Charlotte Cafe @ Malswick House in Forest of Dean

Avoid the car park. The pub uses a civil enforcing company. We turned up for lunch, not knowing that during that week they changed their opening times. Wasn't advertised online, just a piece of paper on the door. So we left after a short while. Only to find we received a £60 parking fine.

Was here a few weeks ago working outside this public house on road maintenance at Night.....the public house was closed Due to work be carried outside I parked on the car park , to then be received a car park penalty notice £100 reduced to £60 it paid within 14days....I rang the Malswick House to explain the situation the land lord was NO help at all with he could have resolved my penalty notice? Which I have on many acasions taken a penalty letter to the lanlord and thay have dealt with the situation?

We didn't eat here, just stopped for a drink and a break. It's a nice place to go with very good service, plenty of parking room.

Appalling attitude. Stopped in the car park for 14 minutes while the pub was shut to speak to my elderly mum who had fallen. Pub fined me £140 even though they knew the circumstances.

Absolutely terrible! Felt unwell whilst driving and decided to pull in at the next safest place so my wife could take over driving. Who’d have thought stopping briefly in a pub car park with no warning signs would cause a £100 fine. Extra cheekiness to give you 14 days from the issue date to pay a lesser charge but make sure it takes a week and a half to actually be delivered. Must be a right little earner as there’s no other option to stop on that main road!

Charged for parking (£60!) for a pub is ridiculous. As well as not being warned or shown where to put in parking details shows the poor service. If going ensure to register your vehicle as signs are not clear 👎

Stopped by chance on our way home. Spoilt for choice, Greek based menu a nice change from standard pub grub. Good portion sizes.

Spent £8.50 on truffle beef fries for it to turn up and be a chopped up burger with hardly any cheese sauce either and the tiniest of bbq sauce. The description says - Chips, minced beef, cheese sauce, BBQ sauce, truffle mayo. Definitely wasn't what arrived. Definitely not worth £8.50

10th July 2024 - Two cars - arranged to meet for a coffee after an hours' drive. We met & immediately realised the place was closed. We left without delay. One car has been issued with a parking fine for £60, apparently for being in the car park for 10 minutes! Must be a nice little earner for the owner of the pub. We are not the first to experience this ( see reviews ) which has been reported to the DVLA, BPA & Commission. Stay away from this place.

Broke down and pulled into the car park at 8:15 am. Its on a fast main road with no stopping locations. Got car running and left 16 mins later. Owners of the pub hit me with a £140 parking fine. The company they use are a scam outfit and will not let you appeal on the website. Pub and parking company have been reported to DVLA, BPA and Commission. The guy at the pub offered to speak with them on my behalf and changed his mind when I text him a week later!?! You can put your details in a machine inside the pub apparently. But the pub has to be open! If you stop for a second, you can face an initial bill of £100. Avoid at all cost. It’s not worth the risk.

Chicken breast fillet was cut up so small it was very dry and not much of it. Chips were soggy

We stopped here on our way to our destination and by chance it was a nice place for food. The pub itself felt a little weird, you'd have to see it to understand and I'm not saying it in a bad way, just a weird layout for a pub. But, the lady behind the bar was very friendly. She recommended The Argos? I think it was called for lunch and it was delicious, I finished every bite but couldn't move after! No regrets. There's a massive beer garden and a car park right outside. TV, pool table, kid-friendly. Would happily stop here again if we're ever passing by.

Second time we’ve had a takeaway from here. Great food. Great service. Gyros and Argos from the Greek menu. Highly recommend.

Was really surprised to find an amazing place like this in middle of nowhere!! Best Gyros pita I’ve eaten for long time !!! Beautiful Ambiente !!

It was cold inside.long wait for food and it was very quiet customer wise.

It’s been ages since we ordered. Food delicious but would be great if it’s easier to order more. Than one topping but they got it spot on for me. Only slight downer was food was cool, we collected and set off for the just eat time at 7.15 but it was ready just after 7 . Almost everything was as still hot, chips cool

Our 30th Wedding Anniversary we treated ourselves to a meal out, so to The Malswick, where we'd booked previously. We'd wanted a quiet, peaceful place, with good food and service, We hit the jackpot, other than a couple or three youngsters playing pool in the other bar and the owner/manager We were alone, it was warm inside as outside it was cold wet foggy and dark. Neither my wife and I drink though she did have a couple of half lagers, having worked behind bars myself and in my youth destroyed quite a few brain cells I've not drunk for 20+ years, I digress, The food.......Kaz had a pasta dish, I had this enormous "Argos plate" which was piles of mixed meat, pittas, chips and salad, the taste flavours that reminded me of a long ago holiday in Turkey, it was great, Kaz also enjoyed hers and reviewed separately. After the meal I had lemon cake, highly recommend, I didn't eat The Argos Plate entirely I couldn't it was too much, we brought home remains in a "doggybag" I'd asked the waiteess to take a few pics on my phone of my wife and I which she was happy to do so, please forgive me not naming her, I am useless with names and a tad forgetful. In all at The Malswick, good food, good service and quiet on a cold damp late November night.

