Lovely food, great staff. Can't do enough for you. Even fave us free cake when we left. Recommended Even provided colouring book and crayons for my grand daughter. Coffee very good and tea made from good quality leaves.

Delicious food. I had the Turkish delight scones and my husband the ginger ones (they also do plain, sultana and choc chip). Yummy cakes too and friendly service

We’ve been here a couple of times and the welcome is always friendly. A cosy, comfy tea room near the coast. Serves a good range of cakes and nice tea/coffee. Staff are always friendly and go out of their way to help you. Very reasonably priced.

Our accommodation was just opposite so we had to try this place. We only stopped for coffee but the food menu looked very tempting. In the end, we couldn't resist the cakes and had delicious slices of lemon drizzle and chocolate orange. The two ladies working there were friendly and attentive to Covid measures.

We visited on a Friday afternoon not long after the teahouse reopened following lockdown. The menu choices were great, food was delicious (I had a panini) and the staff were really friendly. It had some seats outside as well as inside, nice little spot.

Visited today for the first time. So glad to have found this gorgeous place. Just ate light...scrambled egg on toast. Then tea and cake. All delicious. Served on lovely vintage crockery. Great ambience and welcomed so warmly. Nothing was too much trouble and even helped out with my phone needing a charge. No wonder its a good idea to book here. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area.

Me and mum went specifically for afternoon tea today. We both had birthdays in January so decided to treat ourselves. I'm so glad we did. The cafe itself is very quirky and cosy. The service was fantastic and the food amazing. Lovely sandwiches in the freshest bread, beautiful scones with all the trimmings and a gorgeous slice of cake. Great big teapot between us too. Found it was just enough food - we came out feeling nicely satisfied rather than overstuffed! I cannot wait to go back and can't recommend it highly enough.

We have visited Characters a number of times and it holds some special memories, most recently I celebrated my 40th birthday there with family and as always the food was amazing there staff were so accommodating we couldn’t have been looked after better. Thank you

Stopped by for a quick lunch instead of grabbing a meal deal from Boots! 100% happy I made the decision to pop in here instead. Had a made to order ham and cheese panini with a custom salad (I don't like tomatoes or cucumber) and a side of crisps. Also got to sample their delicious home made lemon cake! I will definitely be back!

Visited Llandudno for a weekend and came across this little gem of a place, during the day a Tea Room and transforms into a very pleasant evening restaurant with quite a unique twist on cooking steak. The menu guarantees at least an 8 oz. fillet steak but I would guess ours was a good 12 oz. Served with proper baked potato and roasted vegetables with three little dips of mayo, garlic and mustard. We enjoyed starters of prawn cocktail, hubby the pâté and didn’t have room for puds!They’re not licensed so take your own alcohol and their tables are laid with appropriate wine glasses or flutes, tea lights also on tables.Atmosphere so nice with everyone chatting away, would highly recommend.Well-oiled service and you can see all the hot stones coming out of the ovens in preparation, only niggle when steaks went into the stone, they were all turned over to seal the meat with waitress’s fingers. Not a criticism but an observation.

The good lady and I have just had a cracking afternoon tea. The earl grey tea is the best I have ever tasted. Sandwiches are lovely and fresh. The TURKISH DELIGHT SCONES are the bees knees. Cake also stunning. Like the mismatch of all the different cups, saucers and plates, this may have something to do with being a Stokie.

Me & my parents had a lovely afternoon tea here recently, a sit down with tea & cake was just what we needed during a long day shopping! Teas are lose leaf which is a bonus, had the stilton & cranberry sandwich which was yummy! We'll be back!

Went here with my wife when we had a spare afternoon without the kids (rare occurrence!)..We love this beautiful quirky little tea rooms, that has bags of character (pardon the pun) and is super cosy..The afternoon teas are to die for - cake, scone, crisps, sweets, sandwiches AND a drink. Fab value for the price, and the portions are generous.There is a great menu outside of the afternoon teas, with paninis, sandwiches, soups etc. to choose from.Staff are the best ever, kind, attentive, friendly and always ready to help - you couldn't ask for better.Don't miss paying this great tea room a visit, you won't be disappointed.

We visited this "little gem" of a cafe/restaurant/coffee house for a late lunch. We have visited many times over the years and the service and food is always of the highest standard. I find the afternoon tea extremely good value for money. I love to have the Turkish Delight scones; they are just delicious.

I brought my mum and fiance for lunch during October half term. Staff went above and beyond to make my mum who has recently had a stroke and has mobility and speech difficulties feel welcome. The food was great, we had the soup, cake and lots of tea - a wonderful afternoon. Thank you!

Annie and Brett are the best hosts and the staff are courteous, professional and so friendly. You're made to feel like family rather than just customers. Can't recommend Characters highly enough and looking forward to spending time there again very soon.

