Popped in for a coffee and snack while furniture shopping at the Metro Centre. The cafe is smartly decorated on the top floor of Barker & Stonehouse and has a pleasant atmosphere. They were only serving the breakfast menu so we ordered coffees and bacon sandwiches. The coffee was good, hot and strong but a bit on the pricey side at £4.50 for a small cup and the sandwiches were served on lovely crusty sourdough with generous fillings but I wasn't keen on the tomato salsa type sauce which was overpowering flavoured with oregano. We enjoyed our brunch but when we got the bill I was a bit annoyed that a 10% gratuity had already been included. 1 star deducted for this reason especially as there was also a tip jar on the counter. You might expect this in a fine dining restaurant but not in a instore cafe.

After a trip to the Metro Center an impromptu but much appreciated lunch at Chadwick’s ( Barker and Stonehouse - Gateshead ) was high on the agenda and once again we enjoyed tremendous authentic food complimented with a super glass of French Rose wine . The staff were super efficient and the ambience was complimented with some great back-ground music . My wife opted for the Hake and I opted for the Lamb wrap which was absolutely superb although the “specials” were very tempting. We shared a dessert and finished off with a rich smooth coffee . Value for money ?….. Absolutely ! Would we go back to ? ….Without hesitation. Would I recommend ? … silly question , of course we will , no doubt with friends and family . This tremendous venue is certainly a significant credit to the commercial nature of the Metro Centre and an enviable asset in the new B&S store . Well done guys !

Chadwick and Co is within the new Barker and Stonehouse store in Gateshead. We have all been in cafes within retail stores; the best are average, most are poor. This is not the case with Chadwick and co. It's a little gem tucked away, upstairs, in the Barker and Stonehouse store. It has a lovely atmosphere with friendly staff. The menu simple, but quality high. The homemade toast and jam with a cup of tea is worth the trip alone.

Stopped here for lunch as we were visiting the Barker & Stonehouse store, really pleased we did. A lovely place which seemed rather popular as it had quite a few tables of people dining already and a steady stream of people arriving whilst we were there. Two soft drinks which were delivered quickly and food ordered. We both chose the Lamb & Mint burger off the specials board which was absolutely delicious, a real good plate full and you could certainly tell it was all freshly prepared. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Would certainly recommend and return again.

Mi mejor amigo y yo nos lo pasamos muy bien en el servidor. Tenemos dos hamburguesas y más entrantes. El lugar estaba limpio y el servicio era rápido

One of the best Chinese takeaways in Gateshead, food is always hot and ready with 15 minutes every time. Only negative is they don’t deliver.

While my daughter shopped I popped in here for an oat milk latte and was served by a woman who to be honest looked like she didn’t want to be there. I paid for my drink and waited patiently, the lady who was making the drink said it was ready. I politely asked if it was the oat milk latte and the woman who had taken my order barked at me that’s not what you ordered. I explained I ordered an oat latte and she snapped at me, that’s not what you asked for with a very stern look. I explained I don’t drink milk and I wouldn’t have asked for anything other than what I ordered. The lady then demanded another 60p from me which I proceeded to pay. I could see the woman who was making the drink was rather embarrassed and said it was ok to me. I won’t be returning here to be spoken too like that and she needs to learn some manner and put a smile on her face. Extremely disappointed .
