Well it closed recently and had been flattened to the ground. To be replaced with new residential. Alternative in Sherburn in Elmet.

Visited this evening to collect a take away, after visiting China palace for a number of years now I can say that its probably not a bad thing that they're closing. That was the worse chineese food I have ever eaten, I hate to say it... and not to mention part of my order was also missing. I know they're closing on Tuesday but the portion sizes have also gone to bare minimal and for the money it takes the mick.

We love this place. It is by far our favourite restaurant to eat out. Food is always fresh and lovely and the staff friendly and extremely polite, however...We have unfortunately experienced an extremely unpleasant clashing between some customers and the Manager. I must admit, they were extremely rude, arogant and patronising towards the staff which is enough to make someone go bolistic but the manager handled the situation extremely badly. I understand they probably deal with people like those on regular basis which can build up but the way the whole thing was handled was extreme and is definitely not something you wish to witness when you are out enjoying a meal. Never had issues at China Palace but maybe it is because we treat the staff with the respect they need and it is a shame that there are people out there who give the Brits a bad name.

Disgusting customer service. Another table quietly complained about the beer, next thing, manager comes over, takes everything away from their tables and tells them to f**k off. Completely uncalled for! Mangers swearing was loud and there were a few children present, ours included! Food also not the best. Wouldn’t give them my custom again after hearing the way they talk to customers, wish I’d have read the reviews prior to going because it seems the manager is like is on regular occasions!

Just visiting the area and we started with. lovely starters and awaiting our main course my friend compls3 about the beer not been good and we were asked to leave but we were swore at and the main dishes were banged and taken off our table we were so embarrsed it was terrible we used to be regulars but not no more... Shocking the man was disgusting 👍 Im going to take this further i was burnt with the sizzling plates..

We booked for 5pm and were shown straight to our table after having temperatures checked. Reassuring that masks worn when walking around. Staff all very friendly as they were when we were there a few years ago so I don’t understand the negative reviews, although it got rowdy as we were leaving so maybe there’s an issue with customer behaviour… All dishes were delicious and the portions are spot on to avoid waste. Crispy duck course was perfect. The children loved it and we look forward to returning.

Have been here so many times and the food is phenomenal. No other Chinese places can compare to this one! The starters are the best bit, i could sit there for hours and eat chicken satays for 10. The staff are all decently nice but the chefs make the most magical food. Best restaurant you can go to in my opinion 10/10!

Booked a table and was looking forward to a meal out. Greeted by a horrible woman who barked at us about masks, although not mentioned at the time of booking. Made to feel very unwelcome even after asking politely for masks. She then claimed to not be able to find our booking so we just left and will not be returning. If their food is as good as their customer service then I am glad to have left.

Booked for two , when we got there we'd not got masks , genuinely didn't know we had to have one . Asked the lady politely if they provided them just incase but she ignored my question , rudely said the booking in our name was there but it was the wrong phone number obviously lying as she was trying to hide the clip board . I refuse to be rude to anyone and politely left . Never would I give them my custom absolutely disgusting. Glad I didn't eat there if that's there attitude !!!!!!!!

We booked a table a few days before. We were not informed of their mask wearing policy. On arrival, as soon as we walked through the door, the manager rudely ordered us to wear a mask. He kept saying we had been told and would not have it that we had not been told at all. The man is rude, aggressive and possesses no customer service skills. We walked out. Had he been polite we would have gone to get masks. I will never be returning there.

Excellent visit from start to finish. Polite greeting and booking confirmation followed by standard covid procedure of taking temperature then shown to our seat. We ordered drinks whilst selecting the starters. Drinks arrived and order taken, straight forward with no issues as mentioned in other posts. Food arrived promptly and was piping hot and very tasty, starters, duck and mains. All very good in fact. Overall an excellent birthday celebration topped off with free gifts for the birthday boy and girl. Many thanks to both those who served us and the management, we will definitely be back.

