One of the good Chinese takeaways in Chelmsford. The food is decent, and the pricing is good as well. Like most takeaways, they only accept cash.

Picked my takeaway last night. I had ordered crispy chilli chicken, special fried rice and a portion of prawn crackers. I started with a couple of prawn crackers. Instead of being crispy they were all soft and the were bendy . The next thing I tried was the crispy chilli chicken. Again the chicken was not crispy and the said chicken inside was so chewy I spat it out. It was a complete waste of money and I will not going back. I have been using the China city for many years and I must admit is has gradually going down hill for sometime. Please note the special fried rice was absolutely lovely.

Crispy duck portions are very less compare to the price. We felt dining in the restaurants like Sans would have been better option.

Terrible food. Was very disappointed. Food was very dry and tasteless. Couldn’t even eat prawn toast as so greasy and chewy. Prawn in batter also very stodgy although prawn ok Ribs very dry and surely just reheated. Will not go back in a hurry.

First time ordering from China City. Absolutely amazing and tasty food. It was clearly cooked fresh and was piping hot on collection. We very rarely eat Chinese food as it can be very greasy , however our order was non greasy, full of fresh veg and super yummy... we will be returning

Ordered duck, noodles and broccoli...Noodles were OK but the duck was so bad. They had put 3 slices of good duck on top. The rest was dry and tasted terrible. First and last time...

Ordered a few dishes, enough for 4 people sharing. Everything tasted the same, full of sugar and vinegar, inedible. My advice is to elsewhere

China City is one of the better Chinese takeaways in chelmsford. The food is good and the don't drench their noodles in soy sauce which some of the others do. They have a wide selection of dishes on their menu and if you order over a certain amount, you get free prawn crackers which is always a bonus.

Local and quick ideal for a week night when you can't be bothered to cook

Always had good food from here but I dont think I will be going back after having chicken sent to me that was uncooked.

A regular treat in. our house, China City has to be one of the best Chinese take aways we've eaten from. My only comment is the crispy chilli beef could be mixed better as sometimes the fried beef sits out of the sauce and has not been mixed in. That being said that is the only slightly negative comment (I can mix it myself). The staff are friendly, food is always piping hot when we pick it up and get it home, and consistently tastes really good. We can definitely recommend: - Prawn Toast - Mini Vegetable Spring Rolls - Lemon Chicken - Crispy Duck and Pancakes - Special Fried Rice - Singapore Fried Rice - Chicken Chow Mein A little bit gutted I'm writing this in the morning and its closed now! I also wish they did Char Sui Buns... for me it would then be the perfect Chinese

Currently housesitting for a family member and decided to order a cheeky takeaway. I’m my 3rd this week from China City! I don’t know what magicians they have working in their kitchens, but it’s the BEST Chinese takeaway I’ve had, and I’ve had a lot!! A special shout out to the Crispy Chilli Chicken A La Peking, which is too delicious for words! I may have to move from Brentwood to Chelmsford just so I can order more regularly, haha.

The worst Chinese delivery i have ever had, Food arrived inedible, placed in the bin whilst it was still hot, will never eat here again, there must be better places to order from

Terrible fone service girl missed a main item off the order as she must not of been listening then called us liers by saying she red the order back to us yet she did not do so

Regular customer. Collection maybe cash only? Chefs special rice and noodle dish. Not up to usual standard. Both Little dry needed sauce added at home. One shrimp. Still well packed dishes.

This would be my 3rd and last time I would order from here. Normally I don't add negative reviews unless it is necessary. Ord red food as usual, missing an item only realised late into the night. Went there next evening, there was one fine lady who was kind and understanding. Since I spoke to her, was interrogated by 3 other staff. And whilst speaking to me they were speaking in a language that I did not understand. Wanted to get out of there, but hey I have already paid !!! Was only expecting an apology since they messed up. Nevertheless, whilst handing over the food, the person said normally they don't hand out free food. Look at the attitude- A. They missed an order which I paid for, B. They think they are doing charity. I had to get my kids to the car before I speak to them. Again the kind lady came apologising, that the person did not meant it in a negative way. That's fine, if you want proof- start taking card payments and giving detailed bill for the food you provide, isn't that the way businesses should be operating. With all due respect to the people who cook good food and the kind people working there, giving the stars for them. Not the kind of place you would go again!!!

