Charlie Bassett's Pub in Stoke-on-Trent

I visited the pub today for a meal with and I can honestly say it was absolutely lovely !! The food was amazing and enjoyed a wonderful home cooked traditional Sunday roast. The staff were helpful and polite and very welcoming. The pub its self is a proper English country pub with a lovely atmosphere. Thank you

Booked in advance and accomodated a group of 14 for my wife's 60th birthday, have to say this place exceeded our expectations, service was friendly and swift, the food was amazing every single person thoroughly enjoyed their meals, the colliers Sunday lunch (all 3 meats) was stunning and the selection of pies of the day was outstanding (both in size of portion and quality) so much so that I can't wait to go back on a Tuesday for "pie night" thanks for a wonderful day

We visited on Saturday evening with my friend and her two little girls. The weather was nice so we opted to eat outside and order some food. It took a good 45 minutes - 1 hour for the food to come, when we checked how long it was “just cooking” and when it eventually came it wasn’t worth the money we paid at all. It came in dribs and drabs so we couldn’t eat together. Half of the chips were cold, the other half covered in way too much salt, especially for children. The burgers were missing the cheese that was paid additional for, then when it arrived with cheese it had a hair in! We took it back and the women serving the food couldn’t care less. They then tried to say we hadn’t paid for chicken strips even though we had, another 10 minute wait … then 4 small chicken strips arrived for £9!!! I could have had a whole meal from KFC for that price. We had the burger refunded in cash, we tried to explain how poor it was to one of the staff but no one seemed interested. We needed to get the kids into bed so a spontaneous evening turned into a food nightmare. I won’t be returning or recommending based on that poor, expensive menu and even worse service.

This is a great spot in the countryside to go for a meal. Sit in the garden . Watch some music . Would definitely recommend.

Worst experience ever,had to wait over an hour for food,ordered at 4 45,food started at 5.00 ours was first order,arrived at 5.45 in dribs and drabs steak was disgusting, tandoori chicken tasteless,bread tough as old boots,glad they didn't do a table check as they wouldn't of liked what we,would have to say...all this on a quiet Wednesday teatime, would hate to think what it would be like on a weekend when more than 2 tables waiting,if I could give no stars I would have

Disgusting over a hour wait , Food expensive small portions , wooden cutlery , 3rd time we have been. NEVER AGAIN . Service shocking , Had Sunday a few months ago all our party were ill after it .

We visited the site for a few days over Spring break. It was really lovely! The site is small and quiet, everything well organised. The pitches are good size, we picked the mix of gravel and grass as it was still a bit wet. The stuff is super friendly and helpful with everything. Shower is spacious and toilets always clean. The wifi on the site worked great.The pub on the site is lovely - we fell in love with its style. The food was properly home cooked and the cocktails really nice (recommend Charlie's bramble to everyone!). We loved the cheese board and the pizzas as well. There's play area on the site and also big park 3 minutes walk. The kids loved meeting the friendly bunch of goats - such a cheeky little ones! Quiet surroundings- mostly farms around, shops within a few miles. Great location and campsite. We'll definitely come back in the future.

Had a very disappointing Sunday lunch. In contrast to previous visits. No table service, vastly reduced menu and extremely poor quality. A single pot of side vegetables- a stone cold mash of broccoli mush with cauliflower in a white colour sauce. Other veg on plates. Meats were tender although not as plenteous as on previous occasions. Yorkshire pudding inedible- shame, usually one of the highlights of a proper roast dinner! Won’t return.

Absolutely fab pub and campsite and food and staff and value for money. Can't fault. Highly recommend and will definitely be back

I passed this place several times, so we dropped in for a spot of lunch. First impressions friendly clean and spotless bright and airy . A new menu with a nice variety to choose from and the food was excellent and the prices were reasonable. As said before, friendly staff that goes a long way to make your visit enjoyable. I definitely will be back .

Went for my birthday tapas night.tasty food but portions child size.had 5 for £30 as did family.plus chips which was tiny.felt like we had only had a starter,even 7yr old still hungary,instead of £68 it cost us over 120.food was put on table,not told got get own cutlery salt ect.was only when daughter went to ask that she saw them up a corner.case of once bitten.

Stayed over in our campervan. Excellent facilities. Park for children and field for football, Dining benches, farm animals. Menu is going through a change at the moment and so reduced choice, but don't let that put you off, the food was delightful.

Been here a few times. Everything was lovely no complaints. However today was the first day of no table service. No booking. New menu. A very poor menu! Ordered at the bar. We called in for a pint and some lunch. The staff are very welcoming and pleasant. The food is reasonably priced and very tasty , we enjoyed it so much that we booked an evening meal the following day and again it was tasty and very filling. It boasts a very big beer garden and also hosts a campsite which looks very well kept. We highly recommend this village pub

We have had regular visits to this pub for drinks but tonight we had a bite to eat ..I had a rump steak and asked for just a side salad ..the steak was cooked to perfection and the side salad was absolutely lush ! My husband had the seafood linguini which I would never in a million days eat as always thought rubber food! But wow I tried every bit of fish on his dish and it was lovely !! Again cooked to perfection! Hats off to your chef!! There was a queue for next sittings but never felt rushed or pushed ! Top notch all keep doing what your doing !!

