Had really great supper .Most personable young man served us.Always enjoy the food ,and have had several Xmas meals here also

We celebrated our 50th Anniversary at the Chequers with all our family to recreate our wedding reception all those years ago and it didn’t disappoint. Cameron and Mark made sure everything went perfect and the meals were delicious. Highly recommend a visit. Thank you Cameron and Mark for making our day special.

Nice menu and good service. All of the food we ordered was cooked to a high standard. Reasonable prices. Would recommend.

Nearby so ideal and is cosy. Asked what drinks when waitress checked our booking on screen. Menus and drinks arrived at same time, food was hot and tasty, waitress Sarah was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. Good vibe.

Wow just had a very lovely and pleasent evening meal at The Chequers Pub. The food was amazing, staff were friendly and polite and was good value for money. Will definitely be going back with family and friends.

I normally only post reviews on here when I have received a great meal and service. However this is my first negative review. How at 12 o’clock on a Sunday lunchtime can our 2 meals be served cold?? Even after sending them back, one came back tepid warmth and the Roast still cold….Meals and service appalling, so please beware if you expect the normal quality and service from the Chef and Brewer chain.

We arrived to find the place looking very tired from outside Inside it’s the same. We had booked table but only a few other customers in there on a Saturday evening. Last went about 10 yrs ago when it was busy The place is in need of some serious refurbishment We were shown to a dirty seat in a bay window which was totally torn worn out so I chose to sit on the grubby cushion I placed over it - the bay windows were covered in dirt inside. Looked like no cleaning for some time The food was just about passable - my partners meat pot contained just 4 very small pieces of beef. Staff were fair but they are flogging a dead horse in this place and I would not go back - its up to Chef and Brewer to make some serious changes Overall most disappointing - money wasted.

We were disappointed to find that one of our favorite pubs had really gone downhill when we visited for the first time in five years. The place was really grubby and the food was poor. The steak pie was truly awful - hardly any meat in it. The miniature dessert with coffee was terrible - dry sponge and a smear of custard with a squirt of cream masquerading as sherry trifle. We will never go back and I fear for its future.

Just disgusting from start to finish, service awful, food terrible do not bother to go. Also, we were all ill the next day with stomach problems. My husband told the waitress of some issues at the end and they were ignored

Met my friend here on Tuesday night wasn't very busy but the two ladies on shift that night were wonderful ( sorry didn't get their names ) and the food was fantastic. We will be back soon

We often come here for a meal normally mid-week. Sarah and Lucy always serve us and they are both great, food is good as well, decor is a bit tired but of course the staff can't change that, this is the only thing that let's the chequers down, just needs a bit of tlc but other then that it's perfect.

Came here for Easter Sunday, we have visited previously and wasn't very impressed, but this visit was great. Good service and food and a lovely new menu, would recommend a visit.

We are frequent customers here and we have never have a bad visit. Until Today, sadly. The bar and restaurant had very little customers, whilst we stood waiting to be seated , for what seemed like hours, I asked the bar person if we could sit anywhere. She curtly responded that I wait. We were soon seated by another person, who just ordered us to “follow” menus were placed in-front of us along with daily specials list. The waitress did not communicate or “sell” the dishes offered. We ordered a bottle of red which was plonked on the table along with glasses - again with no verbal communication from waitress/bar person. Considering the place was empty we felt like an inconvenience to the two girls, who clearly did not want to be ‘working’ Our food unfortunately was not up to its usual high standards- was chef on holiday? One meal arrived cold with very little gravy. We requested more gravy for our meals, which we had to remind the waitress about- when it arrived, the gravy boat was slammed on the table, with the waitress walking off, no verbal communication just stroppy body language. There was no ‘check back’, so we couldn’t raise our disappointments about our meals. After paying for our meals, we were politely expressing our concerns to a new member of staff who was just starting his shift. As we described how rude and stroppy the waitresses were, one of the girls interrupted our conversation and completely ignored us - thank you for validating and demonstrating our complaint about unprofessional and unacceptable customer service. This place usually has happy, customer focused staff who clearly understand how important their roles are. - The two female staff working this afternoon unfortunately let the rest of the team down and thus may have a negative impact on your reputation.

