I had take-away tandoori chicken It was very good and reasonably priced. The green coriander sauce & instant chilli sauce were great. I would be happy to eat this every time I crave a tandoori meal.

We like to explore East Ham's array of wonderful South Indian cuisine and popped in here. Not particularly impressed with the cleanliness of the place, inattentive service by the staff and quality of food. Some of the items on the buffet were cold and were not replenished.

I'm gonna be brief with this, food was bad and lacked flavour. Here is what we exactly ordered Chinese indo dosa, idly 4 piece, Thayir vadai, Mango milkshake Paneer masala dosa, methu vadai, Strawberry milkshake Firstly the starters aka the vadai's... This we're lacking flavour and crispness and definitely not made fresh as it was squishy as it was most likely taken out of the microwave, even the one with the yogurt was boring and tasteless. The idly was OK, but was let down by the sambar and chutney.... Which tasted watered down and thus bland and boring.... This was the case every time it came accompanied with any side dish and main. Next the dosa's..... The Paneer masala one was mediocre and tasted like the Paneer was mixed with onions and Peppers mixed with uncle Ben's sweet and sour sauce.... It was that generic tasting, the potato filling was also lackluster.... Which is hard to believe as the recipe to make it is so simple. The indo Chinese dosa, actually had some flavour and was the tastiest thing there.... Not great by any stretch.... It was greasy though.... Which is a bit of a downer.... But it gets highlighted because everything else was so crap. Here's the fun part..... The milkshake to was bland it was about 250ml and it tasted and looked like they put 10 ml of strawberry ice cream.... I only received the strawberry milkshake after.... Because the waiter forgot our order because it was never taken down.... He tried memorise it in his head.... I mean how crap must you be to not write down our order... I mean you lose money on simple stuff like that. All in all will never go again, try another place. We pretty much finished the food, because wastage to me is a crime.

Apparently there are two restaurants of this name on High Street North; this one is the one closer to the underground station. I went there solo for dinner. The tandoori chicken took a bit of time to prepare, but it was very good. I also went there for dinner, and tried their idli, wada, omelet and chai. Everything was more than satisfactory. They also have buffet breakfast, but I didn't try that. The service is also very good. The prices are quite reasonable. I would definitely recommend it for both veg and non-veg cuisine!

Good food but no management to sort their problems. Big hygiene issue, found hair in food. The restaurant does not have basic knowledge of service and ettiquette. What used to be a very good South Indian restaurant but not any more. Been going there for many years for some of my favourite South Indian favourites. Will now look for a better place. Unfortunately Eastham has a lot of South Indian restaurants but all have good authentic food but with terrible hygiene and customer service.

Was there for late dinner, no staffs mind us, V got confused whether the restaurant is open or not, other staffs where roaming around but no response. Then V manage to stop one and got a table, V ordered few vadas as starter. But tuk 20 minutes. Also ordered pander dosa and butter naan with mushroom chettinad.. horrible.. Instead of pander dosa they give normal marsala dosa, and V show that to him and told when u bill it make it correct.. but he again messed it. For butter naan V got normal paratta. May b frozen one. Also kotthu paratta.. I think someone in the kitchen is experimenting things... Mushroom curry. Mushrooms not cooked, gravy V can feel the raw taste of masalas... I explained it to them but that guy looks like in half sleep.. he is not bothered also saw customers in other tables also arguing...No spoons, no plates, glasses for water not clean, table too.. at least the expression of staff should b responseive, if they can't provide good service should close it bit early, y disappointing the customers. First time seeing after payment he is just throwing the receipt.. can't he give in hand or place it table.?.. will not recommend to anyone, now understood why people r on big Qs in other restaurant and here the tables are empty... Kotthu paratta made me sick for 2 days..That makes me to put the review. Thanks

I live in Watford and travel to central London for conferences etc. I make a point to make the 45-minute travel to Eastham for some authentic Indian food and visit the temple etc.I was thoroughly disappointed with Chennai dosa in Eastham.Ordered chilli chicken which arrived a bit too quickly, like 5-minutes. It was horrible! No chilli, red coloured chicken and no flavours! This was promptly sent back for sorting out. Arrived back with similar configuration and I did not eat it at all.Rather than asking me how was my food, the staff were more than happy to collect the money for this disgusting food!As the quality of served dish was so poor, I have given it a 1-rating as there is no point of a cheap dish if you will not be able to eat it.I had a similar experience with Chennai dosa in Slough, so this is hardly a one-off.I will never visit Chennai dosa again!!!Dr Sumit Jha.

