Chen's Kitchen in Dumfries & Galloway

I am not usually a huge fan of take-aways but this really was very tasty and didn't give off too much of the usual extra-artificial colourings and flavourings. The veg was nicely chopped and cooked, the meats (sweet chilli chicken, duck chow mein) tasted nice and seasoning was just right too.

My husband and son picked up a takeaway from Chens Kitchen, we were about a 15 minute drive away, sorry but it was awful, the chicken fried rice was tasteless, the curry sauce was a congealed blob ((even reheating it in the microwave was useless) the chilli chips went in the bucket because they were as hard as bricks and obviously not fresh, must have picked the wrong night to have a carry out!?

Staying in near by galloway cottages and went for takeaway.staff were lovely and the food was beautiful.had prawn toast,starter for 2 and chicken chow mean,chicken curry and fried rice and salt and pepper chips.kids loved there food and it was so tasty..Will definitely be back

Fantastic food choice and great value for money! Menu choice is vast and the food is as fresh as there is.

My partner and i visited this takeaway tonight and chose several dishes, only then to be told it's a cash only business! We were, however, offered an alternative way to pay. By bank transfer, would you believe? I wonder who's account that was going into? As if we would go to the trouble of setting up a new payee on our bank account, to then make a bank transfer for a takeaway! I know exactly what's going on here!

we have had 6 different meals over 3 nights and will be back there on Thursday , just wish the Chinese takeaways back home in Garforth west Yorkshire were as good .. Large portions , piping hot and delicious ...

Mrs Chens is a staple takeaway in Dumfries and Galloway. Every visit is warm and friendly and the food is delicious. Garlic chicken is my very favourite dish and I can honestly say that in the five years I've been going to Chens, I haven't had a bad meal yet.

Family of 5 all had different dishes and all really enjoyed. Highly recommend. Please note only takes cash payments though so had a quick run to ATM..

We were visiting Scotland and found this little gem of a takeaway. Food was excellent & even tasted better than our local back home. Starters, mains & desserts were delicious. Highly recommended!

Really pleased we chose here for food. All the food was good but the Sesame chicken was fantastic, really great. The kids menu helpful too for little kids who won’t manage a full size portion and the staff were lovely

One of the best takeaway Chinese meals ever. Gorgeous prawn toast, Mongolian chicken and beef chow mein with black bean sauce. Very friendly service.

Ordered a couple of meals and collected them. I had Char Sui fried rice and my other half had chicken curry and boiled rice. Now I’m very particular about Chinese food and don’t often risk it when I’m away from home, you get wed to your local. However this more than past muster. The portions were a little smaller than I’m used to and the cost was £3/£4 more but that’s how it it is sometimes. Would call again if I’m the area.

Probably the best Chinese takeaway I've had. Seaweed starter was crisp and tasty. Sweet and sour pork was large chunks of really good pork (not fatty and full of gristle) in a lovely batter. Chicken egg Foo-Yung could not be faulted, nor could the vegetable fried rice. Superb value too.

Reason for 3 stars is the length of time they took. We went in and placed our order, it took over an hour. Reason being they kept on taking telephone orders and ended up with far to many to deal with. Normally when you go to a Chinese the longest you wait is 20 mins. They should have concentrated on getting the people whom were waiting outside down. Once we did get our food it was good

Spent a couple of nights staying nearby and ate from here both nights. Good veggie dishes. Really tasty. Quick service too. Highly recommended.

Chens Kitchen is a takeaway in the Kirkcudbright serving a multitude of dishes as you would expect from a Chinese takeaway which are well priced. We both had Chow-mien dishes which were fresh and very tasty served by very friendly and helpful staff. Definitaly worth a go if in the area.

Took a chance not knowing whether previous reviews related to current owners, excellent singapore Vermicelli, chicken Foo Yung, chicken and cashews, curry,fried rice and free prawn crackers, just about £20. Huge portions of noodles and rice. Excellent quality, quick service, 10 mins form entering sshop to leaving with food. Had a return visit the following day, just as good so no fluke.

