China Chef in Woking

Terrible, tasteless, cold, late. We used to have the odd takeaway from here. It was delivered 40 mins late by a very rude driver. The dishes were cold so all had to be reheated. They all tasted the same and very tasteless. The chicken dishes were odd in texture and taste. Overall very greasy and not enjoyable to eat. We have thrown some away. Sadly we will not buy from here again.

Best food I've ever had and staff very nice and friendly

The only positive I have is that it was easy to order online and was delivered on time. The food however I would give less than 1 star if I could. Every meal was drenched in sweet and sour sauce. This was meant to be Cantonese duck, Crispy chilli beef and chicken kung po. It all tasted the same. Very disappointed to spend money on something so unenjoyable.

The Chow mein was chronically under seasoned but the worst was the lemon chicken. I am not sure exactly what they had done, but it was obvious that it was pre-cooked and staged. Worse was that some of the pieces had turned into a charcoal consistency (pictured). If anyone is reading this that cooks a lot, you will know that this is a very difficult thing to pull off without really mistreating the produce to the nth degree! If that was served to me in a restaurant, it would be sent straight back. So, to sum up, we now have very average food but the kicker is that China Chef are way, way more expensive than all the rest of the Chinese takeaways in the Woking area. Do yourself a favour and use someone else. Anyone else. And it really hurts to say that!

Absolutely disgusting service, ordered a takeaway, 3 x Hong Kong Sweet and Sour prawns and they sent Sweet and Sour Chicken, my partner had to give the staff our postcode 3 times and spell out Prawns 3 times, because we complained, we are NOW BANNED, how dare they, they have now collected food and said they would refund us,they had better or they will have a problem, don't ever use them and they are very abusive, should be closed down, totally disrespectful and disgusting.

I have used China Chef for years, most recently it has gone down. My normal dish Chow Mien Chicken has lack any appreciable chicken. Also this evenings dish had a decernable taste of chloride. So sorry it used to be much better. Quality not reflected in the price!

This has to be one of the tastiest Chinese takeaways we have had. Crispy Beef and Chickenin Black pepper sauce were delicious. Satay chicken skewers were served with a lovely peanut sauce. Singapore rice noodles were perfectly cooked. Faultless and definitely worth a visit.

Got very expensive and charge a lot to deliver about 1 1/2 miles away

Food was raw when arrived. Phoned and was told never to order from them again as they wouldn't serve me!! also tried to state I hadn't paid via card when ordered them tried to say I had a fake £20 note when I just wanted too eat and hadn't come up on banking app!! I advise every one avoid

Never see so difficult order food

After hearing recommendations for china chef, we decided to give it a go but it was disappointing. The food was extremely bland, no flavour at all & for the price being more expensive than others we would expect the food to be better.

It is a great shame and saddening to see how this place has gone down in its standards, and it’s prices through the roof !! Had a take away for my wife and I on Thursday, £30 for 2 ! Sweet & sour pork and Prawns with garlic, ginger and spring onion - the pork was almost inedible and the prawn dish was terrible and had no flavour. Not long ago the same meal cost £13/15. This is such a shame as it had been out favourite and go to place when we wanted a Chinese meal.

The only Chinese I will order from, food is always great, and the times I’ve collected they’ve always been polite and quick, can’t fault them at all! There are cheaper Chinese takeaways but the quality shows in the price in my opinion China chef for the best meal!

Disappointed. We have been a regular takeaway customer for years. The Duck arrived as per the photo and was inedible. When we phoned to complain they offered a discount on our next meal. They should have done an immediate refund. As a result we will not go again. Simple decision.

Ordered the same thing I always order, and they got it wrong. Told me it would be another 30 minutes to wait for a replacement. Not interested. Won’t order from here again.

First time ordering from here. Prawn chow meson was very dry even though I requested ‘not too dry’ in comments when I placed my online order. Was easy to order but food was disappointing. I make better chow mein at home. They also do not provide any extra sauce, not even soya sauce.

China Chef in Horsell is a great option for a Chinese takeaway. The food is always fresh and delicious, and the service is friendly and efficient. I've tried a variety of dishes on the menu, and I've never been disappointed. My favorites are the Kung Pao Chicken, the Sweet and Sour Pork, and the Peking Duck. The portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable. I highly recommend China Chef to anyone looking for a great Chinese takeaway in Horsell.

Has this place got new owners in past year or so? Placed an order in online at 5:40pm to pickup 6:30pm which was first slot and they text saying it’s ready at 5:52pm. I get there as soon as I could at 6:10pm. It must have been waiting for me. I had to re heat. Different taste to the chow mein and the chop suey was very runny. Use to be very good. Now just very expensive.