Took parents in law here and they loved it.. Food is quite authentic Indian.. You get the metal trays like in India and fill up your plate. You can order a la cart or the buffet. Vegetarian buffet is £4.99 and meat buffet is £5.99... Basically with the meat buffet you have two extra choices on top of the vegetarian dishes - chicken curry or mutton curry. I found everything too hot for my palette but its fine if you're used to Indian food. The restaurant really caters for local Indians and most of the clientele are Indian origin. So if you want something authentic, not only food but atmosphere.. Chennai Dosa is a place you want to visit!

I have been here quite a few times in the past and have always enjoyed it but today was quite different. Went in around 12 noon and was attended by this lady who showed no interest in what she was doing. Forget a smile, she had this smirk on her face as if she was doing us a favor or as if I was asking for free food. After she tried to persuade us a couple of times to go for the buffet which I was not interested in, she reluctantly took our order. I ordered for a few dosas (veg and non veg) thinking that it would be the fastest to come out - afterall the place is called Chennai "dosa". She came back and told us these items are only for lunch to which I asked quite confused, it it is not lunch now (12pm) then when is? With her smirk still on she said if we could wait 15 mins we can have what we ordered. I agreed. For the next 25 mins we just sat there with nothing - I didn't even get the coke we ordered. She didn't even bother to come around to give an update and by then my family and I were really frustrated and quite hungry. I went up to the counter to check with her and she just said it would be at least another 15 mins for our food. I didn't bother wasting my time anymore and we just left. Attention to the management team - If it takes 45 mins for you to make a Dosa I think it is high time you reconsider your chain name. Special attention to the training team (if there is one) - it would be worthwhile to spend some time with your staff to teach them what courtesy is.

We visited this Chennai Dosa branch for breakfast buffet a couple of weekends ago. This we think is the worst branch ever. All dishes in the buffet were empty and we had ask the waiters and managers several times to fill them. There was one dish in the buffet and we couldnt even identify it! See attached picture....We asked the manager what that dish was....and we got shocked when he said that these rectangular dark brown dry cold pieces (looking like burnt toast) were actually POORI's!!! The place is messy and needs lot of cleaning up. We had lunch buffet and half the stuff was cold despite it being peak lunch hour. This place is a home away from home, I went with a bunch of friends on Sunday morning for buffet it was awesome, we need to wait a bit long understood it was busy and every one wants dosas just like that which I think will not be possible to cater such mass crowed at 1 serving. We been very calm and enjoyed the food, if you want to enjoy you need to be cool.I saw few people siting next to us was cribbing about service, for people like them it's a cheep place what if they start serving better and they increase the price you all are not going to turn and say good still.Any how best of luck to the restaurant.

We love this place. Yes it is quite basic decor and seating, not in the most salubrious location and parking is not always easy to find on a weekend evening. BUT we put with all this becuause they still do the best Dosa in London. We try to visit at least once a month if not more often. As well as perfect Masala Dosa and Idli, the Poori with potatoes is also mouth watering (if a little on the greasy side). I tried the thalli once and every single item I tried tasted acceptable if not mouth watering - I kept going back for topups and asking for more pooris! For starters I would definitely recommend the Dahi Vada - two daal doughnuts, soaked in savoury yoghurt. Seriously simple but incredibly tasty. My wife loves Dahi Vada - on our last trip to Dubai we sampled Dahi Vada in umpteen indian restuarants and cafes around Bur Dubai and Diera and the one at Chennai Dosa in London is as good as any we tried in Dubai. The best thing is that you can have starters, mains and a Mango lassi for a family of four and get away with paying less than £20 for the best taste experience.TIP: Dont be shy and eat with your fingers for the best experience.

