Champion in Wiltshire

Been going here for the last thirty years family owned and it shows Would highly recommend although they only do take away . Ours is a 16 mile round trip the drive home is a torture smelling the food but munching on the prawn crackers helps

This was always a family favourite for years and years, not any more the food is bland and inedible. Please don,t waste your money or set yourself up for a disappointment. Sad

Was always a family favourite but I am sadly saying this is not not the case any more! Son is home from a military posting and requested a meal from The champion which was always a family favourite….so disappointed!!! Five willow fish was like the back end of a scabby old piece of cod (if you dare call it fish) sweet and Sour chicken was tough as my old mama boots, Singapore noodles were more super noodles with no flavour, dare I go On? Awful meal! So disappointing as this was the place we always knew we’d get a good meal! Bring back the old crew as something had drastically changed for the worse at The. Champion in westbury and yea I have spoken to them in person before anyone moans xx

This is quite possibly the worst chinese i think i have ever had. The sweet and sour chicken was so anemic, and the sauce was like water. I also ordered a chow mein which was swimming in gravy, with about 2 bits of chicken in the entire dish. The crispy shredded beef was grey and looked like it had been sat there for a week. 1/5 stars is generous in my opinion. Avoid like the plague.

Used to love this place the roast pork curry was my husband’s favourite and I always loved the special chow mein.I know prices are bad but I’d rather they had made the portion sizes smaller than ruined the quality . We ordered our usual and both had little meat and were very salty. And when I say reduced meat I mean by about 75% just awful.

Have used this restaurant for many years, mostly for takeaway meals. The food and service is generally good and reliable, but more recently, the staff seem inexperienced and takeaway orders should be checked as occasionally, the wrong dish has been included. There is a public car park next door to the premises. This venue is very popular locally and it's advisable to book a table in the restaurant or, place an order by telephone for takeaways.

Hands down, THE most disgusting chips I have ever eaten. I only managed four and then had to throw the rest away. Barely cooked & the taste was so far removed from a potato. Most decent chippies use one fryer for chips only but definitely not here. ‘Rank’ sounds harsh, but certainly true.

Used both the takeaway and restaurant many times. Always great food and the staff are always really friendly too.

Feel the dishes have gone downhill slightly in latter years. Not as tasty as used to be...have u changed supplier/recipe?

Worth travelling from Warminster. Online service worked well and the food was very tasty, best local takeaway.

My partner and I went in for a meal to try the restaurant again. After the first experience about 4 yrs ago, it wasn't worth visiting. My neighbour swears they are great! She obviously hasn't lived much. I still was disappointed, even though we sat in a prime position by the window, and the service was good. The food however is too westernised and tasteless. It's not an authentic Chinese Restaurant, and the prices are just way to pricey for what you get. They do have a licensed bar in the restaurant and we had tried the wine, but it was too sour for us the first time we were in there, so house plonk is not our tastes. I guess if you prefer the Prosecco? You pay for it too. My partner and I have found this little piece of Westbury not to our liking and wont be returning in the future.

This place has become hit and miss. Sometimes you can have a brilliant meal here but other times it comes out lukewarm

We came here for a get together with work associates, the restaurant was quiet so that was lovely with no waiting, the waiter came over and took our drinks order in good time, the food selection was great with choices and plenty to choose from. Our food came very quick some of the chicken balls were a little over done and crunchy and the chow mien noodles were quite salty but that maybe goes with taste buds :). Apart from that the food was fantastic. We had a lovely evening and would definitely go back and recommend to others.

My family and I have purchased takeaway food from this establishment on three occasions in the last three months. There is a notice in the establishment asking customers to make known any food allergies. This is a farce because on the three occasions that we purchased food we made it clear that we did not want any green,yellow or red peppers. We were assured that none would be in the food. However when we returned to where we were staying in Chapmanslade several of the dishes contained green peppers which I am strongly allergic to and therefore was unable to eat. As it was late we did not wish to draw return the food and therefore wasted a considerable amount of money. On the 27th of December we purchased a meal for four at a cost of £35. I specifically informed the server that I was allergic to green peppers and she passed this information on to the kitchen.I stated what had happened on the two previous occasions and she was very apologetic and assured me this would not happen again. When I open the meal I found Green peppers. On the 16th of December my husband purchased a meal which cost £46.50 and again despite requesting no purpose it contained them. There was one previous occasion in September or October of this year whenn the same thing happened. I believe this is appalling the staff seem to have no regard For clients welfare. If they cannot oblige they should make that clear. We have wasted a considerable amount of money at this establishment.

