Charlie’s in City of London, Westminster

My husband found this restaurant by chance and booked a table. The service was perfect and our courses were delicious. The tables are well spaced and the dining area is broken up in to 3 spaces so feels quite private. We had lamb which was perfectly cooked, but we saw others have the Dover Sole which I think we’ll have to go back for. Thank you to Luigi and his colleagues who helped make this a really special evening for us.

This is one of our favourite restaurants in London. The food and service is impeccable and understated class. The beautiful design of the restaurant is exquisite. We booked for the Jazz Sunday on our anniversary and the staff made it an extra special experience. The music was amazing and we couldn’t ask for more. Thank you.

We only discovered Charlie’s four years ago, and have been back numerous times, with friends and families. This last visit in late August was exemplary, as always. Delicious food and impeccable service are the norm here. The interior design/ surrounds cosset you from hectic London streets making it difficult to leave. We are also huge fans of Browns Hotel. Hotels and restaurants don’t get better than this. World class!!!

I had a very special birthday meal here with my boyfriend. We were warmly greeted by Neil at the main door and were welcomed into the restaurant by Paul who showed us to the perfect table. This restaurant has a wonderful ambience and is a pleasure to dine in. Matteo ensured that we selected the best drinks with our meal and Luigi gave us fantastic advice about what to order. They have an impressive level of knowledge of the menus and drinks (including high quality non alcoholic options as well). Each course arrived at the table like a work of art and tasted so delicious-the Chefs here are truly amazing. We both loved the Italian datterini pasta the best. Millie, Ajith, Mauro and Rebecca were so friendly and helpful as well. They even had a birthday cake with a candle for me. This was not just a meal but an unforgettable experience-highly recommended for a special occasion!

My wife & I visited Charlie’s for a last minute celebration dinner of her birthday that day & were delighted with the experience. Having not been to Browns Hotel for many years, we were very impressed with the current decor & surroundings which were smart & relaxing. The staff were excellent, especially the lovely Ludmilla who looked after us beautifully & made it such a special night. My smoked eel with rhubarb starter was historic as was my wife’s pumpkin soup. Special mention of my Venison main course which was superb & probably the best I’ve ever eaten. Ludmilla suggested the profiterole dessert which was a work of art & absolutely yummy. She even presented my wife with a tiny birthday cake complete with candle, which was so lovely & completely unexpected. After demolishing the fabulous homemade chocolate slices, she even bought us a beautiful box full of more chocolate to eat at home! Overall, such a special evening & we are certain to return to hopefully experience more of the same!

It was a truly memorable night at Charlie’s - we enjoyed the atmosphere and the food equally! I want to thank the whole staff for their warm welcome and service!

Restaurangen erbjuder en mycket bra miljö, luftigt, fräscht, lagom trångt mellan borden. Personalen är fantastisk och Matteo, Luigi, Luca var mycket närvarande, bjöd på sig själva, engagerade i maten och drycken. Vi åt piggvar (Halibut) och den var god, var inte nöjda med vår sjötunga (Sole) och vi erbjöds snabbt ersättningsmat. Vinerna är på hög nivå. Eftersom prisbilden på en restaurang ska vägas in mot nivån på maten kan jag inte ge ett högre betyg eftersom jag förväntade mig högre nivå. Den fantastiska personalen är det som får mig att ge en fyra.

Both situated in the 5* Browns Hotel in Albemarle Street in Mayfair, started off with great cocktails in 'Donovans' bar and then went into the lovely restaurant for lunch. Customer service in both the bar and restaurant were top notch with our waiter, Marco, really making the day special. The food was delicious and presented beautifully and together with some excellent wine and dessert wine (my thanks to the very professional sommelier) my wife and I had a really memorable lunch. Having stayed at most of the grand dame 5* Hotels in London over the years, for some reason we have never tried Browns? However having now visited the hotel and experienced the very high standards in customer service/care we will definitely be booking a weekend break there in the near future. This lovely hotel appeared to envelope you in comfort and kindness.....a real find!

I had a wonderful dinner at Charlie’s! My boyfriend and I were made to feel so welcome by Gianluca and Marina. It is such an elegant restaurant with beautiful decor and they host a live jazz band on a Sunday-a perfect, romantic dinner setting. Giacomo shared his specialist knowledge of wines to go with the food and the chefs are so talented here-our dinner was delicious. I loved the delica squash soup. Mauro took great care of us and recommended the coconut macaroon, passion fruit cream and mango sorbet to me, which was truly a fantastic dessert recommendation. Also Danilo, Keerthana and Millie were so kind and made sure we had everything we needed. Manuel served us tea after our dinner which was the perfect finishing touch. The staff team here are so friendly and they go out of their way to make sure you have the best time, which we really appreciated. Highly recommended :)

A really lovely venue, great staff and amazing food but …… from 3-5pm the iron was a constant presence in the dining room. Given we had a 2pm reservation it was a real distraction, not only the noise from adjacent tables but watching the iron cord being dragged around the room was slightly surreal. A 5* establishment can surely do better than this, it lets the side down. Why not replace the tablecloths rather than iron existing ones?