we went here on 01/02/14 for a family meal (8 of us) and were horrified with the level of poor service, food and being overcharged on the bill which they had conveniently forgotten to tell us until the end.We had to wait over an hour for our food by which time our starters and side courses had gone cold even though we had specified that we wanted it all to be bought out at the same time! Many times we had to go the counter ourselves to grab our food/drinks as they kept forgetting. We will not ever go back to this place even if they gave us the food for free!We have since had to put it a complaint as we were overcharged for our food and the managers excuse was that they were waiting for their new menus with the new prices that should arrive 'next' week! We did try and dispute it but it was like talking to a brick wall so we had to take pictures of the menu and the bill and have complained to trading standards.Even though we had reserved a table by phone, we still had to wait so that was a waste of time. The restaurant was cold and horrible with damp on the ceiling/wall and the air conditioning had mould on it. Chennai Dosa 177 *** Just a Short Review of this outlet based in East Ham- 177 High Street North, Road E6 1JB It was visited on 30/12/2013 . By my self and accominied by my wife and mother as a evening meal out after a long and eventful day. As we heard about this Dosa outlet had non-veg facilities we throw caution to the wind. We arrived around 8.30 pm Enterer through the doors and was insantly HIT yes HIT by how cold the premises were INSIDE ! I had a T-shirt on with a winter jacket over the top My wife was wearing Two layers of clothing underneath her winter Coat ! same goes for my mother. We sat down and and after a few minutes usually the trend is to relax and remove winter coats or a layer of warm clothing as my wife and mother already had 2 layers on They at first seemed comfortable so I thought about taking my jacket off too.. Not in this instance I could not eat at a resteraunt with a big winter coat on... luckily I had a " hoodie " as i keep as a spare! I had to jump ship leave them two and grab my hoodie came back in sat back down and ordered our food.. 2 x Chilli chicken starters to Share, and 2 x Chilli Paneer Dosa and 1 x Chicken Masala Dosa 3 x Miranda cold drinks Totaling atleast £20.76.. This is our typical Dosa experience favorites combination of sorts. However on this occasion we chatted amongst ourselves and commented it felt like a golden arches fast get yur food and get out of here type of place and laughed and joked about it! We formentioned to the Staff in a passing comment " its kind of cold in here " After waiting for about 10 minutes the evening looks promising with the " starters " being the 2 dishes Chilli Chicken plates, shared between 3. Which arrived out on metal plates on top of metal taals * unkin to trays * on top of looks like Granite finish hard work top tables I re-checked with the staff prior to this that the main Dosa were to be held back ..Starting to feel the down hill turning point, The 2 x Chilli Paneer Dosas arrived 5/7 minutes into the starter.. and then the 1 x Chilli chicken masala Dosa, followed about 2/3 minutes after.. Now usually we would be happy with that sort of timing as any one would be. By the time we had completed out Starters, We delved into the Dosa`s how ever noticed the lack of HOT food, Sambar was luke warm, and the combination of Fillings were also LUKE warm!! By that time we had started to actually feel hungry so the craving was to eat ! Almost half way through our meals we all had become hesitant to carry on as the ability to enjoy a meal out was now on a down wood spiral ! My mother complained to one of the waiters that the food was cold and getting colder. His resulution was to bring out a serving of Heated up Sambar. With this we had to coat the COLD Dosa to make it edible in the Cold environment! at this point we refused to drink our order of Cold Miranda ( orange ) drinks, one of them being a Fanta ( orange ) and asked the waiter to take them back, after a few more minutes we all had to pause and struggled to carry on eating. My mother and wife at this point almost shivering whilst eating, This also started to affect my ability to eat properly as the cold started to get to me also. We all stopped before completing our meals and asked for the Bill, we all just wanted to get out of the place, as it seemed colder than a fridge! More like the temperature outside the building! So Bill payment time, My mother mentioned once again to the staff member that the food was cold and in a nice way " awful " he left to get the bill and arrived with the full bill £18.71 which included a small 10% discount for the cold meal minus the 3 x cold drinks which we had returned earlier. At this point I approached the " Manager " and said to me ok just pay £18, however i had mentioned to him that was not good enough as the only part of the meal that was of satifactery quality were the 2 starters which totals at £9 for the 2 plates. And had seen we had returned almost 1/3 of our main dishes back each ( all the way through this pollava - in his language it seemed he was questioning his staff why was the food cold on this serving etc etc ) . I mentioned also that a complaint would be put in, and his answer was "We/I can only have 10% to give". So at that point I gave him a £20 note and expected £2 in return but recieved £5 - we would spend almost double that amount in most resteraunts its NOT about the generosity of the manager. But about the service to start with and the improvments that they can make to not only their customer service but also the premises as to add warmth and HEAT the food up and a way to keep it warm. Please feel to contact me or if you feel different about this review then I`m not going to be swayed away from my Review on the Night that we had frequented this establishment. P.s My wife just mentioned to me that the Toilet facilities were in need of a thorough clean.

