Chan's Takeaway in St. Helens

Really nice take away, decent portions, and lovely food

I mused for sometime at the edible delights being offered by this most quaint of establishments. The name " Chans" to me had undertones of a Chinese heritage and therefore should have come to no surprise to me to find out this was exactly what it is.... I decided to go for my "Go to" order..(Beef curry and Fried rice). As I Tucked into this most humble of Chinese cuisine I was immediately hit by an almost tsunami of senses hitting my unprepared taste buds...The Beef so moist and succulent reminded me of a taste that I've never tasted before!...it almost instantly transported me to a place that I can only describe as being a mixture of Heaven and Wrexham. I loved this place, The staff were so helpful I would happily have anyone of them caring for me in my tender years and quietly singing me Des O'connor Classics.....

Best Chippy in St. Helens! Salt and pepper chicken and prawn toast always tasty and they do the best curry sauce I’ve ever had. Can’t fault them.

So pleased went to tasty corner to be spoken to like crap so went on adventure to find somewhere else this fish and chip shop is something else amazing and affordable definitely be back

I loved this chippy ,ordered £55 of food and it was very bland and will not use them again.

I've always loved there food but friday it was awfull and it cost me £55..never again...very tasteless..I now have to find a decent chippy in St Helens...

Nothing on the menu is gluten free. Not even one option. This is poor.

Always had great food from here.

Just got my carton of slop er I mean food , flash fryed chips where pretty much inedible , granted I went in quite late but why have a closing time if there getting ready to close half an hour before it . This place has gone downhill I don't think the owners are bothered about standards any more as this wasn't the first time I've literally left with a bad taste in my mouth , overpriced as well.

Never had one bad meal from here. Food is always lovely and the staff are great too 10/10

Ordered a simple chicken Chinese curry, picked up and received salt and pepper chicken. Asked for the correct food and told they couldn't deliver as its to far??? 8 mins away is to far??? Let the Chinese run a Chinese takeaway. Manager was was a joke on the phone childish

Awful experience!! The staff where so rude! Found a hair in my food and when I asked why they haven’t got hair nets on they said they don’t need to we wear them they wear caps instead???!!! She then lied and said there were no delivery drivers on to collect our food…. I got to the shop and there were delivery drivers waiting to take food out! The noodles where horrible and the sweet and sour chicken tasted like rubber!! DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!!!

ordered my meal and asked for secific dietry ingdients, order came, totally wrong fromwhat iodered. chinese woman who runs this place needs to calm down and smile more. rang uto tell them items where missing, all i got was nothing we can do apart from appologise. wont be buying fromthesse again. Just ordered a meal over the phone at 18.10 for 19.00, I arrived at Mr Chans at18.50 where there were 2 people waiting outside. I went in and said what my order was and my name only to be waved outside and told ‘yes yes it’s coming’. So I stood outside. Multiple times I was told ‘ yes it’s coming’ so I waited. I spoke to multiple people who said ‘ it’s not as bad as last week’. So I waited. At 19.40 I was told we can’t find your order and could I wait while they cooked one. Absolutely disgusting service. If it wasn’t ordered then just say at the beginning. If I could give it a negative star then I would.

Ordered from here for years and food was lovely until I found a maggot in my chip, sorry won't be ordering again.

Absolutely disgraceful been ordering for 5 years first time today I made a complaint special fryed rice and mixed meat fryed rice with hardly any meat and the meat that was in it was black after I phoned they said send it bk and we will sort a refund after 1hour 20 mins I rang bk to be told not only did they have my food they wont give a refund coz THE MANAGER SMELT THE FOOD AND IT SEEMS FINE never again will I order here every order I have placed has been 25-30 pound and they do this disgusting

Really good food and generous portions. We both got the £12 banquet for one and were pleasantly surprised! Well worth the money. The only complaint would be that my fried rice was a bit on the dry side, but it wouldn't stop us coming back. 👍

Every time I order from this chippy my food takes around 2 and half hours to 3 which is ashame really because this my favourite Chinese with lovely food but I will not be ordering from there anymore. They should not accept orders or turn off the just eat. Sorry but 3 hours waiting for my food is unacceptable.

Chans is one of the best Chinese takeaways/Fish and chip shops in St Helens. The food is exceptional well worth traveling to try it out.