We were a bit apprehensive to go here when we saw that there hadn’t been any reviews in over a year but we trusted our judgement and went along. Although the shop itself isn’t very aesthetically pleasing, the food was absolutely gorgeous. There was very generous portions and myself and my boyfriend were very happy with the meals we received. We thought that paying an extra £2.20 for any rice with your meal was a bit steep but I must admit it was worth every penny. If we are ever down this way again we would definitely go back. Bought 2x vegetable vermicelli noodles and specifically asked for no eggs in either because my girlfriend has a mild allergy. Took 30mins to make. Got 6 miles back to accommodation to discover both noodles were full of egg. Called and was shouted at, told we didn’t ask for no egg and refused a refund. Terrible customer service and oversights like this are LIFE THREATENING to anyone with serious allergies eg. nut, sesame... AVOID!

Staying in Kirkcudbright on holiday and visited here as we’d had a takeaway from here on a previous visit. I had a chicken curry, the portion size was huge and the chicken nice and big chunks, would have been enough for 2.My husband had a haggis supper as they do a chip shop option as well, again large portion size. Be aware that the prices do not include rice or noodles so a wee bit pricey.Would return and recommend.

Chens was recommended to us by a local lady in Gatehouse in Fleet where we were staying, her recommendation was well founded and the food was lovely and plentiful.

Had a take away here as it was suggested by a friend and it was bland and not the best. The order I placed wasnt what I got and the man taking orders was unpleasant to say the least.

Got served straightaway ,salt and pepper beef was hard ,rice was cold and asked for crispy noodles which we paid for not recieved chips hard,.all food not very hot,and we only had few mins walk away to caravan site,wont6 go again will try the other Chinese in the town next time.

We ventured into Kirkcudbright for dinner when summer ended on the 28th July and cooking and camping became impossible.

Delicious food, very nice and helpful staff, eager to help and quick service. Highly recommend! They prepare everything fresh and are conveniently located in Kirkcudbright. I always look forward to my weekly take-away treat from Chen’s.

We have just had the best ever Chinese Takeaway. My wife is a vegetarian and I am not. The salt and pepper chips are amazing. To the people of Kirkudbright you are very lucky. 10 out 10 There is nothing else to add

Great fast food carryout restaurant. Great variety in menu. Staff go out of their way to be helpful. Like the free prawn crackers.

Its a friendly and fast working cooked to order takeaway with a nice sofa to use while waiting. Normal cost is over £10 for a two course meal but the competition beats a tenner for large Thai dishes, now on offer at the local golf club. They do give a large portion of prawn crackers though...

The BBQ spare ribs, special curry and fried rice were all at the top end of what I've had from Chinese takeaways. The staff were super nice and I loved watching the food getting made. Top marks!

We travel 14 miles from our camping site to Chen's Kitchen in Kirkcudbright for a Chinese take-a-way. They serve most fantastic food and believe me, it is still hot when we get back to our tent. Every year I pack to go home, there is still their menu in my tent for the following year.

Try the chilli squid - best this side of Kowloon Harbour! Enjoyed watching Mr Chen cooking it all fresh before my eyes too!

Great menu that caters for all, we had the Chinese. Our meal was lovely, great tasting and good portion sizes. The kitchen was clean and you could see your food being cooked while you wait. The service was friendly! What more can you ask......

Had a fantastic take away meal called up to order and drive from caravan park to collect, order was ready when we arrived and served by fantastic staff member, was a great meal with no leftovers

Visited this takeaway whilst on a short break in Gatehouse of Fleet.

Great take out, real family affair table where the owners children sit and do school work. Merits and awards all over the walls. All open and friendly people. Food was awesome mixed meat curry, egg fried rice and chips twice. Only need to order one chips due to the fact you get a huge amount. Real chicken used and not that cubed processed crap you get at most places !! Only one small criticism they need to ask the local Window cleaner to do the windows. I've seen him doing lots of the other shops !!.

This was the nearest takeaway to our holiday cottage so we decided to give it a try. Excellent sesame prawn toast. Average spring rolls. Tasty lemon chicken and chicken with szechuan sauce & lovely crunchy veg. Good value & tasty.

Was here last night and tonight. Last night i had mongolian beef which was up there with the best ive had from any takeaway/restaurant. Tonight i had salt n pepper crispy beef,again,brilliant.

Best Chinese takeaway I've had in quite some time! Asked for adjustments to noodles for my kids and they were only too happy to help. Will definitely go back!
