Take away. Either they know we are tourist and didn't care about what they gave it to us, or the chef has no idea about what he is doing. Egg fried rice didn't taste of anything, no seasoning, no flavors, nothing. Fried Beef strips was eating a cardboard in a soggy sauce, which was gelatinous and tasted horrible. They just throwed big chunks of raw carrots into it, which added to the horrible sauce. Had to throw away,as I was not sure about the side effects it might cause the next day.

We didn't understand that all main dishes didn't come with fried rice or veggies. You had to pay for everything separately. The cost was not up to the amount of food you received. I got the fried beef strips in honey chili sauce. The beef was fried so hard I couldn't chew most of it. Just not a meal I was looking for. After we left just down the street was an Indian restaurant that seemed like a place we should have gone. Also the toilets are up two flights of stairs and not very clean.

Lovely food but absolutely no atmosphere. Could do with a little background music at least.

The food was simple but vey tasty, good size serves, the young Lass that served us was very good. Would recommend the China Palace

Had a takeaway delivered. Nothing crispy about the duck (quarter with 6 pancakes £13); appreciate it was pre-shredded but no crispy skin in sight! Chicken Chow Mein was very oily & lacking in any flavour. Beef dish & rice were fine.

Opening times: On TripAdvisor it says they open at 12 noon. I got there about half past and they were closed. I was told I had a puncture, so I was stuck outside and saw them opening up about 2 o'clock - even though a menu stuck to the window said they open at 4 o'clock. I went back after getting the car sorted out, arriving about 3:45, went in, was at first told they were not open, but then shown to a table. I was left with the menu for over ten minutes before the waitress came back for my order. After my starters I was again left waiting. After some time I realised she was speaking Chinese to someone on the phone. By leaning forward I could just see her round the corner: as well as being on the phone, she was eating a meal - in the restaurant! The food was, quite frankly, average. I have been going there years - since the 1980s, when it was the Highland Star: back then it was fantastic, the food was wonderful and I always seemed to get the same friendly Scottish waitress. Now, I'm not surprised I was the only customer! If it changes hand again, I'll give it another try - but apart from that it's Goodbye China Palace!

Disappointing. We shared an entree, chicken satay sticks, they tasted precooked and lacked that peanut satay flavour, I’ve had so much better elsewhere. For the main we preserved egg fried rice and chicken cashew stir fry. Again the chicken tasted reheated, not tender like freshly cooked chicken. The egg fried rice had no visible egg we could see. Very disappointing meal. The owner was too busy tending to a group of apparent friends by the look of it favouring them. I wouldn’t rush back unfortunately. The young waitress was very nice.

Delicious food, friendly service, reasonable prices

Mapo tofu, fish-flavored eggplant and twice-cooked pork seem to use the same sauce, so basically there is not much difference in taste. The salt and pepper pork ribs and broccoli beef are delicious and worth recommending. Although the hot and sour soup is not the authentic Shanghai hot and sour soup, the taste is definitely acceptable.

Food was excellent and the staff were very attentive! Left sunglasses and the owner posted back to me!! Would recommend to anyone passing through Fort William!

The house and interior don’t look so inviting and the owner is Chinese, which are known as friendly in their own way 😉. But after a few words the ice was broken and we got our ordered food, what wasn’t even in the menu. She asked 2 times if everything is ok and brought fresh hot water for the tea without asking for. Our dishes were very delicious and the price is also very reasonable. I’d go again to eat here.

Great authentic chinese restaurant. Decent sized portions, good flavour, and price. Fast service and has a neat view of the loch. Nice hot food to warm our cold bodies from this wet weather.

This rating is for a takeaway that I ordered! I've bought from here three times, and each time has been consistently great. The food has been hot, the service was friendly, quite quick service too considering they are often busy. Would really recommend!

We were a bit hesitant to go here given earlier reviews. Must say we were not disappointed at all, tasty well prepared dishes (tender and just spicy enough, spot on). Yes, the place may look a bit outdated, but the food is good. Next time, if you need to pick one of the three restaurants in a row, don't overlook this one.

The food was perfect, the service was friendly, the prices were absolutely ok. 87.- for two starters, two menu (duck) and side dishes, including 2 Water, 1 bottle of wine, coffee and schnapps. fast and easy meal after a day hiking up ben nevis, was able to pick up our takeout in sub 15 minutes which is amazing, solid food options, great post workout food!!!

