Cherry Valley in Huntingdonshire

Had two visits here now, first was very good as in the service, friendliness and relaxed atmosphere. The food seemed very good value and of good quality. Our second visit was not so good, they were very busy, especially with takeaways, food quality and presentation wasn’t so good at all. Not all the food was hot and although staff were friendly etc, service was very slow. It was also very cold in there. The main thing for me - I didn’t feel that well afterwards, for a few days. We sadly wouldn’t return.

Takeaway was largely inedible... ended up in the bin. Did not respond when sent an email. Just a waste of money.

Bean curd with green pepper and black bean sauce was inedible and ended up in the bin. The beef curry was extremely salty, but edible. The chips were cold and greasy, clearly not cooked to order.

Great value for money all you can eat £24. Staff friendly. Definitely go again.

Fantastic food, definately the best chinese in the area! I was there with a group of 7 and it was great that there was a seperate area upstairs for larger groups. The food all came out hot and delicious. There was a great range of food to choose from, I particularly enjoyed the chicken and cashew in yellow bean sauce and the prawn curry. Service and atmosphere was great, I really dont have anything bad I could say about this place! I will definately be coming back!

Excellent food. Staff good but some confusion from them about what we were asking early in our stay made us feel a little unwelcome.

I was absolutely disgusted by the quality of the duck and sesame seed toast should’ve been called soggy duck, not crispy and soggy seeds not toasted spent £40 on an order and gave half of it to my dog and even he looked a bit dissatisfied and all they could say was sorry no refund or a reorder. Just sorry !!! on a good note. Quick delivery food was still hot prawn crackers were delicious

Booked a table at the last minute and had to wait half an hour but have to say it was well worth the wait. They understood that my daughter had severe allergies and were careful to advise on what she could and could not eat. All the dishes we ordered were hot, delicious and we ate the whole lot. Probably should have ordered another couple of dishes. We had noodles, rice, chicken, pork, beef and duck. Totally yum!

Lovely Chinese restaurant and the all you can eat buffet is by far the best around

This is the first time we have been to this restaurant. There are two dining options a la carte or fixed price 'buffet' menu. We went for the fixed priced menu. There are various 'courses' that you order from in turn. You can order as much as you want from each course before moving on to the next course, once you have left a course you cannot go back to a previous course. The food was excellent, all freshly cooked. I had 5 starters and my wife had 4 before we moved on. The food was hot, succulent and very tasty. The portion sizes were just right so that by the time you finished the mains you were full. I don't know if they do desserts or how good they are because I was already full by then. The service was brilliant. Friendly and available but not pushy. We will be going again

Gone downhill these days, everything is full of salt. The mixed starter used to be the highlight and would enjoy having a bit of everything and then re ordering favourites for a second starter course. The first starter is enough now. I remember when the ribs were meat and not just fat. Beer is usually warm from a can and it's Carlsberg, they've even stopped serving with chopsticks. I usually wake up gasping for water all night as I'm so dehydrated from all the salt and vow to never return. This time I won't be back

Young man that served us was great but food was bland, veg garnish was dry and looked days old, could of hydrated it in water to give better look. Cucumber for the duck was about a cm thick and dryed out witch is a surprise when cucumber is mostly water will not return will stick with the welcome round the corner witch I have never had a bad word to say about, only reason we tryed this place is because the welcome is closed Mondays.

Situated in the charming Old River Port town with its holiday atmosphere this lovely venue is small but full of character. The food was amazing and the choice extensive at very reasonable prices considering the quality and quantity served by very efficient and friendly staff.

I'm a regular here, and they never fail to amaze me with the amazing food, service and portions. The people who run it are lovely, and they are super quick with their delivery. I highly recommend trying it! I especially love their Pad Thai!

Ordered beef with mixed vegetables take away got beef. Got charged £1 above the menu price for the beef too...