We had an absolutely lovely dinner! The food was phenomenal, we especially loved the delica squash soup, tuna ceviche, Strozzapreti pasta (one of the best pastas I’ve ever had) and the Dover sole. Each dish was made to perfection - compliments to Chef James. The service was also top notch - Marco took an excellent care of us. We only had 72 hours in London, and i must say that dinner at Charlie’s is a must,

This was quite the best dining experience that we had while grazing our way through a four-day stay in town. We came across Charlie's quite by chance as we wandered through Mayfair, and at the peak of the lunchtime service were fortunate to be given a lovely table . The chicken Caesar was quite superb (extra dressing brought promptly and cheerily), ditto the endive salad which was the perfect partner to the wonderful tempura mushrooms. The warm ciabatta rolls were out of this world, with additional supplies offered very readily. I wish I had asked the name of our delightful female server (dark hair, tied back) so that I could commend her personally; she was the icing on the cake of a superb experience, thank you!

Impeccable attentive service, lovely traditional dinning room and excellent food but pretty expensive.

Het eten was lekker, de setting klassiek maar mooi en zonder ouderwets te zijn. De portier van het hotel, waar het restaurant in gelegen is, was oprecht vriendelijk. De obers speelden precies toneeltje. Zo fake als iets. Ze proberen veel sides te verkopen, wat de prijs van de gerechten snel doet oplopen. 1 side was ruim voldoende voor 2 maar daar repte hij met geen woord over. De sommelier lachte ons dan bijna vierkant uit omdat we geen wijn van 250£ namen maar een fles van 100£ die dan in realiteit nauwelijks 15£ waard was. En water gieten ze in kuipen uit, als ze voelen dat ze niets meer verkocht krijgen, toch nog een extra fles water proberen doorduwen. Nee, geen leuk gevoel, geen aanrader.

I've been coming to Charlie's for lunch for many years. Today, they were off their game: pedestrian, flavorless chicken Milano and cold creamed Spinach. The wines and the staff are always superb. The squash soup and the bread were superb. I will hope for far better culinary oversight in the future. I notice that the Facebook site for Brown's is also poorly maintained: it is replete with scammer posts that have not been deleted. Is Brown's going down the tubes? I hope not.

Following a glowing review from William Sitwell in the Telegraph, my wife and I have now dined twice at Charlies. Today we both enjoyed a wonderful Sunday lunch. From the moment you enter Browns hotel and Charlies restaurant, the service is welcoming and professional and Gianluca and his team are attentive without being fussy. We both had the roast beef, which was skilfully carved at the table. It had been a few months since our first visit, but the waiter remembered my wife liked her beef 'well done'. We were very impressed. The restaurant as you would expect is decorated well, and holds both charm and style. We enjoyed starters and desserts, all washed down with a recommended Chianti, which we also enjoyed. I hope to bring fellow work colleagues back with me in December as I highly recommend Charlies Restaurant.

Faultless, friendly service from all concerned. Beautifully decorated restaurant, arguably the best in London. The food was sublime. Very difficult to choose stand out dishes but for me, the steak tartare was the best I have ever had. My wife Dover Sole was superb and the waiter displayed incredible skill in filleting the fish and recreating the whole fish - pure theatre.

We booked for the Sunday night Jazz evening and we were delighted we did so. The service was exceptional. Welcoming, warm and well informed. The jazz itself was spectacular- the perfect ambiance for an opulent Sunday evening. The food itself was sensational- the best example of the options it served. My husband raved about the triple cooked chips that were served with the delicious ham from the trolley. The salmon from the trolley was so delicious and beautifully presented. The Caesar salad was the best I’ve had. The whole evening was amazing. Wine list extensive and very happy with our choices. We will definitely be back and will very likely book a room at the hotel next time too.

My boss was unwell and I wanted to bring her a treat, maybe it would make her feel a little better, I asked Paul, the senior Maitre D what he recommended 🤔 He swiftly disappeared and a few moments later, having been to the kitchen to see what could be sourced, handed me a fabulous box containing what can only be described as little chocolate balls from heaven with edible flowers and chocolate decorations to kill for, thank you so much to the kitchen and my biggest thank you to Paul, what a service ! You are my favorite man to date.

Started in the nice, cosy bar beside the restaurant. Though the menus might have been presented in cleaner, crisper form, but the available choices were alright. Until the main courses arrived, all had been good. But serving cold vegetables and then taking far too long...

Sunday lunch to celebrate our sons graduation. Wow... all i can say... so starting with the warm welcome, we were early... but they accommodated us. Coats were taken, shown to a lovely table in great surroundings. Menu was superb, great Sunday roast option as well...