Normally I would collect but moved house recently and have ordered a few deliveries. The food quality is still outstanding and arrives hot and fresh. For somewhere that has always had people queues before C-19 they are always on time or early. Definitely a strong contender for 'Best Chinese takeaway/delivery' gold award. Sweet and Sour Chicken balls come still crispy and the Chilli beef is sweet yet has a kick to it. Can tell it's cooked in clean oil plus Chips are homemade unlike some places. Reasonably priced, social distance without feeling awkward, generous portions. great place. The reputation locally speaks for itself

Went on Saturday night ..chips were frozen chips not properly cooked and chicken Cantonese sauce wasnt pleasant at all . Spring rolls were good ..wouldn't go again

Ordered my meal at 7pm and was given delivery time of 8.25pm.... I called at 9pm to find out where my meal was, “just being cooked now” was the answer Unexpected issues can arise that cause delays, but surely someone could ring and inform the customer. Very poor service on this occasion.

Firstly my order was £15.30, the driver gave me £2.70 change then ran off, so he gave himself a little £2 tip. Secondly my salt an pepper chicken was rock hard i tried to put my folk into it an it just flew of my plate. The portion sizes are terrible, the curry was just orange oil & the chips were rank. If i could rate this 0 then i would, this will definatly be my first and last time!

Just ordered for the first time after searching for a good Chinese.. close to where I live, we had mixed meat satay, salt and pepper chicken, rice, chips, and onion ring. Got to say it was amazeeeballsss and we et the lot. The delivery driver was superb as well! Very welcoming and friendly.. I will be ordering food again. Thank you

Chips were overdone, the rest was cold, I was told 30 minutes when ordering on the phone, ended up waiting 55 whilst they served everyone else who walked in. Chicken was too tough to even bite through 🤮

They’ve had a bad rating lately on hygiene I’ve had some awesome barbecue spare ribs and chips in the past.Last 3 visits you couldent feed a cat on the ribs nothing on em been a insult 3 shots and they’ve had it with me their 3 shots are up.

Really disappointed, frozen chips, bbq sauce not sweet had a vinegar taste, and also got lamb pancakes got a small pot of bbq sauce with it instead of hoi sin sauce we will not go back so dissapointed !

Amazingcrispy aromatic duck was delicious and exactly what you would expect from a good Chinese takeaway. Duck was delicious with hardly any fat, and you get a good amount of veg and pancakes also. Went in to order and was waiting no more than 10 mins. Would definatley recommend.

Ordered a takeaway and they said delivery was an hour. Have the time and they never arrived. Tried to ring and no one answered, phone just kept ringing out. They took the money but never got any food. Stay clear

Just had roast duck in plum sauce (supposedly) it was awful. The duck was not cooked in plum sauce. The duck was served on a bed of lettuce? and the plum sauce in a separate pot. Not what I expected or what I have had before. Not impressed.

Ordered a pick-up and still waited 20 mins at the counter. Food was bland gravy like hot water.

We have had a takeaway from Chans once a week for nearly 2 years & every meal has been lovely, generously sized & fast delivery. The food is always still hot on arrival & the delivery staff are always really friendly. We have never felt the need to go elsewhere.

Ordered a shared starter, spring rolls then 2 beef curry . Picked it up as delivery 45 mins . What a total waste of money . The starter was cold and all greasy it was disgusting . The curry was full of oil floating on the top we mixed it up to try the beef and we ended up putting it all in the bin it was terrible .

Ordered through JustEat spending £24 at 18.11. Our order was accepted and a delivery time of 19.30 was given to us by the takeaway. The order didn’t arrive and the restaurant had took the phone off the hook and gone offline from JustEat. Not even JustEat could get in touch with the takeaway nor the owner. I had to cancel the order and reorder elsewhere. Now my whole family is still sitting here without food at 20.15 because of the ignorance and incompetence of this takeaway and it’s employees. If you can’t handle the heat, don’t offer a service you can’t deliver!!!!

If I could rate it zero I would! So we ordered via the just eat app at 18:30 we rang the shop at 20:15 when they finally answered the phone as it was saying they delivered the food at 19:50 they told us it was on its way and late due to having 1 driver fair enough, the food arrived at 20:30 and wow i was disgusted salt and pepper chicken was cold and gooey the chips was burnt rice was hard and cold we had to warm my son's up in the microwave so the whole lot went in the bin so best thing out of the whoke order was the prawn crackers and even those wernt the best I will never order from here again!