We have been here in years, so we thought let’s give it a go as it was poor last time . We didn’t book as it was a spur of the moment visit, the staff were really friendly and helpful, we just explained it was just a little lunch that we required, the food was lovely and massive mark up from our last visit. Definitely recommend for lunch and we will try an evening visit in the future. Good food at a good price and good service. So it’s a 👍’s up from us . Well done to all the team.

20 friends from our walking group had a wonderful lunch today, the food was excellent and we all got served together by excellent waitresses Sarah and Daisy, thank you so much for a most enjoyable lunch.

As living locally to the chequers, I come here quite often and never have any doubts! Staff are always helpful and friendly and food is always served to a delicious standard. Would recommend.

WHAT A SHAME!!!! - The Chequers has for decades been a great place to go for a drink and meal. It has/had everything:- A lovely building, good location, big car park. On Saturday, having enjoyed club dinners here before, members of our sports club had booked for dinner for 14. It was a while before our orders were taken, then about an hour before our food was served - COLD!! So obviously, the chef(s) were able to cook everything quickly enough, but then it was left to go cold. We will not risk THAT again.

Great service and delicious food. Will definitely be returning! We wanted a cosy local pub to have a good catch up in a relaxed unrushed atmosphere and this was just perfect. Our food was hot and presented beautifully and nothing was too much trouble for the staff on duty. We stayed for much longer than expected and have already recommended to friends and family. I have been going to the Chequers for 20 years,and I was appalled by the standard of food,it was inbarassing to say the least no steaks,ribeye sirloin no eggs,peas,mix grill was terrible dry . The waitresses where so apologizing and seemed very emotional about the standards. When you had amazing seafood and great specials board it was a place to go to,now it's become quite bland ,what a SHAME Steak picture of Medium rare second attempt Rump so tough.

The food at the Chequers is always good and well presented. Our waitresses were Daisy & Lucy who were helpful and very friendly. The food was delicious, we ordered the fish grill & the game grill.

Enjoyed our meals and the service was excellent, love eating here, one of my favourite places. Local to me and always receive a lovely warm welcome 🤗

My sister and I visited her here whilst waiting for her car to be MOT'd just down the road. We cant praise them enough. Excellent greeting, showed to our table and drinks order taken straight away, and delivered to the table in the next breath. Food order taken shortly after and starter was on the table within 10 mins. Starter was well cooked and very hot and well presented. The only criticism we have is that if something is a sharer, why have odd number of items I.e pieces of bread, pieces of chicken etc. Our mains came out very shortly afterwards again, very well presented and very hot and clearly freshly cooked. Overall a very good experience from entrance to leaving. Thank you.

If you want great pub food at a reasonable price and with good service, then look no further. I had a very tasty scampi and chips followed by a superb toffee cheesecake. I was "persuaded" to go for this cheesecake by the waitress and she was not wrong. It was indulgent but one of the best cheesecakes I've tasted. I would recommend the Chequers every time.

We’ve been meeting up with friends at The Chequers Redbourn for lunch over many years and from being a vibrant and busy restaurant, since lockdown it has become less frequented which is a shame. Longer waiting times for food has become the norm which probably reflects the difficulty of employing staff in general. Sadly our last visit today only had one member of staff (Joe) who not only greeted us, showed us to our table, took our order and for all we know might have cooked our meals. Whilst the standard of food was slightly average, the experience was improved by the excellent Joe who could not of done any more in providing a professional and enjoyable service. About an hour in to our visit a second waiter was seen and the manager made an appearance in serving our deserts and providing the final bill. The 3 staff including the manager all seemed polite and courteous and probably deserve to be working at a higher quality of restaurant where their personal efforts would be appreciated

I totally agree with Ben M on what he said in his review. Like Ben we have visited many times but unfortunately we won't be going back.

We have eaten here plenty of times in the past but haven't been for about a year. Food used to be pretty good and was always consistent, even if not the best. This visit was a different story. Everything was so dire. I've included a photo of the garlic and cheese ciabatta which was just a bit of bread with a slab of cheep cheddar barely melted on it and tasted nothing like garlic. Look how pathetic it is. They're charging £3.50 for that and the rest of the food was about as sad looking. Honestly I can't reccomend anyone eat here. Staff were so slow, they were basically going in reverse. It was all really bad. Very disappointed as we had talked it up to our family from past visits.
