Chennai Dosa in Croydon

Ordered from here for the first time on Ubereats, got the order quickly and food tasted fantastic, really authentic. It’s hard when you order dosa as it’s always best fresh, so we popped our stuffed dosa in the oven for about 5 mins and it was perfect. Really hit the spot for the South Indian food craving I had after my travels. We ordered the Masala Dosa, Palak Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala (we know not really an Indian dish but v tasty all the same!) and Rasam. The menu doesn’t t make it easy to figure out what’s in each dish but they separate the menu to show vegetarian options, but if you don’t know Indian dishes and you have dietary requirements this maybe an issue.

I enjoyed my experience at this place. I had a lot of fun and the service I received was nothing short of exceptional. The people serving my food were delightful and kind. They elevated my experience and I recommend giving this place a visit for their amazing South Indian food

Good South Indian Food. That's how this can be described. You will get the classic dosas, idlis and Wadai with Sambhar ans Chutney also a good variety of meat, chicken and fish for starters and Mains. Comfort food, has a taste of the Indian kitchen. They also a good drinks list. You will get a choice of beers and all spirits. Some interesting Indian local drinks too. However, it can be a bit hit and miss at times. But nothing to stop us from going back. Service is consistent, food arrives when ready. Mostly sharing plates. Atmosphere is basic and clean. Recommendation- Gobhi 65 and Khuska

I visited the place last year while I was pregnant.I can still feel the taste of the dishes, such an authentic flavour of south Indian dish. Its 2 hours drive from my place.But will definitely visit again. Fish curry is a must try, in case one loves to taste hometown flavour and have a mouth watering moment. Thank you Chef 😊

Customer service is bad . The staff was didn’t respect for customer we are waiting . I think staff name is raja. To restaurant we are came for dine in . They not respect properly. So we leave the restaurant

Had lunch on 20th January with family and friends, Nice hospitality and never had a Non-Veg taste in UK. Tried Chicken 65, Mutton Biriyani, Mutton Chukka, Veg Thali and other foods all are excellant. Thanks to Mr. Ravi

Just loooove the food! The south Indian spread is absolutely delicious and authentic. Do try their filter coffee! The staff is friendly and although they could do with better seating, they are light on the pocket so it's okay 😄

Good place to have an indian meal to take a break from home or brit food. The parota are definetely worth the try. For a starter sambhad wada is good. Lots of menu options.

Ordered masala dosas, they were as expected. The furniture was a bit dump. Apparently, the place is getting a makeover, including new furniture soon.

Absolute disgrace for an indian food restaurant- calling themselves a south indian restaurant is even more an insult to the rich culinary tradition and culture of south india. Most of the toxic food delivered today through Deliveroo went in the bin, called them to complain, pathetic excuse provided. They are cheating the british public in the south of croydon in the name of indian food - totally avoid this establishment for the good of your health, pocket and wellbeing.

I would rate it on a high for the taste and quality of the food. But the restaurant lags in the service space, where they need to improve a lot in addressing the customers.

Food was good! Ordered a ghee dosa which was very crispy. Mint chutney was amazing. Lovely masala tea.

Good authentic southern Indian restaurant and friendly staff. They also do indo Chinese dishes and North Indian dishes . Overall the food was very good . Vegetarian dum biryani was good in taste but very hot so not for the faint heated

Best Indian food near Croydon area.

Lately, the quantity of chutney they provide with their idle and dosa servings has been quite insufficient. Despite my previous order of three or more portions, they failed to fulfill their promise of sending a larger quantity of chutney. This inconsistency has left me disappointed, and regrettably, I won't be patronizing them again. It's disheartening as I used to be a great fan of this place.

The restaurant offers good variety of food options. The service was pleasing and food was good. Overall, the experience was not bad.

We’ve been going here for 3 years and food has been consistently very good and authentic. Great dosai, kothu and channa batura. The chutneys for dosai are full of flavour and not watered down like some places.

Go there for the food. The idlis are melt in mouth. The service might not always be great.

It was a good experience, staff is very helpful and cooperative. I had a masala dosa it was very tasty brought back memories from back home 🇮🇳. only thing I would recommend to the restaurant is when your name is ‘Chennai Dosa’ I was expecting dosa to be nice and thick and not like thin chapati. However this is my opinion. But I enjoyed every bite of it.

Tried South Indian and they were tasty. Only gripe is they don't provide extra side dishes despite asking. I did a takeaway btw.

I ordered a spicy masala dosa and it was delicious - the waiter took time to check I definitely wanted a spicy one and I assured him I did. Filtered water was offered with my meal. Very reasonably priced.

Good South Indian restaurant with lot of options.

