Ordered on line at 6.30pm, called to find out when we would get delivery after 1 hour 15 mins, told it would be another 15-20 mins. Eventually turned up after 2 hours! Food was nice but delivery was awful

This is a decent Chinese takeout. Food is cooked well, not greasy and tasty. One of the best Chinese takeouts in Grays. Would recommend. Only issue, its cash only.

It's a takeaway so there isn't an atmosphere but the food is banging and great selection.

This was my first time eating from The Chens Garden, and it won't be my last. I ordered through the phone and the person was friendly. I booked a food delivery. Delivery took 1 hour and 15 minutes (Friday night). The only downside to a delivery is that you can not track the driver, so I didn't know when it was going to arrive. All food was delivered hot. The chow mein noodles were full to the brim of the tub, the sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style could have had a bit more in the tub but still a good amount. The chicken balls were a good size and had a nice crisp to them. The food tasted great! I will definitely be ordering from here again.

Great food just wish the website would allow delivery to be more easily accessible as after two attempts it automatically chooses collection..

The food didn’t arrive for 90 minutes so I called up to find out where it was and they tried to tell me that it had been delivered. They were dismissive and rude and when they finally admitted they had accidentally delivered to the wrong address they didn’t even apologise and acted as if sending out a new order was doing me a favour. From start to finish made it seem like I was lying. Will never order from them again.

Went yesterday evening for a takeaway....Not impressed at the way the order was messed up unnecessarily. We ordered a chopsuey dish(been sprouts), it was not on the menu but the girl at the till assured us they could do it. They did NOT, when we got home we saw just a beef dish no bean sprouts..... very disappointing as we wanted beansprouts. Also they did not tell us a sauce was included on one dish and ended up buying two unnecessarily. The girl seemed nice and chatty but did not know what she was ordering on the till.

Ordered food told 40 minute delivery did not arrive called up was told leaving now will be 15 minutes half hour later no delivery called back got a rude response when did arrive 2 hours after ordering food was cold and awful would stear well clear from this food stablishment

Regularly buy from here but will not be buying again - my collection order was sent to a delivery address which wasn’t my house so I had to go out of my way to pick it up. Called back up to complain my food was cold and got told I’m ‘taking the piss’ and there was nothing they can do. Awful customer service and they have lost a whole family of customers

I think I've found a new Chinese takeaway. Called the restaurant to ask for no onions ahead of making an order on Just Eat. Order came within half hour to Chafford Hundred on a Sunday evening which was a nice change. The rice noodles, crispy beef, chow mein and chicken balls were all freshly prepared and hot. Polite driver and staff taking the instructions over the phone.

Really disappointed. Ordered through the website because nobody was picking up the phone. I received a confirmation email saying my order was being processed and nothing else. No delivery ETA at all. I wait for another 40 minutes and finally get through after leaving a voicemail and 3 more missed calls. When I get through I spoke to a lady reception who informed me the food is being cooked. After 40 minutes of waiting, my food was still being cooked which was clear to me that the order hadn't actually been communicated to the kitchen until I called them. Through my frustration I request for the order to be cancelled and the receptionist failed to show any sense of care or service in trying to rectify the situation. In fact she hung up on me while I made my cancellation request. Very very disappointed. The food here is great but the service is a shambles and its really ruined my evening. Please fix up. Happy to discuss any response from this business.

This place used to be ok but has gone massively downhill of late ... they don't pick up the phone most of the time, the prices have gone up, and worst of all the food quality is abysmal - I had "crispy squid" that was so hard and rubbery that I reckon it was yesterday's, reheated in a microwave as it certainly wasn't fried (as it should have been). Appalling greasy food, awful sauces, never again. Avoid.

With so many other takeaway's in the area to choose from, it had a been a very long time since i used this one (it was called Senior, back then!) and im afraid to say, i was very disappointed. I ordered the Special curry, and was given an ONION curry . . . With an accompanyment of a few pieces of meat, and a couple of prawns! Topped with the fact that i asked for it extra spicy/hot, you could have fed a newborn with what was given to me, as it was as bland/tasteless as anything. It really was a substandard meal. Oh, and they only accepted cash . . .