We visited the restaurant on the 6th April 2023 for an evening ‘all you can eat buffet’ with approx. 20 work colleagues. We ordered our starters and after a long wait of about an hour the starter arrived, after this we ordered the duck course which again resulted in long wait of approx. another hour. After the duck course we ordered our main courses, three members of staff had to leave before the main course arrived. Most of the dishes did not arrive and this resulted in one colleague eating a bowl of dry rice. We were in the restaurant for three hours and had a small starter, duck and one small main each, my colleagues were still hungry there was not the time to order more main courses. This was at the cost of £22.00 a person and if I had eaten off the main menu my meal would have been larger and also cheaper. It was felt that the service was slow so we couldn’t eat much. We asked for a partial refund as we were charged full price for a service we didn’t receive and as previously stated some of our party only had a starter and duck. I sent an email complaining on two occasions that were completely ignored and when I chased this I was told the matter was closed as it was too long ago to investigate and the bill had been paid. There was no explanation or apology for the slow service or the fact that many of the main courses didn’t arrive, so we were left to eat and share what was bought to the table.

Can't fault the waitresses, worst Chinese i ever had, the only thing that resembled a Chinese was the plum sauce

First time trying out the little Gem, we will be back. Everything we tried was delish,services was great.

Superb quality and tasty food cooked to order in minutes, with excellent waiting staff. Nothing else required. That's why I keep coming back 25 years later.

We have been coming here for a few years now and the food is always EXCELLENT! The mixed starter is by far the best bit about coming here, just delicious. We are always so full after starters and duck that we struggle a bit with the mains! The only negative I will say is that (certainly upstairs, where we are always sat) there is very little atmosphere. No music playing in the background. Just make sure you go with chatty people who are going to have a good laugh.

I have been coming here for years, and although not of a high class restaurant wise, the food and service have now gone back to being excellent. The “all you can eat” menu is fantastic, with all courses cooked perfectly, and each course has something for everyone. Price is good for this too, as a cheap takeaway would charge more for less with lower quality. Well done for getting back on track after the departure of Peggy and Dan

Like the cherry valley staff are lovely and helpful. Food is good price is good. Keep going back so I think that speaks for itself.

Eaten here before and they have a small but excellent gluten free menu (I’m Coeliac). It was my Birthday meal and was very much up to our expectations. We nolonger live in the area and really miss this place as there is nothing similar where we live now.

Cherry Valley is the best Chinese in St Ives cambs. The food is great, but what really sets it apart is the service which was excellent. Would highly recommend the buffet nights!!!

We had the buffet meal option. Eating in with two children. The staff were great, food was hot and each course arrived quickly. There was a fantastic range of starters which we ended up having two lots of. We skipped the soup. The duck was really lovely and a good portion size for 4. For mains we had noodles, egg rice, sweet and sour, chili shredded beef, and beef in black bean sauce. All was freshly cooked, hot and tasted really lovely.

Not a patch on the previous 15yrs visiting here. This is the second time been so very disappointed, once on an eat in family get together visiting, this time take out for a family birthday family get together! Flavourless, missinging items, and Grease residue! all left a not very nice tangy after taste !!

Ordered from here for delivery quoted 1hr-1:15min. Waited 1:20mins to then say they can't deliver. Enough said.

There seemed to be a lot of MSG in the food, happy to be corrected though. I spent the night feeling unwell and very thirsty after a visit. I normally don't feel like that after a Chinese. The staff were lovely and great service.

Went last month and was an amazing experience for the family. We got the A La Carte buffet, since we saw squid (our favourite dish) on the menu and were hoping to have as much as possible of it (we did, and it couldn’t have been better quality!). For those who want to know a little more about the buffet system, first of all they will ask you which starters you want ‘extra’ of - they will give you a large platter of all of the starter items they offer and give you extra portions of the starter items you requested (so beware, you’ll have to try and finish off the rest of the starters you may not necessarily have ordered so keep space for the main courses etc). The staffs were all very cordial and knowledgeable about the food. All the food in general was of brilliant quality - and for the buffet, you’re definitely getting your moneys worth (and more, in my opinion) Would 110% recommend this restaurant!!