Popped in to get a takeaway lunch midweek and ordered channa masala, cauliflower curry and 3 chapattis. Was told it would take about 10 mins to prepare as it was being made fresh, so popped out to the local shops to get some groceries. Picked up my food and upon getting home, discovered that my cauliflower curry was in fact a (horrible) mixed veg curry and that my channa masala contained about 10 solitary chick peas (the rest of the container was simply sauce). Both of these were from the buffet (which I had checked in the store before ordering), and not freshly made. Not only this, but the containers had leaked in the bag, so quite a messy affair all round. I'm loathe to give bad reviews, and these guys are pretty good when you eat in store (although the service is poor). I would not recommend them for a takeaway. There are better options on this road.

One thing I would say I have noticed is that the quality of the food does vary with which branch you visit. This is the best I have visited the Leicester one is particularly bad.

The price and quality at this restaurant has always been amazing. Quick service. Friendly staff. Excellent prices. Yummy food. However something has changed recently and the quality isn't the same anymore. It is worth visiting because still great price but if you've been in the past you'll notice standards have dropped.

When in London, being a south Indian, I tend to search for south Indian food and found Chennai Dosa very good. The buffet is great. Wide variety of food at very very affordable cost. The same kind of stuff or even inferior quality food in central London costs you 10 times more compared to this restaurant. Very good service. The amount of chutney they give drains you and the taste lingers in for hours.

I have been to Chennai Dosa many times. In the beginning I thought they were quite good and at one point in 2008 I used to visit them quite frequently to have my lunch, get food packed for breakfast etc. But, nowadays I do not think the quality has remained the same. I recently bought Upma and Pongal both were rubbish. It didn't taste that well. I don't I will buy again from them.

I have been having Chilly fried idly at this restaurant for i guess 4-5 years and really have to admit it was one of the best in the whole World.Really i could not find the same taste in India anywhere. But my last visit is the one i was not happy with.Their south indian food is fine good quality just as normal restaurants are but the only thing i loved was chillly fried idly and would travel to East ham only for that. The taste has changed and its not that spicy as it used to be.I mean it was so spicy and tasty that you will have to keep a glass of milk while eating that.I would return if that taste, flavour and spice comes back to chilly fried Idly.Else would not even have a meal there.

I come from Clapham to eat here at least twice a month. Admittedly, it's not the sort of place you would chose if you looking for galmour but for tastey, good quality south Indian food at is very hard to beat.

Would rate Chennai Dosa above many other Indian restaurants in Tooting . Very good customer service, tasty food and ok ambience with nominal prices. Very generous with accompaniments like chutneys. Overall a restaurant we as a family would keep going .

If you happen to be in East Ham then it's great for South Indian food. We are at the one in Birmingham and it seems the food is consistently great, if you like that sort of thing

This place has all the decor and charm of a run-down university basement cafe. BUT the food is authentic, delicious and cheap. My wife and I had 2 courses each (of their more expensive dishes) and a few mango lassis - total bill £30. You can pay twice that in Brick Lane for the same or lower quality. I'd steer well clear of the Brick Lane tourist trap, try East Ham or Tooting instead.

Stayed with our daughters in Balham. Our second visit here and always amazed at the final bill after starters, main meal and desserts being so low compared to other expensive London restaurants. Service and food good. Worth a visit for south Indian dishes.