Nice starters as we had the mixed selection and 1/4 duck. .ains were ok shredded chill beef was quite "hot" apparently, more so that usual. Service was a bit slow but would prob try again.

Visited with an old friend who lived locally - it wasn't bad, it wasn't amazing or anything to write home about. Chose the fixed menu for two for ease, and would expect this to be excellent - but it was not memorable. Sorry - won't be going again.

I'm not sure if it was the batter perhaps but I have never tasted anything like how those sausages tasted. I have a craving for sausages and sadly left very disappointed. We wont be returning to the area so will not be visiting here again. This is the only takeaway that sells chinese and English food for miles and is very popular for that reason

Ordered a takeaway from The New Champion and the size was great and they didn’t skimp on anything.The food tasted great but....My partner chocked on a hair in her food.She managed to get over this and thought it was a one off, till she found a second hair in her food.This makes me question there implementation of food hygiene practices.Very disappointed. Will not be returning.

The restaurant is good and food is lovely. Staff is friendly. Place is spotless. Only downside is the bathroom is absolutely freezing

We were 7 for an evening out. The host was very patient when part of our party arrived late. He allowed us time to talk before he started serving the meals. We all ordered different dishes. They all were served at the same time, hot and delicious. We also liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. The interior is tastefully decorated. This is a good restaurant for a get together with friends or family.

We stopped by early on a Saturday evening, on spec, and were able to get a table. The food was good and the portions very generous; they were happy to pack up the leftovers for us, so we got another meal out of it as well.

Food has definitely gone downhill, it used to be good but is now bad, runny curry sauce was more watery than ever, thin sweet and sour, and BBQ chicken no better than battered with a little food colouring......even the serving girls were more worried about doing their hair than serving customers.

Awful Chow Mein and sweet n sour were average and the chilli beef was inedible, just a stodgy mess. I don’t think any of the dishes were freshly cooked on site. Just meat partly mixed in with gloopy sauce. Waste of money going there.

Very poor service. After being seated no one came to take our drink or food order, had to ask the waitress to come and take our orders. Waited a good 45 mins for starters to arrive, and again at least another 45 mins for our main to arrive. Once the table was cleared we were totally ignored and again had to find a waitress to take our coffee order. What made it worse the 2 tables next to us arrived after us and were served straight away, they had finished their meal by the time our main course arrived. The food was very average, not bad, but not great! Will not be going back there. Very disappointed!

This is one of those restaurants that suffers from being consistently good so a person forgets to say that it is good because it becomes the norm. Food is excellent both in the restaurant and take-away. Service is also very good so do try it

Simply the BEST CURRY in the area. My usual, Chicken Curry, Egg Fried Rice,Chips and pot of Curry Sauce. The wife, Special Chicken Fried Rice with a pot of Curry Sauce and a few of my Chips.

I visited this restaurant whilst staying at a hotel just up the road and was recommended it, my friends and I was so happy with the quality of food and friendly staff we’re recommending to others.

Ordered food first thing on a Saturday night. 5.40pm Placed the order. Told 20-25 minutes. Arrive just after 6pm. Waiting for noodles the guy tells me. 5 minutes I think. Countless customers arrive and go before me, and I see them look at me, waiting patiently. Stupidly however I assume they haven't forgotten me.

We were staying in the area to be close to Bath for the Christmas markets and decided to call here again. We actually enjoyed takeaway meals on two evenings, we opted for Chinese food but there was a good selection of English food offered. We really enjoyed our meals which were cooked fresh and were still hot when we arrived back to our accomodation. See you again next year

Excellent food, quick service and friendly helpful staff. Thoroughly recommend a visit to this restaurant.

Stumbled on this place as it was a Monday night and most places in this area aren’t open and serving food. We lucked out that it was tasty and it hit the spot. My husband and I split the chicken and cashew (turned out to be his favourite), the king prawns in garlic sauce (it turned out to be my favourite) and we had beef and broccoli. All three were great. To start we had soup as it was a chilly Autumn night. My husband loved his “Three Winter” soup and I had the chicken and mushroom soup. We were just passing through while we spend time in the area seeing Stourhead and Stonehenge. Would eat here again if we were in the area!