We had lunch here and it was excellent. Soup and a sandwich with tea. All brilliant quality and followed up by a scone which was excellent. The service makes it extra special. Very friendly and attentive even though we were down stairs out of view. Great place for lunch.

We visited this tea rooms due to its proximity to the soft play area on a wet and windy Thursday. We were made to feel most welcome even though it was evident they were very busy. The atmosphere was lovely and quaint and the food was delicious I had a afternoon tea and was not disappointed. As we were leaving I left my wife’s very expensive camera behind. By the time we realised it was 9pm, we managed to contact the manager and she very kindly drove back to work so we could retrieve our belongings. Thank you so much.

Fabulous place, always Always go here for afternoon tea wouldn't go anywhere else. The atmosphere is calm and traditional. The staff are superb literally can't fault them. I go in with my 2 little ones and they always help me with the pram and find a space for us. I just love it. And their homemade scones are delish! Only giving 4/5 cause they don't do coffee syrups which I ask for.

This is a quirky family run tea room with the best afternoon tea! Fresh food served on bone china in a lovely setting. Staff are always so friendly. Visited with my mum as a treat yesterday and had fresh sandwiches, cherry scone and carrot cake! Mum had coronation chicken sandwiches Turkish delight scone and chocolate fudge cake! Leaf tea is really nice too. Visited many times and receive the same high standards every time. We've also had other menu items on other visits, such as soup and sandwich which are equally as impressive.

Characters is a lovely tea room, light and airy with plenty of charm. Having visited last year we came back specifically for their delicious scones.

Every time we go to Llandudno first thing we do is go to Characters . Tucked away in a side street but easily found and once you’ve been you will return many times as we do.

Fantastic welcome and accommodation before the booked time- it was so hot so we hid from the heat!!! The staff are so lovely and friendly and conversation was easy! They were very busy but that did not make a difference to service. Food was fantastic, simple yet effective. A lovely sandwich and an afternoon tea which was well proportioned and didn’t leave you feeling full to bursting. Food was fresh and tasty. Price is perfect and blows the socks off other places which are closer to the beach. Wonderful atmosphere, great vintage decorations and wonderful staff. What more could you ask for?? If We were on holiday here again we would be stopping in every day- it’s such a shame they are only open 3 days a week (due to family issues) but I’m so glad we got in- booked on Facebook with no hassle at all. Superb on all levels.

Lovely fternoon tea with choice of sandwich scone cake and drink. All served in mis matched crockery. The ambience is fabulous as are the staff . Such a lovely little place. Spotlessly clean well equipped toilet . Downstairs area aswell as upstairs. Definitely recomeend and I think it's best to pre book .

Fantastic little tea house ,we booked a table for 6.30 ,only a small place so you need to book as food is bought in fresh ,l spoke to Bret when I booked the table ,very friendly and explains how the tea house works ,we choose Ribeye steak which you cook on a stone ,absolutely fabulous,you can take in your own drink ,limited to each person ,great idea ,we had a great evening ,lovely staff ,great service ,very clean ,would strongly recommend a visit .

This was my second visit and we were not disappointed.

Came here on Saturday at 3.30pm not knowing they close at 4. We were given a warm welcome and were quickly brought our order, tea for 2 with Victoria sponge and lemon curd sponge. Cakes tasted amazing and I loved that it was loose leaf tea served in very pretty vintage cups. I realised they were closing at 4 so we asked for the bill but the owner didn’t rush us at all and in fact she took some time to chat with me and my husband before we left and was a lovely charming lady. When next in Llandudno we will be back

I’ve been here about three times now and have enjoyed the cakes, but been a bit disappointed with the actual cafe.

I had a voucher off my son so I decided to take my hubby.when we went in i thought it was a bit small and it was very busy.we were greeted by a lady and told there was also a downstairs area,(which I was really glad about).lots more space,qwirky,shabby chic,lots of lamps etc ,very cosy.

We have been to Characters Hot Stone restaurant many times and they never fail to impress. 15 of us went to celebrate a birthday. Every meal was amazing quality, the fillet steak was superb, the service was friendly and professional and nothing was too much trouble. We cannot recommend this place highly enough. We can't wait to return.

My girlfriend and I came here on Friday afternoon for afternoon tea. Hadn’t been here for around two years.

Visited with some family members. Not been for a while. This place never disappoints. Great service and good food.

Had an amazing afternoon tea with my daughter. The staff couldn't be more attentive and friendly. All the food was fresh and tasty. We were so full we took a doggy bag for our cakes! Bought a voucher a few days ago for £15 for afternoon tea for 2 ( that lasts a year but we used ours so will be getting another one before the deal finishes as it is a real bargain!). Can't recommend highly enough for quality and real value. My daughter (19) is a vintage fan so loved the decor and cups and plates!5*

Just a great place to have a meal. Loving the Alice in Wonderland atmosphere of all the glasses and crockery not matching. The host is so welcoming and the staff Brilliant. Great steaks and the stone cooking makes it really different. Fab cheese board. Love it, we will be back

Why do people need to make reviews personal when surely the name Characters says everything.