I live local and have been meaning to try it. Didn’t read reviews beforehand. It was a cold welcome. No pleasantries. I felt like I was inconveniencing the manager with my presence, a sentiment that seems to be shared by other reviewers. I had to speak to him a number of times with his back turned before I was acknowledged. He said it’s cash only and I commented that I only had my card and politely stated that it was fine I would have to leave it then. He then checked and card was still possible and so I placed an order. I joked that nobody carries cash these days. This seemed to go down like a lead balloon as I got taught that I should be carrying cash followed by a bit of moaning about why it inconveniences them it in a very serious manner. Order arrived very quickly (around 1 minute from order -> clearly very fresh). Order of egg fried rice, sweet and sour pork and chicken satay. Didn’t find out until I got home that no chicken satay and a different dish in its place. The food itself was very poor. No significant meat in the pork dish, all batter. Decent amount of rice but flavourless. The dish I received in error (think it was black bean chicken) had rubbery chicken that seemed to be the fluid pumped cheap type with a weird texture. I feel harsh leaving this review but this was my genuine experience and I’d rather an Aldi meal.

The restaurant smells a little bit of damp and it could do with a bit more modern decor. At the minute it feels a little bit like an old fashioned living room.The menus are taken away, even when doing the table service all you can eat. This is a bit of a pain as it means you cannot look at what you want next and have to wait for the menu to be given back to you. Would run much smoother if the menu is left with the diners.We got the sharing starter, it was a little bit dry as you can see from the photos. The ribs were extra dry. Nothing new to add that has not already been mentioned, but: rude staff, staggered service, meaning rice and other accompaniments are stone cold before mains arrive, plates cleared whilst people are still eating, food ranging from bland to unpleasant, and dont you dare try and order a drink from the waiting staff. (Our party of 12 was told off twice, and told to go and order at the bar)The nicest part was the birthday cake we brought in ourselves.Tired decor, no atmosphere, gross toilets and a damp/drainy smell throughout the building.Had never been to this place, and having now visited, will never go again. We visited on a Saturday night for the all you can eat menu option. It was busy in the restaurant but luckily we had booked a table. Prawn crackers and dip already on each table, drink orders taken straight away. We has the mixed starter which came quickly although we were disappointed with this, the prawn toast was bland, the ribs had no sauce, a tiny amount of meat in the won ton and no sauce with the satay chicken, the spring rolls were the only enjoyable part of the starter. Duck pancakes were fine for the mid course with enough for 3 per. person. The main meals were tasty but only a small bowl of rice to share between us left us feeling not as full as we expected to be after 'all you can eat'. The service was good and efficient. As others have said the decor is a bit tired, the restaurant was busy and you do feel there is a rush to get food out to get the next customers in but I guess that makes business sense. This isn't the place to go if you want a nice ambient experience but if you are looking for an efficient inexpensive meal then this fits the bill.

We arrived at 4pm for the ‘all you can eat’ option where you order from the menu, not to be confused with the ‘all you can eat’ buffet which is available earlier in the day. All the standard menu items are available and, looking round, they all look good. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, the place was packed and there was that particular hum that suggests others were enjoying it too.

Extraordinary poor food, reminiscent of your worst take away.

Food was very tasty - well cooked and each ingredient was apparent, but portion size depended on cost of ingredients. Anything with rice had LOTS of rice, and not much else. Anything with seafood was small in size, bulked out with vegetables, and not much actual seafood. I get the feeling cost-cutting is going on. A shame because staff are friendly and food is carefully cooked and if good quality. Our family will not be returning however; if we wanted child-size meals we'd have ordered them. Sorry guys.

This was a 70th birthday party for a good friend. This was quite interesting as there were 20 of us eating as much as we wanted. The food is brought to you in stages and there was plenty of it. Everyone chose their starters and main courses. The service was fantastic and the food was very tasty.

I have been coming here for well over 15 years and it’s always been excellent, arguably one of the best Chinese Restaurants around the area.

After reading a few reviews I had decided that this wouldn’t be a place that I would ever go to as the reviews aren’t good. However I met a lovely couple whom had told me to ignore the reviews and give this place a go.

I have visited a few times and can say it was always very good, but the last couple of times have noticed a change, The concept is very good, but have noticed the quality seems to have gone down and food coming out not together, so you have finishe before the rice or other things come out. The batter on the meats is really floury and not as good.

The mediocrity of the food was surpassed only by the rudeness of the manager behind the bar. The place is not in the best repair either inside or out nor is the interior particularly clean.The food is very average but the staggeringly rude and obnoxious nature of the man behind the bar is worthy of special mention. Exactly why he has chosen a career in the service industry baffles me.I can only assume that there were no other opportunities available to him.Or that he was bullied by a series of chefs, waiters and restauranteurs as a child. Whatever the explanation he is clearly determined to ensure that visitors to this restaurant have a poor experience. Something he has succeeded in doing with aplomb.

