Food is really delicious and the restaurant is clean. It is very basic and well priced. The students love it and if you are not looking for a comfy, candlelight supper but delicious food, then this is the place. We generally eat in but have also ordered takeaway. Both are equally good. Wear a thick coat as the place can be chilly.

We were on a site in Winchester not knowing the area we ordered from here on uber eats not realising it was a 26 minute drive. Poor driver didn’t look too impressed (can’t blame him, we wouldn’t have ordered from there if we had known the distance). Food was delivered in a carrier bag with no insulation, needless to say very cold

Went to this dump on a Friday night for a takeaway we were at the counter for ten minutes while they were cooking only for the little woman to tell us they were closed. But thank god for that as others since told us the food was rubbish.

Cheap and filling Chinese food. The meal sets are incredible value. The taste is good, but not amazing. Good for people on a budget. Black tea is available free of charge

(Suggestion: Separate the soup and the meat) Taste 3.5/5 - Mild, as I requested them not to add any salt Texture 3.5/5 - Soft pork and Melon, could have added something crispy to enhance the texture Size of the dish - Super Small (Only approximately 6-7 pieces of pork), definitely not sufficient for 1 male. Service 3/5 - Didn't provide water, allowed me to consume additional rice though. But then looked at me as if I owned them money. Environment 3/5 - Not warm, bit dark Temperature - The soup was hot, but the rice, not nearly as hot as the soup. This is one of my staple Chinese food restaurants as it is cheap and delicious. Rice and Chinese tea is included in the price. A place to get cheap good quality chinese food (southern chinese/ Hong Kong styled food). Each dish is priced around £7.50-£8 and if you go with a group of friends, you can each order a dish and share the dishes together. Each dish would come with a bowl of rice. There is a free flow of Chinese tea at the restaurant. This restaurant is suitable for university students who are looking for a quick and filling meal at a very affordable price. I am writing this review to share my profoundly distressing experience at Chef China (食记) restaurant, with the hope that it serves as a wake-up call to the management and staff. What I encountered is not merely a poor dining experience; it was a harsh manifestation of blatant discrimination that left me deeply hurt and offended. During my recent visit with friends, we ordered a variety of dishes, which, I must admit, were quite enjoyable. The situation, however, took an unpleasant turn when I attempted to order an additional serving of rice. The restaurant owner's response to my simple request was not just unprofessional, but downright disrespectful. The owner retorted loudly in Mandarin, "I can't give you any more rice, there's none left." While initially, I assumed there might be a shortage, I chose to accept the situation with understanding. However, my understanding quickly turned to disbelief and anger when shortly after, my friend unknowingly asked for a bowl of rice and was promptly served without hesitation. It was at this moment that I realised the unpleasant truth - that the denial of my request was not due to a lack of rice, but rather a deeply rooted prejudice against me. It pained me to acknowledge that I had been singled out and discriminated against due to my appearance and perceived eating habits. To say I am disappointed would be an understatement. I am hurt, angry, and appalled at the blatant prejudice I experienced at Chef China (食记). This is a flagrant violation of basic human respect and decency, and it is utterly unacceptable. Every customer deserves to be treated with respect, regardless of their size, appearance, or any other personal characteristic. The service industry should embody values of inclusivity and equality, providing the same level of service to all customers without bias. I intend to report this incident to the appropriate authorities, and I strongly condemn the discriminatory practices at Chef China (食记). I implore the management to take swift action to address this matter and ensure such a deeply distressing incident doesn't happen to anyone else. Lastly, to those reading this review, I urge you to stand against discrimination and promote inclusivity by considering the ethics of the establishments you patronise. Thank you.

Really affordable! The Chinese style duck is the best one I have ever had.

Counter service spoke very little English. Cash only. Didn't ask if we wanted drinks and there was no obvious self-service water. I asked for white rice and got fried rice instead. My chicken chow main was a bit salty and my daughter's stir fried tofu and vegetables didn't taste very good. Seating is very crowded.

Don't eat here if you don't speak Chinese, you won't get served

Incredibly rude. Would give no stars if possible. A toddler would have better manners than the staff here. Was expecting a side of satay chicken not casual racism.

I came in with my fiance looking for some good quality Chinese food and all we got from the staff was attitude, DO NOT visit this place.

Food is good and reasonable price with no messing about. Dont bother with calling ahead with a phone order unless you want to face her wrath. Best to order and collect in person.

Visited there several times. Clean environment, cash only and hot tea served. ‘Dry Spicy Hot Pot’ is highly recommended if you can have spicy food. It tasted soooo good, many kinds of vegetables and well-cooked pork. Some of my friends like their curry meals, but I prefer Thai or Japanese recipes. Rice included in the price.

Staff is so rude with delivery driver

Beef in all dishes was fatty and chewy and we could not eat it. The sauces in all dishes was watery, tasteless and not very much of it. The chips were very overcooked and inedible. The prawn crackers were stale. Wasted our money as we couldn't eat much.

Truely mouth watering recipes and very local chinese food served in a friendly and open environment. Highly recommended for adventerous food hunters. Very good for sharing food in groups. More options avilable for dining in.

The place is clean and tidy and the food is amazing. We love their Kung Po King Prawns- the best I had and I have tried a lot in many, many different Chinese restaurants in the area.

By far the best Chinese food I have eaten. I won't go anywhere else. The food is always cooked spot on. Very tasty and always leave you full. Any time I have left a note, they actually read it unlike some other places. You will not regret getting food from here. Everyone who works there are so friendly and welcoming which makes you want to go back alone. The amazing food is just the icing on the cake. I will 100% be getting food from here again and again. I've never had any problems. Everyone should definitely have food from here. I highly recommend.

Good Chinese food and an affordable price. They have a large selection to choose from and you are spoilt for choice here. I would reccomend the 回锅肉， 酸甜鸡 and 粟米鱼片

I ordered the house special chowmein and it was worth the money I would recommend others also to try it out and the staff was also very nice and service was also fast. Taste was delicious and quantity was more than adequate. £6 worth of quantity,taste and quality.

Order though Uber eats quite a bit, lovely fresh hot food straight to my door. A variety of food on the menu, thanks for a good experience.

The real deal? Authentic Chinese takeaway with generous portions. The ribs were delicious, and the satay is spicy and very good. Don’t be put off by the shop front - the food is fab.

Tasty and good value. Many Chinese students eat here. Extensive english style chinese menu, and real chinese food. Canteen style decor, large portions. Service is exceptionally quick.

A no-miss, legendary piece of the Burgess Road food scene, known to any student who has come across the Highfield Campus. A place of extremes: Insanely rude staff, crowded, not sparkling-clean but astonishingly quick serving times (by the way, no table service). For 5£, one could even call it a bargain. An experience more than a takeaway place.

Don't expect brilliant service here. Menu is like a minefield - be careful of where you tread. But otherwise there is food that is not too bad.

The man behind the counter provided the worst service ever. He did not smile or look at me when taking my order. He didn't even respond after I said 'Thank you' when I took my dish. By the way, the food was too salty to me. I was wondering why people ever come back here again. I definitely will not be one of them.

Worst service ever! The woman behind the counter doesn't even bother to look at you when ordering. Plus, once I found a dead fly in my rice, asking to swap, she didn't seem to be very happy about it, never mind bothering to apologise!!! Absolutely shocking!