Avoid. Service was friendly but food was appalling and no money offered off the bill when we complained about our dinning experience. Massively disappointed

Second visit, good both times. Did the buffet, starters are a mixed plate of about five different choices. Followed by a soup course, crispy duck and then the main. To be honest it's a feast so make sure you are hungry. Food all tasty and fresh

Tasty food, friendly staff, buffet good value

Four of us ordered the buffet meal which was really very filling and ended up being more expensive than ordering off menu. Reading other reviews I was quite glad that the main courses were smaller but I have never ordered from the a la carte so would hope that those portions would be bigger? The food was very good but I probably wouldn’t order the buffet again.

Was looking forward to having a Chinese. Celebrating a 60th birthday 12 of us. I was made to feel like I was an inconvenience due to my allergies. 1 they could cater for me being coeliac but my other allergies no! Everything was pre marinated. In the end they managed to do me some mixed starters. I refused to eat anything else after. Service was slow and not very good. Parts of it they forgot to bring out the vegetarian aspects of it. They brought a warm bottle of rosè but the other end of the table they brought out a chilled bottle of rose. Waiting staff didn't know if it was beef or lamb in black bean sauce. At the end they tried to charge me £22 for the meal. We questioned it in the end I paid half price. Unfortunately we won't be going back.

Has to be the smallest dishes and plates in the entire world... compared to a typical Chinese restaurant dine in experience the portions were ridiculously small. We asked the server for more of one particular dish which never arrived - given its an unlimited buffet that was a very poor outcome. There are plenty of decent Chinese restaurants in St Ives I struggled to appreciate what they were achieving by such mad small plates that belonged in a dolls house. Food quality was way South of The Welcome Chinese and others in St Ives. They obviously have a strategy with the buffet deal but who knows what that is. We live in St Ives and support businesses as much as we can but this was a poor experience and the quality went hand in hand with it. I'm simply saying the buffet option is perhaps best avoided.

Great hosts and the food was very nice

Meeting up with two ex-colleagues, we had the buffet which was delicious reasonably priced and served efficiently. The portions were quiet large (smaller would have been preferred so I could try more dishes). Very tasty Chinese food and coeliac (gluten free) diet catered for well. Will be returning sometime soon!

Cherry Valley has got to be hands down the best Chinese in East Anglia... I would say the whole country however I haven't been to too many! Always bring the family here for them to enjoy the food! Cherry Valley is on top

Nice buffet style all you can eat meal at a reasonable price. Pity about other patrons being incredibly noisy and the bar across the street pumping out such a loud bass.

Twice now the buffet has been taken off the menu. This time it was because we were too late……8.40 on a Friday evening too late for a restaurant?When peg and Dan had this place, you couldn’t get a table at 9pm on a weekend.Now the place was dead.Leave this place alone now. New management have run it into the ground in just 6 months.Such a shame, but it’s just finished now

Amazing quality Chinese food. So tasty and the range and price for the buffet was great.

Firstly, the food was fine once we had it. We were a table of four people and ordered half of crispy duck and pancakes as a joint starter. When it eventually came there was a decent sized plate of duck but only 9 pancakes (2 each and one left over). The hoy sing consisted of a very, very small dish with about two teaspoons of sauce. After requesting some extra pancakes and sauce (a similar amount of hoy sing was provided so a further request for enough for four people) we finished our starter in two shifts. After some delay, two main courses arrived and were getting cold while we waited for the other two to appear. The waitress told us that there would be a delay of around five minutes - we suggested that all four of us would prefer to eat at the same time and asked to talk to the manager. When she arrived, with an apology, she said that they were very busy due to a large party downstairs - this turned out to be a table of eight ladies (hardly unmanageable). The food was OK but eating in shifts was not what we had planned. Drinks were very expensive (£3.40 for 30cl of bottled beer - around half a pint). Overall, not an experience that we wish to repeat. There's a very nice Turkish restaurant on the opposite side of the road.

I love coming here with my partner, the food is always fantastic and the staff are incredibly polite and welcoming. The starter platter is amazing, the squid is my favourite!!!

