This is a true traditional country pub. We came back in for dinner with family having dropped in for lunch on our last trip to north devon. We were greeted with the same quick and friendly service we had before. My husband was happy to see Exmoor gold on the bar, which was not there on our last visit. The portions were hearty and delicious. The pub was fully booked and had lots of local drinkers giving it such a lovely buzz. Our only negative, the car park is too small and the parking a little questionable! Honorable mention for the young lady sat at the bar, possibly the managers wife? who helped my mother in law get out of her space. We will certainly be back and changes to the bar are A+ from us!

We were a little late making a decision but luckily we were able to book a table for 2 last Sunday. Jules and I were a little early but met with a friendly welcome and our table was made ready. I had the turkey whilst Jules went for the slow belly pork. Crackling (excuse the pun!) meals with cauliflower cheese, peas, carrots, broccoli, roast onion, stuffing etc. Very well presented and tasty meals. Great selection of beers available on tap with a very good wine menu. Very enjoyable experience and will return again soon. A special thanks to Alex who served us and was very attentive.

Takeaway Roast today , excellent roast ordered online with a slot to collect I couldn’t fault the service . Text message sent when to collect . Food ready when I arrived and it was delicious pork belly was amazing and a great selection of veg very generous portions can’t wait to get my next one

This is my second visit to this pub. I'm not local but chose it last year to meet up with a couple of friends. We liked it so much we chose it again this year. We visited on a Sunday and chose the roast that was on offer. It was quite simply the best roast I've had at any pub. Ever!! I had the belly pork, as did one of my friends. The other friend chose turkey. The meat was perfectly cooked. The accompaniments almost filled the plate before the veg had arrived. There were 6 different vegetables, and plenty of them, and a large boat of gravy. The taste was just superb. We didn't really have room for dessert but it had to be done. We each went for the lemon cheesecake with ice cream. Another delight! If you like great food and a wonderful welcome with brilliant service, you must call at The Chich!!

Went for Mother’s Day lunch as usual excellent service food was fantastic as always even though the place was very busy it made no different very good service quality of the food was second to none recommend this pub in as the best in north Devon

First off there was a lady vaping at the bar, that’s just a big NO ever especially when there are children in there. steak was bland, undercooked to what I asked for and everything else that it came with was bland , my partners dinner tasted like it was a pre-made from Tesco, but most of the staff were nice

After a week of camping in a wet and muddy north Devon, ‘The Chich’ welcomed us with open arms- welly boots, grubby dog and probably a slight smell of the unwashed included. It is a warm and welcoming pub obviously loved by locals, the staff are brilliant especially Sam. The food is very tasty- lots to choose from and great portion sizes. Wifi to entertain the kids, clean loos and even the dog got water and treats. Easy to park in the carpark, views are spectacular out the front with a little terrace and tables. Thank you ‘The Chich’ for a wonderful end to our soggy holiday. We’ll be back!

We found this place last time we were in Devon on holiday and couldn't wait to re visit. We booked a month in advance and there was only one time slot available which says it all. We love our Sunday roasts and are always trying different places to find the perfect one. We'll look know further as this is it! The plate comes out with your choice of meat, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and roast parsnips on it. The veg then arrives in separate dishes, peas, carrots, brocoli, swede, red cabbage, cauliflower cheese and a jug of thick gravy. The food is all cooked to perfection and was absolutely delicious. The pub does get extremely busy so if you are looking for a quiet meal you won't find that here as the quality food draws in the crowds. We will definitely be returning once again next time we visit the county.

Perfect setting with great atmosphere, wood burner a bonus. Food 5 * service 5* regular visitors to the area but first time eating at this restaurant. Do not miss it if you are in the area, we will definitely return

We had high hopes for this place after many recommendations so there was a lot to live up to. We were a large party and most of us had starters but the gluten free options weren’t very exciting so I didn’t. Apparently the calamari was lovely and well received. For mains we nearly all had steak and all of us found it very chewy, which for the price, we were expecting a lot better. It was our first meal out all together as couples so we didn’t kick up a fuss. The service was very good and the staff friendly but I found the dark atmosphere and low ceilings quite claustrophobic. I would imagine it’s better on a cold winters day rather than the end of summer. I don’t think I would go again, seemed expensive for average food.