We ordered cod and sausage and chips, could see it sat ready under the heater but still had to wait over 10 mins for something we could have dished it up ourselves!

It was a long time since we had visited it,so were unsure if it would be as good as it used to be. We weren't disappointed. We had booked a table which is advisable as it was a very busy Saturday night. My husband had the chicken & sweetcorn soup which he said was lovely i had the won ton soup it was very nice. For mains we had the champion special chicken, shredded crispy beef, plain noodles & chips which was delicious. we thoroughly recommend the food. The downside was the drinks service as other reviews have said we too had to wait a long time for our drinks so much so that we had to go to the bar to get them although we thought the prices were good for a restaurant although choices were a bit limited. Also maybe they could of had more staff for a busy Saturday. But we would definitely return to eat there.

Very good food, plenty of choice. Service good and surroundings pleasant. Price is not too bad for the quality of the food.

We've been here many times and always enjoy the food here. It's of a good quality and very tasty. It was a busy Saturday evening and the atmosphere was lively, but service was still excellent. The Mongolian crispy lamb is still our favourite, but all was good.

We arrived full of expectations we was seated quickly enough, the drinks order was taken but took 20 mins to arrive.we plced our order for a starter each which took another 25 mins.the main course for me was bland, mt wifes lemon chicken was hard we alas was disappointed.

Decided on a Chinese meal so popped in while staying over in Westbury. Very friendly staff, polite and courteous. Had spicy chicken and cashew nuts with egg fried rice. Also ordered a side of mange tout at £4, a total of 5 mange touts were mixed in with the main dish! Not doing that again! Place was clean and friendly, I stayed for dessert. Good house wines on offer. May go back again, but wouldn’t order any veg sides.

The food and service is good -- we only tried the takeaway, not the restaurant, but based on the takeaway we would not be averse to booking a table soon. The portions are decent and the food is nothing to complain about. I do wish they delivered though!

We got a takeaway here. It was decent but no treat. Spicy beef lacked spice, cashew chicken bland. Sweet and sour pork punchier. Rice mundane, noodles ok, crispy duck good (but no Chinese ever fails on that...!)

Myself and partner were staying locally last month and decided to order a take away from here. Menu available online, pre ordered then collected shortly after ordering. We throughougly enjoyed our meals portion sizes were very generous, the food was hot. We enjoyed it that much we tried to make a reservation for the restaurant for the next evening sadly they were full. We will return when we are in the area.

Went here to try it because it seems harder to find actual restaurants, rather than just Chinese takeaways.

Como familia nos encanta la comida china y he estado yendo allí durante 18 años. Mi hijo menor tenía 4 cuando fuimos allí! La decoración no ha cambiado un poco en esos 18 años, ni tiene la comida. La calidad y el sabor es el mismo, excelente. Cuando vamos por una comida siempre ir allí por esa razón, la comida es sabrosa y garantizada buena y caliente, todo lo que quieras, cuando va a comer. El personal es atento, pero no entrometido. A menudo nos llame el día que y son atentos a nosotros en la colocación generalmente flexibles y así son. Nueva generación de la misma familia que nos sirve de primera hace todos estos años, creo.

Amazing food. Lovely fast service and lots of choice. I had Mongolian lamb, which I highly recommend and then mee goreng noodles, Peking ribs and deep fried shredded beef. My family all enjoyed their food also. Will visit again asap!

Excellent service, excellent food and excellent restaurant. The room is set very calm, with soft lighting and very comfortable. Highly recommended.

Dropped in for evening meal before night out. Most Chinese restaurants have their own take or style on things and this met with expectations. Nothing blew us away or offended. Seemed popular enough for a mid week evening.

El llevar es, literalmente, el mejor en el área la gente a Westbury de Warminster para conseguir su comida china para llevar. Está bien de precio y la comida es fantástica.

Vine aquí con mi marido y 4 amigos. Los aperitivos eran muy caliente y sabrosa. Recomiendo totalmente la placa de compartir. La principal estaba bien. Gambas mina king estilo dulce y agria de Hong Kong era buena, pero la carne con cebollas de primavera y jengibre no haya tanto sabor. Las comidas son de buen tamaño y el personal eran muy amables y educados.

