Came across this really small cafe by pure chance whilst venturing through the quays. The owner was hidden at the very back of the eatery in the kitchen, and the menu was above you high on the wall. The layout, although small, was filled with benches, so in essence, you can eat inside, but I think it's mainly kept busy by the takeaway crowd. We were not expecting anything much in quality, as the prices were extremely reasonable, that said we were both taken aback to how enjoyable the currys were. What I can recall was that each day, the menu has different currys on offer, vegetarian included also. The owner is also the cook and seems to spend her time preparing and serving the food, which I suspect is all pre-made earlier that day or night before, put into various containers, placed in fridges and the rice, chips and chapati is made whilst you wait. In conclusion, it was really a nice establishment, food was delicious and we will come back again when next up North. Opens every day at 11.30 - 8 pm, closed on a Sunday.

I hadn’t been for ages and made a trip especially, having previously given a 5* review. It wasn’t as good as I remembered- food was ok, but nothing special, not as much flavour as before. Also there used to be the option for half/ half rice and chapati but apparently this is no longer possible. Instead I had to pay 90p extra for a cold chapati that had a third of it missing as it had been torn off! One staff member was friendly but the other guy was very abrupt and I think he needs training in customer service. Not sure if it’s a language problem but he didn’t seem to understand what we were asking for and didn’t respond to questions appropriately. Also there is an app for the restaurant but it didn’t seem to work and the staff weren’t bothered about it. I was told “can you just pay as we are very busy”. However there were no customers waiting, but I expect it was the online orders through Deliveroo as there were takeaway drivers hanging around in the restaurant which also kind of kills the atmosphere - seems like Chapati Cafe gives priority of service to online takeaway orders now. Overall I’d say it was ok, but I wouldn’t bother travelling all the way there especially.

We ordered via Uber eats. They sent us cold food. But the real issue was the chicken curry with the STONE COLD RAW potatoes in it. When I asked the person who answered the phone to ask the chef to taste other shouted back straight away, “ It’s cooked” without even trying it. When I asked to talk with the manager, they put the phone down on me and refused to answer. First and last time here. We didn’t trust the rest of the meal

I have been coming here regularly for a few years now, it's a regular mid week dinner spot. All I can say is it is absolutely amazing value for money. My daughter is a fussy eater but loves it here, she doesn't do curry but they have other things for young children. It's not a regular curry house, it's a rice and three place and what's available changes throughout the week. They have just added outside seating. Much healthier and even cheaper than a takeaway, this is a really hidden gem for a quick lunch or dinner.

We rang repeatedly and they hung up then when I went in person they didn't answer the phone the 30 mins I was waiting. The 'Chapati Cafe' app doesn't work so order via Deliveroo or Uber Eats as you may have more luck getting what you want if you order online. 'Saturday's menu' wasn't available for veggie so it was a lucky dip of three things for the thali two of which tasted the same, cauliflower and peas or potato and peas. The vegetable dal was a thin soup with nothing in it and like no other dal I've had before, I left it. Since it was only 6.30pm and they serve until 10pm I'd have expected they would still be making the full range of 4 veggie dishes, but alas no. My meat eating partner seemed happy enough with the meat options so I'll give them one more chance online and see if they can fulfil my order. The chapati were fine.

We ordered two wraps, were told they did not have any rice or salad to put in the wraps but they could put the curry into pots for us to take home with the roti. So we agreed to make the wraps up at home with our own rice and salad. At the same time other people were ordering rice and 3, and having the curry served up into trays THEN being told there was no rice, no salad, and no chai... We were then charged MORE than the price of the wraps because they’d served it to us separately??? Extremely disorganised business (second time we’ve visited, the first time we had to go elsewhere because they had no food ready). Surely if anything you’d expect a discount, not to be charged extra. Bizarre

The three curry combos plus rice/chapatis are perfect for two of us on a Friday or Saturday night. No es tan frecuente visitar Chorlton. Supongo que en realidad no visitamos lo suficiente, ya que es probablemente el mejor destino de Foody en Manchester. Pero, cuando lo hacemos, siempre hay almuerzo en el Chapati Caf. I have dined once in this place and have on several occasions ordered a takeaway. The customer service is not always on par... you could be waiting only to get to the front to be told there's none left. I think as a team they need to address this along with the cleanliness of the place. The curries are not to my taste, bordering on the bland side. However the chapattis are perfect - light and airy. I also like the concept of them encouraging recycling takeaway containers. I also welcome the breakfast additions and wish they would keep this all day.

We'd passed the Chapati cafe some time ago, on a flying visit to Chorlton and decided we'd try it out the next time we were in the area. Today was the day! In summary, we are kicking ourselves for not having returned long before now. Travelling from Bolton, on a miserably wet and windy day, we were immediately warmly greeted by the owners and shown the excellent and mouthwatering range of meat and vegetarian based curry options served fresh each day, all offered with options for rice, salad, sauce and chapatis. Everything is also very fairly priced. Our choices, served attractively on an Indian style compartmentalised tiffin tray with hot, fresh chapatis, were excellent, representing the very best of home style South Asian cuisine. Our hosts were charming, offering us an additional bowl of rice to try their latest curry creation fresh from the kitchen. Another delicious one to try next time. Writing this review now tonight , we're already planning how quickly we can go back .Its that good.