Visited China Palace last night in a party of 8 for a family birthday meal. Absolutely fabulous! We participated in the all you can eat option, which is not buffet style, it is cooked to order and each dish is brought out separately. We initially ordered a large selection of different starters and shared them. Each dish was completely faultless! Then, as part of the deal, a large serving of duck, pancakes, and fillings is brought to the table. This went down a treat, lasting approx. 5 minutes before we had devoured the serving. We then went on to order mains. Again, we ordered a large amount of dishes and shared them within the party. The food came out quickly and was cooked to perfection. Our personal favourites have got to be the Smoked Chicken, Chicken and Sweetcorn soup, and Salt and Pepper Ribs. There is a large selection to choose from, and you can keep ordering as much as you want on the condition you don't leave a large portion left (which was certainly not an issue for us!). We. continued ordering rounds of drinks (and maybe a few shots!) throughout the meal, which came efficiently. All in all a greta experience and one we will definitely do again! Topped off with a free birthday bottle of wine on the house! I cannot seem to understand any negative reviews. in relation to food or staff. Staff were polite and food was amazing! Will absolutely be visiting again!

Went here in a group of 8 and couldn't fault the place at all - we went for the buffet option (which is served at your table) and the quality of the food was excellent, served hot and at a steady (not too quick) pace. Helpful and pleasant staff, nice surroundings and only £15.00 a head plus drinks. Will definitely be going back again.

It was my first time at that place, and definitely the last one...didn't even have a to try the food there as I was treated really badly by the manager at the bar while I was trying to order my drink... I just asked if they had coke with sugar and he was really rude... When I told him I didn'tike the way he spoke to me he only got worse... My friends tried to calm him down but he was just horrible. He said I shold stop talking so my friends could enjoy the evening, he also kept saying that I may leave... I have never ever had so bad experience at any restaurant. I felt humiliated... Luckily all my friends (9 all together) decided to leave... Now when I decided to write the review I've read all the other reviews and I'm truly shocked that a person like that is the owner of the restaurant... He clearly doesn't know what is good customer service!!!

We went here for my birthday and from walking in to walking out everything was as it should be. The food was superb and not one of the meals we ordered were in anyway a disappointment. The service was also amazing and we will 100% be back again

As regular visitors to the China palace we have noticed that over the last few visits it has gradually been getting worse but last nights was appalling, service was terrible, food was cold when it came out and by the time the rice and noodles came (had to ask 3 times for these) it was stone cold, everything was greasy the sauce on lemon chicken was burnt and brown and the replacement was even worse, all in all a very expensive meal that we couldn't even eat, it will be a long time before we go again, such a shame as this used to be amazing.

Service gone down staff seem reluctant to check if you want anymore, the size of meals has reduced drastically since previous visits, considering the price charged not good value, the sizzling fillet steak dish was appalling, will not go again until overall improvement made

I was very surprised to read a negative review from the lady living in Sherburn, I feel very sorry you had such a bad experience. We have been eating at China Palace many times over the last 10 years and we have never had a bad experience, that must be over 120 times. We've dined alone, with family and even held my husbands 60th birthday there! The staff are always polite and very accommmodatng. We are once refused entry (very politel) because we hadn't been able to book, their hone line had been instantly engaged for 3 days! The man at the front was not rude, and yes there were empty tables, but they had people booked to come in all through the evening, we had t accept it. Best advice I can give, because the food is totally amazing and good value, is to book as soon as you know you'd like to dine there. The staff can't help the fact that it is becoming more and more popular and busy and really, that would not be the case if the staff were rude or the food wasn't good.It is definitely trying again - honestly, we've never eaten such wonderful food!

Our daughters 40th birthday party held here last night. Serious but professional staff, hard working and helpful. Good place for a party the food was really good as always and plenty of it. Many thanks to all. X

I have eaten here a number of times now, the food is average but does vary significantly from visit to visit. Despite the number of servers The service isn't great and it can take a while to catch the eye of someone. The restaurant lends itself to larger groups and parties rather than a couples/ romantic meal.

