Charnallies Restaurant in Tendring

My sister booked for her birthday as she had never been. We were a table of 13 an the table had been set with a happy birthday banner which was a nice touch. Took a while for us all to arrive however equally it took as long to have our drinks order taken. Cocktails although well priced they were lacking the taste of a nice cocktail. The server had spilt the table up into five different tables which meant the ordering cod be paid for individually which along with the banners is why I gave it a 3 star. The food however was lacking in care and attention. My surf and turf priced at 27.50 was a let down for the price. My very small prawns were undercooked when it arrived so sent both sets back to be rectified. My steak was cooked OK but the fat on the sirloin had not been rendered down, and along with the minimal amount of chips was very sad on such a large oval plate. The two very dismal looking deep fried button mushrooms were just greasy and the half grilled tomato was still hard and not cooked out, the instant pepper corn sauce was very over powerdery and was the last and only thing I could taste for many hours after. My partners chicken burger looked equally sad on portion size of chips etc. All in all for the price and the oddly lack laster atmosphere I would not return in a hurry. I do believe the breakfast is good, so I may review that in the distant future. The server was great, however in general the speed of drinks dispensed was very slow.

Delicious all you can eat buffet. 23 of us and Sophie, our waitress was amazing. We always have a delicious meal here. Highly recommend for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Another great experience! We were a large party of 14. We were served attentively but never rushed by Sophie. She was so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. 2 of the children in the party have serious allergies; these were taken extremely seriously by Sophie and the staff in the kitchen. I was extremely impressed that the Chef highlighted an ingredient in one of their selected meals was subject to a potential cross contamination alert, so the dressing was left off. As a large party, adults outnumbered by the children we did our best to keep on top of the chaos that comes with corralling them for food and drink decisions but this was met with patience and humour. Happy to continue to recommend this welcoming and allergy friendly establishment

Absolutely brilliant service! Helen was a star from start to finish. Loved having her serve us. She was great with the two young kids and the four adults really enjoyed her positive attitude

The food, atmosphere and staff were amazing. Staff were attentive and made changes to individual dishes to suit us. Our 8 year old loved the food and the whole experience. The prices were very reasonable and presentation and attention to detail were fantastic. Cannot fault anything about our evening out. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and will visit again.

Had a great night at Charnallies for Elvis night on 5th July. Highly entertaining, good fun and nice relaxed atmosphere. Fantastic service from our waitress Sophie I too. We were on a big table with lots of us ordering different things all evening and she did such a great job, was friendly, calm and attentive, really great service, thank you Sophie. Highly recommend!

Lovely food which is cooked fresh good coffee and our daughter loves the milkshakes our waitress Naomi was fab really attentive looking forward to going next Sunday

I was looking forward to a nice meal and to treat my friends. However the nachos were not worth the money, the pulled pork was just clumped and not distributed evenly. The nachos were soft including the ones not covered in sauce. The hotdog was just tasteless throughout. The salad was good though and the water was perfect. Very disappointed. The service is the only thing that has made me put three stars

The sharer platter, which is almost £18, includes the tiniest bowl of nachos, 4 onion rings, 4 mozzarella sticks and 4 breaded mushrooms. We specifically asked if the platter was enough for two and was told it could feed 5 people. It definitely wasn’t enough, barely a snack, and the food ruined both of our stomachs. It’s clear the food is pre prepared frozen food that is reheated, as it came out to us incredibly quickly. A few hours after eating we had horrendous stomach pain. First time visiting Clacton on Sea, we had previously tried somewhere new the night before which was great and we went looking for something else new the following day. We had spotted Charnallies opposite from our hotel (The Royal Hotel) and decided to give it ago. As we hadn't booked, we were obviously expecting either a decline or a wait but neither occurred so was offered a table pretty much straight away.It may have been my eyesight but the restaurant seemed quite dark/dimly lit where we were sitting but it didn't cause any problems for us but may for those who do struggle in low light, reading the menu. The restaurant was quite busy but staff seemed to manage well, they were polite and approachable and the two waitresses we spoke too, were chatty and friendly, which was nice and comfortable.The food was reasonably priced and was very nice. I had the "Burger with the works", I think its called and it was really filling and worth the price. Drinks were as you'd expect, wet and did the job in regards to qwenching thirst. Would more than likely return, if we ever visit Clacton again.

Heißt Italienische Küche, aber die wissen nicht wie in Italien gekocht wird! Das Essen war alles ohne Geschmack! Es wurde komplett ohne Gewürz gearbeitet. Das Fleisch hatte nur brandig geschmeckt weil es schwarz war - sonst war auch dies ohne Geschmack. Wir kamen ohne Reservierung und es hieß wir sollten nach 1h bereits wieder gehen da der Tisch dann vergeben ist. Es kam niemand, das Restaurant war nichteinmal halb voll und die Bedienung unfreundlich. Nur zu empfehlen wenn man keine Gewürze verträgt und sonst auch keine Ansprüche hat.

Went here with my partner for an evening meal. Food was good, portions were a good size. The waiter we had was excellent, had a nice conversation with us after our meal when we were paying the bill. All in all, for the price we paid, we can't complain! Will be back

Charnallies is one of my favourite restaurants in Clacton located near the arcades its a very great place to eat, The staff are always helpful and friendly to all guest I've been here with friends and with adults I looks after. I can't fault any thing with the restaurant. They do the best cocktails to along with all the delicious food

Just a quick one.Went Mother's Day afternoon with partner and toddler.No booking was needed and we were seated immediately. I had the calzone and the Mrs had pasta. Both came out very hot which I like as it stays warm longer.The waiter was a young local chap who was ever so nice and polite. Struggled to find a decent place to eat in on our weekend away. Luckily we found this place. Although we'll never visit clacton again, if you do visit, this is the place to go for genuine tasty food!