My native is Udupi (birthplace of Dosa) and I must say that the dosa is authentic. I had the mysore masala dosa and it was excellent. The coconut and coriander chutney felt like they were just out of my mom's kitchen. Thank you so much for an amazing meal and service!!!

I tried the dosa and it was very nice it had a very nice flavour, taste and it was seasoned to perfection true India taste but then I tried to soup and it had a bit of a different and it wasn't that good but if you come to this place try the dosa other than that it's a great price

We are just went to restaurant on 10 th April, we ordered some food and it was nice. The service was very poor particularly the boy who served for us like short and black has some beard. He looks too ugly and even don't respond properly. He was not aware about the food ingredients. Request to keep the knowledgeable person and decent guy.

I would have give a half star if there is an option. Customers care is totally hopeless, and the atmosphere is totally disgusting. The hand wash area is unhygenic and smells horrible. I wonder how their cooking condition is?Really disappointed with the service they provided and will never ever go there. We have plenty of alternatives. Really surprised when the waiter brought sandwich plate for main meal and he did not notice until his colleague told him. Really embarressed.

This restaurant unhygienic and staff was un professional and they don't know how to behave the customer,their Washing area disgusting, their kitchen not proper clean, why the council not checking this place,food is rubbish,

If I could give zero I would. Lacked any sort of ambiance. Had a lingering smell of stale wee in the air. Floors were sticky. Food brought out at different times, from the first to the final fourth dish there was a 15/20 min gap and it wasn’t even busy. Food sloppy, no neatly presented dishes. I asked for a container to take the dessert home and was brought a dirty container, they said it was from which the dessert came - totally unacceptable. There are plenty more nicer places in the Croydon area - avoid this one at all cost.

Went on 24 Aug, 2021 around 7pm, ordered Chana Batura- The chana gravy was not good at all, I left the food half eaten. Ordered another item as takeaway, but as per menu they missed to pack 1 Medu vada however charged full amount. Sambar and green chutney was not upto the mark as well. Not at all worth the time, money that I tried this place.

Food was below average. The place is falling apart. Everything is broken. Chairs were wobbly and uncomfortable to sit on to have food. Staff were good

The service is absolutely abysmal. Went there for lunch......four staff on and not that busy. Took them ten minutes to take our order, another half an hour just to get our drinks. Curry described as boneless indeed came on the bone, and the naan bread wasn't even cooked in a tandoori.

Awful customer service. Ordered food to be collected at 12pm and wasn't ready until 1pm! No apologies nothing. . Will never order here again!

My experience with them is mostly good.This time took a home delivery and rest others were ok but this Paneer Ottapam was a big shock for us.We did have paneer ottapam earlier from them but this time it was something not expected. The picture is attached ...in noway it looks like Ottapam nor have i ever seen cubes of paneer thrown over the panecake in an ugly way.Very disappointed with this .So i except Chennai Dosa to look into it and improve its quality and plating. It was a disaster.

Briyani was not good but the other items that we had was ok and some were good. Service is not very good.

Even though the food is pathetic and the service is disastrous, they will remove the extra "service charge" they put on your bill if you raise a concern.

Authentic flavours and decent service.

We are very pleased with the atten and service we received. Super fresh delicious. I had great time eating delicious food at your restaurant.

A great place to enjoy south Indian cuisine, especially dosa. It is spacious and well laid out with tables, comfortable chairs and has a good atmosphere. The staff are friendly and patient. The starters and main dishes were all very well presented and were very tasty. They were happy to give us extra samber and chutneys. The restaurant was very busy midweek, which shows its popularity. Parking in the evenings isn't a problem as there are plenty of free spaces around the local area.

Who doesn't love a dosa. If you haven't tried one then you should think about it!

Average restaurant for south Indian food

Never did a dine-in, but ordered through Uber eats app and also from their website directly over the last 1 year. This was the first restaurant I ordered food after moving to Croydon. Like their vegetarian Thali - it is actually sufficient for 2 people and very reasonable price. Thali (full meals) is a bang on for South indian food lovers (5/5). Ordered thali at least 3-4 times. Tried their tiffins as well, masala dosa (4/5), sambhar idly, also mini idly (4/5), wada or vadai with and without sambar (4.5/5), vegetable kurma (2.5/5) - Kurma didn't taste good at all. Kadai paneer was good and not too much oil. I can easily give 4.5/5, and I asked them to make it a bit spicy, but they didn't consider it. Else, I would have rated 5/5 for kadai paneer. Never got a chance to dine in person, hope will get sometime in the future.

Best place for a family and friends dinning. Food was flavourful and felt like back home.

Ordered takeaway from here a few times and really disappointed with how spicy the food has become. The veg biryani and chicken manchurian were so spicy that it was inedible. The chicken manchurian was also very dry. Will stick to ordering dosas only if ever need to. Their other dishes are just not worth it.