We went this evening for my daughters 30th birthday. 20 of us and two high chairs. Booked 5pm so the little ones could eat. Arrived early and on time and sat in bar waiting for last couple to arrive. Was being hassled to sit at table. Nobody in restaurant at that time. My husband at the bar ordering drinks. He was tapped on the back and turned round and waitress spilt an entire tray of drinks on him and me and my grandson! He had no time to react! The staff were extremely rude and just cleared up not even bothering that he was wet or me and my grandson. The man behind the bar was rushing him to complete the order, my husband turned round to ask our son in law what he would like to drink and the bar man was so rude to us, asking us to hurry up and finish ordering although there was nobody else around waiting to order! He was the most obnoxiously rude man I have ever come across. He kept pulling nasty faces at us. We didn't want a fuss as it was our daughters birthday. We spent a lot of money that night and have been on numerous occasions! My daughter went to change our baby grandson and there were no changing facilities so waitress opened a room for her to change him in, in the dark which upset him. This same awful man came in shouting at her that she couldn't be in there! I cannot believe how badly they treat paying customers but are happy to have lots of people around ordering takeaways without buying drinks! Safe to say we will not be going there again. This man needs to go on a customer services training course or get out of the business altogether!

Went there on the 9th March for hubbys birthday with some friends. Our treat, first thing card machine was not working, we did not have cash, so we had to ask our friends to lay the money out, First course no problems, second no problems. Then it happened the main course. My meal arrived with the rice, noodles and chips. I had finished eating and hubbys meal turned up, all the rice etc was cold. after a further 15 minutes friends meals arrived. We asked for replacement rice, chips and noodles they arrived after our friends had eaten their mains. Every dish came without serving spoons and we where told we could not have any. When you go you dare no complain because manager shouts and carries on. We will vote with our feet.

Visited on Saturday to celebrate 3 family birthdays and were so disappointed. We booked our table at 7pm but didn’t actually sit down till 7.40, we did mention this to staff but they didn’t seem bothered at all! When we finally got to our table we ordered starters which took around 30mins to arrive and when they did they arrived 1 at a time so we couldn’t eat together. Duck course arrived quickly but when we finished we waited a while to order our mains but they did arrive promptly but it was now 9pm! We found a hair in the food and the curry tasted powdery! We asked to speak to a manager who arrived promptly but when we did she was extremely rude and laughed off a lot of our complaints telling us they had new staff and what do we want from them?! We didn’t want anything just for them to listen to our complaints as our evening was ruined. They did bring out our birthday cakes with a complimentary bottle of wine which was by far the nicest course of the evening. We didn’t leave the restaurant till after 10pm 3 hours after we arrived. We have always been regulars but we will not be returning.

What a brilliant place this is, not what I was expecting as it says eat as much as you want buffet so I was expecting the usual array of dishes under heat lamps but no this was a menu which u chose off, as much as u could eat & 4 diff courses it was amazing! Food served hot & v tasty & plentiful. Their only stipulation is if u leave full meals u pay for them separate which is v fair. 2 adults & a child with drinks £51! Highly recommend

In my opinion the food has dropped from a 5 star to a 4 star but it is still very nice food , 5 of us went , we didn't book , it was no problem and we were shown to a nice table , the staff are all friendly and we had no waiting around , everything was efficient with good service . Our only problem was the dining room was cold , many people were sat eating with their coats on . Their disabled access is excellent and the disabled toilet is all so excellent . I have read many reviews about the manager which were not good , but I have to say he was nothing but nice to us tonight , polite , friendly , helpful , he got the door for us etc , couldn't fault him

Came here with family. We hadn’t booked but the restaurant wasn’t too busy. We were sat at a table quite promptly. Then the drinks order, I asked for a lemonade and a glass of red wine, “in separate glasses” said the manager. (I felt this was an odd thing to say) but yes of course :)

We usually have a lovely time when coming here but I will honestly never return again! When I asked what something was on the menu one of the waitresses told me to hold on one moment, she called over another waitress and they both stood there laughing, I felt that awkward I told them it didn’t matter and to leave what I had asked for! Upon leaving we went to the bar to pay - all fine, as we walked out of the restaurant my partner had his little girl in his arms so was un able to shut the door behind him, the manager stormed out behind us and slammed the doors shut! He was being that loud and rude I thought we had forgotten something and he was shouting us to come back! I couldnt believe how rude he had been so I went back inside to tell him I felt it was very rude! He wouldn’t even look and me and Carried on rushing around telling me I should have closed the door, as I tried to explain my parter had his little girl in his arms all he could tell me was we didn’t have manners!! I feel disgusted we paid £50 to be treat like that. We will not return and I urge others not to put any money into that restaurant.