Great meal, friendly team, great service it was very quiet that night, so if your looking for somewhere to go for a meal go there.

Spot on delivery time, food was hot and large portions - Highly recommended.

I can understand why they wouldn't let random members of the public in, however I went in clearly a delivery driver in uniform with a name badge and politely asked to use the loo and they said no, this was the first pub in 7 years not to let me do that. I just hope as a business they don't rely on people like me for their deliveries.

Interesting and tasty food offering with good choice of drinks. Excellent coffee, too.

There was no salad on the burger like ordered, the burger bun was stale, the pita was stale and rock hard even after being smothered in sauce for a while and the kebab taste was eliminated by the huge amount of tzatziki. Will not be ordering again

Incredible burgers!! The only reason my review is lower than you might expect after that statement is - first that i’m afraid the chips either don’t travel well or aren’t the best (which is a bit of a must have) coupled with a Halloumi starter that we had high hopes for but was rather expensive and not so wonderful, again perhaps better in-house than as a take-out. I’ll definitely be back for the Burgers though.

Had a private party here and the owners did a really good job. I also had dinner here a few times and the burgers were huge and really tasty. Will definitely come back!

Popped in for a break whilst travelling from North Wales to Sussex. It was about 5pm on a Saturday and came across Charlotte cafe and Malswick House. We ordered a couple of drinks, sausage & mash and coffee after. What a lovely meal with thick onion gravy and it arrived hot and fairly quick. The staff (owners?) were friendly, good selection of beers, wines and coffee. The place was clean with nice décor, plenty of parking and nice garden area. Shame the location is not closer as we would revisit and probably many times. Recommended.

We had dinner, everything was delicious. We ordered chicken wings, bbq pork ribs and the biscoff Cake. The workers were very friendly. Would recommend it 100%

Held our funeral wake at Malswick House and I couldn't give a higher recommendation. They couldn't have done more and the buffet was absolutely delicious, home made with a fantastic selection.

Chips were stone cold despite coming from just up the road less than 5 minutes drive. Chips were dry and bland though the filled onion rings were fairly nice. Portion were generous and the lemon cake was lovely

(written retrospectively, 1 week ago visited with my sister and her family) very warm welcome, good selection of beers, some are locally sourced. had a meal which was great. we were only folks in, such y shame for a local pub .... if in the area, don't just drive by, take a break .. park up and enjoy this country pub.

The food is delicious. Here you have the opportunity to create the perfect burger, according to your preferences! A lightly crispy top bun, but soft inside. It is very tasty! If you don't eat meat, (like my husband) you will be pleasantly surprised with a veggie burger. Fries are something special! Somewhat reminiscent, as in the Beefy Boy, with cheese sauce and bacon. Biggest burgers and its definitely very cheap for this kind of superb quality food. Very helpful and friendly service. High recommended!

Spot on food, cooked quick and cheerful staff. Even grabbed a reasonably priced potted plant from next door while he was grilling. Lucky the pub was closed else we could have ended up there all afternoon.

It was ok but not your normal standard .

Second time ordering and was once again really nice. Came really quickly but could tell was still all freshly cooked.

Great food, really fresh and hot. Enjoyed it that much that we’re having another this week! Missing a trick by not adding a few simple desserts though as it’s an easy way to boost revenue without much extra prep or maintenance. Just a tip.

I wasn’t keen on the “extras” in the extreme chicken burger. Not much salad either. Chips were good, may try a breakfast bap one day but won’t order the chicken again.

Hosted mums 80th birthday in the conservatory here May 2018. Lovely helpful staff, very attentive & because we prebooked all meals pretty much came out together for 22 of us! Mum wants to do it again!

Lovely place and very nice food. Has a pleasant and welcoming feel with wonderful staff and service. Will be returning no doubt. Was a little cold when visiting in winter was the only dissapointment.

Food was ok. Quietly listening to the hum of the microwave in a virtually empty pub on a sunny Sunday. They don't do Sunday lunch as the chef can't cope apparently, yet a mile down the road a place was heaving with satisfied customers. Solution, change chef! Service was good, if you ignore one cracked and one dirty glass. This is meant to bring in funds for the canal renovation. Distinctly a lost opportunity.