On separate occasions, we have ordered mutton rolls, mutton biryani, masala dosas and Chettinad mutton curry. As everything has tasted good, this would be my first choice for eating out/takeaway in Croydon.

A day light robbery of £8 for a TAKE AWAY of a mere mixed Ottappam. Where as the same dish costs £6.49 in Saravana bhuvan tooting and that too EAT IN. CHENNAI DOSA 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

A total nightmare which started badly and went downhill. Seven of us went for Sunday lunch, the place was dead which should have been a warning. The lighting was unpleasant and the gents toilet grubby and smelly. The staff took ages to come to our table and even longer before they came back for an order. One of the party has a nut allergy and as instructed on the several signs around the restaurant we told the staff about this every time we interacted with them. We ordered a selection of starters, which we were assured were nut free. When they arrived, they were bland and greasy and the masala Poppadom was soggy. After we'd eaten these the allergic member of our party began to react to the nut traces that had been in her food despite us telling them about her allergy and being assured that none of it contained nuts. At this point the main courses started to arrive including her paneer dish which we had checked at least twice didn't contain nuts, we checked again the waiter went to the kitchen and came back and assured us that there were no nuts in it. Fortunately, she waited for the other people to be served because another waiter came back five minutes later and told us that it contained cashew nuts. At this point we all left having totally lost confidence in the ability of the restaurant to provide safe food. In summary: the food we had was mediocre and the restaurant is so poorly managed that it is dangerous. Avoid.

After eating the starters my sister rushed to the bathroom where she had a small reaction where her lip had swollen up, her throat was closing and she had thrown up - meaning there were nuts in the starters, even though he said there were not. He then apologised and we asked him again if the palak panner had nuts in. (She ordered that for her main) we had little faith so asked him again does it have nuts and the waiter asked the chef and came back and said no it does not have nuts. My sister had just come back and sat down at the table when the waiter comes back and says the food has cashew nuts in. We've been a few times since it changed location and owner. The food is generally great, especially the dosas. Slightly disappointing biryani. Food does come out when ready and not necessarily at the same time.

Had the mutton biriyani the flavours were nice but I did notice that alot of the meat pieces were charred so the meat was tough, I had a day shopping and was too tired to go back with it. The other dish I ordered was Gobi Manchurian that was nice but a bit too hot.

Food was absolutely amazing. We orderd a lots and not a single dish disappointed us. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Very friendly staff and good price.

The food lacked taste, seems to have gone down since the last visit.

Absolute chaos!Have to wait for 15 minutes and call a person to take an order.Food was served after an hour and in the meantime all the other 5 tables around us started questioning the bearer how long to wait for the food.The food we ordered was served to the table next to us and then they brought it to our table once the customer said this is not what they ordered.Food was fine except the falooda which was watery like a rose syrup.overall a very bad customer service.

I ordered an Chenni Dosa Lamb masala. Which tasted okay and was well presented. I think I was not into the food because the restaurant was dirty,sticky, run down and un- kept, Which I felt let the whole venue down. I would not go back or recommend this place to eat.

Been going there from last few years. Defo improved in quality a lot. Tried chicken lollipop, chilli chicken and few veggies dishes. All great. Worth trying.

We had gone for breakfast there. We ordered the 9£ breakfast combo - 1 idli, 1 wada, 1 big size poori sabzi, 1 masala dosa, 1 pongal , 1 kesari halwa and 1 tea/coffee and condiments ofcourse chutney 3 types and sambar. It was so much for even 2 of us and even my lil one (3.5 year) had it...they have this only on weekends from 9 am to 12am...the taste, hygiene and service everything is really good...don't about regular options since we went in the morning which had only breakfast options...one should visit here

Worst service I ever had in UK.

Very friendly staff.. definitely recommend eating in rather than a takeaway. Food served in the restaurant is hot, crispy and this makes the food a lot tastier.

Taste is good but service is very very poor.

Use to always get delivered via Deliveroo but decided to dine in. Its massive difference dining-in vs delivery. The dosa's and Idllis were great and service was quick for lunch time.

Okay food but appalling customer service. Been here a couple of times when visiting Indian friends and every time we have had to wait at least 20-30 minutes for a simple order of two Dosas. This with just two other tables so it is not like they were busy. Even during the busy periods it is just two staff covering a huge area of tables. The staff seem overworked and lost. They are severely understaffed and it looks like management does not care. Another 20 minute wait to get the bill after…. If you value your time I’d suggest going to the other Indian restaurants in the area. Much better service and food.

5 stars for the food. Given 4 stars because staff are a bit grumpy. Could smile a bit more. Love their masala dosa and masala mogo. We keep going back.