This wonderful pub is fast becoming one of my favourite places to eat out. The food is absolute perfection. Great traditional food cooked beautifully. This is the second time my daughter and me have eaten here. It is the loveliest, friendliest, pub. We showed up without a booking today and they fitted us in on a table that was free for 90mins. The food was plentiful and tasty (peas could have done with minting... but that's just me being awkward!) The lovely chaps on the bar - I assume the landlords, as they served us last time too? Were really friendly and attentive - brought drinks and food directly to us, and checked on us several times to make sure everything was alright. My daughter, who has autism, often finds places overwhelming, and didn't have the best experience at The Chichester on our first visit, due to some other customers - (NOTHING that the staff could have changed, and we didn't make them aware at the time either,) however, she asked to go back, because the food and welcome was so warm. We were absolutely NOT disappointed this time, and will definitely recommend The Chichester Arms to others.... Going to try a Sunday Roast next time...... Get them homemade Yorkshires cooking!! ha ha

This pub is great! It is very friendly, great drink deals and Beebox music app system. You can choose and play songs/music from the Beebox app. They have pool table and live sports TV. It has been refurbished and is under new management. Please come along you won't be disappointed!!

Thank you Shaun , Pascoe and team , last night we celebrated my husbands 60 birthday and hired the den bar for 50 friends . We have not been in a while and we’re very pleased to find that things have not changed. It was quite busy but our table was ready and waiting for us. Staff were very attentive without being “in your face” and happy to replenish our drinks when needed. Very good selection of local produce meals on the menu and all reasonably priced. We all really enjoyed our evening and very happy to recommend to others, so much so we have decided to book our Christmas staff party there this year.

Had not been to the chich for a while so decided it was time to return and give it another go. Previous meals had been excellent, and this time was no different. The guys in the bar were both welcoming and friendly. The only thing that upset me was that there was no steak and ale pie left, my very favourite !!! So scampi and chips it was, with the wife having the liver and mash. Both meals were lovely. Really nice and warm and lovely atmosphere.

I had read about the Chichester Arms via accommodation info as I was visiting Bishops Taunton & the North Devon area for a holiday. As this pub was conveniently located on the same road to where I was staying. I popped in & confirmed dogs were allowed & asked whether a booking was needed in order to eat, I was advised booking was advisable but there was availability for that evening depending on the time I intended to eat. I was flexible with my timings so was happy to take a table knowing it was booked from 7.30pm so there was time for me to eat and vacate it before the booked time. I came back approx 40 mins after my initial enquiry & was shown to the back section of the pub where it seemed most tables were set for larger groups but was happy to have a table free. On looking at the main course menu, there was an extensive choice available but only 2 vegetarian options. I asked my server about both of these and decided to chose the veggie chilli. There were no extras on the specials board as noted 1 shown as Spinach & Ricotta cannelloni but this was the other dish already listed in the mains section so no additional veggie options for choice. The chosen meal was tasty enough but I feel there could have been more of the actual chilli as it felt like a bowl of nachos with melted cheese, 2 servings of salsa, 1 serving of sour cream and guacamole and then the chilli in the middle. Although there was no issue with the service, I think the options for vegetarians should be widened and re-consider the balance on a meal like the one I chose as not convinced it was worth the price for what was mainly nacho crisps with a few toppings, it’s possible the spinach and ricotta cannelloni may have been better value for money. I was grateful that this pub was dog friendly and that I could be accommodated and have a reasonable meal of sorts after a long drive to North Devon without having to venture further a field on my first day in the area. My overall rating is boosted by the service as had that not been welcoming, I would have said my visit was ‘average’

Not hot enough to savour the delicious roast beef and numerous veggie sides. Staff very welcoming, food delicious apart from temperature. Would’ve eaten lots more apart from that. Cheese board for 2 was great and very reasonably priced. Will be back with extra heating request. 😂

What a delightful "local". Such a rarity in our part of the world, so much appreciated whilst on our holiday in North Devon. Atmosphere, service, beer and particularly food were all exceptional. We followed Trip Advisor recommendations for Sunday lunch in the Barnstaple area and were not disappointed. Be sure to book ahead as there aren't too many tables and this is, rightly, a popular venue.

Had a fantastic meal yesterday. I had the pancake with beef with horseradish and blue sauce with fries and my partner had the duck in berry sauce with side salad and fries. We had a lovely bottle of Rioja to accompany it. Everything was so tasty and we had the best service from Bruce. We could not fault our time there and an added bonus as they accepted dogs. Will definitely return ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Without doubt , the bacon and cheeseburger the Chichester puts on , is the finest I have ever tasted. Cooked to perfection , succulent and oh so tasty. I know the same can also be said for the Calamari. As the reputation of this place grows, getting a table here is going to get harder and harder ; seriously, get in and see what everyone is talking about whilst you can This incredible menu is complimented by an amazing and dedicated team

This is probably the best pub in Devon, maybe in a larger area but I don't get out much any more. I have been coming here for 30 years & it has never failed to please except when they had the devastating fire & it took a while to refurbish, in very good period taste. A visit here for food and/or drink is well worth it.

Outstanding food, huge portions for price. Can't see how they make money! All tasted amazing. Would recommend the Thai fishcakes, they were my highlight. Only issue was we were too stuffed for dessert, we will be back though!