Came here with 4 friends for my birthday 2day( 31st aug ) We have been here a few times and everything is normally perfect ,well 2day it was shocking food was horrid ,service was even worse ,the staff,Didnt even look like they worked there,no uniform in jeans and cardigans playing with her nose ring in public standing and playing on phones never came back check on us food was horrible ,luke warm ,we wont b returning again,shame really as we have always enjoyed our visits

We were staying on the campsite behind the pub and decided to eat at the pub on the sunday. The food was amazing. I ordered a sunday lunch. The food presentation and taste was amazing, even though they were rushed off their feet. Staff cant help you enough and again super busy. Definitely recommend this pub. I just wish we lived near so we could go back regularly.

Usually come here as it's a lovely place but recently the pizza place outside has been playing very loud annoying music when trying to have a nice quiet evening. Usually I wouldn't complain if it were busy as it would be atmospheric. But it was me and my boyfriend / and another couple outside having to listen to the staff screaming/ singing and dancing to the music. When we first got there it was lovely mellow music but then it turned to music like cha cha slide/ gangnam style. Which kept changing from being loud to quiet. I know it's a Friday but Jesus it was like watching a bunch of 25 year olds at a kids party

We visit Charlie's often for a cheeky beer (or 2) when passing the area. Today we decided to try some food. As the food arrived we were blown away by the quality of the food and the amazing presentation of the Collier (sharing) plater. It was not just beautifully presented but also very tasty. What more could anyone ask for, great rural location, super views, animals, fab beer and very tasty food. Definitely something we plan to repeat often!

We booked a nights camping here to break up our trip home from cornwall. Was booked based on description and reviews, quiet rural location , family friendly, staff very nice and a pub where we could have a nice meal and a drink after our long journey. We were prepared to go out of our way on the journey home because the reviews were so good. Boy were we in for a shock. Pub itself is set on a tiny junction, you have to go past the hidden entrance to the carpark before seeing its there. There was no signage indicating where the camping field was. We had to stop on the junction holding up traffic while my partner went inside to find out where to go. We were informed it was through the car park. As we had already overshot the carpark entrance and the beeping cars were not going to let us reverse a couple of metres we had to do a very tight u turn in the junction, smashing the rear of the caravan on the wall as did so. On entering and going through the pub car park there is a small hut to book in for the camping. The camping field is split into two with a gravel hard standing part and a grass bit, both on quite a steep slope. We were informed we were in the grass part, we needed to go through a gate to get there. At this point a car appeared in the gate way and blocked our way in. They could see we had a caravan and could not reverse up a hill and through the car park and back onto the road to let them out, but they still refused to move. The staff at this point just looked at there feet and did nothing to help. Eventually I decided to move into the gravelly pitch area , down the hill and after about 10 mins of trying to turn round on a hill on gravelwe eventually did and went back up to the gate again. We were directed to the most miserable looking muddy pitch at the farthest point in the bottom of the field. Our pitch was about 1 metre from the next field which had a music festival going on, yes an extremely loud festival. Our pitch was nect to the bar with festival goers shouting to be heard above the noise. The music was so loud ir was vibrating the windows on my caravan. While we were setting up we did wonder why they had given us this pitch ad there were plenty over the oveside away from the noise. My som went to the campsite loo an got stuck, no one could hear his cries for help over the loud music. He is now traumatized and refuses to use campits toilets ever again. After setting up our caravan we weng up to the 'family friendly' pub, pushed our way throgh the very loud and drunk crowd of festival goers who were all in there as it was raining to be told they were not doing food but we could get a pizza from the festival. That was the last straw, it ws the opposites of everything we expected. We had a word with the campsite person, who asked us to write it all down for his boss, but nothing, not even offered for us to move pitch away from noise and festival bar. We packed up and drove another 2 hours home on top of the six we had already done to get there. We spent a total of 1 and a half hours there evey minute was a nightmare.

What a great place lovely views.So professionally run by excellent staff even the owner takes time every morning to check everything is OK. Food amazing Sunday lunch one of the best I've had [and I was in the trade for 20 years ] well done all involved see ya soon

We have just got back from Charlie Bassetts caravan and camping site and had such a lovely time. It’s quiet, clean, dog and child friendly and the staff in the pub and on-site go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. The children loved the play area and the farm animals. We ate in the pub Friday evening and the food was hot and tasty would 💯 recommend and will be returning in the summer 😃

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! This morning we are leaving early as it’s so bad.I’m writing this after our second traumatic night at this awful campsite. Looks idyllic enough on first arrival but then awful people on site on both nights - different groups. Wish I’d read the reviews. Like an episode of shameless is putting it mildly. Night one we thought was bad with rowdy campers up late past midnight, then one, then two……night two. Massive group of horrendous campers. Children screaming and running about, swearing, adults and children alike - crude disgusting people. The pub asked them to quiet down which they seemed to for a bit, but as soon as the pub shut, it was much much worse. I made a desperate plea to them to be quiet at about 2:30 as my one year old was screaming. No luck. THEY DID NOT GO TO SLEEP AT ALL! Still awake now (6AM) riding the poor horses in the field behind!! No emergency number to ring. No answer on the pub number, no patrol in the night so absolutely nothing we could do. Toilets are gross. All blocked up. But that’s the least of our problems!!DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!