I have started working in Chorlton and pass the Chapati Café each day. Its format intrigued me so last night my husband and I visited to have our tea here, we had read the previous reviews including the bad but we always make up our own minds on what we try.We had the 2 meat and one veggie curry Thali dish both with rice and sides on poppadom and a chapiti, plus two bottles of Cobra beer for a total of £20, which we thought was good value, the beers alone were £6.00 for two. There are special daily curries available, at the time of our visit the meat was Chicken Karahi which were warned by the staff was very spicy the veggie was aubergine and spinach which my husband fancied but it was sold out. It was a warm sunny evening so we sat at an outdoor table and enjoyed our mild chicken, lamb and potato curries. The mild was just that but still tasty, the lamb was succulently soft with a bit of a spicy kick and the potatoes had a nice heat to them. We found the portion size just right we left the table full but not bloated. The service was excellent and friendly, there were not many other customers as it was 5.00pm on a Saturday evening. We have recommended this café to our son and his girlfriend for a tea time meal.I think some reviewers have been a little critical and may be comparing this café/takeaway against a proper Asian restaurant.Give this café a try and decide for yourselves.

Chapati cafe is a family favourite! The food is gorgeous and so authetic tasting - much nicer than the usual indian takeaway. However the staff are shocking. Each time the service is so slow... shockingly so, when to think they hardly take pride in presentation (its placed in a thali not much needed). The staff are mostly very young- presumably cheap labour but wow they need retraining!! I had a big complaint about one of the members of staff annabell, she was horrendous and if i ran a cafe she would no longer be working for me. To be fair to the management they arranged for me to have a free meal for two. We went to get that... got all the way home and they had forgot the chapattis!! So we had to go all the way back for them meaning we then had to reheat the food. Please retrain your staff/hire older and more conscientious staff members.

We've been a few times; no booking, just on spec. This is not your average curry house; it's home cooking performed and sold in public. If you have friends from the Indian sub-continent who you've eaten with, you'll recognise it immediately.Reminiscent of the small workers cafe we used to go to 35 years ago near the Arndale (the Shalimar it was called and the man who owned it did the world's greatest keema matar and koftar) when I worked at Manchester Poly, and again, no mass-produced or tinned stuff there.Bonnyoo shouldn't have had chips - just the normal roti - chips take too long, but they have it right for their next visit.Prices vary according to what you select - it's a small fixed daily menu, you select 3 curies - the more meat you have the dearer it is, but it's not more than £9 with a beer to fill you up. Karahi lamb was a special (+ 50p) and really good last Saturday. Eileen is our keema expert and that passed muster too.Open for lunch and until 8.00 pm in the evening. Just 5 minutes walk up Wilbraham Road from Chorlton Metrolink station - turn right out the station and keep on that side of the road until you get there - it's facing Croma. So go there to make sure it stays open.

An excellent Thali with a good choice of curries. It's helpful that you can see them in the canteen style counter as it's easier to decide.Lovely staff take the time to chat about what things are. You can have 3 curries and rice or chapati or half and half. I thoroughly enjoyed it and the price was very reasonable.A nice touch is that they serve water in metal cups like they do in India. Beware the green chilli chutney!

Came here on a Saturday afternoon, first impressions were good but I was a little dissapointed with the curry options for that day compared to the ones offerred mid week - Would of loved to have tried one of the Karahi dishes. The food was lovely especially the potatoes and it was so filling. The only downside was that we ordered half rice, half chips and the young waiter said he would being the chips over when they were cooked. Well we pretty much finished our food before the chips were ready and by that time the food was cold. I would go back to try the other dishes but will opt for a chapati instead of chips next time

We visited here on Saturday tea time after someone recommended the place to us. As curry lovers, I kept an open mind before passing judgement. WOW is all I can say, it surpassed our expectations. As soon as we arrived I noticed straight away at how clean and hygienic the place was. We went up to the counter and informed the young waiter it was our first time and can he explain how it works. He said all the food is served Thali style, which is an Indian style meal, made up of a selection of various dishes served on a platter, he said we can chose three curries or dhal or potatoes off the menu which was clearly visible, and we can chose either rice, nan, salad or half and half. I opted for a curry chicken, lamb curry and a spinach dhal along with boiled rice, nan, salad and mango chutney. The food was amazing, we ordered two thali meals, 2 drinks and 2 samosa's (which were gorgeous) and it came to £17- ish. The quality of the food was fantastic, the staff were great and I am very impressed. We will certainly be back, keep up the good work!

I bought a take out from an online delivery service, and based on word of mouth, decided to try this for the first time.It was excellent. I couldn't complain about anything. Chicken curry was outstanding... the use of spices was spot on.Will be going again.

Wonderful food, honest and humble environment. Freshest ingredients with plenty to choose from, only negative is the over priced drinks.

Totally unauthentic so called Indian/Gujarati food. Bland and tasteless. So many better Indian street food style options opening up. Slow service and the lady owner really does not appreciate any Indian people coming in for fear of exposing the utter rubbish disguised as authentic Indian/Gujarati food. Avoid

Very old, very dirty, dingey, the food was beyond disappointing, the waiters were friendly but the food is maybe the worst I've ever tried in any restaurant. Flavourless, old, low quality and the price is ridiculously high for this kind of quality. I went here as the reviews made it sound really nice but it was a total waste of money and I would highly recommend you avoid this place. I can't imagine this place has a hygiene rating of more than 1. There are much better Nepalese restaurants in the vicinity, don't waste your time or money. When we got there we saw a family leave with alot of food barely touched, I thought they weren't hungry but should've realised that was a bad sign that the food was awful.

Had the chance to meet the owner last night and boy oh boy, he's an absolute legend. Self made and determined. He has other businesses aswell . Very kind and helful. The place is for thoes who want to have a good time meeting friends and celebrating life . Hookah/shisha is the best in town . Hopefully we'll have the chance to come here again soon enough ....