Been ordering deliveries from here for 2 years, tried to order tonight but now apparently don't deliver to my address!!...won't bother again.

Have been getting Chinese from the China chef for 12 years and couldn't fault it before but they have changed the last 2 we have had , sauces are watery, prawn balls have more grey gunk in then prawn and deep-fried shredded beef wasn't sticky and no flavour and prawn toast was burnt ....

This is a Chinese takeaway that supplied some absolutely fantastic food. My wife and I decided not to take on the usual eating out challenge of Valentines night and decided to chose a lovely Chinese takeaway - after many years of good food on occasional times from China Chef, we went for it, it seems to have improved even from our previous experiences. The meet and greet is warm and welcoming, totally feeling that you are being understood. Collected the food in under 10 mins and we both had a great meal. We chatted about it and decided that because of the distinction and quality the food gave, we likened it to the Good Earth - another fine dining restaurant. Just a pleasure to know it’s only 15 mins away for the next time. Enjoy Robert

Had a takeaway from China Chef last night. We have had many takeaways from them over the years and have always enjoyed them. However this time we were very disappointed. Peking duck was dry and the Thai red curry, billed as very hot had no spice at all. It was just a bland sauce with some vegetables and prawns thrown in.

The food was cold and when we phoned they said it couldn't be ..so we must be lying Very bad customer service Asked to bring the food back but it was already in the bin

Tried placing usual order of A1 with plain chow mein instead of the chop suey and chicken balls rather than pork balls (surely no additional cost in terms of time or finance), only to be met with a bundle of attitude on the phone about only allowing one change…..Been ordering from here for years and this has never been an issue, always been accommodated. Never again after this, Canton in Knaphill from now on. Poor service

Just watch with the msgs some dishes un eatable not spice its msg tongue numb heart pallipation & sweats through night highly addictive whatever is going into the sauces in main dishes & rice. appetisers a nice. Very pricey 3 euro each for extras tub sauces.

Normally a good take away but my prawn dish was filled with prawns that I had to de-vein myself. I phoned to complain and they weren’t that interested. Won’t be using them again.

so we ordered bbq sauce and they gave us tomato sauce which is so annoying, also the chips are very dry and the delivery took an hour and 30 minutes. this is a rip off for 40 quid god

Only had cash tried to order on just eat but only excepting card so I phoned them and was asked to phone back in 5 minutes as she wasn’t sure if they were taking cash they had to ask the driver absolutely ridiculous

We've used China Chef ever since they first opened in Horsell (30+ years?) and they have always delighted. Yesterday, they supplied the feast for our large al fresco 55th. wedding anniversary celebration. If anything, despite the perils of our own transportation and re-heating, the food was the best quality we have ever enjoyed from them. Thank you, China Chef, for your wonderful and so cheerful service over so many years and - we hope - many years still to come!

We haven't used China chef for along time. Last time we went we had a meal that wasn't that tasty and didn't smell tempting, so we just go else where, ( not over the road either). Maybe it was just bad luck.

Used to be amazing take away but now delivery is always wrong and food not up to scratch, unsure what type of meat im eating!!

I always order from here as normally really good but this time 14/02/2022 it has given Me food poisoning.So would not recommend around a busy time of year.

Very delicious Chinese food. I ordered three dishes from deliveroo to my house. The food came within 40 minutes so quite fast. I wouldn’t say it’s really authentic as they change the recipes to cater local people’s taste, but the food is tasty. I would rate 4 out of 5 overall.

Shame about the poor reviews on here because that wasn’t my experience. A friendly, efficient lady took my order, the food came within the 30 minutes she advised and it was all absolutely delicious - hot, well cooked and very tasty. Would definitely order from them again

Food is always lovely. Prices can be a little on a high end but service is always good, food is tasty, and staff are friendly.

We ordered again after having ordered yesterday and the hot and sour soup was not sour at all. We phoned and complained and a new soup was delivered within 10 minutes and it was 10 out of 10 again. They were so apologetic and professional and offered a refund or a new soup, we opted for the new soup and we had a note apologising and a free seaweed. The mixed meat curry and roast pork chow main was amazing and I can't praise them enough for rectifying the error. Very impressed and the new soup was as good as it was yesterday.

Quite honestly the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. Tiny portions for huge prices, the dish I chose was swimming in oil so there was very little flavour which was overpowered by the taste of grease. If I wasn't as hungry as I was I wouldn't have eaten another bite, I only managed to finish half of my dish and was left feeling very ill as all I could feel was the oil sloshing around in my stomach. The meat in my partner's dish looked like it was either very old or from some poor sick animal. Do yourself a favour and avoid this place at all costs! 1 star review because at least it came in a box and they didn't just pour it in your lap, but that is the ONLY redeeming feature!

