Frozen fish, ( large , one place on top of the other ) that has the same shape and taste as a mcains piece of fish, which tasted foul and was absolutely disgusting.. Chips were OK, some were still solid. Some were black.. curry sauce was the only good thing about the meal.. Customer before me had donner meat and chips in a pita bread, again pack bought pita bread. No Home made bread here.., Seems like everything is store bought.. Chippy used to be good, now its gone down the pan. Won't be coming back here.. My advice is stick to Petes or other local chippys.

No salt on chips as requested, and they were very dry. Batter on sausage very hard unable to eat it. First time of ordering and the last.

Always a friendly service and value for money.

The kebab meat was too greasy that it leaked out of the container and soaked the wrapping paper.

I absolutely love this place, chips are amazing. Fish cooked while you wait so as fresh as you can get. Battered sausages are so good. Lovely gentlemen who runs this is so friendly and accomadating.

This is a fantastic chippy. Really good food. The fish I had was awesome. I was, very impressed by the quality and price. It was delivered to me and it was still hot.

A little more expensive than other fish and chip shops, however, for the quality of food, it’s a steal. You can tell that this is a well established and trusted chippy for the area. Friendly and helpful staff, too. Would definitely recommend, and I will be going again :)

At the fourth time of trying I found a chippy that gives value for money. Large Fish chips and peas £9-50, cpmpaired to other chippys in the area thats value for money.

Just had a family supper from Chaplins. Was delicious loads too. Fish and chips were great and so was the mixed kebab. Couldn't fault it all will definately use Chaplins in future.

Ordered through deliveroo, nothing turned up despite it claiming my order had been delivered. Restaurant them closed with no updates. No food no refund

Had cod and chips. The cod was lovely but the chips were tired.

Chips tasted of really old oil and were inedible, also didnt give me 2 curry sauces which i ordered. Not sure if related to the shop itself but on the phone, the delivery driver kept going in about the location of the chippy which was really confusing when trying to meet them. Like he was trying to brag about the chippy being 'good', but it was awful! Never going again and would not reccomend, I felt sick all night and didn't even get a refund.

Waited well over an hour and 20mins I only live in Galley Common fish was ok Chips awful no colour needed leaving in longer.No decent fish and chips in Nuneaton I m afraid tried Toppers as well not good 🙁

Fish and chips, scollop were poor, we mentioned this to chaplins and were offered a refund once excepted we were told I can offer you food. I said I would appreciate the refund we were offered first as £15.00 was alot for fish and chips we didn't eat and have not heard any since. Poor customer service.

A warm welcome, very chatty was really looking forward to our fish and chips it was being cooked fresh while we were there, how dissapointing when we got home to find the fish wasn't fresh it was frozen rubbery no taste, the chips were tasteless and the scollop was green/yellow with old doughy batter not fresh, average curry sauce and mushy peas. I mentioned this on a message to chaplins and was offered a refund which we really appreciated as £15.00 was alot for something we didn't eat. I then got told we could have replacement food at some point instead, I said I would prefer the refund, not heard back since, definitely won't be going back.

Little pricey, but always been really nice in food quality and service, fed up of soggy or fatty or or over done chips everywhere else, these are always lovely and fresh every time we've been.

First time ordering from Chaplins so trued a couple of different things. Can def recommend the cod and the chicken donner meat in a tray...and, of course, the chips and curry sauce. All round Nice fish and chips!

Such bad service. We had to wait 20 minutes to just get our order taken. Although we were the only 2 people in the shop other people were coming in even though there are posters up say ONLY 2 ALLOWED IN AT A TIME. Nothing was said at all. Fish was ok but chips not brill

This chip shop has had different management over the last 18mthd, but i can honestly say they have finally got it spot on. The orders we've had over the last 10weeks have been spot on. Pre order for a certain time and you'll get fresh out the fryer. Can't fault it.

Mostly good, sadly some of this food, even on basic visual inspection, is not something I would risk eating.

Just had cod and chips and was very impressed by the quality of the food.

Rang to preorder, asked how long for all fresh fish and chips, said 10min. Was just finishing them after 12min all fresh, all hot. Beautiful couldnt fault anything. Well done

Heard lots about the place so thought we'd try as Majors across the way are far to greasy, for me anyway. Not much of a Queue as opposed to across the road, service was quick and Staff pleasant. Food - Large fish very nice, big medals of cod and crunchy batter, Battered chips hot but not much taste, Small fish a bit dry , Plain chips were not freshly cooked and were only barely warm and tasted as if they had been sitting a while! Would i try again, Hmmmm probably not just go back to the one at the top of the Town to be honest.

We have lived in Nuneaton for 4yrs. Tried many different Fish & Chip shops, with nothing tasting like our good old Essex Fish & Chips. But tonight we had some from “CHAPLINS” & they were FANTASTIC, TASTY & the Batter on the Fish, was Exceptional. Highly recommended you try it

First time going since moving back Ordered two mixed kebabs and large chips . Took it straight home on unwrap it the paper was covered in grease and the meat was cold .and to find out we have been charged £17 for two mixed meat and naan we got the meat and salad.but no naan bread

I really fancied good old chippy one day,so thought I’d try here bit septical as read some bad posts on f/b,I had fish chips mushy peas,they were lovely,nearly good as the seaside!second time I went mushy peas sausage in batter,I agreed to have them altogether mistake on my part as peas had soak in to much,the batter was soggy,not nice,but as said this is my fault,I have had a takeaway from another Chinese on a tray but curry sauce,soak into much but that’s my preference from now on separate all the way!

