Portion not really as I ordered, even just little bit of meat inside the large donner. I'm not recommended for sure

Popped in while in the area and was greeted by a very bubbly lady who was extremely polite/friendly I went for the standard cod n chips it was a lovely chunky fillet of fish cooked to perfection with a very generous amount of chips the curry sauce was delicious. I couldn’t finish it all but certainly gave it a good go the shop was very busy for a lunch time will definitely pop in again if in the area

Ordered food online for collection in 20mins which is stated on their website. Get there about 4 minutes before it’s due. Only to be told it would be another 20 minutes before it was ready. What’s the point in having online ordering and a time scale if they cannot stick to it. Shame as cannot fault the food but the service has gone rapidly down hill in the last few weeks. Everyone local that you talk to is saying the same.

Our first time visiting Staplehurst. Fish and chips were great! Fish tasted fresh and was served quickly. Shame about the young, miserable girls serving. A smile goes a long way!

The quality of the food has really gone down hill. It’s such a shame, as it was always lovely. Now it’s a gamble whether you get a good meal. Numerous times lately the chips have been double fried - obviously from what was left over at lunchtime. Potatoes are hardly expensive, so why would you do that? Just throw them away! When they’re fresh, they are really nice, but you never know. For the first time in a while we bought some fish cakes, they were inedible. Horrible, thin things - really bad quality even my cat would turn his nose up. Their fish cakes used to be lovely and thick with a really great taste. Come on Chequers, stop putting your prices up and quality of your food down! We’ll be going to ashford from now on. Would rather go a bit further for decent food!!

Ordered a collection as a treat for the family, if I lived closer I would of taken it back , cod was over cooked my daughters fishcake was squashed and burnt I ordered large chips and got a medium, . Definitely won't be returning £38 waisted

Have seen recent reviews regards failing standards , however I have eaten fish and chips all over the country and can say that this is among the best i have had. I call in regularly and have never been disappointed. The fish is delivered fresh every day and superbly cooked. I agree the toilet is a bit iffy so I don't use it! Also nice village to walk round and lovely fresh bakers across the road. Only eat fish and chips here so can't comment on burgers etc.

Very friendly staff and the restaurant is bright and clean. We only stopped for a cuppa but the food looked good.

Super clean and well designed. Reassuringly good. Food was great. Mum didn't like the chips because she says they were soggy, but everybody else thought they were exactly as they should be.

Had takeaway Haddock & chips for 5 of us! Plenty of it & nice.

I really enjoyed the food here previously when I moved to the area but like some of the other reviews are saying too, the quality seems to be going downhill fast. The portion sizes are shrinking while the prices are going up fast and the food seems to be getting worse quality-wise too. Tonight, I was waiting to be served and the server kept letting other customers jump in front to order and clearly wasn’t paying attention to who was queuing. The server also wasn’t courteous enough to ask who’s next instead of just guessing and picking random customer who pushed close to the till. After paying £4.50 for dry, stale chips that were much smaller than we’ve had before, I think I’ll just avoid going back now. The last 3 times I’ve visited have been like this, which is a shame as it was always a good, affordable and reliable place previously. The constant screaming from staff shouting orders to the cooks too just makes being in the building stressful, you leave with a headache. I wish the staff were a little more polite and courteous and that they’d not decrease portion sizes whilst increasing prices. Do one or the other, not both! It just makes your customers feel like they’re being ripped off!

£3.40 for chips asked for open gave me them closed. asked for lots of vinegar, can't taste the vinegar but way too much salt, totally ruined! It would be easier to let the customer do it themselves. Would of taken them back but already driven off. The middle aged woman that served me must have a ton of salt in her food and not know what a vinegar bottle looks like.

Never had a problem always lovely food, best to call ahead and order to as normally very busy! Been coming here for a long time now I’m Coeliac and have the gluten free fish and chips always very very pleased It’s very refreshing to have a local chippy that caters for you. Every Friday and Saturday they cater for gluten free

Started using them in 2019 when we moved to Lenham and they were delicious. Everytime I've gone in the last year it's just got worse and worse in my personal opinion. I know things are costing more but when you pay £10 for a meal you expect it to actually fill you up. The sizes have shrunk considerably. At one point I had to go back as was given less than a handful of chips when I'd purchased a medium. A large Donna kebab with less meat than the last small I bought. I keep giving them a chance but I think I will just leave it now. Just a shame there are no other options locally.

Went for battered sausage and chips. Sausage was ok, but chips were rank, they absolutely stank and tasted of fish, ( I am not a fish lover).