This is the worse place I've ever camped. Scruffy, filthy and dirty.Rubbish everywhere , even had to clean up just to pitch the tent.Basically a free for all, it's like a scene from shameless or Jeremy Kyle! Music blaring until 4 in the morning, people howling, screaming, arguing and swearing all night then being sick all over the site My 6 year old twins were scared and up all night unable to sleep.The toilets are a health risk and you would be lucky if all you caught was covid and not Ebola or something worse Rubbish overflowing all over the site.On the first night I was going to get something to eat in the pub , lucky for me they wasn't doing food (even tho they were advertised as doing food until 8.30pm) We got drinks instead but I didn't even bother to stop to drink them, when we sat down there was a group on about 8 people who were farting, burping and swearing- there was no way I could stay so got up to leave- at this point some fat kid aged about 6 ran straight to me table and took the drinks we had left! We went for a walk to a pub just down the road which was really nice and they said they gets lots of custom from people from this site because it's so bad.There was dogs running loose all over the site.Couldn't wait for the morning to pack up and leave , it was like hell , even my dog hated it.

Stayed here for my sons birthday and really wish I had drove past and stayed somewhere else. There was a tent of around 15 young people drinking and doing drugs whilst playing very loud music until 4am in the morning. The owners don’t bother checking! There is only one female toilet and one male which isn’t ideal, neither have toilet roll and are dirty. After no sleep woke up early to get out of there however, this was difficult as the two spaniels from the pub kept running over and taking our things. They aren’t watched and just let loose on the camping site running wild. Really wouldn’t recommend to anybody.

Called in here for a quiet drink in the garden and was going to order some food but I had to drink up and leave. It seems the current owners have transformed this establishment into a bikers pub. Whilst I was there the car park quickly filled with motorbikes, all seemingly fitted with modified exhausts, revving and speeding around the lanes. The noise was deafening and a horrendous experience. I won't be returning anytime soon and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Camp site ok. Food was good but bar service lacking. Stood at the bar and ignored twice. Finally managed to pay and leave. First time for a long time only had one drink with a meal. Couldn’t get served any more. Won’t be back.

Last week, we held my Dad's Wake at The Charlie Bassett's Inn. Sam and her Team were absolutely marvellous, nothing was too much trouble! To comply with Covid regulations, we decided to opt for full table service with a 3 course hot lunch which was not only delicious but also plentiful and excellent value for money. Our guests were offered a choice of 4 starters, 4 mains and 4 sweets, all served efficiently by Sam's very pleasant, friendly and polite Team. I would certainly recommend The Charlie Bassett's Inn for family functions.

Our 1st visit since lockdown. Had the Gammon and mixed grill. This food for quality and quantity beats all for miles and miles around. Service was superb and everyone was so friendly and helpful. A real winning formulae. Absolutely will be back. Such enormous meals. Thanks

What a disappointment!! We went here yesterday for our first meal out after lockdown but will not be going back. We sat in the garden and were ignored until I stopped a member of staff to ask how to get a menu and how to order. The menu was a well handled paper one, not Covid safe. When I went to the bar to order there was no friendliness from the staff. I wasn’t given a choice of fish or peas although it was on the menu as options for the fish and chips. The only choices for jacket potatoes or sandwiches were cheese or tuna. It was if it was too much bother to do anything else. When I got the meal my fish tasted strange, undercooked I think. My family had a lot of hairs in their salad, mostly short like pet hairs. It was very off putting. Some of the sachets of sauces were out of date but they didn’t have replacements available. When I complained there was no apology but I did get my money refunded. I didn’t complain about our soft drinks but they were flat. We felt that there was a different attitude to some customers, the locals we thought. We have decided that we will not return

I kept missing the steak night . But managed to order today. Omg it was awesome. Can't fault any of it. Pudding next time. Polite female delivered it hot and delishous. Defo order again Highly recommended.

The staff are grate and the food is even better The best pub we go to. we travel all over the uk stoping at pubs.and this is our favourite. And now there opening a new camp site god this pub only gets better.

Cannot fault the service, delivered on time & the food, which was beautiful home cooked Sunday lunches (3 courses) we're out of this world. Must admit mothering Sunday treat, but judging by cooking, would love to be every Sunday treat. Big thankyou & will definitely be visiting their pub for a meal when we can. Big Thank you for making mothers day.❤
