared with what it used to be. No draught beer available even though it was on the drinks menu. Food wasn’t anything special, the curry was very salty. Have had takeaways from there, but there are better ones in the area. Very unlikely to return.

5* service lovely food and warm welcoming family restaurant says it all when my 4 yr old says it's her favourite place.

First Time I’ve seen hot and sour soup with jalapeños 🤮 also the Singapore vermicelli was like Mush Barely any vegetables in the dish or meat just mushy noodles with what tasted like curry sauce init Disgusting never again.

Placed phone order. Food came freezing cold some of the order was burnt. I rang up to which I requested refund or new food. He said I had to go in to collect it as his driver was 2 hours before delivery. Disgusting the way the manager spoke to me to be honest. Saying it wasn’t his problem if I didn’t like his food. Never again. A £45 order what I normally get in another Chinese for £27. But as felt like a change I used these and was the worst mistake I could have done. Disgrace of a restaurant

I ordered a takeaway to be delivered. We had no problem with the delivery as it arrived earlier than we were told, unfortunately that was the only good thing about it. The prawn crackers were stale, and the noodles that came with the chicken chow mein tasted burn, and the temperature of some of the food was not as hot as the rest. I don't mind paying for something if it is good but this definitely wasn't good.

Called for a takeaway. Found the prices high but if the quality had been good would not have minded, Prawn crackers were stale Beef in black pepper had too much oyster sauce and was fishy Overall not impressed

You can put food prices up or portion sizes down surly not both, which seems to be the case here. Also just not at tasty as it used to be. New owners? Cheaper ingredients? Tiny bottles of coke just don’t do it for a salty meal either.

Nice place good food and service

Decided to use them for a takeaway for a change from my usual place. Ordered early but it still took them over 90 minutes to deliver. Will not be using them again and had a nicer meal from other places.

The most disgusting Chinese have ever had in Prescot. Got served bland Singapore fried rice and the must disgusting thing, was the spoilt ribs served 😑. No apologies when I did return the ribs, the lad at the cashier had the effrontery ,to ask me if I wanted another disgusting ribs or my money back.🤡

Can't fault the food it was really nice but my order took 2hours and 6min to arrive and the portion sizes for the prices they charge are pretty small it's definitely better to go into the restaurant I wouldn't advice ordering

Come for an anniversary meal, food was absolutely gorgeous couldn’t knock it, just wish they had a staff room as sat listening to staff members watch the Kardashian’s the whole time we where there and felt like we where being watched the whole meal

Excellent experience - our usual restaurant was closed and we happened on this one. Lucky happenstance. Clean, bright. Food a bit different from usual run of the mill Chinese dishes. Even desserts were unusual and delicious. Will definitely revisit.

Me and my husband went for a meal last Saturday. We were able to just walk in. The service was fantastic and staff and owner very polite and friendly. The food was very tasty and the portion sizes where generous. The 1/2 duck We had for our starter was delicious and the beef curry was the best I have tasted we will return again

We have had numerous takeaways from this restaurant and the food has always been great. Unfortunately last nights was not good and if we had been eating in the restaurant we would have returned two of the 5 meals we ordered.

We went for a meal at the China star last night, from the moment we arrived we felt extremely safe and welcomed, it was well set up meeting covid rules. The resteraunt was spotless, food was excellent, hot tasty and plentiful, good sized portions, extensive menu, great value for money comfortable seating, friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble, very attentive staff, would highly recommend, we will definitely be returning, they also offer a takeaway/delivery service which is something we. ll be making the most of, a visit here will definitely not disappoint

Take away Friday in our house was always Chinese but struggled in lockdown finding a Chinese open in our area and we started getting sick of pizzas. Found this restaurant and thought we’d give it a try. We’ve ordered twice in the past few weeks. Food is delicious and not living right on the doorstep food is still hot when it arrives with a friendly delivery driver. We would definitely recommend.

Ordered takeaway last evening of 14.05.2020. We spent £45 plus. The soup was like water and tasteless. The chicken in the meals was so dry it was getting hard to swallow. The shredded beef was like cardboard. The only part of the meal that we did enjoy was the appetisers. We have always used this restaurant to eat in for many years, but for past year, we have tried several times eating in and have also been disappointed. But still returned to give it another chance. But not wasting any more money on this restaurant. Its such a shame, this was at one time a lovely restaurant which done good food. Not sure why things have changed.

Very nice takeaway whilst in lockdown had crispy duck and BBQ ribs to start, both cooked really nice, then had sweet n sour chicken with fried rice and a chicken chow mein again very nice, wasn't salty like u get in most Chinese takeaways, would definitely recommend and will be going again

Eight of us visited this restaurant on a Friday which we had pre booked . Many have lived in the area for a long time and never eaten there before. We had purchased a take away the week before and suggested that if it was good we would return for a meal in the restaurant. This occasion was for a birthday celebration . There was a vegan choice on the menu which suited the two vegans among the party.The staff were very attentative and polite. We ordered a variety of food which came out hot and very nice food. We had the crispy duck and Singapore rice was very nice. Between us all we ordered to much food which we managed to take home with us. The food was very nice we will eat there again.

Visited on Saturday with my grandmother in-between visiting times at Whiston hospital. We ordered Singapore vermicelli and crispy beef in chilli sauce with friend rice and chips. The Vermicelli was AMAZING! The beef was nice but more sweet than chilli. We took half the food home as was generous portions. Excellent service.

Overpriced and not as nice food as previous owner. Needs to look at local pricing even simple chicken sweetcorn soup is almost double price as other local Chinese.