Superb breakfast buffett and judging by the almost full restaurant at 11.30 am on Sunday this is clearly a very popular branch. Everything was freshly cooked with good turnover. The waiter was very helpful and understanding with my 80 year old father who has difficulty walking so this branch is highly recomended. The choice in the buffett was excellent

Two conflicting reviews so I feel obliged to write.I regularly visit Tooting as my parents live there. There are plenty of south indian restaurants locally.. I consider this one to be better than the others except for Saravana Bhavan which I rate very highly. This restaurant serves good down to earth street food as you would find it in India. It's star attraction is the masala dosa so don't be distracted by the hundreds of other items on the menu or the buffet. If like me you get the occassional craving for a massala dosa then this is the place to visit. Order other items around the massala dosa if you wish. You don't have to order everything in one go with this type of restaurant. Our party consisted of six so we ordered a number of items - one at a time - to try and pass around. Everyone in the group was happy with the meal. In conclusion it is a matter of taste and what you order. Order the wrong items and you may be disappointed.

I have been to this restaurant four times in the past two months, and had the buffet three times. In fact, I'm going there again for lunch today. I felt compelled to write after reading the response below, which I completely disagree with. The "watery" dishes are supposed to be like that! The flavours are great, the curries do taste different (although perhaps not to someone who doesn't eat a lot of Indian) and they are all fresh. There's a good selection, and it offers excellent value, especially given that you get chappati and popadoms, plus a sweet. The staff are great, it's always busy with a good vibe, and offers excellent value for money.

I went to Chennai Dosa [CD] - TOOTING BRANCH, last Saturday with a very dear German friend of mine, getting lured by the buffet and the fact that I can have a variety of South Indian Dishes and introduce them to someone who already knows a lot about Indian food having been there 4 times. Alas my greed got the better of me! I actually had printed the map to the Tooting branch and walked all the way from Tooting Broadway and was welcomed alright but was utterly disappointed. It looked cute with a proper stainless steel thali [plate] with 7 katoris [small bowls for the food] and the buffet was awful. I am probably being polite by calling it only awful. There was just one dry dish of dry/spicy potatoes and everything else that tasted all the same was watery and liquid. Now I do know the difference between Rasam & Sambhar etc so I am not being unfair by being so judgemental but believe me it was terrible. Apart from me almost drowning in my own sweat due to the food being so hot [ ok, I confess that I have a very limited threshold of taking hot fod even with my Indian origins ] Its the actual quality that I was saddened by. The only good thing was the South Indian styled buttermilk that was my saving grace. Look around me, it did ocvcur to me that perhaps I should have taken a'la carte and just ha da dosa but then saw that the Sambhar was being picked from the buffet as and when the dosas came in so that too would have been a disappointment! I had chosen to try CD on strong recommendations from an Indian friend of mine and she will not hear it well from me!! Over all sorry, even having seen that the guest is hardly touching anything and have not gone for seconds or is tasting one spoon of everything and then just pushing the thali away, the staff was just not bothered to ask how the food was. Perhaps they knew and were used to ractions as such. Even though I paid for the so called non veg buffet, when I saw the chicken and the mean dish I just could not be bothered. Over all a BIG NO NO from me or I was just unlucky! We will never know as I will not be stepping in there ever again.

I had a very disappointing experience at Indi-Go Rasoi in Westfield Stratford. I ordered the Chicken Masala, expecting a flavorful and satisfying dish, but it was completely the opposite. The chicken was bland and lacked any of the rich spices that you would expect from a proper masala. It tasted like they barely put any effort into seasoning it, leaving me with a dish that was utterly tasteless. For a place that markets itself as serving authentic Indian food, this was a huge letdown. I definitely won't be coming back, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a decent meal. Save your money and try one of the other options in the food court instead.

I went today for lunch bite poori masala and filter coffee. Staff were very hospitable and kind enough for me to use plug point near to the table as well a bringing me cutlery to the table with privacy from others ( working lunch) The poori masala was fresh and puffed with lovely masala potato and veg korma and to end with a hot filter coffee. See you again Raj

Everything is amazing except due to the small entrance area, it can become chaotic and confusing but it’s not a reason not to always get my sweets from there