Stopped by last Friday night at a hotel at the other end of the High Street in Fort William for the start of a 3 peaks challenge weekend. Went out to look for a Chinese takeaway. Found this probably one and only Chinese within short walking distance from my hotel. At 21.15 ish, I went in there as the only customer for a Singapore vermicelli and wonton soup. They told me it would be half an hour! Maybe they were busy with restaurant customers or home deliveries. It cost just over £11! The food was fine. It wasn't like cutting edge breakthrough by any stretch of imagination. I as a Chinese who loves Chinese food travel up and down the country with work a lot and eat a lot of Chinese takeaway on my travel, Wales, England, Scotland. This takeaway in Fort William is the most expensive I've come across in the last year. One in Oxford earlier this year came close 2nd. One of my local Chinese takeaway in North Wales manage to charge those 2 dishes for under £8. And I live in a touristy town. They can churn up a dish in 5 minutes when not busy or 10 minutes when busy. This one in Fort William must have taken advantage of weekend tourists to charge that much. Even a few in London I've tried don't charge that much. Taking advantages of tourists is a bad business strategy. 1 star off for expensive and 1 star off for slow service. Edit: 2 years later in July 2024, even slower (45 mins wait) and more expensive (almost £13 for Won Ton soup and Singapore vermicelli). Again, the most expensive Chinese takeaway in 2024.

When you walk into the restaurant is warm but the staff didn’t really had a welcoming face and they are a bit rude, the food was good! I had the king prawn fried rice it was a good meal but the chairs/couches weren’t soft.

The service was appalling and not attentive at all. The first lady who served us had the least friendliest face while serving us. However, it the best Chinese I had in Scotland so if you can bare with their miserable face, you will like it.

Got a takeaway tonight and can hands down say that is the best chow mein I have eaten. It may be down to my preference but absolutely no grease and tasted so fresh! Salt and chilli chips were very nice too with a proper crispy battered chip. Will definitely be back next time I am through

Sichuan style chicken and Chasiu Fried Rice are super delicious. Sweet & sour chicken and chicken wings are nice. Service is very quick.

Alright if you're traveling on a budget, need food to stay alive and do not have time constraints. Although we were seated immediately, we had to wait a long time for someone to attend our table and eventually had to grab the attention of the waitress thrice before she came to take our order. Had to wait another 20-25 minutes for our order and when it did come, mains arrived before the starters. The food was okay enough, although we did find a prawn with it's spine still in it. Soups were quite bland. Overall, a very poor experience at such a large establishment. They were very clearly understaffed, only 4 people (including the hostess) serving all the tables in the restaurant. The time we waited to order and for the food to arrive ended up being longer than what we took to consume it all.

Greasy, greasy, greasy, I think this sums the food up. I know it's in Scotland, but deep frying and greasy food is not the way to go. Flavour was also lacking. Staff were very pleasant and attentive, fast service too.

We have been going here for years. Tonight for the house mixed starter. Usually this is amazing. Tonight awful. Almost a joke. Half the box was missing. No dip. The spare ribs looked more like bits of the spine. Very greasy. Very disappointed. We live 15 miles away, if we had lived closer we would have taken it back.

Having read some of the previous reviews it feels like I eat somewhere completely different to them. On arrival all seemed ok but staff seemed uninterested. We ordered three main courses which all came out separately. The food was good but it was possible the most expensive Chinese restaurant I've been too and the portions where very small. Wouldn't recommend but, like us, you may be left with few options nearby.

Place to go for those missing Chinese food. Yummy fried rice, beef noodle soup, and salt and pepper shrimp. The spiciness of the hot and sour soup is perfect for the cold weather.

Definitely recommend. Amazing food with friendly staff and the service was very quick. One of the best Chinese meals I've had.

You are forced to spend at least £10/meal/person. Supplements must be ordered for a fee. We have never had such bad Asian food.

Had absolutely lovely meal here tonight. I had chicken Satay and the veg was so nice and crisp. Sons had Kung Pao and Beef Peking Style which they said was absolutely delicious .Will definitely be back again.