Possibly the best (constantly) fish and chip and chicken kebab we've had. Eat from them lots. The staff is always friendly and food is served quickly

Just had two haddock and chips, have eaten here over many years. I have to say the last two times the standards have gone right down. The fish was dry and batter oily and the chips not very nice at all. Sorry this is the second time so will not be coming back such a shame but as always, nothing stays the same

The facilities were quite appalling. There was no soap in the toilet to wash your hands after. The loo roll was outside, and you had to roll it in your hand to get the toilet tissue, and the inside of the roll was actually covered in blood!!! It was absolutely disgusting. They really need to give a little more to the cleanliness...!! Won't be going back there for sure.

Went in to grab a bag of chips and a curry sauce for my dinner when passing through staplehurst on my way home, found the customer service rude, incredibly young workers who didn’t know how to smile or say please or thank you. Food was fine but not fantastic. Can’t believe how the manager speaks to his workers, they look no more than 15/16

We have cod and chips the cod was very nice and the chips was great and best was the sizes of the chips very good we also eat in as it was raining hard

Had a lovely Kebab and cooked breakfast here today. Great food and a great atmosphere, friendly service by a young lady who served us. Definitely reccomend.

Popped in for a big breakfast, was not disappointed. High price point, £15 with a cup of tea. The burger was a bit odd but was nice, sausages looked cheap but were tasty.

In the past been very satisfied. However, last night was disappointing. My wife's cod and chips were fine . I ordered chips only for myself and they were extremely poor. Felt like they were from lunch time. I am afraid I did not finish them.

Takeaway fish and chips were very good. We ordered over the phone and they wait till we turned up to put it all together. Fresh chips and the fish was ready. Excellent service from all the staff.

We only had take away but it was really good. We had a fairly big order so used the website to place the order then went to collect it. Had to wait a little while for everything but it was well worth it, everyone was very happy with their meal.

Best fish and chips by far, great friendly staff...

Went here on a Friday night for a family dinner. Not too busy and had a good atmosphere. The fish and chips was clearly the most popular item on the menu so will have to try that next time. The scallops I had to start were delectable and the stone bass did not disappoint

We were a bit late eating but the staff were very helpful and we managed to eat in and had an excellent meal or fish and chips and mushy peas.

Always fresh, hot and tasty. Other chip shops closer to us but we'll happily drive to Lenham to eat. Often busy but you're never kept waiting for long. Good selection of food available if you're not a fish fan.

Owner must buy cheapest or reject potatoes. Half of every portion of chips go in the bin cos they have blight or black lumps. Worst chips in Kent!

Slow, but cooked fresh and fish batter thin and crunchy. Tables to eat at, both inside and out. Worth the wait.

I placed a order at 17:45 and call at 18:45 to be told it was on the way, it still wasn't here by 19:30 and I was told it was because of traffic when I only live 3 miles away.

Went in today 12noon very busy placed my order when it was cooked they didn't ask if I wanted salt and vinegar but they asked everyone else I understand they are busy but it's not good service and a smile would be nice not one of them smiled if your talking my money please smile and be nice

I was told this chipshop was one of the best in Kent, I think "Was" is right, I have had good food from there, but today for some reason, unfortunately it was very poor, the chips were splinters, the cod was dry, the tomato sauce in a tub was very bitter. It wasn't the usual happy bearded chap who travels from the Maidstone area. So for £9.60, not, as cheap as chips anymore, when I could have had a McD, meal, for far less, I won't be going back......

Over an hour and half to deliver 5 mins down the road. I could of gone to Folkestone got fresh off the boat and got home with it still hot. Disgusting taking more orders than you can supply in a reasonable amount of time is pure greed! Will never use again. Fish is fish.

Run out of scampi so settled for a chicken and mushroom pie. Unfortunately it must of been from the day before as it was rock hard around the edges, one bite then it was tossed in the bin.

Long wait and expensive 3 jumbo sausage and chips £15

Going back a few years I used to avoid this place, having had a poor experience. But tried fish and chips a couple of months ago, haven’t looked back. Great portions, very tasty, that’s Thursday night sorted now!

Called in for fish and chips for lunch while we were driving past; and very good fish and chips they were especially as the fish was cooked fresh, to order. While waiting for the meal I noticed a sign which said that cooked to order on a Friday night is gluten free fish and chips. As my wife is gluten free, we will probably try this at some future date. The establishment was Covid safe as well as masks have to be worn and only three customers are allowed in at a time.

The sun was shining so a bike ride to Lenham was on cards......started my usual journey along the Pilgrims Way from Detling, but cut down through Hollingbourne this time and continued along A20 arriving at the Chequers takeaway at approx 11.40, rock was off the menu so settled for plaice and chips - and as usual they didn't disappoint. After a short time my order was called from the current serving window. The portion was plentiful, hot and delicious and eating fish and chips in the square is an interesting experience in this quaint little hamlet, looking at the church with a satellite dish on it turret made me smile ! 😁
