Went for a takeaway at the Cheng du last evening, given the previous comments about it the expectations were high. But, unfortunately it has been a big disappointment. I ordered a chicken cow mein and an egg fried rice and for my partner, a beef chow mien and beef fried rice with two orders of bbq spare rib sauce. The noodles were dry and tasteless as was the rice and the sauce tasted cheap and full of just vinegar. For the price of it I am shocked of how terrible the food tasted. This isn’t the first time I have eaten here and been let down by the food but this has been the worst of my experiences. Never again shall I be eating here.

It's changed since Covid as one cannot dine inside anymore. I tend to go to another Chinese takeaway in town as it is cheaper, but this restaurant has always had MUCH better food and the prices aren't so different anymore. I forgot how much I enjoyed their food. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND them! I'm certainly returning every time I want Chinese!

We could only find this Chinese takeaway open on Monday so, despite the prices being more than others locally, ie in Winslow, Bletchley, Milton Keynes, we decided to give it a try. We asked for a mixed starter but could only order a minimum of 2 despite only wanting 1. The food was ok but we won't be hurrying back. The portions weren't huge, the prices were high and the food was all a bit bland. Such a shame as it was for a birthday treat.

Surprised to see critical reviews. We enjoyed our visit, the first since leaving the area some years ago. We received a warm welcome and very friendly and attentive service. The cold Chinese beers were a superb appetiser; crispy duck and pancakes superb; our mains, chicken sweet and sour Hong Kong style, mixed vegetables and egg fried rice all delicious, leaving no room for a sweet. All in all very good quality, service and value for money. we'd certainly go back if in the area.

Very over priced! I went on Friday the 14th February with my two daughters and we had a terrible meal. There is a set menu at £29 each. I’ve had it before and it was really good but last Friday we had three of these menus but the portion was for one or two let alone 3! Regardless of the amount of people, they seem to serve the same amount of food and make a fortune! I will never go back again and I will inform as many people as possible. On leaving the restaurant I read the menu again and it confirmed that we had been ripped off! Stay away! I paid £100 for three and we were hungry when we left- not acceptable!

Vegetarian/vegan options seem rather limited in Buckingham. Chang Du have a vegetarian/Vegan menu. We found the vegetarian crispy “duck” and pancakes a tasty and generously-sized portion for two. The aubergine in black bean sauce with Singapore rice was also yummy! My partner also enjoyed the Chinese tea! Friendly, attentive service and, I thought, reasonably priced.

Expensive and 100% not worth it. The crispy aromatic duck came out (already cut and shredded?!), looked grey and dry. It was also slightly cold. We also ordered a chicken noodle dish which had an approximate grand total of 3 pieces of chicken. I literally have no idea how this restaurant has good reviews, maybe because there aren't many asian restaurants in Buckingham. I feel genuinely sorry for anyone who thinks the below average, rubbish they serve at their PREMIUM PRICES is anything close to good. NEVER COMING BACK HERE THAT'S FOR SURE.

Really disappointed by my experience here, especially given the positive reviews and extremely high prices, even compared to London. Came here with a friend, we ordered half an aromatic duck and charsiu pork and egg fried rice. The duck came out already chopped and abnormally quickly. Ive never experienced the duck already coming out prechopped. That, as well as the greyish, dry looking duck made me doubt whether it was cooked fresh or just reheated. Not great at all.The charsiu pork was served on a HEAP of beansprouts, I can only assume this is to cover up the fact that there was only 9 pieces of pork. The waitress would stare at me for awkward amounts of time, making me feel uncomfortably. We both walked away feeling really ripped off. Will definitely not be returning

The restaurant wasn't that full when we arrived but filled up pretty quickly. We were given a menu and we had a look throught and there is alot to choose from. I went for the chicken with cashew nuts and my friend went for sweet and sour chicken, we started with spring rolls and we shared the vegetables. The staff were friendly and didn't rush us with the meal. The portions were pretty big so we were both pretty stuffed by the end. It got very warm at one stage and realised there wasn't any ventilation so felt a little stuffy and couldn't wait to get outside for some fresh air. Not bad though.

