Humble surroundings mask a true gift to the palate. Service is slow. But Channi bhai cooks for you as if you are guests that have turned up after years and ensures time stands still for him to show his mastery and then sits down to have a chat as if he is done for the night just to be with you. Unpretentious, gracious and a charming raconteur 😉 👍

Such a real authentic place, cooked by a Channi himself a man who cooks with heart. The food has a subtle wholesome taste, the Makanni is superb, the lamb long cookedand the rice has dicate flavours. Its golden yellow wall and oak floor quietly places you somewhere else further east of Birmingham. You want to know an origin of the B triangle you may start here. The price is just right, and there is bar if you like to drink spirits.

The owner being a Sikh should realise that a good % of his customer base will be visiting his restaurant on the fact that it “should” NOT be halal. I asked the question on my visit with 5 friends and was told that to be on the safe side I should order fish or veg. Really?!! I questioned where they sourced their meat from and was told there were not sure?? Be honest! If you are serving something you believe you should not be then you have a obligation to let your customer base know. I ask again, can you confirm which butcher you source your meat from?

Been going to this restaurant for years now . Can’t fault the food at all , our favourite starter being lamb tikka, kids love it too. We normally take our own alcoholic drinks as they allow that and we order soft drinks from there. Food takes slightly longer as it’s all cooked fresh. I’ve been going there for years and not once have I had a negative experience.

Coming from a Punjabi family we didn't often go out to Indian restaurants to eat since we could have it at home, so I was really looking forward to going to an authentic Punjabi restaurant and decided on Channis from a friend's recommendation and it was an amazing decision. Excellent food from start to finish, ordered a truck load of food and while it was all amazing, the highlights were probably the lamb chops and the butter chicken, some of the best dishes I've ever had in my life. Lamb Balti, the rest of the mixed grill and the chicken pakora were also great. Accompaniments also fantastic (paratha was to die for) and washed it down with some Malibu and cokes. Absolutely outstanding, definitely a place everyone should visit if they're able to

We were looking to eat authentic Indian punjabi fare cooked by Indian Punjabi's so as to get the right Spice & homely taste. This place proved just perfect. It is owned & run by a friendly Sikh Gentleman, who is also the head chef. We ordered Sheekh Kebabs, Mutton Balti, Dal Makhni & Paratha's. Everything was delicious & portions were generous. Service was quick, efficient & food is reasonably priced. Yes, interiors are bit old fashioned but food is what mattered & the very reason for us to visit! Go ahead & indulge in that typical Punjabi Indian taste!

Like many reviews, it's all about the food here, not the ambience. The place is still in a state of disrepair in places, though they have recently put a new floor down. The prices are comparable with better quality establishments. The portions are small but full of flavour. We ordered takeaways if Tawa fish and tawa mushrooms which was tiny and not very good value at almost £10 each.

I have been going to this restaurant for years and on a weekly basis. It has to be the best restaurant around. Like what someone has said in a previous review, every penny you spend is spent on quality food with an authentic taste and not on fancy wallpaper and plants. Channi is a chef who clearly appreciates good food and wants his customers to experience it every time they visit. I also have to mention Harvey who is the waiter there - a fantastic guy who delivers exceptional customer service every time. Definitely recommend this place for a meal out.

It may look from the outside like many of the other Indian restaurants in the vicinity, however, the quality of the food is a world apart from anything else in the area. The ingredients are obviously fresh and each dish prepared with a great deal of care. This is top quality Punjabi food with the hint of an East African influence. The décor is dated, the service is informal and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. These aspects just add to the charm of the place. Remember it's all about the food.Parking can be difficult. If you can, travel by taxi or leave yourself a good few minutes to find a space.

Let me say first of all that we were greeted very well and Channis is lovely. My taste buds are always welcoming of good Indian Punjabi food, because of my Sikh background and as it is a rarity as most restaurants cater for Bangladeshi or Pakistani cuisine. The food was very lovely. However the reason I am giving this only 3 stars is because the wait for the food was like an hour and the place wasn't even busy, I was very tempted to give this a 2 star review because it was a huge wait - Had my food been served to me in a reasonable waiting time it would have been a 5 star review because the food was great. The wait was so long that I was going to say something at one point as I got very tired and I needed to get back to work but my partner said it maybe worth the wait and they maybe understaffed, but no one had come out to explain why we were still waiting. Anyway the food was excellent.

We have been going to Channis for years (last time was just last night!) – I agree with Jan T the previous reviewer that you’re not paying for upmarket decor – but you ARE paying for fantastic Indian food, cooked just the way you request it to be cooked and great service with Channi the owner / chef being ever present. Each time we go we order a takeaway for the freezer for those times when we just can’t get out but need our fix of Channi’s fabulous cooking. I am Brummie born and bred and have eaten in many of the curry restaurants in the what’s known as The Balti Triangle and Channi’s is the only one that we keep coming back to year after year. Keep it coming Channi!

There are so many restaurants that look nice when you walk in: they've invested in leather chairs, modern china, plants and floral decorations, and you think you must be in for a treat. Then the food arrives, and the very thing you've actually come in for lets you and your family/friends down. The opposite is true of Channi's. The decor is pretty much unchanged from the 80s because what you're paying for is delicious, fragrant food made with authentic herbs and spices and good quality meat and veg prepared with loving care - and the friendly welcome you get, and the attentive staff. Channi is still there, and pops out from the kitchen from time to time to make sure you're happy. You can order any dish mild, medium or hot, and if you ask for wine and they don't have what you want, they'll pop next door and get it for you. So when my husband and are celebrating an anniversary, that's where we go. And we've never been disappointed.

If you want a cheap night out, then Channi's at the top of Stratford Road is OK, but only OKThe food was not brilliant, the yogurt dip thick and tasty (but not sure tasting of what), the Aloo Gobi was more cauliflower than potato, and the peshwari dripping in honey and too sweet. All in all, the best thing was the company and the Cobra beer.

We ate at the Indian Brewery on a wed evening, it was quiet which is the only reason I didn't give it 5. The decor sets the scene for Indian street food and it really does deliver on the promises of such a cool setting. The staff were pleasant and friendly, the menu was intriguing, the food was very well presented and tasted as good as it looked. It's fabulous, I would definitely recommend it to anyone. The beer is fresh from it's own brewery and the staff took pride in putting a perfect pint. The 2 for 1 cocktails went down well with half of our party of 4. We ordered too much food between us and begrudgingly had to leave some of the fries. But 4 of us ate like kings, had 2 x pints, 4 X cocktails and more food than we could eat and it was still less than £25 each. Don't pass this place, it deserves your custom.

My first time ordering from here, and sadly, it will also be the last. I chose this place based on the glowing reviews, but the food was absolutely horrendous. The mint dip tasted like plain yoghurt, with no hint of mint whatsoever. The chicken tikka masala was watery, more like soup, and completely tasteless—nothing like what a proper tikka masala should be. For the price, I expected far better. The food was expensive and didn’t come close to meeting expectations. Very disappointed, especially as I had such high hopes.