Just had a fantastic meal here, we had the buffet meal. For £20 a head they delivered the tastiest top quality menu we have ever had in any Cantonese restaurant. It was impossible not to want to try everything but since it was all so tasty you couldn’t possibly not finish every single course. Every staff member was super attentive and extremely friendly. Can’t recommend this place enough and the perfect finish to our mini break in St Ives.

What an absolute find! We stumbled across this place at 6.30 on a sunday evening when it was throwing it down and we hadn't booked a table (our intended destination let us book a table for 8 and failed to tell us they stopped serving food at 6). Thankfully Cherry Valley managed to pull some tables together upstairs and after a few short minutes to ensure we were Covid safe we were escorted to our table. I can honestly say this is the best meal I've had in a long time, really fresh, quick and tasty and even the fussy kids ate enough to be rolled home! It's a shame we were only in St Ives for a brief holiday because this place would definitely be our local. Extra little mention for the staff who were really engaged and interested in where we were visiting from and what we'd managed to see while in the area. Customer service really does set such a great atmosphere from the start. The kids were especially grateful for not one but two lollies each to take home! Thank you so much we had a fabulous family meal.

Bring back Peggy!Went here last night, it was busy, but given a table.Went to order, and they wanted us out within the hour.Only would let us have the al la carte menu, so just trying to money grab.This place used to be amazing, but with incompetent staff, this place place will go to the dogs very quickly.You can see it already.The food maybe good, but the staff used to make this place great.Not anymore. Great restaurant starters were delicious the squid was great the fantastic sweet chili sauce delicious the mains were great the special noodles was very tasty the portions was large which was a pleasant surprise the staff were very nice and very helpful overall if you were in the area this restaurant is a must visit u won't be disappointed top quality.

We were searching for somewhere to eat as we hadn't booked anywhere. Although it was busy, the lovely lady still managed to squeeze us in. The service was fast , good choice on the menu. Food was delicious, portion generous. Reasonable priced. Would definitely recommend. 10 out of 10

Outstanding l the food served at this place is sound of the nicest food I have ever had in a restaurant. Hands down the best Chinese I've ever had in my life. This experience only gets better when you consider how good the staff are here at their job. The service is second to none they work as a team and there is nothing that they wouldn't do there is nothing that would be too much for them they are dedicated to making their customers have the best experience that they can possibly have and their food is just outstanding it's just incredible. I couldn't recommend this place enough I just don't know how to describe how good the food and the service is here you will just need to come and eat here to experience it for yourself. It is an eat as much as you like buffet but but they cook for you and the food is fresh. It isn't like a conventional buffet where you take the food yourself this food is cooked to order but you eventually go through starters mains and so on with an unlimited amount each time but you can't go back. So if you are on your mains you can't go back to starters and having a limited amount of food for that if that makes sense.. I can't think of anything bad to say about this place

From ordering to getting home and eating, all was fantastic. The food was up to the usual high standard and the service was of the highest quality. Had been looking forward to this all week and they didn't disappoint. The two girls who dealt with me were great and very welcoming and my two little girls really loved the lollies they were given.

This was our first takeaway from the area since moving house. So happy it was a success! Can’t beat a tasty Chinese takeaway who delivers to your door! We ordered crispy duck, black bean beef, noodles and rice, all arrived hot and full of flavour. Meat also tasted of good quality. Thank you cherry valley, you’ve got a new regular customer :)

Just had the most amazing take away. The beef was so tender and would strongly recommend the spicy special noodles sambal! Delivery was spot on time.

This restaurant has brightened up over recent years and is now a very attractive environment in which to enjoy very good Chinese cuisine. Their set dinners are very good value and will easily fill you up. Each dish is freshly cooked and none are drowning in sauces. Service is swift and friendly and Covid safe. You will need to book.

We ordered a takeaway last weekend. I have to be honest and say it was awful...the chow mein was black with the excessive Soy Sauce and didn’t have any mixed meat that we asked (and paid for). The egg fried rice was dyed yellow and a throw-back to the 70s. Prawn Toast, while generous, was soggy and not pleasant. The SS Chicken Canton was the strangest (and worst) offering.We we genuinely disappointing and none of our food resembled some of the beautiful pictures!! Avoid takeaway.
