Cheikhos in Oadby and Wigston

Had a lovely two course meal, the mussels to start were lovely and I had signature steak dish for main which was great to! The front of house guy was lovely and so friendly and helpful and pleasant and couldn't do enough for you! Lovely little restaurant thats authentic and nice to support these places rather than big chains!

Honestly the only redeeming things about this restaurant were Ben and the mussels. The wine, which is charged at £17.50 on the menu was a bottle from lidl which costs £3.89!! The mussels starter was delicious but had chunks of almost raw onion in the sauce. My partners starter tasted good but looked like it had been thrown on the plate. I ordered the sea bass fillet and my partner the seafood fiesta. The fish was genuinely the worst I've ever had. It was dry and nothing like it was described on the menu. And I'm certain it wasn't sea bass. The sauce was inedible. The seafood fiesta contained a langoustine which had no meat inside, 2 prawns which were almost impossible to peel and exactly the same dry, inedible, fish which I had. Ben, who is a wonderful, polite young man gives fantastic service and was mortified about the state of the food which was served. We tipped him, as he deserved it. The food was already, unfortunately,paid for as we had a voucher but he kindly refused to charge us for the wine. I was very surprised after reading the reviews on here at how bad the food was. It felt like there was no love or passion put into the food which was served. Having worked in kitchens for a long time I would NEVER let food like that leave my kitchen.

We have been coming to Cheikhos off and on for quite a few years and it never disappoints. The food is very good indeed, especially the Diablo Moules 😀 Tonight we brought my parents for the first time and they loved it too!! Cheikhos had a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the personal service in this family run restaurant is as good as it gets.

Good food but bad service skills food was very good sides were very small though, two waitresses on add to tell him several times to clear the table of eight. My partner found this place on groupon so we tried it we walked in and was greeted by a lovely man called ben who we found out it was his dad doing the food so it was a father and son set up ben was so on the ball the food was delicious so we tried it again still was delicious the next time and ben always welcoming didn’t go for a long time then went last night and felt so relaxed bens dad greeted us and was so endearing and they both couldn’t do enough it is so relaxing and we just love the small but lovely feeling just needs a little tlc on the place but would recommend this place for that special and relaxing place well done for such a small and family run place see you soon keep up the great work

So I've lived in the area for many years and always passed this restaurant and thought I must visit but have never taken the time to. After a stressful day at work I decided to take the better half out and as we didn't want to go far we booked a table here last minute. The restaurant itself is a converted house and there's approximately 6/7 tables downstairs with a function room and toilets upstairs. There was two other parties currently in and the one and only waiter greeted us as we came in and told us to sit wherever we wanted to. We ate starter, main and desert and the food was absolutely gorgeous and reasonably priced with three courses for two people including wine coming to just £65 with no deals in play but I do know you can get Wowcher and similar offers which I'll think about next time. There is also 2 and 3 set courses as well. I went for the Moules for a starter and this could have easily been a main course with the size it was. It came with the standard white wine sauce which was tasty but I felt could have been a little more creamy for my taste. There was only two 'closed' shells in the whole dish and the bread roll on top was clearly just fresh out the oven. My partner ordered the mushroom and this was incredibly cheesy (good thing!) For mains I went for the sirloin steak served on a bed of mash medium rare. The steak was lovely and flavourful with a lovely char on top and the mash lovely and creamy. Spot on. My patner went for the seafood fiesta which she enjoyed but we ordered a side of fries as it didn't come with any carbs. Also the intestines weren't removed from the king prawns which was a shame. Deserts were a limoncello and a Creme Brule. Both very tasty - but disappointing that the limoncello came with a walnut on top as I'd put I was allergic to nuts on the booking - but it's only a mild allergy so I just removed it and carried on eating which I'm glad I did as it was beautiful and creamy. The Creme Brule was nice but wasn't crispy on top. Overall whilst there was a couple of issues with the food the service more than made up for it and easily earned that five stars. The food was tasty and filling and really good value - very rare you can get a steak course for less than £20 these days. The food was also really well presented showing the care that the Chef puts in to his work. By the end of the meal we were the only people left and we had a good chat with the server who advised that his Dad is the chef and he's been running the place for the last 18 years - wow! Support local and go visit this little gem!

We just had a meal here today and prob one of the worst meals I've had. First thing when we walked in we were led to our table right at the end near the window,extremely crapped in there. Currently due to covid there should be social distancing but here non what so ever! The chap next to me was half an arms length. Throughout the whole place nobody was even an half meter apart from each other let alone the 2 meter or 1 meter plus with mitigation. We felt really uncomfortable there throughout the whole meal. Then soon as I sat down first thing I saw and noticed was the crazy amount of dust on the divider near the window. Within minutes my wife started sneezing ( which u can imagine gets looks in these times but was cos of dust) and then I saw the window sill all dirt and covered in cobwebs, cracks on the window. Then he came to take out order I ordered pasta and explicitly as no courgettes as I didn't want them in there when it arrived lo and behold courgettes! We ate anyways without winging or complaining. 2 chaps came to a table near us ( very near) and they seemed to have had some problem too the man insisted he'd booked in and I overheard the owner say ( you're here now u got your table) no apologies just blaming the other guy. We finished out meal and just sat there for more than 15 min waiting for him to come close enough so we can call him and ask for the bill but we couldn't. He was a one man band running around doing it all himself bringing food to people and disappearing in the kitchen etc if hes busy he shoukd employ waiting staff. Finally asked for the bill, waited another 10 min and still no show by now mu wifes frustrated cos she needs the loo and was getting hot in there and she wasn't gonna use the loo in this place after seeing somebody's review on google. She left and waited outside to get air and I had to leave my table and go to the till to finally pay cos he didn't bring the bill around to me. So he gives me the bill. It came up to £43.45 with the £20 knocked off with eat out to help out. I gave him exact £45 cash,soon as I gave it him he put it all in his pocket, isn't money meant to go in the till? Also I'm there waiting for my change as I wasnt too impressed or else I wouldn't have bothered with the change. I said "can I get the change please" then he dipped his hand in his pocket murmuringly and took out loose change and gave it to me saying "I thought it was my tip". You should give full change back and if the person wants to give it to you they'll say "keep the change" you dont decide for them and keep the change without the customer saying so, it's not about the small change it's a matter of principle. I called him back as we saw an error in the bill and he'd over charged us anyways by £4-£5. I definitely won't be returning.