Rating Chinese Palace overall 3 stars. I would return but stay away from there peking dishes as is very very watery and tasteless. However my wife had shredded salt and pepper chicken with a side of curry sauce and the curry was good, nothing salt and pepper about the chicken but was also still good. Decent portion sizes. Rather pricey but I guess that come with the area. Thanks anyways 😊

"What happened?" We went there for a good meal as my wife is Chinese. However, everything was unexpected 'tasty'. The roast duck fried rice was too dry. Stir-fried beef with oyster sauce was disgusting with the chinese mushrooms Caogu. Your cook didn't boil it in water before fried, and that is unacceptable. Also, the starters, roast king prawn toast should with shrimp paste in the middle and king prawn on top, sesame around is fine even though the original one should be with breadcrumbs. In general, your chef doesn't know how to cook ... u as the owner don't have a good taste of Chinese food.

Food was fine it’s what you expect and want from a Chinese. Service was fast but the owner actually argued with me. She brought the wrong dish to my friend and then said I didn’t order the chicken chow mein. I told her kindly I did and she kept arguing with me. Shocked that an owner would do that. Even when we went to paid she had such an attitude. Would not go again because of her. The girls working there were fantastic! Just the owner ruined it for us.

Got a takeaway from here, whilst staying over in Fort William. Ordered and collected personally, didn't have to wait to long to be served and food was great. Recommended

Honestly one of the best chinese I've ever had. I had this devine house special dish, duck with honey chillie sauce, which I could not get enough of! My house special rice was delicious with a lot of meat which was cooked to perfection. If you're in the mood to eat like a king, then this is the palace for you. Thank you for such a great dining experience.

I was searching for a place for me and my partner to eat before we arrived for our anniversary and was honestly a bit put off by the reviews. Well today, we decided to chance it and I couldn’t sing their praises enough! The restaurant has nice decor, the staff are very friendly and the food is absolutely delicious, I think the best Chinese I’ve ever had. I can tell my partner enjoyed it as he barely spoke to me, only to tell me how good it was! We’re considering coming back here again before we leave, we enjoyed it that much!

I ordered Mapo Tofu, Xiangxi stir-fried pork and spicy chicken. They were all delicious, especially the Xiangxi stir-fried pork, which was very hotpot.

The food was really tasty and not at all greasy. Better than the average Chinese restaurant. Can recommend the Hong Kong style chicken and the crispy duck with sauce.

Do yourself a favour and avoid this place. Every table around us had orders wrong. Food came out occasionally and when it did it was cold. The restaurant ran out of rice, which is definitely a first for me. No heating on in the restaurant (had to eat wearing jackets) and can only pay in cash……… lots of red flags. Not a good experience all round.

Carry out service only which was disappointing as it appears to be only Chinese in town centre. The portions were smaller as they used rice size cartons for main course so we feel short changed. The chicken chow mein was mediocre and I could have produced better myself. I have had a sit in meal here in past and was good so why have their standards slipped? Please note owners that I'll try and avoid next time however it makes you think they know the passing trade is good enough so why try too hard!!

Can't recommend as they didn't listen to our order correctly. The portion sizes were around 2/3 of regular size and the meal quality was lower standard to what you'd get elsewhere.

Shredded beef in honey chilli, egg fried rice and chicken balls with curry sauce all really nice. Wouldn’t get the sweet and sour again, slightly too sweet and prawn crackers weren’t worth £2. All in all a nice Chinese takeaway

Food does not come served like as in the photo. The noodles and chicken were greasy and inedible. We were only ones in on a Friday night in December, very overpriced . We will not be back

Avoid avoid avoid, phone for takeaway food arrived cold look like it been cooked days ago. Delivery was late over hour half . Think we had a lucky escape sending food back or probably would have had food poisoning 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

I’m a bit disappointed that I didn’t follow my gut when I saw the bucket and cleaning products by the reception, I still booked a table and things wend downhill from there. The decor was confused and dated, there was no atmosphere and while it was all clean, it just wasn’t comfortable. We ordered and the food came really quickly which was a concern, shows that it wasn’t cooked to order. The food was ok, we ate about half of it, the plates were cleared ok, nobody asked us how the meal was of if we wanted anything else. I got the general feeling that they were aware that things were not great and happy for us to pay and leave. Not a great culinary experience.

Looks nice from outside. Not quite Chinese atmosphere. No settings on the tables. Staff don't seem to have any uniforms 😕 No table clothes only red plastic sort of cloth. Staff seem OK just they don't seem to wait on you like other restaurants I've been in. We had a banquet for 4 the food was just placed down infront of you and it was like saying there ya go help your self. Young girls seem a bit rushed off there feet. For £128.80 we have had better service.