I used to dine here relatively frequently, but than had a bad experience that put me off, and that was followed by poor Reviews over a few years. Recently, I mustered up the courage to have another go and was pleasantly surprised and delighted that the food was just as good as when I used to enjoy dining there, and my friends reckoned that it was the best Chinese meal that they had enjoyed for a long time. Staff were attentive and helpful; couldn't be faulted; so top marks China Star; you are exactly what you declare yourself to be "Simple Chinese Restaurant and Takeaway"

Great food and even better staff. Very welcoming, good menu and clean. Toilets a bit dirty but it was very late and they had the football final on so I can excuse it as normally there much better.

My wife and I along with family had a later dinner here on a Friday night (8:30pm). The restaurant wasn’t busy and we were seated with our food served quickly. Service was standard. I had the beef/broccoli which was a good portion and tasted great. Atmosphere was standard Chinese restaurant decor. Overall a nice family meal but nothing (service/food) to raise it above average.

We dined here at the suggestion of family who live in the area. Friday night & only two tables occupied at 8:30pm. Varied menu. Had the chicken lettuce wraps to start & the beef & broccoli main. Both were fresh & good portions. Had the pink gin & tonic & that was very nice too. Service was both efficient & friendly.

Had meals from here and they are excellent, ordered via just eat never had any problems, because it’s a proper restaurant the meals are superb.

We've eaten here on numerous occasions and the food this time was as nice as ever. The quality and quantity of the starters and main courses in our banquet were impressive. Particularly, liked the ribs and salt and pepper chicken starters. Good value and helpful staff. Would definitely recommend!

Having called in here a few years ago, decided to give it another try, night before Xmas Eve. Prices are reasonable with the usual menu items on offer. Drinks a bit more expensive than you would expect. Ordered Szechuan King Prawns with fried rice. Portion size was ok, but I found the dish itself, a little too salty. Service was prompt and efficient. Total bill £17 with a pint of Tiger.

We come here on a regular basis, the staff are friendly and the food is great, The teatime special is very good value and we always come out feeling full

Have visited this restaurant several times. Food good, service good, reasonably priced. Take away food just as good as sitting in. Would recommend sitting in and also take away food.

Here they have a deal on these days which is fab they don't skimp on the food and really is on parr with the best I love ❤️ it here so much we try to go sleaze once a month food never fails and staff are very nice been here a long time so there doing it right the salt and pepper squid is the best never over cooked perfect

We decided to try this place - based on good old TripAdvisor - for a take away with family.

Visited with family for birthday, they was very good in bringing out our cake and lighting candles

We were staying in a nearby hotel but didn't fancy a night out in the city so wandered to the China Star.

Had to bring main course home as soup, starters & dim sums sufficient. Waitress was lovely, our first visit tonight, but it won't be our last. Bottle of wine was reasonably priced & nice.

Pedí una comida para llevar. Fue rápidamente preparado. Puede ser un signo de un buen restaurante determinado a conseguir lo básico a la derecha. Este no llevar en mi vista. Las patatas fritas estaban secos y yo diría que re-climatizada, el dulce amarga pollo estaba todo n cebolla y bastante insulso, y el pollo al curry le faltaba profundidad de nuevo de sabores. El arroz frito estaba bien. Me dieron la opción de volver unos días más tarde, pero fuimos en lugar de la India a la vuelta de la esquina, una experiencia mucho mejor, y práctico para el micro pub que sirve cervezas al lado mientras espera su comida.

Came here last saturday with my family for a meal. Didn't book but the staff were happy to fit us in (6 of us). Staff were happy to tend you needs, it was busy shame it didnt get full as the food was very nice, my daughter whos fussy with her food enjoyed her meal. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area looking to enjoy a chinese. The portion are more then value for money, the bill for 6 of us including drinks came to £145 which is brilliant. Service was exellent, restaurant is nice and clean and food quaility is brilliant. I really think people are missing out on this place

wrong order, late order and food was disgusting. Tried to get a refund but they refused as we had eaten some of the food (how else are you supposed to taste it?). Would never go back and would advise anyone to head somewhere else.

Met a few friends in whiston and booked a table! Staff are really friendly very polite and we're very tentative! Good food for a fair price! They even boxed my food up for me as I couldn't finish it all! Will 100% go again! Makes a nice change not to go to a restaurant and be rushed out!

The China Star serves great Chinese meals.The restaurant is quite big,and never seems to get full,but people are missing a gem of a place. A great Meal for two with drinks for under £40.00 is,I think very good value.

I have been going to this restaurant for 2/3 years but only once under this owner took over never again food vile / salt.pepper ribs all bone no meat char sue buns never again total letdown they are living on reputation of last owners and killing it I would rate this res minus10

This was our 2nd visit to this restaurant since the change of ownership and it was just as disappointing as the first. What was a fabulous neighbourhood restaurant is now run of the mill, with staff who aren't familiar with the menu to advise, and it seems, uninterested management. The menu needs work; people are more savvy about food these days, and just offering fried veg with different sauces for vegetarians is just not acceptable. What was a destination restaurant for us in the past is now off our list.

We have been going to this restaurant for years , once every couple of months, since the change in owners the food is not to the previous standard. No complimentary prawn crackers and no fruit at the end of the meal, we didn't even get a Chinese cracker, we got lamb satay skewers and they where dripping in fat where they had been deep fried. The chow mein was nice though nothing special and cost £9. No kids fruit shoots even though they were in the menu. We won't be going back any time soon