Had the salt and chilli ribs last night , ordered early as I had my grandsons and the ribs were obviously reheated they were so Overcooked to the point they were brittle, very disappointed won't order again

Apparently I ordered an delivery and surprise surprise it was a collection order. I do not collect from home as I expect them to deliver. Waited nearly half an hour then called them back and all I got was a repeating response from the so called answer. Since they never listened I hung up on them and now I am actually reporting them for hiring people that is not really compliant with the working rulings.

Ok food but tried to wing it when we complained about the Spicy Prawns with LemonGrass, this dish was prawns with peppers in a red bottle sauce, YUK

Often order food through just eat. Food was delivered hot and great quality and very tasty! Everytime order food from there, never had any disappointments. Love their prawn toasts, wontons which has real prawn inside unlike other chinese. Always order mixed meats with rice which none other chinese offers.

We ordered 8 dishes and we only enjoyed one of them and rice.

My order is 2 hours 20 minutes late so far. Phone engaged for over an hour. Regular customer with Ring, so no issues finding me. Order confirmed by email. Don’t take orders you can’t deliver or at least have the courtesy of calling me. Really really poor.

Waited 2 hours for delivery that didn't arrive, had to go and collect from cold shop. Waited in the shop for a further 45 minutes. Shop was very busy, no social distancing at all. Will not be ordering from there again.

An outstanding chinese takeaway - hot and sour prawns were delicious, duck tender and superbly cooked, spring rolls light and crispy. Great value and swift delivery. Highly recommended.

Food was ordered at 7pm, deliveroo delivered it 8.45. the curry was rancid and a mush, the noodles were so greasy you couldnt eat them and the duck was the same. Went in the bin, it would make you ill.

I have in recent months found the chinese take aways in woking to be less than awe inspiring. However finally I have had a great chinese takeaway from the China chef this friday just gone. The food was hot, a good portion and each dish had excellent flavours. the dishes were so nice and the family really enjoyed it. I shall definitely use this service again and I hope they can replicate the service yet again. well done China Chef!

This place is truly amazing! The most delicious and tasty Chinese food I have ever had. The service is incredibly fast and delivered HOT. I regret not having cash to give the delivery guy a well deserved tip, I feel really bad. MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED my granddaughter introduced us to it she has used it for years. We ordered during lockdown to celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary and we weren’t disappointed. The food arrived, lovely and hot. Nothing but praise. Will definitely use them again.

Went in there and placed the order and it was all done in minutes. Got home and finished it all off in less than 15 minutes. The food tasted very nice and very tasty. Brilliant place to go to but haven't been there for a while. Think its now back on the weekly radar.

We ordered food from here on a busy Friday evening. Their menu was extensive. On arrival to collect there was a ten minute wait, no problem at least the food was freshly prepared. The veg spring rolls were rather tasteless but spare ribs good. Our main courses all were excellent although not sure we had the correct prawn dish. Portions were generous but prices on the high side. This seems a reliable and popular take away.

My family and I have been ordering from the Horsell China chef for roughly 8 years, they are always lighting fast with the food, it's always arrived piping hot! And the food is delicious! I can't imagine ever ordering anywhere else, keep up the good service!

Very very disappointed as I've had the same order for yrs They've gone down hill I ordered egg fried rice got the taste of boikd rice tiny fragment of egg.. The shreded smoked chicken was my all time fave Is no more it was flashed fried and soggy my was 23pd including delivery That's not going to happen again... I had friends saying that aren't great and I disagreed always So now I agree I willnt be ordering from them again plus they've ordered smaller containers I had a word with them they didn't diny it but couldn't say to much either...

Amazing food been ordering from here for the last 20 years!!!

It seems the price of a takeaway here has soared. We only get a takeaway once or twice a year but were shocked at the cost of almost £50 for a couple of starters and mains. Very, very salty and greasy which I didn't expect. Woke up with a headache and dry mouth from all the salt in the food. Wouldn't bother again. Used to be so good but has really gone downhill.

We wasted over £80 on an congealed, unappetising take away from China chef in Horsell. By the time we had collected the food, we only live 5 mins away, it was luke warm and awful. The crabmeat soup didn’t have any crabmeat in it, the seaweed tasted of plastic and the duck was mainly bones. The sweet and sour chicken was like orange lumps of fat. Really poor, really expensive and most of it went in the bin. Won’t bother ever again.

Don’t understand some of the reviews on here, always been first class food for me. The butterfly prawns are exceptional and ribs great too.

We have been using the same Chinese for years. Have tried others but never been as good. I always have dumplings not all Chinese take always offer them and they are amazing!!! And to add to it the delivery is always speedy and food is still hot