Ordered from them dozens of times over the years, mostly because of their proximity. Overall I can say that their Singapore noodles are consistently excellent. Their other mains are usually pretty bland though. Their beef in chili sauce tasted like nothing at all. But good value for money.

Worst food I’ve ever tasted… no taste to the curry and half the stuff missing then they say “you didn’t ask for that” yet I said my order 3 poxy times.. NEVER WOULD GO THERE AGAIN… deffo wouldn’t recommend it to anyone… horrible food and horrible staff

First time ordered from here delivery was fast prices reasonable most of order was nice and tasty, but the sesame seed prawn toast needs a bit of working on I was very thin and oily,,

On one occasion I had one over cooked pancake roll, but all has been great since.

We have ordered food from this place in Broomfield road for the last couple of months because it’s fairly close to us and with favourable reviews and I must say we are very satisfied with the taste, the quantities and the value for money ! When they say the time of delivery they are very accurate and the food is hot and fresh and quite delicious so well done! I like spicier food so mentioned on the phone and sure enough they added a few more chillies so we could enjoy even more!

The best takeaway I’ve ever had, the duck was absolutely perfect with great portion sizes at an amazing price. I’ve ordered from here time and time again and they’ve never let me down.

China city, what can I say. The pengest munch I've ever had. The service was amazing and the delivery has always been on time, sometimes even early. The singapore fried rice was absolutely beautiful, flavours were bussing heavy and their delivery driver Jacky is an amazing guy, always smiling. All I can say is that China city is well known for being the lengest food in ends. Always bangs after all the mandem hit a lick

Food was overcooked or reheated as chicken balls were chewy, I always use Tasty in Springfield rd, larger portions and always fresh. I paid for my lazyness because I was nearby china city.

Ordered a delivery and the female driver called as she couldn't find our address, gave clear instructions and tried to help her. She kept huffing and puffing down the phone and was really rude and asked me to meet her to get the food, defeats the object of being a delivery driver....won't be ordering from here again

Bought a £23 set meal for two. Arrived promptly, well packed and quite hot. Very disappointed. ALL of it tasted stale and am convinced it was warmed up from previous day. Phoned to complain. Got an apology and a reassurance that manager would call for further discussion. Nothing since.

This is the best chinese I have ever been to.

Been using these for over 10 years and by far the best chinese in Chelmsford, all the food has loads of flavour, chicken balls have the right about of crunch on the batter and cooked just right.

If you get home delivery add £2.60 to your bill. Average food.

Good Chinese food, quick service.

Normally our favourite Chinese takeaway. My beef in black bean was inedible. The beef was so chewy I couldn’t even swallow it. I also found a hair in my rice. My son and partner both have bad tummies they had a meal for one. Will not be ordering from there again. It’s a shame it’s really gone downhill.

Decided to order from here as the reviews were good below.. Well I would say this is one of the worst Chinese’s I’ve ordered. Spring rolls were hard and clearly from a cheap frozen packet, chips were like cardboard and the chow mien was even sticking together like it had been sat around for a bit. My partners Singapore noodles were flavourless he said. Order elsewhere trust me.

Ridiculous service this evening. Ordered mixed horderves along with other things and they didn't deliver half of the horderves. When I called them they said "it was too far" for them to bring us the rest of what we paid for. Considering you have to PAY FOR DELIVERY i think it would be fair to bring us what we paid for!! I was offered free horderves with our next order but when I insisted I wanted the food I had paid for I was hung up on. Appalling service. Always ordered from you but won't be doing it again. RUDE

Yeah been here a few times when I'm passing by. Good food, the satay chicken skewed is excellent. Never had to wait too long as a walk in. Comes very hot!

After they said our food would take an hour to be delivered, 1hour an 25mins later our food arrived. Chicken balls were warm at best an very greasy, chow main was dry an they forgot our chips.....worst Chinese in a long time

Always get a lovely meal from China City. Have tried various dishes & never had a bad one. They are quick & efficient when I ring through an order to collect but they do also offer a delivery service I believe. Would happily recommend.

just moved in area and wanted a takeaway we have never had such a bad chinese!!!! the chicken chow mein was sooooo dry strips of dry chicken on dry noodles and pork hong kong style was black!!!!! when i phoned to complain i asked if they used a wok???? because it was so dry and she said all chinese is cooked different??? so be warned!!!!