I’ve been to china Palace a few times and always had great food and service. 3 of us went tonight and ending up leaving before all the mains had been brought out due to the sheer length of time it took for food to come out. We understood that the restaurant was busy, however we were waiting over 45 minutes from the first main being delivered before asking for the bill and leaving.

The manager is properly one of the rudest people I have ever come across. A person in our group complained that the beer was flat and the manager went crazy about it and started shouting and slamming things around. It was very embarrassing of the manager as the beer was clearly flat. Will not be returning!

Feel really let down and feel our custom is not valued.

Only for tonight the meal was very salty, and we left our meal and went to the bar to pay and explained that the food was very salty and turned around as we said it as we didn’t want the other customers to think that we were just complaining and to think the place wasn’t as good! Only to be told “ we use the same recipe and nothing has changed” by the manager and he spoke in a rude manor! Another member of staff said to us “it clearly doesn’t suit you,maybe you should go else where” from this point we were very shocked at the way they spoke to us because of the fact we’re very known in there and it’s rude how they spoke to us. Baring in mind were customers. Should have more respect! Very disappointed this evening not happy at all

Went for a take away, and ordered it in arrival. It was not particularly busy. I took a seat and waited 15 minutes, meals were bought out and given to others who were waiting. One take away was put behind the bar, I asked if it was mine as i was the only one left. "No, I'll tell you when yours is ready" was dismissively barked at me by the manager. I sat and waited another 15 minutes still no food. I asked if the order had been missed? "No it's on the way"

Visited a couple of times over past few weeks. Restaurant is freezing, everyone is sat with coat or jacket on.

For years it’s been high reputable place to eat, attended this evening and we received half our starters 10 mins before the other half turned up, the same happened with the mains however one dish was incorrect but then turned up 15 mins later just as we had finished and another dish was cold. Wouldn’t recommend as the service wasn’t there and the staff wasn’t paying attention to customers needing there assistance. We paid 130 quid for meals that I wouldn’t pay 100 for, be interested to hear from them

Checked website and restaurant was supposed to open at 5 so myself and 6 family members drove 15 mins to find restaurant in total darkness guessing they had decided not to open it was New Year's Day after all but need to update website to save disappointment

We came her on New Years Eve for a family & friends meal. The service was shocking, all the staff are so rude, we waited quite a while for our meals that came out in dribs and drabs and there was a meal missing when asked where it was we was told it was cooking but it clearly had been forgotten about as it took another five minutes. We found all the staff are so rude, hence we won’t be returning!

Tried to book a table by phone. The person who answered was barely understandable and hung up halfway through the 'conversation'. Rang back and told that they were full and did not need our custom. Fair enough. Wont be offering it again!

A group of us had come to celebrate one of our party’s birthday and had a table booked. When we arrived we told them the name it was booked in and they didn’t even have us booked in. The manager was then getting agressive really quick not even apologising for the mistake that was made on their part. Lost out on a good amount of money and a few people that won’t be returning again.

I recently booked here and they had no recollection of the booking and the manger yes "manger" basically told us tough then threatened to kick us out we found it extremely unprofessional as his tone and manner was shocking 100 pound they would have got will not be giving them my custom in the future avoid!!!!

Always find the food to be perfect, booked for a group of 8 table ready when we arrived. Everyone very happy and full when we left. Food was fresh and hot. Great customer service as always. Visit every few months as the kids love it there and often ask to go (6 & 2).

We were there last night. As you enter the venue smells musty. Staff are quick to seat you and take a drinks order The menus are dated and feel really dirty. The food was awful. Nothing appeared to be fresh and it certainly wasn’t hot. Everything was very greasy. The portions are very small, there were ten chips between four of us! We won’t be visiting again and to be honest, it felt very unfair that we had to pay for such poor quality of food.

The 2 people ordering from the main menu were satisfied with their meal. The 2 unfortunates who decided on the all you can eat were less than satisfied.

My wife and I visit this restaurant at least once a month and the food is always excellent, with very warm and welcoming staff. The food and drinks are great value for money, so the place is one to be visited. I would recommend the chicken satay starter and the sizzling fillet steak in black pepper sauce, both of which are delightful. In addition, they make fabulous chips, which I think most restaurants struggle to get right.

All you can eat Chinese buffet!!

Celebrated my 70th with 12 friends, great night, very good food and service.