AVOID- Ordered for the first time ever from here online. After an hour I tried to call, to see how much longer the food would be, but the number does not work and sends you to a mailbox which states that it is currently full. I tried sending an email via the website but no response. The food arrived after 1hr50 and when it did it was cold so we left it with the driver and sent it back. The driver called up to let the restaurant know and there was no apology or explanation. Disgusting customer service. Do not USE!

Wanted to try a new place for a change. Read some reviews and thought we would give this place a go. Rang to confirm they could add a specific condiment to the order. Was told yes and to place in notes. Made a substantial order which arrived quicker than expected. Unfortunately despite the call, condiment wasn't added disappointingly. A simple call to us to verify our order if required would have sufficed. Our search for a new goto Chinese takeaway continues.

On my last two orders they have missed items off, when you call & complain they put the phone down, avoid in the weekend as they can’t cope and are rude.

Tried this chinese for the first time after a recomendation from a friend due to the wide variety of veggie options. The lady on the phone was really polite and helpful when I called regarding our order. The food itself was delicious and full of flavour. We will be ordering again. Registered for online access, put in my order, paid via PayPal, received confirmation of my order, and food delivered 35 minutes later. First time we've used Chens and I can confirm that the food quality was excellent. Sweet and sour is more meat that batter, (vast difference from our usual takeaway source), so Chens will be our supplier of choice going forward. Great service - thanks!

For my birthday i wanted to try some different and i decided to get some chinese food as i am rarely had before..i took 5 different dishes and everything was extraordinary..my favourite was deep fried king prawn in spicy salt..service was impeccable and fast..

The worse takeaway we've ever had!!! Tasteless and the slimiest chicken.....i actually thought we had Squid it was that slimy!! Chips were nice though and food was hot haha but thats it, thats the 1 star rating. Only went there as our usual chinese was busy, thought we'd try Chens....Mistake!! Also took over 1 & 1/2 hrs to.deliver

Prices hiked on Uber eats by 20% (not including service or delivery fee)so better off ordering direct from them as it’s much cheaper on their website menu.Food was ok but have had better portions from other local shops in the area. Sorry, way too expensive for me, I was expecting something out of this world for the price I paid......see Uber eats menu to the website menu if you don’t believe me

Avoid avoid avoid!!! Order took 1hr 15 mins. Went to collect in the end, paid for delivery charge which didn’t get back. The woman on the phone told me “yeah it’s always like this” no apology. Terrible. Go to golden express instead!

Ordered at around 5pm for delivery at 6.45. Called at 7 to be told “extremely busy” will try to deliver in around 30 minutes. When told no not good enough told it would be delivered in 10-15 minutes. That was 15 minutes ago. Being busy is exactly the reason people order in advance .... if you can’t provide a service don’t offer it !!!

This used to be one of the nicest Chinese takeaways in Grays. Now it’s changed it’s name and upped its prices. You now pay separately for the rice when you order a curry which ups a curry to 8 quid!! The pancakes rolls were swimming in grease and the prawn toast tasted burnt. The curry itself had way too many onions and what I think was frozen chicken strips in. Definitely wasn’t freshly cooked chicken. Won’t be going there again that’s for sure.

Don't normally post negative comments 1st time I went ordered a special curry, arrived home to find a chicken curry. 2nd visit mentioned mistake from previous visit was just shrugged off even though there's a price difference. So gave benefit of doubt and ordered again special platter and special curry fried rice paid £16 not so special platter consisted of 2 ribs cut into 4. 2 burnt pieces of breadcrumb which supposedly contained prawn hence the £8 for the starter and 2 slimy spring rolls with a large amount of seaweed to fill the metal food container. The special curry was vile the chicken was sour and inedible All in all expensive rubbish very disappointed and definitely won't use again