Came here with my boyfriend for our cheat meal/date night last Saturday. We have had a takeaway from here a couple of times but fancied actually going to the restaurant. Honestly, the food here is exceptional. Easily the best Chinese in Buckingham, in fact one of the best ive ever been to. Its absolutely gorgeous food. They do sechzuan, asian, chinese and some thai. The restaurant was packed and the takeaway area was overflowing which is fantastic. We had the mixed starter which consisted of seaweed, vegetable spring rolls, chicken satay skewers, prawn toast, spare ribs, wontons and a sweet/sour dipping sauce. It was all so fresh and beautiful, the menu doesnt indicate what you will get so we just went for it because we like most starters! I loved it! For mains, we both had sweet & sour chicken, chicken chow mein and egg fried rice. None of it was greasy or oily. Stunning food, full of flavour and spice and I cannot wait to try all the other dishes. Great service even though they were completely rushed off their feet! One thing I would mention the prices reflect how stunning the food is but the takeaway prices/restaurant prices differ massively. Anyway, well done guys.

We visited Chengdu last night purely for the soft shell crab but were happy to try other dishes on the menu too. The crab was exquisite, truly delicious and well worth the trip. I had a fillet of lamb with capital sauce which was really well cooked and tasted lovely- the sauce was sticky, sweet and exactly what I wanted! My partner had squid flowers in a satay sauce which was very well balanced in spice, and the squid was very soft and moreish. The noodles which accompanied the dishes were very well seasoned and cooked- the perfect side dish (they were not greasy at all). The only negative would be that it was quite pricey but you do need to pay for quality. A very nice meal, and lovely staff, thank you chengdu!

In my opinion tofu is disgusting and just because I am vegetarian doesn't mean I should have to suffer the rubber or it be assumed I would want it contaminating my vegetable chow mein or other dishes. Ruined my entire meal and left me furious with the service before I'd even bothered eating it. Thanks for ignoring customer requests, making assumptions, keeping us waiting for food and ruining a Friday night takeaway. Not that hard to get an order right!

We love this chinese the food is of a very high quality, and you can also have it as a takeaway, we have been going here for over 15 years, its now under new management, so its lost some of its family authenticty, but the food is still great.

Recently moved to the area and read the mixed reviews but thought we would give it a go anyway. There were two of us and we ordered the same as we did from our old Chinese takeaway. The food was great, very tasty. The price was about £4 more than we used to pay.We will go back again though because the food was great.

Have visited here loads of times over the years and have noticed just recently the service has become sub standard. Food is fine; staff awful How's this; walk in at 9.30 pm asking for a table for 2 and the waiter recommends the take-away around the corner because they are shutting at 10.30!! So made a point of sitting in, eating and constantly complain about the staff attitude then left at 10.35. NO TIP. Will never go back.

The restaurant was recommended by the B&B we were staying at and certainly didn't disappoint. Quite quiet on a Monday evening, very attentive service, excellent food. Prices at the upper end of what I'd expect for a standard Chinese restaurant, but no complaints considering the quality. Very satisfied all round.

Eat in here quite often and always have a good meal (Especially the Squid) the only downside is like other people mention it is priced a little on the steep side. I suppose it's the fact that they are not in competition with anyone so can get away with it basically?

We're local and often eat out in and around Buckingham. The food here is great - as is the service but I and my family have decided to boycott the restaurant whilst Sharks Fin Soup remains on the menu. There is simply no need to be offering this to the people of Buckingham - most of whom will be blissfully unaware that around 70 million sharks a year are killed for their fins.Aside of that and if you can stomach the fact that Chengdu contributes towards the depletion of sharks (a critical part of our eco-system), you can expect reasonable Chinese cuisine and better than average service.