Food was great, my only complaint was the confusion when placing order. They did not take my name, tried to give me someone else's order which was 3 times bigger than my order. People that came in after got there larger order before me, no system it seems. Other customers complained.

Sehr unmotiviertes und unfreundliches Personal. Essen lieblos zubereitet und serviert. Preis ist eher hoch für diese Qualität. Beilagenreis ist nicht mit dabei. Muss separat bezahlt werden. Treibt den vermeintlich günstigen Preis in die Höhe. Besser Restaurant nebenan besuchen, da Preise in etwa gleich sind.

Orange Chicken und Fried Noodles waren sehr sehr gut. Take away bestellt, keine 10 Minuten gewartet. Und dir eine Person mehr als genug!!

Came here for a simple late night snack: chicken and sweetcorn soup, chicken balls, and egg fried rice. The chicken balls were nice and crispy, although the sauce was overly sweet and quite sickly. The chicken and sweetcorn soup was standard - nice and relaxing to have late at night! The egg-fried rice was also as you would find at other places. Quick service - food ready in 10 minutes.

Way overpriced. Got one portion of sweet and sour chicken balls, one egg fried rice and a portion of prawn crackers and it was £14.10. Can get two portions of the same at the other ones in caol for that price!

So, I visited with my 7 year old (who was really excited about going for a Chinese meal) and initially were acknowledged and seated promptly however we had to wait a while to order and had to ask to. When our order arrived (pretty quick) they brought us a chicken fried rice rather than the egg fried rice I'd ordered (we had ordered two main meals, surely a rice to share would make more sense than another main meal, no?) as soon as the plate was put down I asked "is this egg fried rice?" and was told I'd ordered chicken fried rice. I asked the server (not the same lady that took our order) to please check the order but it had been written down wrong. Rather than apologise and bring us what we ordered they were like that's what's written, that's what you're getting. The chicken noodle soup was spicy (very unusual) and my daughter didn't like it. The lemon chicken was served on a bed of raw onion (again, unusual). My Chinese tea was forgotten and I had to ask for it. No one came and asked if everything was OK with our meal, it was difficult to get the server's attention (to order, to chase up the tea, to get the bill). Once I asked for the bill the server said she'd bring it over, but as we're were keen to go (we had a 1.5 hour drive ahead of us and was 8:30pm) we went to the counter. I brought up the rice issue again but they weren't for amending the bill and we left. Food was OK, they might be fine for a take away (just check the order is correct) but the service was so disappointing we won't ever be back.

我们点了小炒肉和醋溜土豆丝，小炒肉味道非常正宗很好吃，醋溜土豆丝比较普通，或许他们可以添加一些葱丝炒香。番茄蛋花汤和茉莉花茶也是不错的。 我们第二天又来尝试了孜然牛肉，鱼香茄子，和宫保鸡丁。推荐孜然牛肉！！配菜的洋葱和青椒都非常入味！鱼香茄子也很好吃！ 老板娘也很有人情味，在每天的长途旅行结束后来到这里吃饭是一件非常开心的事情。以后有机会再来到苏格兰的话我还会回来这家餐厅😋

We received delivery from China Palace to our Inn when it was too wet & windy for our family to venture out. Delivery was timely, the food was hot and everyone enjoyed their meals. We ordered chicken noodles soup, pancake rolls, Kung Po and Fried rice. The Kung Po was flavorful and spicy, which we loved. The fried rice was not greasy and had lots of meat. Excellent meal after a long blustery day!

Called into this restaurant whilst on holiday, as I do like Chinese food. But food was the worse I’ve had. The beef in the curry was, well you couldn’t even chew it, as it was so rubbery. We had to leave it. It should have been soft, tender beef, this was not. The spring rolls were nothing short of vile. I don’t even know what was in them. The contents didn’t even resemble any spring rolls I had before and tasted vile. Being charged £50 for two main meals, which were not pleasant, and a potion of spring rolls with two soft drinks was unbelievable. Definitely not worth a penny of it. The servers were very pleasant though.

Highly recommend. I’ve eaten at many Chinese restaurants in the UK and this one is among the top. The atmosphere and the service are standard but the important things are that all the dishes are good. The prawn fried rice are very good. During our two days in Fort William, we went to the restaurant three times :) so if you have a chance, you should try.

Totally inediable chicken was rock solid doubt it was even chicken 🤢 customer service was horrendous driver begging for a tip which I normally do AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