The food in this restaurant is simple but good. The main and overwhelming drawback is the male proprietor. We visited on Saturday 10th. September and were greeted by the unshaven proprietor with lanky unwashed hair wearing a shirt that had not seen an iron in a long time. There is casual and there is “very grubby”. He explained that his wife( and the driving force behind the business) was off for the evening at a function in Manchester, a statement that did not bode well from previous experience. The staff on duty that evening were young but “trained”.

Debo admitir que, cuando finalmente llegamos a Characters Tea House, en una pequeña calle lateral, me sentí muy aprensivo y cuando descubrimos que los baños no eran accesibles para los discapacitados y en el sótano, no me impresionó. este tema y estoy muy contento de que pudimos quedarnos. Es peculiar, pero muy lleno de carácter. El equipo es increíble y aprecié mucho su amabilidad, amabilidad y hospitalidad. El té de la tarde era casero y muy sabroso, con mucho que ofrecer, y nos dieron la oportunidad de elegir nuestros rellenos de sándwiches y pasteles. Estaba tranquilo cuando llegamos, pero se llenó muy rápidamente y noté que era frecuentada por los lugareños, lo que es una buena señal de un salón de té excelente y acogedor. Probably our 6th visit here for the Saturday night Hot Stone experience. What a fantastic night it is especially as you take your own alcohol. This isn't frowned upon in fact the staff go out of their way to supply openers and a vast array of glasses. We went with friends this time who live locally and they were very impressed.

Came here for afternoon tea (at lunch time!) with my mother in law after hearing a lot of rave reviews about the place.

Some times nothing but a cream tea will do. So we find this place just off the Main Street delightful quintessential British. A step back in time. Loved the Turkish Delight Sconce (don’t knock it till you’ve tried it). A place worth a visit.

My 96-year-old auntie is in a care home in Llandudno. She had a family of Canadian relatives staying nearby for a week so they could visit her while holidaying. I was looking for a place all of us could enjoy a typically British activity. I thought an afternoon tea would fit the bill. Tripadvisor reviews for Characters were excellent so I phoned and booked. I had a query about my auntie's wheelchair and was reassured that we would receive help bringing the wheelchair up the steps. Sure enough, we were helped. The service was excellent. The food was great and very good value. The Canadian family of parents and two teenage boys all enjoyed the experience. I hadn't realised when I booked that the tea house closed at 4 but we weren't rushed at all as we overstayed by half an hour. I will definitely come here again with my auntie. It's about a half hour walk from her care home so a lovely trip out for her. Highly recommended!!

Think this was our fourth visit and wasn't disappointed. Had pre ordered 2 fillet steaks and had brought our own wine. Atmosphere was great quite busy, the staff attentive. The owner comes round and has a chat with everyone. Food was delicious presented good. My son just ordered a sandwich from the daytime menu. Ordered cheese and biscuits after was great nicely served. Whole evening was perfect will return the next time we visit Llandudno.

We had a group of 15 here for a birthday meal, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food and the experience. A very relaxed and organised atmosphere and will be returning. Many thanks.

A great little find. Only open for evening dinner Friday and Saturday evening. Pretty order your main and cook on hot stones at the table. Pleasant staff and a most enjoyable evening.

Called in here for afternoon tea with my husband. We really enjoyed our treat. The restaurant is comfortable and welcoming. The staff were great, very friendly but not intrusive. The afternoon tea was lovely with a great choice of sandwiches. We had Coronation Chicken and Cheese and Pickle. They were lovely. The scones were great. My only sadness is that the soup smelt so good but I was too full to try it. We shall have to go back.

We had the afternoon tea and really enjoyed ourselves. The employees were very friendly and pleasant to talk to. Coming from the U.S. and being a fan of the Great British Bake Off, I was pretty excited for my first British tea, and I wasn't disappointed.

Booked to take my Mum for afternoon tea after seeing other reviews of this place. Tasty well filled sarnies, home made scones with jam & cream and then another cake of our choice for each of us. We had our fill and came away with a doggy bag which we enjoyed later. A nice treat, would recommend.

