Very good Sunday lunch with quality ingredients and decent portions. Suggestions to improve would be gravy boats with the lunch, salt cellars with salt in and perhaps some background music.

Service was absolutely terrible. We were left waiting 40 minutes for our afternoon tea which was pre booked in Advanced. People who arrived after us were getting served before us and excellent service and check backs, we did not receive this service. The staff ignored our requests and did not check back on our table. After giving us our afternoon tea nobody returned to our table, we had to get up and go to RECEPTION to ask for some more water. I would like to note we were the only people of colour in at the time. I am absolutely disgusted with this service and expected better from an establishment such as guisborough hall. We left feeling singled out and this totally ruined experience.

We were staying in the hotel so dined here. The gentleman head waiter was very attentive and offered great service. He’s a credit to this hotel! The food was absolutely delicious. We only managed 2 courses in the end but each dish was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. The duck spring roll or the ham hock were amazing! Our mains of the monkfish and chicken equally divine. We finished our meal with a liquor coffee in the drawing room. Definitely worth going although I’m not sure how often the menu is changed so you probably wouldn’t want to eat here every night unless you enjoy eating the same thing. The restaurant was a little quiet but it was a Monday evening and they had had a large birthday party in the other room.

Just returned from a lunch hosted at Gisborough Hall. The lunch was in the Long Hull. The table setting and presentation were reminiscent of a begone age of opulence. The three course meal was outstanding. The quality of the food was first class. Staff were friendly but professional and highly trained; Sharon, Wendy and Sarah. A thoroughly enjoyable experience at a brilliant local hotel.

The surroundings and the ambience of Gisborough Hall makes it a special place to eat. I must compliment the chef, as a Coeliac, the menu was wonderful; delicious and beautifully presented. The chef was able to adapt the menu to suite my dietary requirements and the dishes available made it difficult for me to choose. (this is not usually the case in most restaurants). The staff were friendly and attentive and the whole experience was made it very special for us; it was our 30th Anniversary. We are looking forward to visiting Challoner's Restaurant again in the very near future.

We stayed for 3 nights and had our evening meal in Chaloners on 2 nights ( breakfast is served in Chaloners each morning). Cannot praise enough, definitely up there with other fine dining restaurants we have visited. A special shout out to the chef who at our request, ordered venison in especially for us (it wasn't on the menu) and it was absolutely amazing; would go as far as saying the best we've ever had. This alone will ensure this first visit, will definitely not be our last.

Had 3 night deal offering breakfast and evening meal. The food was exceptionally wonderful. Some items you could imagine would have been created on BBC MasterChef. Menu was a little restricted if you were staying for a week, but 2 days was no problem and the Cheese Soufflé starter and Orange cheesecake dessert were unmissable and had to be repeated. The cheese dessert was a bit disappointing and could have done with some oatcakes or crackers, but I am sure they would have provided this had I asked. The service in the restaurant was brilliant.

The food, service, setting and atmosphere are excellent. The main dining area is the old billiard room and it is grand in scale but still a comfortable experience, almost intimate. The menu is full of local produce and the preparation and the cooking shows that the chef and team are skilled and imaginative. It is dining you would want form a hotel of this style and comfort. Reassuringly excellent, imaginative without being radical. And thankfully, they work on putting together flavoursome plates, with carefully combined ingredients and keeping portions moderate. The value is in the ingredients and the cooking and the presentation. And it is excellent value.

Recent Sunday lunch was wonderful. We didn't stay overnight as we live local - just a visit to the restaurant. It was my Mum’s birthday and her first real day out since a fall earlier in the year when she broke her arm and was in hospital for a week. She also moved home the day before, which of course saw Mum, my girlfriend and I spending all day lugging boxes around, so we felt we all deserved a bit of a treat. As well as the meal being fantastic, and of course the setting is always amazing, the staff really made the visit. They made us very welcome and were really friendly – it was like being in a village pub but a village pub within the setting of a grand stately home. To make everyone feel so relaxed in such a setting is no easy feat. The food was really nice (perfectly cooked beef) and worth every penny. For just under £70, we enjoyed 2 x three courses, 1 x 2 course lunch, drinks and coffees.

A better than average hotel restaurant. The food was well cooked, the menu attractive and service was prompt although a bit delayed one evening when a large coach party was present. We ate twice at Chaloner's while staying at Gisborough Hall Hotel. The food is better than the service; that is, with one exception. Byron, acted as Maitre D on one of our nights (Saturday) when the restaurant was completely full, and he is a real gem with good personal and observational skills. On taking our order, he 'came down to our level' (rather than cowering over us), was extremely attentive, and advised on a superb wine (a Spanish red) to accompany our lamb dishes. He also noted when our water glasses needed refilling. We wish he had been working the Sunday night when there were only a few tables taken. Sad to say, his role was taken by someone else who ignored us for long periods, even though she had little to do, who spent much of her time fawning over another couple on the other side of the restaurant. A shame! As for the food, we have mainly good comments. The menu is not long and we chose essentially the same dishes each night. One of us had locally-sourced lamb cutlets and the other slow-cooked lamb shoulder. Both were excellent, and accompanied by tasty sauces. One of us also had soup which, while a little 'watery', had a good flavour. The desserts on the menu did not attract us greatly, so we chose local cheeses. Oure meals in teh restaurant were part of a dinner, bed and breakfast package and so we cannot comment on value, except to say that we enjoyed the food but were disappointed in the inconsistency in service standards. ..

We were there for a late Birthday celebration and the staff could not have been more helpful. They greeted us in a friendly manner, took our drinks order and ensured we were seated comfortably in the Main Hall. Nibbles were interesting and tasty. We had a query about the wine which was handled and resolved in an appropriate manner. The Tournedos steak at dinner was amazing, cooked exactly how we wanted it. Although the meal did not look like a huge portion when it arrived, there actually was more than sufficient and the desserts were good too. The waiting staff were attentive but not intrusive, even though the restaurant was not full on this particular occasion. All the staff knew it was a Birthday celebration and all of them, without exception, wished my father a very happy birthday, which was a nice touch and showed they had been thoroughly briefed. When his dessert arrived, the underplate had greetings written on it, which he appreciated. All in all, a good evening.

Sadly, we arrived just before 3 pm, and despite checking the cafe was open and paying the parking, it was not a great experience. We were told there was no food available, just cake and drinks. Luckily, there was soy milk as my daughter is vegan but no vegan cakes. We sat down and one of the staff began mopping the floor around us with strong bleach , which made the coffee taste awful, we were reminded the cafe would be closing in 10 minutes despite it only being 3.35pm. The electric shutters were then lowered. As we got up to leave and were taking my granddaughter out of her highchair, my daughter was asked to move the chair she had just risen from. In 20 years of working in hospitality, these two staff could have cleared a pub during covid curfew, and that's saying something. One staff member drove off before we had even left the car park at 350 pm. My advice is to keep driving and go somewhere you are welcomed and your money over the counter is valued.

The food was okay but we received terrible customer service. They think it is okay to talk behind your back when they think you can’t hear them when you can. They give dirty looks and don’t show any enjoyment and just make the whole shop feel really awkward and it has a terrible atmosphere. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day, but have some respect for your customers and don’t talk about them behind their back when they can clearly hear you. It’s incredibly rude and can make people feel really uncomfortable.