Had a meal here with two friends. Wine red and white under £15 a bottle. All had different starters and sampled each other's all excellent. Mains were very good and tasty. Staff always on hand when needed. All in all a excellent time was had.

Wandered in without a reservation Nice table near the window, immaculate table setting. My companion who had not been before reckoned the best Chinese he had ever had Nowhere else in the area to compare with it

Chips are awesome cooked properly unlike some who cook them in a Wok. Chilli beef awesome the curry sauce is the sweet kind and could be hotter but still nice. Good portions and reasonably priced

I used to live in westbury and used champions often, so this was my first visit in over 2 years.I was very pleased to find it still as good, the food was lovely the service excellent and overall it was a lovely evening

I have been going to this resturant for years with my family, and we all get a warm friendly welcome like family. Old Jimmy has even gone up to his flat above the resturant and brought down water melon for my small son because he didn't like lychees but liked melon. Where would you get that service? Food is very good value and nice range of dishes.

Ordered the whole duck for a starter between 4, which was not crispy (to my liking) but a very generous portion that my fellow diners loved.The mains were also very plentiful in terms of meat, which suited the others, although I personally prefer the sauces. Very good review, based more on the others experience as opposed to my own.

I've sampled many Chinese restaurants but this one has consistently been the best all round ..lovely food good service great atmosphere! Some say the decor is a bit dated but I love it it's chinese !!!!!!

Had dinner here while visiting family nearby and it was excellent. We found the restaurant easily and there is ample parking at the rear. The adjoining take away was doing a roaring trade and the sit-down part was pretty busy too but we were seated quickly and placed our order. When the food came it was hot, tasty and the portions were very generous. It was also nice that the 'sweet' dishes such as sweet and sour pork were not too sweet as is often the case. The staff were polite, attentive and it seemed that many of the other clients were regular customers on first name terms with the staff so there was a nice family atmosphere about the place. The bill was reasonable so all in all a nice evening. We will definitely be returning when we are in the area. If I had to find a fault it would be the décor is a bit 1970's; old gold table linen and 'moving' pictures of waterfalls, however my 8 year old son was fascinated by these as he had never seen one before!

Eat out on a Thursday quite often and this is the first time in a long time that we had to sit in a full venue (must be a good sign).Have to admit to not eating at Champion for some years but pleased to see that the place has not lost any of its qualities. A warm welcome and attentive service despite being busy commendable and the food (choice, presentation, flavours and quantity) tremendous. Prices low and standards high - this place is a gem.

Had a lovely meal at Champion's restaurant a couple of weeks ago. Food was delicious, tasty, full of flavour and plenty of if.Staff are always friendly and attentive. The only criticism I do have is that you sit too close to the other people in the restaurant.

we use this restaurant lots ot tmes and won't be going back there. they treat peole unfair you should check your bill before paying they sometime add extra items that they have put on so beware of this.Very rude indeed i would not recommend is restaurant too anyone .

We occaisionally use the Champion as a Fish and Chip takeaway, The portions of chips are bit massive, probably better to share between two. Take up to the White Horse and enjoy.

Went for a meal with friends, there is a good choice of dishes, good service and nice atmosphere .As with other comments, the restaurant quality seems much nicer than the takeaway.

Always good food - sometimes very busy and have to wait but worth it. Eaten in and takeway both great. Just wish they delivered!

Always been happy with the food but something that always gets to me is that when I am parting with my money the least I expect is please, thank you and some general appreciation for my business. You get this at Jambo round the corner - my regular. I use Champion when this is closed.

Have eaten here many times, its been around for years and its no wonder why!!The food is outstanding regarding the quality, portions and presentation. The service is first class all round so much so we often tip well at the end. The resturant itself is not very big and is always busy so I would recommend that you book in advance to avoid dissappointment.

We went as a family with a 7yr old boy from a recommendation off the Old Pottery B&B we were staying at, and we wasn't disappointed .we were seated very quickly and the restaurant was busy for a Tuesday night which is always a good sign. we opted for a set menu and asked if we could swap dishes from one to another this again was met with no problem. we had Crispy duck & pancakes for a starter which was very tasty and followed by Kung Po Prawns,Sweet & Sour Pork and Beef in black bean sauce all served hot and freshly cooked. total bill including drinks was just short of £50 which we found good value for money for the three of us.