We came to Characters based on the recommendation of our Airbnb host. It was a very hot day in Llandudno so everywhere was understandably busy. However, this place is tucked away on one of the streets further back so is a hidden gem and much quieter. We were able to get a seat outside and were instantly greeted by the man who works there. We asked if they had any cordial for a drink for our little boy. They didn't so we just said it was fine for him to just have water. 2 minutes later we saw him leaving saying he would go and buy some which was very kind. We ordered the chocolate chip scones which came served with jam, cream AND chocolate sauce. They were so fresh and delicious. I loved the decor of the cafe and when I went downstairs to use the toilet, I noticed that it has more an evening restaurant vibe down there. Heard they do hot stone meals which I would love to try if I'm in Llandudno again. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone else visiting Llandudno

Quirky little tea room with bags of character and charm. You'll find a warm welcome and tasty treats just off the beaten track of Llandudno highstreet. The scones were warm, fresh and delicious served with fresh whipped cream and jam. We tried both the ginger and the Turkish delight flavours, my favourite was the ginger. We'll definitely return here for the afternoon tea when we're next in Llandudno.

Best afternoon tea in Llandudno by far. Excellent choice of sandwiches,cakes and scones all beautifully served. Love the way all the cups,plates,serving platters are all old fashioned china and dainty. Lovely big pots of fresh tea made with tea leaves. Immaculate inside and toilets are always clean. Staff are very attentive and friendly. Not a bad word to say. Highly recommend for an oldy world dining experience.

Went for afternoon tea on Saturday afternoon. Glad my daughter hat prebooked us in as it was very busy. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were all excellent. The owner Bret came and had a chat with us and was very friendly. His sister is a TV celebrity.

Visited for afternoon tea again on Monday 09/0718 and again on Friday 13/07/18. Welcomed as always as soon as we stepped through the door. Sat in the window to watch the world go by. Food as good as ever and brought to us on a three tier stand. Sandwiches fresh as you like, coronation chicken for me and turkey and cranberry for the good lady wife. Then the thing we went for the most...... Warm Turkish delight scones. Absolutely stunning and even better when washed down with earl grey tea in a china cup. Had to take the cake with us as it’s just to much. An absolute must at just under £10 each.

What a fabulous if slightly eccentric restaurant! One needs to order the main meal choice a day in advance but the experience is truly amazing. I have been to many "hot stone" self cook restaurants and at best most have been mediocre but Characters changes all that - excellent choice of meat cuts, local lamb, aged beef, duck, salmon etc with a good selection of vegetables and side sauces. I can not recommend this restaurant enough I will definitely be returning many times!

We tend to go Llandudno late notice and every time we had tried to book the Hot Stone evening, it was fully booked, but this weekend we were lucky.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals here, which were varied, home cooked and well prepared. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We sat outside with our dog, it was a beautiful day. There is also seating inside. Cash only accepted. Would certainly love to revisit if ever in the area again.

We went to Characters on Saturday night. Having been before and really loved it, I made sure my friend booked ahead as it does get very busy and you do have to book well in advance, and order your meat. We all had the fillet steak and my friend's partner had lamb (a huge slab)! The fillet steak is absolutely wonderful, all meat arrives raw and you cook to your liking on a hot stone. Veg lovely and crisp, fluffy baked potato. This is a small intimate restaurant and they close early. It's a BYOB, which is also great for us as we are picky about wine.

Quirky little find!! Amazing afternoon tea!! A fabulous choice of cake, scones and sandwiches! Loose leaf tea in a quirky teapot. Lovely friendly staff. Only drawback is remembering to have cash on you as they don’t take cards. Definitely recommended.

Characters Tea House transforms itself on a Friday and Saturday evenings into an exciting stone cooking themed restaurant. Brett and Annie look after you in a very friendly and homely way doing all the cooking and front of house hospitality. The menu is fairly limited but wide enough to give everyone a good choice of meal. I would heartily recommend the Pate of the day as a starter and my wife and i always have the fillet steak as our hot stone cooked dish. We love this part of the meal. it means you can cut your steak accordingly and cook pieces of meat exactly to your taste. The jacket potato which Brett serves with the main course is to die for. I don't have his recipe but he must cook the jacket somehow in butter and possibly cream/yoghurt. It is beautiful as are the accompanying grilled vegetables. Then if you can find a little bit of room for a dessert try the cheeseboard. An incredible mixture of cheeses, biscuits and fruit.

Visited earlier this week, warm and welcoming, excellent pot of tea, with "proper" tea leaves !! Decor took me back to childhood, especially one of the light-fittings, Grandmother had exactly the same one !! Will definitely be back.

Oooh how I loved the afternoon tea, I wish I lived nearby because I would visit every week. A lovely choice of sandwiches and cake. My husband and I didn’t realise we couldn’t pay by card and had no cash and had already eaten but no fuss was made and we left only to return to pay after we had been out to get money. Very friendly and brilliant service. We will definitely visit again when we are back in Llandudno

I have visited Characters a number of times for afternoon tea and every time I go they are incredibly accommodate and go above and beyond to make sure we have a great visit. The sandwiches are gorgeous and the cake is unreal. I will continue to visit and eat them out of ginger scones!