This used to be an upmarket well run Chinese restaurant, but has clearly changed hands. We went earlier this year and the only thing that hasn't changed is the price. A really expensive meal and I have tasted better Chinese food from one of those selection packs in the supermarket - avoid going here at all costs

After going there with a group of friend. Myself being vegetarian found the food very good (lacking a in the number of mains), and the service was excellent two. Only downside was the bill come £85 for three of us, we had starter, main each and two soft drinks.

As a Chinese, their 'grandma' tofu is exactly traditional dish back home. My European friends influence me to start to like sweet and sour chicken which is totally different from the original dish. It's definitely sweeter than originally, however the chicken taste perfectly crunchy even with the sauce. Cuz some of the restaurant wouldn't give that texture which is like the sauce and the meat combine together is like 'Marshmallow' texture. Love the restaurant!

Have never been to Buckingham before, so after look round and few drinks, decided on chengdu. We hadn't booked, and being a Saturday evening, it was busy, but we managed to get the last empty table. Thought we may have had a bit of a wait, but the service was really good and the food was excellent. We decided on the set meal for 4 and we all enjoyed everything on it. I would not hesitate in recommending this place to anyone, in fact we have rebooked already, even though we have bit of a journey to get there.

We all eat Chinese food regularly these days, but it isn't often that you can enthuse about such a meal. The restaurant was tucked away in a small shopping arcade near Waitrose but was very busy on a Friday night both with diners and take away customers. Our food was by far the best Chinese we've eaten ever. Service was immaculate and we would definitely recommend this restaurant to others and hope to visit again when in the area.

Having just been out with friends for a Sunday lunch time treat I have to say that I wish we hadn't! The company was fantastic - the food and service anything but. In the interests of being fair, the squid starter was lovely but that's pretty well it on the plus side. There wasn't really a great deal of taste to much of the food and it came out of the kitchen in dribs and drabs. Our five main courses took five minutes from first to last to arrive at the table - it's a really nice idea giving us warmed bowls and plates to eat from - but what's the point if they are going to have gone cold before the food arrives? And frankly, for what we got, the final bill was outrageous.I have absolutely no desire to return to this place and every reason to suggest that virtually any dining experience is going to be better than that offered in the Chengdu.

I went here for the 4th time, against my will. I was outvoted by some visiting friends who wanted Chinese, even though I recommended against this place. I've lowered my rating to 1 star, because this meal wasn't average. It was bad. Chicken and beef were completely without flavor. They had been covered in soggy, bland sauce. The so called spicy dishes were the same bland gluey sauce on meat, and the same soggy onions, but with red pepper put in them. Ribs were greasy. Soup broth was watery, and wontons had an overly fishy taste and smell. Lettuce for the lettuce wrap once again came soaking wet. Actual drips of water were coming off the lettuce onto the plate. Curry was the same old heavy mess that you can get at any cheap little joint in England, for allot less. The food tastes like the chefs at Chengdu are barely even trying. My goodness, the onions all over the dishes were barely cooked; They were just slightly softened, but nothing else. And they were everywhere, along with water chestnuts and bamboo shoots that all tasted canned. Pretty bad. Service is perfunctory.

Chengdu is a pretty bad restaurant. The food is highly overrated, and the service is uncaring. People eat here, I suspect, because there isn't another decent Chinese choice in the area. Food all tastes the same: lots of soggy onions and lots of pasty starch. Food store package style prawns, and boring boring chicken dishes. There's no real flavor in anything, and they cook over and over in the same dirty wok. I can taste the old grease on the food. They don't wash out the woks and put in fresh oil often enough. Nasty little spring rolls. Weak wonton broth. Beef is not tender and pork and chicken dishes were way too sweet...almost sugary and sick tasting. This is just terrible food. Avoid.

Well we went for new years, and although the food was hot it was a rather high priced set menu for the night. I enjoyed my meal but my husband was every ill for the next 2 days, he did eat the pork ribs that I didn't so we put it down to that. The place looked clean and the service was good.