Just got a chips sausage and peas sausage under cooked. Just got binned. Chips taste like they were yesterdays chips. Not happy

If I could of give 0 stars I would have ! I was told my order would be ready in the hour, 70 minutes later I called to check where my food was. I was told it wasn't cooked yet and it would be with me within the hour? I passed the phone to my mum who asked what the delay was and she was told it was being packed in the kitchen? They offered complimentary prawn crackers ! when asked how long delivery would be she said she could not give a time I think this service stinks like her attitude !

Never had a bad meal. Hot & Sour soup is delicious. Not too spicy and the right level of sweetness. Good portion sizes.

Missing items from order again. This is about the fourth time in a row an item/items have been missing. Not been for a few weeks as got fed up of it happening and the restaurant saying they'd include it next time. Then when the next time came, they didn't include it and would forget something else too. First time ordering again today and still can't get it right. Used to come here every week as the food was lovely, delivery was good and we were never disappointed. Now, it's usually late and we never get what we've ordered. Think I'll be finding somewhere else from now on.

Order requested and confirmed for 7pm collection. food was not ready until 7:30pm after we had been stood in the takeaway since 6:55pm According to staff - “food is not cooked until you come in” in a very rude tone. Don’t bother ordering through here, or actually ordering at all. Food definitely was not worth the wait.

First time I had been food was really good. Delivered on time and really hot. One item wasn't In the delivery but they came straight back with it. Would order again.

The service was great in the sense that it was delivered really quickly and the food was well packaged. my only grievance being that the sausage dinner didn’t state anywhere than it contained onions. Largely chopped onions underneath the peas. it wasn’t difficult to remove them but with no description I wouldn’t have assumed they would be to ask them to be removed.

New Years Eve, so not too disappointed regarding late delivery of only a few minutes. Food arrived hot, which is more important, and even the complimentary prawn crackers were warm. Food always delicious.

I’ve not ordered from there for a few years after a poor experience, but tried again today. My mistake...they got part of the order wrong, the curry was inedible as the sauce was no more than oil, and some of the food was cold by the time I’d made the 2 minute walk home. Will not be using again.

Absolutely awful. My chicken foo yung was an omlette with pieces of chicken, plonked ontop of the chips. 1st time i have had foo yung without beansprouts and onions etc. The food was so greasy I threw the rest in the bin. First time i have ordered and it was a waste of £13

the food was nice but main meal missed off its Christmas Eve and after waiting in a long que for collection and finally getting home for it to be missing was very disappointing

Items missing from order. Wouldn't normally complain but it happened last week too, rang restaurant and they asked me to wait until my next order or wait 'a while' before the items were sent out. By the time they were sent out the food was stewed and cold so I didn't bother to complain this week, just let the delivery man know at the door and told him to leave it. A one off mistake is fine, but when you're paying for items you don't receive every week it gets a bit annoying. Delivery men are always really polite and apologetic - it isn't their fault. It's the people packing the order getting it wrong.

Iv been going to chans for about 20 years and the foods always been nice and reasonably priced plus the portions have always been massive iv never had a small portion off them ever....buy a portion of chips from chipmonk and compare them...also the fried rice dishes are massive to ...if your looking for some hot n tasty chinese food or even english food id highly recommend Chans

Food was amazing and the staff are very, very friendly. I ended up collecting the food as the wait would have been over 1hr, but that was my choice. Totally recommend this takeaway and I will definitely be ordering again soon!

Food was nice but the sauce leaked into the bag, the lid was not put on tight.. 30 mins was added to my deliver time which was later than I would have liked but otherwise the food was nice

S&P chicken didn't have any taste, literally just plain chicken balls with about 20 pieces of onion in the corner. Fried rice was bland. Noodles was okay but that's as far as I'll go. Chips was refried with next to no potato in them. Basically I added soy sauce to all dishes when I got home to add some flavour. Really shocking tbh. Wouldn't recommend to anybody. Was of money.

the food took over an hour and a half , the food was cold and was almost inedible as the schezaun sauce from one of the meals had leaked all over the other meals. one of the meals was also missing. will not use again

ordered our food and it said it would be delivered in 1 hour and 5 minutes, it eventually turned up an hour and a half after ordering and 3 phone calls later, the food was cold and all stuck together, all they had to say was sorry for your wait, will not be going here again and strongly advise against ordering from there.