Went here the other night for Kebab batches and some chips, got home the kebab meat looked like it was from last week hard and curled up this was on all the batches, the chips tasted and looked like they where from the bottom of the ban, we did try some but made our stomachs turn will never go to this chip ever again, stay clear if you don’t want food poisoning disgusting .....

Just visited Chaplins fish and chips and bought chips, sausage and fishcake. When unwrapping at home all of the food is dried up and basically just been reheated since lunchtime. A complete waste of money for rehashed food when you expect and pay for fresh.

Opened at 1800 and no fish when I went in at 1830. Why bother opening?

Fabulous meal. Ordered cods roe,chips and mushy peas. Cooked to perfection and nicely presented in a box. Really friendly service too.

Second visit under the new management, clearly owners who love food and care. Food was amazing both visits. Fish and fishcake first time cook perfectly. Battered sausages second time best iv had! Chips amazing too both times, no plastic other than sauce containers amazing! Proper british fish and chips. Must try!

Under new management Chaplins is fab. Really friendly and the food was lovely and fresh! I ordered a mini fish and small chips with curry sauce.Fish was cooked beautifully as were the chips and presented in a box. Keep it up guys! It is lovely to have a decent chippy in Abbey Green.

Now under new management, looking like the best chippy in town! Definitely worth a visit.

We came across this chippy whilst shopping and WOW!! it is second to none. It is lovely and clean inside and the staff are lovely too. As for the food it was cooked fresh and it was crispy and moist but NOT soggy. Bloody bostin' we will be going back for our weekly take away.

I have held out for a year to write this review, as I thought I would see how they go. However, the food is overpriced. The quality is decreasing. You have to wait everytime for chips, it like they do not have any ready, no matter what time of day you go. The final straw came when I got chips that were very greasy, had bits of black on them - obviously the oil was going bad and they were undercooked, almost like biting into a raw potatoe when you bit the middle. I do hope the people owning Chaplins see this as once it was a very busy chippy, now I never see a queuing, such a sad demise of once a great little chippy. Its sad to see, as I have been going since a child, it is very disheartening, please please, get your act together!!!!!

Had been a long time since I last tried this chippy. The owners seem to have changed, this is evident from the quality of the chips. It was cold and we were passing so we thought chips would be nice. There was no wait as there were no other customers. The chip portion was rightish. The fish was small and over cooked. A number of chips did seem to be refried, not good. The curry sauce was nice, not too thick or runny. Overall, not the best chippy but also not the worst. I do believe my meal was over priced for what I had. Must add this to my review: this chippy made me ill 🤒

Family meal, batter was soggy around my fish, chips looked and tasted like the day before and hair in the fish cake, won't be using them again

Outdated dirty and just not very pleasant.

Had to wait longer than we were told for our order to be ready, I asked for a mini fish and they gave me something that was a lot bigger and I don’t even think it was cod at all, maybe pollock, tasted quite chewy. Curry sauce was very runny and as a result of this I believe I may be suffering from food poisoning from this chip chop. I wouldn’t return again.

Not easy to get to ( parking ) but the food is ok. Clean place and happy staff. Huge collection on the menu.

Food was okay about a year ago but had a change of ownership and now the food is absolutely terrible chicken in my chicken kebab was raw never again

First time I ever used Chaplins a year ago, everything was overcooked and oil used was either old or cheap. Couldn't tell. There are other chip shops that make an effort. Sorry, this is not one of them.

Have just moved into this town and still looking for a DECENT chip shop. This one is nothing to write home about. Average portions, soggy chips eatable fish. OK if you are hungry.

Every week we, as a family, have at least one evening meal of this chip shops fare. Very nicely cooked and saves me the problem of cooking once a week!!

Chaplin's is my local chippy, it has changed hands a few times since I moved to the area and sadly the quality has changed over those transitional periods, however upon my last visit I was surprisingly satisfied with the customer service.As I explained my order, the patron took it down then proceeded to prep and serve the food for me, upon completion he read my order back to me, realised he had overcharged me and refunded me for the difference.I would recommend Chaplin's for the great service, although often times you can find yourself in a rather large queue stood outside as the actual shop is relatively small, however the food is certain up to scratch and there are many offers on display which seem rather good value for money.

Nice chips but the flair is'nt there sorry sight that one of the best chippys in the nuneaton expectations has died rip

Chaplins is a great local chippy, situated in Abbey Green, pretty much opposite to La Tavolda Calda restaurant. For me, the best out of town chippy's are Chaplins and Nick's, in Whittleford. What also gives it brownie points for me is that it is the only chippy (to my knowledge) in Nuneaton which sells homemade fishcakes, which are really good and affordable. I wouldn't necessarily go too far out of my way to come to Chaplins but if you are in the area, its a great fish and chip shop to go to!