We booked on an automated telephone service and when we arrived we got told off by the owner for not letting him know we had a Groupon! How can you do that on an automated telephone service? He proceeded to tell us he doesn’t make much money on Groupon and wants proper paying customers filling up the tables. It put a sour note instantly on our evening. He served us the wrong drinks and the food was mediocre, warm and menu needed an update. Toilets were absolutely grimy and needs a good deep clean. Such a shame the restaurant is a lovely hidden gem, it is just the owner who spoils it. Won’t be returning. Please go to Oggi’s or Bobolis much better service and food!

We came to eat on Saturday night - first ever experience with a Groupon voucher ! Phoned before we booked as I needed accessibility and was asked not to book through Groupon as they received only a meager amount back but if I paid him direct he would honor the Groupon price. The food was really quite good and I’d return for that , however the service was shocking. We were made to feel as though we an inconvenience , waited over an hour between meals and the older gentleman (who I think was the owner?) was most definitely really rude and arrogant. The younger male member of staff however, was lovely and most apologetic. First time dining there and the last. I would suggest that if they are not fans of the Groupon situation they should withdraw from it.

Don’t get me wrong, the man serving was pleasant enough but this Resturant needs a complete overhaul. It has so much potential... starting with not putting Aldi salt and pepper plastic grinders on the table and trying to pass off cheap cola for coke.

We visited for the first time with the groupon voucher, we booked a table for the evening. The restaurant inside needs abit of updating. For starters me and my friend went for the bruschetta and the mushroom starter, the bruschetta was cheesy and tasted nice. The mushroom starter had cheese on top but was not melted, the bread the mushrooms were on was abit over cooked and burnt which made it hard to chew. For mains we had the penne arabiatta and the aubergine and potato main. The penne was full of flavour, very cheesy and it had a kick to it with the chillies inside. The aubergine main was different too i liked how it had potatoes inside but mains came out warm which was nice. We were served by Ben all evening he was very friendly and helpful. Overall service was quick and for the price you pay on groupon the food wasn’t too bad either i was expecting worse from reading all the other reviews. Would visit again.

Went here last night the place is a dive. When first got here i went to the toilet where the toilets are full of mould and dirt not very pleasant. Second fault asked for a peroni which came out with all dirt swimming around the bottom of glass so sent it back and same happend to my second peroni so i had to leave it as i wasnt sending beer back all night which was also strajght out of a bottle. The napkins on table was all dirty like the last peopke who eat before us used them. The food was warm in bits cold in other parts which was 100 percent microwave food. The only plus side the staff was great.

The in-laws bought us a groupon voucher for Christmas to use at Cheikhos. We decided to go on a Saturday and I rang on Wednesday to book. When I mentioned that I had a groupon voucher, I was rudely told that they dont take groupon customers on saturdays as thats their most busiest night however on this occasion he would as I rang early in the week. I thought, fair enough.

Upon arriving at the Restaurant the waiter asked "how did you find out about this place?" So I mentioned Groupon. As soon as he heard this his tone completely changed. He became rude and abrupt, began pushing extras where the prices were unlisted in the menu and extortionate! He charged extra for the food paid using the voucher so it works out the same price as paying in full. He told us using the voucher means they were practically giving away the food for free. The quality of the food was so bad I wouldnt feed the homeless with it. If they do not like people using the vouchers there's a simple solution... stop advertising on it!

My sister and brother in law went here as a Christmas groupon present from my partner and myself last sat 2nd of March.

We were shocked, I only thought this experience only happened on TV. After receiving a Xmas voucher we rang to book on telephone ( as it said on the voucher) and immediately got a load of moaning about him only getting 10%- and that 'groupons' take up tables that they could be having full paying customers at - which I wasn't in the slightest bit interested in as I was looking forward to going out for a lovely meal as a treat.. If the person that gave us this voucher had not spent money on this, I would have not bothered even booking after that experience. To speak to a customer like that on the phone is not acceptable. Anyway - we went for the meal tonight- and got a barrage of the same moaning about groupon vouchers, and him losing money etc. None of that concerns me as a customer. While we were in there 3 other 'groupon' people came in and I heard them getting the same moans. However a couple who haven't been for a couple of years got greeted, welcomed, smiles, - obviously the full payers are OK but not us 'group ons' . We just wanted to get out of there - felt awkward & embarrassed the entire time. We could not wait to get out. I did speak to the 'man' who was serving and explained how his attitude had made us feel - to which I was told to 'Get out and don't come back.' An awful experience - I would advise you do not go here and certainly never buy anyone a group on voucher - you will be buying them a really awful time. An hour of our lives we will not be repeating. People who run businesses like that don't deserve customers.

Food very nice but everywhere could do with a good clean. Toilets terrible. Menus need cleaning felt grubby to touch. Shame as food is lovely.

Mussels to start where amazing, everything else, what a let down! Disgusted.

We were dropping our Daughter at University so we went for a farewell meal , we stumbled on this place by accident and I'm glad we did.

We dined here a few weeks ago on a Friday evening. The atmosphere is cosy, the service friendly, and the food was delicious and freshly cooked.
